  1. A couple of close friends have chosen to do this. So many struggled to reason why. It's been said that people who die by suicide, don't want to end their lives, they want to end their pain. But suicide doesn't end the pain. It just gives it to someone else. A-Jay

  2. I really think you need to switch gears completely. Fishing slowly, picking cover apart isn't working right? So grab a crankbait, spinnerbait, or bladed jig and start covering water. This is the time of year when fish start to feed heavily on baitfish. There's times they won't even look at a bait on the bottom around here.

  3. Just a little something I came up with while at work, feel free to share. Looking back several years ago this would have been very helpful for a young starting out me. Not sure if anyone has ever made one of these on here but I have never seen one. Enjoy!

  4. A recent addiction to jig fishing has led to me looking for big bites and purposely fishing for size and not numbers. It's really been paying off. It's the only way I can really target larger bass without living on trophy waters and throwing really expensive swimbaits. Nothing of massive size yet, but this 5-pounder hit a Siebert Dredge Jig/Rage Chunk yesterday. Easily could have been a 6+ if she had been eating well. Another solid one:

  5. A dying fish on lake floor wont move much. There are times in spring when bass have 'attention spans' but dead sticking is more likely to attract a cruising bass after the bait has sat a while. He knows something is different and he is gonna see if its edible. Kind of like walking down the street and finding a dollar on the sidewalk.

  6. yesterday was rough. today, not too bad as of now. medication induced dreams are quite realistic. I spent my early morning driving around in a yellow mazda Miata convertible trying to locate my tundra so I could tow the boat to the lake. Never found the tundra Doc said everything went back together well. A lot of scar tissue was removed. the lower trapezius muscle was torn off.. the repairs should alleviate the constant headaches. getting the staples removed a week from Monday. they have me in a sling with a wedge in it. need to wear it constant for the first 4 weeks. PT starts after that. Thanks for the well wishes.

  7. I use yellow PowerPro (regular) and PowerPro SuperSlick on all my reels and add a leader of varying pound testage. Yellow is easier to see (IMO) and for my old eyes, is perfect for line watching. None of my spools have faded to white yet. If I feel they get too "old", I walk off the spool down to the backing, and tie it on "backwards" so the newer line is on top.

  10. I use Mann's worms a lot, I do prefer the Auger tail though. I've been using them since the early 80s, when I was six or seven years old. And yes, I do love that smell!

  11. Used to use them all the time fishing with my dad as a little kid. Loved opening up that package just for the smell alone.

  12. I caught my PB on a Mann's Jelly Worm in 1971, 9 lbs. 9 oz. from Clarks Hill ( now called Strom Thurmond Lake, but it will always be Clarks Hill to me), I've been fishing them for over 40 years and they still catch bass as well as ever. Tom

  14. Hey guys, The family and I got to spend a week relaxing in Panama City Beach back in Sept, and of course I'm not going to miss my opportunity to let a few saltwater fish stretch my line! To start the week, my wife and I got out with Captain Justin Leake for the second year in a row. If anyone finds themselves in PCB looking for a guide, look no further! Inshore, offshore, nearshore -- this dude has it all covered, and he's a pleasure to spend time in the boat with. In our 6-hr trip we were able to catch mangrove snapper, mahi, BIG spanish mackeral, king mackeral, amber jack and a few others. We saw a nice sailfish come up and frollic in front of the boat, just to taunt us! I'd never caught any mahi before and while they were only the smaller "chicken" variety, they were still a boatload of fun to catch on small pompano jigs and ML inshore tackle. We even caught a mahi that had been tagged, and I got a nifty t-shirt for my efforts to call in the fish data Mr. Amberjack may not look like much but MAN do they pull! The few that made the ultimate sacrifice to feed the family. We gave them a proper burial in breading, oil and cocktail sauce. My biggest kingfish to date, ~22 lbs. Those suckers are fun to fish for! The tagged mahi A few days after the charter trip, I spent a few hours wading the grass flats in St. Andrews State Park. Dare I say it on a bass site, but I'm starting to come to the conclusion that I may enjoy inshore salwater fishing more than bass fishing. Then again since I live in Atlanta, bass will suite me just fine most of the time There's something very appealing to me about the simplicity of inshore fishing. 2-3 rods, one small Plano box of tackle, and a few bags of soft plastics. As long as I have a few topwaters, a few twitch baits, a few spoons, some jigheads and a few packs of Bass Assassin Sea Shads, I'm going to catch fish. And I'm happy to say that after doing quite a bit of inshore fishing the last few years, I finally recorded my first inshore grand slam (a trout, redfish and flouder on the same day). The trout was too wily to pose for a picture, but I promise that I caught one Notice the tackle box in the pic. That's ALL I bring. Quite the contrast to a day our on the local pond chasing largemouth! I know this is a site full of bass fishermen, but I really would encourage all of you to do some salwater fishing if the opportunity presents itself. Perhaps the coolest part is that the bass tackle you already own is just fine for chasing most of these fish, but in my opinion the salwater fish do a lot better job of stressing that equipment than the green freshwater guys.

