  1. Well I took a buddy out on the local reservoir with me today with hopes of hitting a section of the reservoir that I've never had my boat at. The whole way there my buddy kept saying lets stop here and fish and I kept telling him lets just get where we're headed and we' fish the whole way back. Going to this area was a gamble to begin with since I've never fished this area from a boat, and I have other areas that I know produce. So I had one voice telling me to go where I know the fish are and another one telling me to stick with plan A, which was scout out a new area. Well we get to where I want to go and we start fishing out on this point when all of a sudden we start hearing someone hollering something but we're not sure what they're hollering. Well after fishing across the point and getting closer to the person hollering, my buddy says to me is that someone in the water ( which is illegal here ). I then realize the guy is in water up to his chin and he's screaming help, so I get to him as fast as my 2-55 lb electric motors will take me. The whole way to him I'm thinking he must have his foot stuck or something, when we get there he begins to tell us. He's been lost there for four days now and hasn't had nothing to drink or eat for four days. He said he went there scouting out spots on the bank to fish from when he got real dizzy fell down and couldnt stand back up. He said he tried crawling on his hands and knees trying to find his way out, but was unable to get out so he laid there for four days before he seen us. Needless to say we pulled him into the boat and called 911 and made a plan of where to meet DNR Police. We took him to the closest easiest place to off load him on a basket so the paramedics could take him out on the back of a side by side. Come to find out he has severe high blood pressure along with some other medical issues that he needs daily meds for, but didn't have them. I don't know if he would've died there, but when we rolled up he had the fear of God in his eyes, he said he tried to crawl into the edge of the water. The only problem is he crawled off of a drop off and was immediately in 6' of water, and didn't have the energy to get out. So the moral here is don't run off into the woods with out a phone or letting someone know where your go cause that fast it could be you.

  3. Ok, ok... There's a particular spot where I've been bit before and the general area has given up a few good fish. It's a shallow shelf in about 4 FOW, steps down to ~11FOW with access to 22 FOW within 15 yards. There is sparse vegetation, about a 8" diameter log and good sized chunk rock all in the same location. I made a long cast, parallel to the 11' step and bumped the bait back to me. It hung on the log, popped it free. It hung up in weeds, popped it free. I crawled it almost the whole way back to the boat and popped free of the last patch of weeds. The fish ate the bait about a rod length away from the boat. My buddy was quick with the net and landed her pretty easily. She had both the jig hook and stinger stuck in the roof of the mouth. 76 degree water Low Down Custom Production XH Daiwa Lexa w/ Hawgtech 102mm and Winn knobs 20lb cxx Sheetz MTO ham sub Walmart bottled water Green underwear (I think) Beard That should cover it.

  5. We see these threads all the time here - and I mean all the time. It seems like it's just the way it is now - there are a lot of people on the water and there's bound to be at least some occasions when anglers are a little closer than some would like. I fish in a place that is sparsely populated and rarely ever have anyone fishing the same lake as I do so I do not deal with this. Since Turnabout is usually considered fair play - I have an idea . . . . . What if every time another boat / angler comes too close or infringes on your water, you simply stop fishing, and go right over to the boat. And I mean right up to it. Slap on a Big Smile and start shooting the breeze about the fishing . . . . . And don't leave until he does. If you fish the same waters all the time and you do this enough - eventually you'll get the reputation as "The guy who comes over to all the boats he see's and won't shut up " People will no doubt Avoid You in the Future. Big Win right there. A-Jay

  7. Got out fishing 2 days this weekend. First day was a grind with nothing of size to show for it. I decided to go back to the same lake the next day and stayed dedicated to the Gan Craft 178 after seeing perch up shallow by overhangs and laydowns. Ended up putting some nice fish in the boat running this pattern. Select 1080 before watching for best video quality.

  9. Seems like a good mix of stuff like I expected but I do see a good amount of folks having success with senkos. Just to make sure I follow the "no pic so if didn't happen" rule, here's a pic of my PB. I WISH we could see 10 pounders like that but we just don't see fish like that all that often up here. The state record is 11lbs and change.

  16. While it may be close if i can't cast and hit them, I generally think it is ok, albeit kind of annoying as I work my way down a shoreline or piece of structure. Another thing you could have gleaned from the experience is why was he sitting in that one spot for thirty minutes? I would have probably hung out and watched him fish for a while and then as soon as he was gone i would head to his spot and see why he was there.

  17. By adjusting the brakes on your baitcaster I meant adjusting spool tension (see #1 in the photo below) and the magnetic brake system (see #2 in the photo below). After some practice you will develop a very light touch with the thumb, just the right amount to prevent any over-run but not so much to kill your distance. As you develop that "educated thumb" you will begin the set your reel much more wide open on the spool tension and brakes.

