  2. The Strike King Rage Toad has been working well for me this summer. I fished the "Blue Moon" this past Thursday. Some fish apps said it was supposed to be the best day of fishing in a long time. I would say it was a perfect day. It was almost 100 degrees with a moderate breeze and we were fishing submerged hydrilla in 4 foot of water. Picked up a 9.14# just after first light and the 8.99# at 2:30 in the afternoon. All the fish took a white Rage Toad.

  3. I've been chasing this since I was 14, so I decided to make my first Toad Status fish anglers award hang in style. Award, pics, actual lure hook and knot, & reel. Funny...I only fished that reel around a half dozen times...nonetheless, it's retired.

  5. Took a guide trip in the everglades with Captain Thadeus Ragan. We fished all along alligator alley for 8 hours and caught 70+ bass. First time fishing the glades, and first time from a bass boat. Very very cool day! Check out the video:

  6. Hello Everyone, I haven't been on BR in quite some time but I'd like to share a almost life changing story that included Bass Resource and my use of this forum. I promise this read will be worth your time.. A few years ago for my Christmas present at the age of 15 I found a lot on here for 300$ that was something I felt I couldn't live without and I begged and prayed for my parents to get it for me. It was a whole lot to get me started, several rods reels baits ect. And One of the best parts about it was, if I bought this whole lot, the seller would throw in a Fenwick Elite Tech Rod for me. So eventually my parents gave in and purchased me this lot and the seller immediately notified me saying he couldn't find this bonus rod at the time but assured me I'd receive it. So I didn't think twice and just took his word. Weeks passed and the seller and me corresponded and he still was having a problem finding it, so I gave him to the following spring to find and ship me the rod. Then one day I messaged him 5 months later and he finally found the rod and sent me a picture of it about to be shipped and I was more than excited! But, I never received the rod. Two weeks passed and I never heard from the seller again. His account went non active, he didn't post, he didn't reply, I called him and his phone was disconnected. At this point I pretty much gave up and threw in the towel, and kissed my 150$ rod away.. Which being 16 at the time was more than I'd ever afford.. Two full years passed, I never reported or bashed the user I figured if he was to rip me off, karma would find his way. Then one day I logged back into this website after months of inactiveness and I saw a message, it was the seller from over two full years ago. He told me he lost his job, his wife, his home, tackle and much more. And right away did my stomach drop. I was immediately filled with forgiveness but the seller told me even though he may have lost a lot, he is still going to ship me two brand new Powell Rods and a box of baits for my patience and because he stated he is a true man of his word and would go to any lengths to make it right, even if it meant cutting into his paycheck.. Sure enough, I received everything as it was stated, two full years after a transaction. This is something I find more than admirable. I'm only 17 now but I hope one day I'm a man of my word to this extent and I now learned this is a quality of a true man. I'm so thankful for this website and all the great people on it, I would say this forum has some of the best people on it filled with great knowledge and respect. Thanks Bass Resource!

  9. I caught this 11.46 lb blue cat in a farm pond today with a double Jackall Crosstail Shad rig using 10 lb power pro main line with 8 lb invizx leaders and gamakatsu 1/0 g lock hooks on a Daiwa Lexa 721MLFS rod and a Daiwa Lexa 2500 reel. It was EPIC. It took a solid five minutes to land it. I'm so glad I added that bearing to the drag! Had to share.

  11. Took new citica I out on water for about 6 hours. I'm using it on my shallow/mid crankbait rod. The reel was a joy to use all day. It will flat out bomb some crankbaits. It's a lot different from the older citica that I have. The reel feel a lot more refined and smooth. I really believe the bearing supported pinion gear makes the reel very smooth on the retrieve. The braking system works very well, and the reel doesn't take a lot of effort to throw a bait a long ways. I kinda wish shimano would put a touch longer handle on these reels, but that's not a big deal really, I could always put a hawgtech on it. I enjoyed using the reel and think that at the price point they are selling at, it's a heck of a reel. Anyone that is thinking of getting a reel in this price range, give the citica a look. I'm pretty happy with the selection of 100-150$ reels on the market right now, there are a lot of good performing "workhorse" reels that will do everything you need them to. I'm not saying the citica is the best reel in the price range, just giving a quick run down of my experience with mine.