  21. Since you're in South TX, I doubt this will apply...But they ice up a lot worse than standard guides if you fish in the cold. Other than that I don't really prefer one over the other.

  24. When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered. Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?' And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree. Not very many people know this story so I wanted to share it with you.

  26. Cabela's is terrible about doing that. I worked at the one in KC for 5 years and it seemed like every year we were supposed to have some great sale on a discontinued rod or reel but we'd have only a handful of them and didn't allow rain checks so we'd have to deal with all the ticked off customers who didn't get what they came for, it was lots of fun.

  30. I've gotten discouraged like this because I fish mainly from shore. Best thing I can say... GO FISH SOMEWHERE ELSE. Freshen it up, a change of scenery, regardless of success, will go a long way psychologically. It has paid huge dividends for me, both in fish catches and persistence. It has changed my perception and helped me to realize why I am truly out there. I'm outdoors, one with nature, in God's creation. This is a sport and pastime I love. Don't give up and try to remain positive, the fish catches will come with putting in the time. After you fish somewhere else, or multiple others places, you'll be amazed when you return to your old spot. Fishing is mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. The more I make it about the spiritual and physical, the better off I am mentally and emotionally. Hang in there, I wish you the best. JC

  37. There's a few lakes around here that have that issue. It's not even just the really small lakes, bass can overpopulate many bodies of water if not properly managed. Catch and release is a great thing, but keeping some small ones for dinner isn't as bad as many make it out to be here.

  38. Picture doesn't work, but tell me when. My dad had a pair of Brittanys when I was still too little to carry a shotgun. They were great dogs and I watched them work and flush a lot of birds. All the hunting I've done since has been without dogs. It's kind of like trying to fish offshore without electronics.

  40. This past year was my first year really going duck hunting over decoys and calling them. First trip my buddy shot two greenheads. The next trip probably ruined me for life because I'll probably never experience another trip like it. Wave after wave of ducks coming over the trees, thousands of them. They couldn't even wait for us to finish setting up the decoys before they were coming in, my buddy didn't even have to call for them. It took a whole hour and a half to limit out, less if we had shot better. Got done so fast that we went fishing afterwords and caught a bunch of fish too It was a good week, my son was born 2 days later.

  42. We had just launched and were at the dock getting everything set. A guy was launching solo a nice big stratos. as his hold rope got taunt your heard the click of a carabiner, then the rope fell off into the water. There came a 20' boat right as us. We were able get our hands on the gunnel and push it back to the dock. The owner was very grateful. Being a smart*** I asked if finders keepers applied.

  43. I have always had a two man pond hoppin boat that a use occasionally. Once my dad and I went fishing in it. It was a really cool morning during the spring. I would say the water temp was not in the mid 50's yet, and there was a pretty strong wind blowing. My dad gets in the boat just fine. I'm next! I put one foot in and a strong wind swings that back of the boat around. I grab onto the dock, and finally get my other foot in the boat. Now I stretched out about 7 feet from dock too boat. You could have walked across my back (look like a bridge over water) haha. My dad is laughing his butt off. Finally, in a last ditch ever I pull myself all the way back to the dock! He is still laughin, and by this time I am mad but laughin. I am little worn out at this time, so I say what the heck I jumped in! I was pretty cold that day, but hey we put some nice ones in the boat that day. It was worth it! besides freezing my nads off.

  44. Last year I went pan fishing with the old man, and he forgot to grab the seat for the back deck, so I sat on a bucket. Set the hook on a fish a little to hard tipped over, strait in the water I went.