  19. Launched out of Ed Allen's Saturday morning and boated 8 bass. 5 were keepers and the big fish of the day was just over 3lbs. They were destroying black swim baits in the back Lacey creek. I also caught a ton of bowfin an pickerel on a KVD crank bait. (I stopped counting after 10) Then, around 2 pm the lightning became a real concern so we decided to call it a day.

  20. Doing the simple math, that means that there are about 7 boats still catching fish. I'd bet even money that its the same seven, right? Time for some constructive criticism. Your post makes it sound like you need help in finding the lure or technique to get you back on the 4lber's you were catching last month, and that's wrong. The real problem has nothing to do with the lure and everything to do with location. If you are fishing the same lures in the same locations and the results have changed, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that the fish have changed and you haven't. Time for some advice. Your tournament is only four hours long, so you need to concentrate your efforts on the limited amount of remaining cover, whether its those trees, cribs, or a patch of weeds that didn't get sprayed into oblivion. If after the first two hours you still haven't put anything in the box, put down the rods and take a boat ride. By now you should have figured out what the "lucky" seven are fishing out of, so go look for them. At less than 600 acres, it shouldn't take too long to find all of them. See where they're fishing at, mark those spots on your GPS, and then go back to those spots a day or two later, and see what those areas hold (besides fish). Once you've figured out what the "lucky" guys are targeting, make yourself some luck by finding somewhere that has the same conditions/cover/whatever that's holding fish.

  21. Bowfishing is by far the easiest way to get a grass carp. Small cherry tomatoes and pieces of cattail stalk are the best baits I've found for them. They can be taken fly fishing as well. I've caught one on a wooly bugger. If you can find a Mulberry tree dropping fruit then you have a very good chance at catching one under the naturally chummed area. They'll also eat cottonseed which is a good time to try to fly fish for them with small, white, puffy dry flies.

  22. "Sink Rate" is governed primarily by Line Diameter rather than Line Density (an angler who trolls is the best source of information). The following is based on a large-scale study performed by Tackletour: 1) Braided line is virtually non-stretch 2) Fluorocarbon stretches a lot, and the difference in stretch between nylon and fluorocarbon is inconsequential. In fact, some brands of fluoro stretch more than some brands of nylon ("nylon" is commonly referred to as "mono") 3) Due to lower water-resistance, fine line offers a more natural delivery than fat line (braid is a fine line; fluoro is a fat line) 4) Fluorocarbon line is susceptible to ruptures & fracturing, hence "Low Knot Strength" (not so braid) Finally, the angling world should really compare "abrasion-resistance" based on an equal volume of material. Comparing the abrasion-resistance of fat line to the abrasion-resistance of fine line is not a fair comparison. Roger

  24. Drag pressure is over rated, over hyped nonsense in 99% of most bass fishing applications, buy they reel you like/want, lock the drag down, and be done with worrying about it.

  25. Hello and Welcome to Bass Resource ~ Hard to say from here what the whole deal is / was but the lighter weight (1/8 oz) may allow a bait to lay on top of the vegetation instead of burying all up in it. Also I'd be using braided line. A-Jay

  28. If you want to do something about carp, go bowfish for them, or target them specifically on rod and reel and kill every single one you catch. If I snag one or accidentally catch one while bass fishing, there's no reason for me to kill it, I won't solve any problems. And even if I went out and shot 50 of them with my bow, I'm probably not going to have much influence. My favorite place to carp fish is also my favorite place to bass fish, lots of both, size and numbers. I'm sure they can hurt fisheries but I just don't see it happening around here.

  30. Plastics: I have a lot of different colors because I use a lot of different companies that offer different colors. If I could only have a select few it would be green pumpkin, watermelon, black and blue ,junebug, plum apple, and white Crankbaits: It really depends on the company. My favorites are American Shad (LC), Chartreuse (company doesn't matter), sexy shad (company doesn't matter), and gizzard shad (6th sense) Jigs: Black and Blue, Green Pumpkin, and Brown. Jerkbaits: Don't even get me started......... Lipless Cranks: Blue Chrome and some sort of Red Craw color

  31. Here we go again.... Nothing will change the views of common carp on either side of the love or hate debate. There are "facts" to back up either side, and no one wants to be confused by the facts I love them as sport fish and I'll continue to catch and release both Common and Grass Carp. Fortunately I've never encountered an Asian/Silver carp...but they are not the same and shouldn't be viewed as such. It's worth mentioning that in many park lakes I've fished it's illegal to kill stocked (sterilized) Grass Carp...that is my parting shot against those that wish to kill them for non-food use
