  2. This is not the place, nor the time, to make ANY political innuendos. People have lost their lives, families have been destroyed, and the world is in mourning. Let the membership of BassResource represent class and compassion in this tragedy.

  4. During specific times of the year certain lures produce much better than others. I have been fishing all over northern New England the past several weeks. In the three states I fished the same pattern emerged. Targeting deeper water fish in 15-35 feet with a blade bait. If you were fishing shallow than 15 ft you would struggle. Fish were most definitely in there winter locations and patterns. It is difficult to beat a blade bait once the water temperature drops below 50. Jigs do work but I don't get nearly as many bites as I do with a blade bait.

  5. When you get stung by a wasp, do you go to the nest and try and find the one that stung you or do you wipe out the entire nest? Eliminating leadership will do nothing more than open doors to another leader.

  7. After winning the tourney with our 29.95lbs bag a week and a half ago, I headed out the other morning with a good buddy. We're both new dads, so planning trips isnt easy. If I have time, I usually dont know until that morning. I'm incredibly lucky to have a wife who understands my passion. We had about 4 hours that we could scoot out for. High sun, 10-15 kmh winds we knew it wasnt going to be a stellar day, but we should be able to drag some up. We didnt mark near the number of fish around that we have been, but enough to keep our interest. Our first pass over the school and I hit a 5 pounder. Good starter fish, but still not the reason we fish Simcoe in the fall. Next pass, I load up on a fish that doesnt feel like anything special. Fought nearly the same as the other 4-5 pounders. As soon as it got near the boat, it "tried" to jump. Thats when I knew she was a toad. I've caught a number of 7 pounders and I knew this one was my biggest yet. Unfortunately no scale on the boat, but I imagine she went somewhere between 7.5 - 8lbs. A truly giant smallie that photos will not give justice too. Now time to go get my 9.

  10. Clayton France has let in far fewer refugees than most of Europe. I am not sure any free nation can completely stop this sort of thing. It looks like ISIS is responsible. I hope this is the final straw to bring the world together to crush this group. Eliminating the leadership with extreme prejudice by going after them aggressively regardless of where they are is where we start IMO.

  14. Yes it is. This is from the St Croix website - "Over the years, there were a variety of goods manufactured that were essential to the development and success of the company. Solid and tubular rod blanks were sold to other companies such as Zebco and Waterking. Private brand rods were created for Orvis, L.L. Bean, Cabela's, South Bend, Cortland and many others. Sundry items such as Department of Natural Resources shocking rods and landing nets, pool cues and marine antennas all contributed to the company's longevity."

  21. I spend the majority of my fall season on Lake Simcoe. It is my favourite lake of all time and I have fished lakes all through Ontario and 10 States. Still lots of lakes to visit, but this one is my favourite. I'm lucky that it is local for me. I've had an excellent season with big numbers of 5-7 pound fish showing up. I don't do many tournaments. I'm not much of a gambler and with a wife and young son at home, I cant justify the entry fees for most of them. Lately, I've had some kinda funny facebook comments and messages. Apparently, I sting too many fish, I dont care about the resource and there's no way I could do that in a tournament. Alright, let's see. The Barrie Bassmasters had their Simcoe Open yesterday. Let's do it. High winds, so a lot of people stayed home, but some of the lakes best anglers turned up, including a couple of my hecklers. We had a great day, put good numbers of fish in the boat and weighed a giant 29.95 lbs sack to take first place. I don't need to do tournaments to justify myself as an angler, but it felt good, maybe I'll show up more often. That 0.05 lbs away from 30 is a little haunting though. one of the fish got cut off in the photo for some reason, but here they are.

  25. I once fished at a place called "Trophy Country" that was anything but (a few BR members know what I'm talking about). While catching dozens, if not hundreds of small bass kept you entertained, it was clear the lakes lacked any sort of management. I think the "big fish" caught among 6 anglers was maybe 3 pounds caught by yours truly - surely nothing to boast about in a place called "Trophy Country". I guess the place is more known for their deer hunting opportunities than fishing. But with a thoughtful harvesting plan, those "trophy" lakes could surely produce some fantastic monster fish. Sad to see that the place had no such management program in place.

  34. First thing is to check for the coverage that each has. Very easy with Navionics, just go to their website, click on Web App and you can view the current maps for Nautical Charts (Navionics data) and Sonar Charts (user generated data). That is updated daily and is what you would get when purchasing a Navionics card and updating it. All Navionics products include a year of Freshest Data Updates. To see the list of waters that Lakemaster has, go to the Humminbird Lakemaster website, find the card that covers Florida and download the .pdf lake list. For Navionics, the best card for the Helix is Navionics+. All three ways to get those maps will give you both Nautical Charts and Sonar Charts. The coverage is for inland lakes and the Gold coverage (coastal and major rivers). The original Navionics+ card is 2GB and has no maps. You choose what locations to download to the map card from anywhere in the US and Canada. It is discontinued but some retailers still have copies. MSRP $179 The current Navionics+ is Preloaded 16 GB with all the maps for the US and Canada including the waters covered by the Gold version. MSRP $199 If you already own a map card by most any company, there is the Navionics Update card which is 2GB and has no maps. To use it, you active it with your card so it becomes the Navionics+ version. MSRP $99 If Lakemaster has the coverage you want and the locations are designated as Lakemaster High Definition Survey, then that would be the best with more adjustable features. The other two levels of maps are High Definition Survey and non-designated sources- not very accurate. Pay attention to the location designations.

  37. If you are at the $100 budget then a Pflueger Supreme is the ticket! The 30 size reel will hold 130 yards of 8lb line so it will probably hold around 100 yards of 12lb and it weighs in at 7.5oz. I have the MGX model which is basically the same model, that reel has been excellent for me.

  38. If I were a BPS marketing executive, I would be reading these posts with concern. It seems very few of us (myself included) buy from them. Maybe they don't care about the diehard bass anglers but they sure should. I make my jigs and buy my components online. When it comes to hard baits and plastics, TW gets my business 9 times out of 10 and Academy gets some business from me as well. I live 5 minutes from a Cabelas but their selection is limited and overpriced.

  40. For me the positives of a braid/fluoro leader set up out weigh the negatives...........by a huge margin. Positives: #1....Braid, as a main line handles much better (esp. on spinning gear) with zero memory/coiling/handling issues far longer than fluoro. #2....Flouro is much MUCH more abrasion resistant than braid, which is important to me fishing around things with teeth and zebra muscle infested water. #3.........Economy, like I said before, braid lasts a LONG time, and so does a spool of fluorocarbon when used as leader material. Negatives: None that I can think of, then again, I have never had issues with the connecting knot that were not my own fault.

  46. hey all, I moved to Norman in January from TN and have been looking for some clubs around the area with no luck, I know myself and some friends I've made here that bass fish would be more than interested in starting or joining. on a side note it was fun to have to learn how to fish a new terrain here in OK. 47. Since I started it ill go first. Im in the oklahoma city area and primarily fish small ponds in the area from shore. Because of the recent round of storms the bite has been slow. I am finding a lot of success with small poppers even though the water is high and muddy. Im looking forward to some more stable weather patterns but it looks like it may be awhile.