  12. 1. I like to use a very slow, stead retrieve, often times it will bump the bottom even. I will fish it faster to run it over grass or along dock edges, sometimes I'll stroke it off the bottom, I'll use an erratic stop and go, jerk and snap retrieve, but most of the time slow and steady wins the race. 2. I use a trailer 100% of the time, trailer hook 0% of the time. There isn't much I haven't tried for a trailer and my favorites change occasionally. Right now I'm big on; Pit boss or Rage Menace rigged sideways, Zman Diesel MinnowZ, Zman Turbo CrawZ rigged sideways, or a YUM swimming Dinger. 3. Nope

  16. Just got on with our local BPS here in town as a "local pro". Got a nice jersey, some commercial appearances, and opportunities to speak at store events locally and state wide. Also the other stores compete in tournaments on the east coast that I will be in too. Not to mention I get a little cash for speaking at seminars and some more store gift cards. They also provide me with about $1,500 a year in store allowance. Pretty excited. Feel like I got my "foot in the door" to be the next big PRO!!! lol :-)

  17. Depends on the brand. Some brands come with decent hardware and some come with garbage.

  22. Rather than trying to find another Senko type bait, use a different style worm all together. Lots of stick baits out there, but I don't think another actual Senko is available. They flat work so why bother is my take. If I'm not using a Senko, I'm using a Jackall Flick shake and would encourage you to try them. Only two worms I even bother with rigged various ways. Neither have been duplicated to perfection and will catch fish when everything else fails.

  25. Lake Biwa must be in the mix - it is huge and obviously has some huge fish, as do some waters in Zimbabwe and South Africa - California can be in the mix if they restart the heavy trout stockings that gave them the lunker boom - I still believe Florida has some world records swimming around - there is so much water and vegetation there despite the constant degradation of their waters - there are a lot of teeners caught in Florida that never make the news. I also believe there should be different records for northern strain and Florida strain bass - a 10 pound northern strain bass is much more a trophy than a 12 pound Florida strain.

  26. We have several lakes with zebra mussels, some with curly-leaf pondweed, white perch, and of course the Asian carp. The state recommends a 1 week wait period in between trips to allow your boat to thoroughly drain and dry. I keep a bottle of bleach/water mix to spray down my bilge and livewells because I usually don't have a week between trips. If I'm going from an infested lake to a noninfested lake in less than a week I'll often go to the carwash to spray her down too. I don't think it will matter in the long run, but I do what I can to slow down the spread.

  28. Pretend that you are buying for your son and you are buying him his first .22. Naturally, you would start him off right and you would buy him a Remington. Same with his first baitcaster. Start him off right and get the best and the best is of course, Shimano.

  29. Every stickbait is different, the Yamamoto senko is pretty unique. When someone finds a senko that has the same action as a Yamamoto senko for cheap hook me up! Not saying their stickbait is the best but it definitely has its own unique characteristics.

  35. Did a little night fishing Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Minus the nearly 3 dozen channel cats I caught on my bladed jigs and spinnerbaits, I caught 6 bass. 5 of them were less than a pound, one of them was my biggest of the year so far I hate night fishing during a full moon, but the plus side to the normally slow fishing is that I usually get a shot at a big one during a full moon. Slammed a black and blue War Eagle right as it was coming over a log and gave me all she had at 2:30 in the morning, 5lb 9oz. Right when I caught her. Our morning photo shoot at the ramp before telling her goodbye.

  40. Jeez guys. The OP said he's had the reel a few years. I'd say he knows something is wrong. I'm not familiar with that particular reel, but it sounds like the internal adjustment arm isn't being moved when you dial up the magnets. A good indicator would be the adjuster would feel different. If you're comfortable opening the side plate, look to make sure the magnets move when you're adjusting them. If not, this is the culprit and that part just needs replacing. If they do, check to make sure the race is still glued in place and not spinning. Is should be one or the other. If you're not comfortable doing this yourself, you can send it to DVT of this site. Most reel repair shops will let you know the cause and cost to fix before doing any repairs if you ask.

  43. Totally agree. Was it ethical? Not at all. Will I lose sleep over it? Not at all. A killed protected lion doesn't affect me in the least and I'm surprised/disappointed at the attention/outrage this is bringing out. We have people buying and selling kids, drugs, etc in our cities, I'm sure we can find better things to focus our efforts on.

  44. Poor of those barometrically pressured fish, they must have some sort of damage to their pneumatic conducts that can´t help them alleviate the atmospheric pressure..... , you can´t feel it do you ? oh my I feel this pressure all over my body when it´s bluebird clear & sunny without a single cloud in the sky..... That barometric pressure affecting the physiology of them fish argument got more holes than swiss cheese.
