  2. It's my opinion that low light levels during the pre-frontal stage trigger heavy feeding activity. When the cold-front finally arrives, it's met with well-fed game fish combined with bright sunny skies. IMO, barometric pressure is purely coincidental, which pales in comparison to the pressure change caused by a fish moving Up 1-foot or Down 1-foot. Roger

  3. Just got on with our local BPS here in town as a "local pro". Got a nice jersey, some commercial appearances, and opportunities to speak at store events locally and state wide. Also the other stores compete in tournaments on the east coast that I will be in too. Not to mention I get a little cash for speaking at seminars and some more store gift cards. They also provide me with about $1,500 a year in store allowance. Pretty excited. Feel like I got my "foot in the door" to be the next big PRO!!! lol :-)

  4. Another terrific evening. I don't normally post reports (except in the Illinois section), but in 30 minute window we did some damage worth noting. Me and buddy boated 9 fish over 4 pounds and one at 5 even. Better yet, we were in his boat so I could just fish and drink beer and let him in on the pattern from sunday when I had a similar result on my boat. I did have to double check, but these are all different pictures of fish, but yes, all caught in the exact same spot about the size of a fishing boat. Ledge, with brushpiles, with a hardbottom transition at 15fow Truly a spot on the spot kind of place and pretty much stitching a 10inch powerworm. Still no giants though. Headed out there this weekend again with a couple 8-10 inch swimbaits to see if anything bigger in the area- and we did catch a handful more at other spots however not to the extent of what happened here.

Lynn is actually my mom, making her Al's grandmother, not his mom. Big Pappa still cooks the best burgers around.

  9. Start raising it one step at the time until you get your best speed and ride at WOT with your normal load. Get it too high and it will either porous or make the prop cavitate. Once you have it set and if it's too hard to get on plane because of the bow lift, you will have to give up a little on the WOT speed and drop it back down a notch to help the holeshot.

  10. Couple three pounders from my latest outing. River rose about 3' over night but since it's a tailwater, the reservoir kept the muddy water from making its way into the river. Made for a killer spinnerbait bite, tons of fun!

  12. First fish on the new rod came from the pond! Was supposed to be a dedicated crankbait rod, but the Dobyns Champion 703 Glass is SWEEEET with the bladed jigs!! This 2lb10ozer choked the black and blue rage blade on the fall. The combo didn't let me down as I felt the subtle "tick" of the line from the sensitivity of the rod and the 30lb power pro with 12lb invisx leader thrown on the curado 51e. The rod felt great while fighting the fish to the bank, plenty of backbone to set the hook too.

  13. it was a lazy afternoon on the lake so I asked my bored teenaged son if he wanted to go kill an hour fishing a rock line off a nearby island. He got a couple 1 lb smallmouth off senkos and I decided to try out the drop shot rig. Haven't had any success with it all summer, but I decided to try and get the hang of it today. Well, on the famous "last cast, then will go in" line, I hooked this old girl. Didn't have a scale in the boat but she was a TANK. And yes, this was my first fish on a drop shot. Was using a 6'8" MXF St Croix LTB, Plueger Supreme XT spinning reel, 6# Yo-Zuri Hybrid, a 1/0 Octupus hook, 3/16 oz pencil weight, and a Yamamoto 4" Shad worm in Green Pumpkin w/ Black Flake.

  14. An elderly Florida lady did her shopping and, upon returning to her car, found four males in the act of leaving with her vehicle. She dropped her shopping bags ...and drew her handgun, proceeding to scream at the top of her lungs, “I have a gun, and I know how to use it! Get out of the car!”. The four men didn't wait for a second threat. They got out and ran like mad. The lady, somewhat shaken, then proceeded to load her shopping bags into the back of the car and got into the driver’s seat. She was so shaken that she could not get her key into the ignition. She tried and tried, and then she realized why. It was for the same reason she had wondered why there was a football, a Frisbee and two 12-packs of beer in the front seat. A few minutes later, she found her own car parked four or five spaces farther down. She loaded her bags into the car and drove to the police station to report her mistake. The sergeant to whom she told the story couldn't stop laughing. He pointed to the other end of the counter, where four pale men were reporting a car jacking by a mad, elderly woman described as white, less than five feet tall, glasses, curly white hair, and carrying a large handgun. No charges were filed. The moral of the story? If you’re going to have a senior moment… make it memorable.

  16. Yep!^ If I had only one combo and one lure, it would be a ML spinning rig with an inline spinner. I prefer Panther Martin, but a Roostertail would do the jojb too. Tom

  18. Contrary to popular belief ~ It is completely possible to cast to, detect a strike, play & land bass with a rod that may not necessarily be "The Best". I think I'm working with sticks in the "not Too Bad category" and seem to do OK. Just get one you like, you'll be good. A-Jay

  19. I run a webstore that sells paintball parts and markers. From the backend of the website, I can see the abandoned carts that people make. You would be surprised how many people make up these false carts like that, only to let me down whenever they don't purchase 10+ markers at $1500+ each.

  23. First thing I would do is get rid of the brand and product type in one column. Brand and product would be separate because then you can sort it more easily. I would also make all the generic choices in cell drop downs that you can reference on another page if you wanted to, so you aren't typing or cutting and pasting all the data each time. I am not sure why you would need the hook size/style for each bait either as it doesn't indicate how many you have, they should be their own row so you can tell your actual inventory or what you want. Once you set up the spreadsheet it really wouldn't take long to enter in or change the data points either.

  24. I see most guys posting numbers of fish per day. Because one guys day might be 12 hours and somebody else's day might only be 2 hours, it's hard to make a comparison. I seldom will go fish just to get out of the house for a few hours and If there isn't a reasonable expectation of having a "good" day, say if the river is high and muddy from recent rains, I don't go out. I also take over night or multiple day trips to better waters to up my chances of catching fish. For my own records, I keep track of fish per hour. < 1 Fish Per Hour is a bad day. 1-2 FPH is so-so 2-4 FPH is about average 4-6 FPH Is a pretty good day 6-10 FPH Is a great day. I fish for smallmouth 90% of the time. Any river smallie over 12 inches is going to be fun to catch especially on light tackle. Most guys here would consider a 12 incher a dink, but that 12 inch RIVER smallmouth will drag a 16 inch lake largemouth all over the place. So for me, they are all good but everything over 12 is a lot of fun.

  29. I write with my right hand, pull the trigger with my right hand, bowl, eat, text, etc with my right hand. When it come to reeling.. left. I feel more comfortable with controlling the rod in my right hand. Idk how people control the rod with their left hand and reel righty, when they're right dominant. Makes no sense.

I have a Bull Mastiff that we joke is actually half cat and half manatee. He's incredibly vicious too (pictured with his best buddy). Those two crack me up.

  47. Go online and search for crayfish colors, some excellent links on this topic. Crayfish/crawdads change coloration depending on stage of growth and environment they live in, plus there are 100's of species. Catching and studying the crayfish where you live and fish is the best way to determine local types of crayfish you have and their colors. Tom
