  1. The only thing my local WelfareMart carries is shame and regret.

  2. When four of Santa’s elves got sick, the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones, and Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure. Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more. When he went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out, Heaven knows where. Then when he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered. Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a little angel with a great big Christmas tree. The angel said very cheerfully, 'Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn't this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?' And thus began the tradition of the little angel on top of the Christmas tree. Not very many people know this story so I wanted to share it with you.

  4. I stopped by one of the local WalMarts and they had a bunch of fishing gear on clearance. They had tons of lures and terminal tackle marked down to $1. I picked up 14 packages of tungsten weights. Several rapalas (husky jerks, x-raps, jointed minnows and DT-2), some bomber cranks, 2 Mann Alabama rigs, 2 spooks, 2 spook Jr's, 3 Heddon torpedos. I also picked up more than 50 packages of various sizes of hooks including octopus, spinning dropshot and EWG from Gamakatsu, KVD branded Mustad, VMC, and Trokars. I also grabbed some packs of KVD ball bearing swivels, weighted swimbait hooks and some Arkie weedless stand up jig heads. I swear it was the deal of the year. I only spent $134.19 and probably got at least $600 worth of stuff. I should be set with hooks and weights for a couple of years.

  10. I posted a a few nice things about Rainshadow blanks, and my Alps power wrapper. The Batson folks shot me a PM and offered some "swag" for my good comments. I told not necessary, but they insisted. Got a nice package from them about a month ago. Yes, I'm very delinquent in my expression of thanks. Sorry; better late than never, eh? I got two nice hats, some decals, and a really nice Team Rainshadow long sleeve tee; in XL size. Too bad I'm not an XL kinda guy. I'm a 3XL kinda guy. My wife appropriated the shirt. She doesn't wear a tee often, but when she does, she likes "em big, loose and baggy. She likes the shirt, and has already worn it more than I thought she would. So, to the folks at Batson Enterprises, I appreciate the efforts on your part, tuning in here; keeping your finger on the pulse of the fishing world, as it were. It's nice knowing I can make a comment or suggestion, and have it heard. That is all too often not the case. Thanks for making the effort. Cheers, GK

  11. Had to get some house work done this weekend, but found an opportunity to get out for a few hours Sunday evening and I'm glad I did! Drove a little further than usual to a lake that is supposed to have some above average sizes and "relatively low fishing pressure". Launched around 1:30 or so and around 2:30 found my first bite of the day and it was a GOOD ONE. OF COURSE the big fish of the day came on the Siebert Outdoors jig, dredge brush w/owner hook black/green color with a rage craw trailer. actually had already made the pitch to cover and was swimming it back when it SLAMMED my jig! 5lb1oz on the scales and a beauty of a fish! missed a couple more bites after that, one on a spinnerbait and one on a worm. But then, about 30 or 40 minutes before dark it really started up. all the critters were moving and the water started to show some life. I managed to bag 4 on the Terminator T1 spinnerbait right before dark. they were 2 at 3# and 2 at 1-1.5#. each one of them absolutely choked the bait too. really nice way to spend the evening after doing some solid house work! Few pics of the big girl and one of the 3's:

  14. I'm not sure how much experience you have with casting reels but here are my thoughts on this. They are all good, however the Lews are a lot lighter and more ergonomic making them comfortable to hold, the Tatulas, for as much as I really wanted to like them, are heavy and they are clumsy to hold compared to other reels. Now, if you don't have much experience with other reels or any light weight reels, then the Tatula reels will be fine and you'll probably like them.

  19. I use sickle hooks on a lot of my jigheads, Eagle Claw Lil' Nasty hooks to be exact. They're like the name says, nasty. Sticky sharp, strong, and it seems like the fish have a harder time throwing them than round bends for some reason. Most of my tube fishing is in shallow water with a 1/8oz head and it does perfect for smallies.

  24. No,not the chronology challenged, but guys like me who still enjoy fishing with Classic Ambassadeurs, and also those who like to upgrade, and tune them. I've been in contact with Jeff Brooks of Boca Bearings, and they're going to bring a new bearing to the market that is a direct replacement for the stock brass bushing. As anyone who has tried to convert a bushing reel to bearings knows, you either had to modify the spool,or change out a bunch of parts to convert them. With this new bearing, all you'll need to do is swap out the bushings, and add a spool centering cushion, and a spool centering shim. The bearings will be ABEC7 ceramics, so the upgrade will be noticeable. The extra parts needed cost about $8 on top of the cost of the bearings, so it's also less than the price of a new spool, and pinion gear. Date of release is not yet set,so I will update this post when I have a confirmed date.

They had the flipping stick up for $80 but it sold out quick. Free shipping on orders over $50 too. Crazy good deal IMHO.

  32. Thanks it's been fun and a good learning experience. Now I just need a pool in the backyard and some underwater cameras;) Rigged the power worm looked about right, but in the water the tail really stretched out. The swim senko was a stunner, that thing pushes a lot of water.

  33. Nice job with the tank test part 2. Good choices! Freiendly criticism should you use the powerworm trailer would be cut that one down some as well. Bigger fish should inhale it but smaller ones may just mess with the tail section. Keitech fat impacts and swing impacts have great swimming action as well.

  34. Your right a hitchhiker it will enhance head action of the softbait and sorta makes it 2 diff actions the jig head and the soft bait will be in essence just following each other as opposed to the heavier jig controlling the softbait

  36. As Woody put it, they are great reels. Made in China, all aluminum where it matters. Maintence would be a drop of oil on each bearing once a month or depending on how much you fish maybe less. Braking, well I can't answer that one. I don't use any of the breaking options on any of my reels, they are all turned off. They cast great, have a nice drag system, compact and comfortable to fish, and light. I have yet to have to send one to Quantum (or any of the PT reels they make) for any kind of defect or service. They are a solid well put together reel. Needless to say, I started swapping the reels I wanted to upgrade with these when I found them at a steal of a price about 4 months ago when I could get them at well almost at that $99 price point as many people have a negative view on Quantum. This is probably due to a lot of their "cheap" reels they put out in the $35-50 area that are made of plasic and well are $35 reels. If you are looking to move to Quantum I wouldn't buy any of their reels under the Accurist PT which is at the $100 mark. So, my advice, if you can get an EXO for that or just above I would buy a few or what you can afford. If you want, check out the review Tackle Tour did on them as well if you look them up on TW and click the review icon.

  44. Results will be limited unless you do the bearing supported level wind upgrade if it's available for your specific reel. It's the non disengagement of the level wind that limits spool inertia on those reels.
