  3. When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered. Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?' And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree. Not very many people know this story so I wanted to share it with you.

  8. Would suggest one that has the boaters compete against each other while the co's compete against other co's. Makes it a more level playing field, which is a lot more fun. It is a great way to learn.

  10. Had to get some house work done this weekend, but found an opportunity to get out for a few hours Sunday evening and I'm glad I did! Drove a little further than usual to a lake that is supposed to have some above average sizes and "relatively low fishing pressure". Launched around 1:30 or so and around 2:30 found my first bite of the day and it was a GOOD ONE. OF COURSE the big fish of the day came on the Siebert Outdoors jig, dredge brush w/owner hook black/green color with a rage craw trailer. actually had already made the pitch to cover and was swimming it back when it SLAMMED my jig! 5lb1oz on the scales and a beauty of a fish! missed a couple more bites after that, one on a spinnerbait and one on a worm. But then, about 30 or 40 minutes before dark it really started up. all the critters were moving and the water started to show some life. I managed to bag 4 on the Terminator T1 spinnerbait right before dark. they were 2 at 3# and 2 at 1-1.5#. each one of them absolutely choked the bait too. really nice way to spend the evening after doing some solid house work! Few pics of the big girl and one of the 3's:

  19. I kept forgetting to pull a couple of big Swedish Pimples out of my ice fishing box to try them on bass this fall. I'm done bass fishing for this season, but I'll try them next year. They're killer on everything I ice fish for, so I'm thinking they'll work great on cold water bass. That lure has been around for a long time and is outstanding for vertical jigging. I bet they'll work well fished like a blade. And with the single hook, they may not get hung up as much. Tight lines, Bob

  20. Screw that. Nope. Seeing as its not supernatural so to speak. Get on some camo and get on the roof. Bring a large caliber rifle. (You ain't hunting deer) throw a couple Slim Jim's out and wait. Once the Sasquatch pops out put a round through its vitals. Problem solved. Mount the thing and put a Slim Jim in its hand. Wa Lah now you have a new decoration. But Raider, a large caliber rifle won't be large enough. You might say. A .338 Lapua Magnum or a .50BMG kills EVERYTHING that walks on two or four legs. Even if its wearing armor. Hell, I'll drive over there and pop the dang thing for ya, if you let me keep it. Would make a lovely conversation piece by my fire place.

I'm in NW WI, Chippewa County...and we just got ice in our backwaters and puddles for the first time today. Tomorrow will be the first day with a high below freezing this year...it's been nuts...I had to cut the grass two weeks ago...

  23. Hey guys......sorry to burst some of your bubbles but i called my local Cabelas and they said they didn't have any of those Quantum EXO reels in stock.....when i asked if they would be receiving any for the sale, they didn't know....so I talked to someone at Cabelas headquarters and they said that it was only if it is in stock. They didn't believe they were going to be receiving more for the sale.....so unless your store has a large inventory it doesn't look like there are going to be very many out there. And apparently they are discontinuing this model that is why what is left will be on sale. Looks like they are just trying to get people in the door. Kind of a disappointment that they can't back up their advertising. Plus they said you couldn't order it online either.

  32. Not a bad deal. I came close to buying a gently used 135 off Craigslist about a year ago. I hesitated after I went and looked it over - and after I tried to lift it. I ended up finding a new Tarpon 100 (w/paddle, rod holders, flag, etc.) from a local dealer for under $500 at a mid-winter sale. Glad I did. I'm not as young as I was when I was younger Putting the Tarpon on my Montero and Durango is pretty close to my max. I'd love that 135, but for me, I'd probably need a trailer.

  33. I think we could use this sentence from Finesse worm fishing Chapter three too every other thread on this forum . "But the true experts that I've come across, the most successful, don't seek rules. They rely on hard work, time spent, and trial and error as their basic tools."

  34. There should be some archived threads and articles on structure spoons. Take a look at Acme Little Cleo and Kastmaster spoons in 2/5, 1/2 and 3/4 oz Luhr Jensen Mr Champ and Crippled Herring in 1/2, 3/4 and 1 oz. Adding a white or white/chartreuse chicken feathered premium treble hook, Owner or Gamakatsu in sizes 4 (2/5-1/2oz) or 2 (3/4-1 Oz) increases strikes rario. Tackle; vertical spooning can be done with a variety of rods and actions. I use 12 lb mono, Big Game, with moderate action rod rated for the lure weight to reduce hook tear out near the boat. You can use a standard MH fast action and reduce the drag tension to 2-3 lbs. The most important factor with structure spoons is determine where the bait fish schools are located and how deep the active feeding bass are at. Your sonar unit is your friend, use it. Watch for bird feeding activity, birds have a keen eye for bait fish. You can drop a spoon straight down to the depth you see bait fish, set the hook if the spoon stops. You can can make a lob cast about 10-20 feet past the bait depth and let the spoon flutter down through the bait fish. Yo yoing a spoon a few times up and down about 1' to 2' through the bait fish, set the hook anytime it stops falling. If you snag a spoon shaking on slack line will usually free it. Tom

  35. I use the small CC spoons for lots of species of fish in the stained water of NE missouri. I usually use them from 10 to 15 foot sometimes a little deeper . The only other time I used them was at Table Rock lake one autumn . I bought a bunch of homemade 1/2 ouncers from a tackle shop there and caught quite a few spotted bass on points but also ended up snagging and losing every one of them . Most of the snags were from fishing line .

  36. The navigation is a tad bit convoluted. I can hardly read the "scroll over" links in the center. People have been conditioned to the easy menus. I know I have. My preference is : >Menu item(Parent) >sub menu item(child) >sub menu item(child) >Jigs >arkie head >hook/weight size >football >Swing >whatever other you have Just an example. People are spoiled, and the science of what these big companies have done with their item menus is meant to find the product fast and hurry up and buy it. But the menu does serve a purpose for the person, to NOT have to look through 62 pictures of types of "jigs" to find what they are looking for. I'm not knocking your site at all, just offering some insight... Convenience is the key. Just think about how you shop online...If you are looking for a "flux capacitor"...if you type that in search, it might come up with many flux capacitors, and many items that are related to it, and you have to scroll through....pages...ah, forget it let's go to site "B" and see if they have it. The pictures on your site are terrific! I have ordered products from you, and have been satisfied with the quality. Just another idea...reviews and ratings...these are important, I like both. I wish TW had a ratings along with their reviews. Like amazon or newegg. Sometimes a site update or overhaul can do wonders. Good luck.

  38. It is typical Shimano junk. Please send it to me and if you buy anymore junk, send it to me as well. Go forth, and by yourself a BPS, Plueger, Revo, Lews clone and never have any problems again. I'd tell you how to fix the junk you've got, which requires reading the instructions, but would rather own it.

  39. What Chris said. I am a Fl Native and I have a tremendous amount of respect for large gators. If you are standing to close to the water, they do have the power to pull you in and there ain't a d**n thing that you can do about it. If you are in a kayak, canoe, Gheenoe or any of the other small craft out there, if they wanted to, they could get you out of it and there ain't a d**n thing that you could do about it. Go ahead, sit on a boat dock with your legs dangling down. The odds are nothing will happen but there is a chance that you will lose a leg or two. For the guy that said gators are more scared of us than we are of them, ask James Okkerse what he thinks about that. Well, you can't ask him because he is the latest person in Fl to be killed by a gator.

  40. Ditto to everything davecon has said. I've lived here my entire 26 years of existence and only the Yanks are scared of 'em . Go on a canoe float down the Peace River and you will see all the good ol' boys chest deep partying in black, gator water. I've done it once or twice myself. Really the only ones that ever pose a threat are mama's or ones that are used to being fed, otherwise they are looking for an easy snack.. we are another, very comparable sized predator.

  41. Fished the Potomac River today near Antietam Creek for a few hours. Kind of slow, water temp around 58 degrees. Only had three bites using Berkley Gulp! Killer Crawlers but landed three fish. If that last one actually counts as a fish. I love the contrast of colors on the second smallmouth. 14.5 inches on the first one, 11.5 on the second one and who cares about the third one. Pat

  42. Oh, and by the way, don't ever take a dog with you on or near the water. Dogs are to gators like ice cream is to fat women, just can't resist.

  43. Lived in Florida my entire life, almost 65 years. Only 2 times a gator will mess with you: 1 - those that have been fed by people. 2 - mamas that have babies. They will warn you though. Have NEVER had a problem. It is exciting in the early summer during the mating season. Nothing quite like a 13 footer growling at the height of the season, but even then I have never been scared or frightened. They are just big lizards !
