  1. Got out for a few hours today to look for some big smallies. With the full moon this week and water temps still in the low 60's I expected some smallies would make another push shallow. There werent as many bedding fish as I expected and the ones that were on beds were paired up and spooky. It's not a tournament, so I really didnt need to bother those fish. Let them do their thing. I moved out to some gravel ridges a little deeper than the bedding fish and threw tubes on the edges. The bite was tough, but I landed 7 or 8 fish, with the biggest 5 going around 23lbs. I dont mind a tough bite when the fish are big.

  3. That looks perfect. A Texas rigged 10" power worm on a 1/2 oz - 1 oz weight. And be patient. When you think you are fishing slow, slow down. Then when you think you are fishing too slow, slow down.

  4. It gets worse everyday. As a public educator of 10 years I can tell you that from experience. I almost feel sorry for my son having to grow up in this day and age.

  5. I decided to remodel the kitchen in our old single wide trailer. Now, it's worth more than the entire trailer was worth. I've got advice for anyone else that want's to think about doing that. "Match"

  6. I caught my first Big slammer fish today, pulled out the scale to get a weight and what do ya know the battery was dead. So I took measurements, this thing was def a football, 21"x 20"! (steel tape so girth could be a little off) Weight calculator says 8.6. Is that thing fairly accurate? Either way it was a good fish.

  7. Such an Important Day in our Counties History ~ Celebrate Safely Everyone. A-Jay A Brief History of America’s Independence Day "Taxation without representation!" was the battle cry in America’s 13 Colonies, which were forced to pay taxes to England's King George III despite having no representation in the British Parliament. As dissatisfaction grew, British troops were sent in to quell the early movement toward rebellion. Repeated attempts by the Colonists to resolve the crisis without military conflict proved fruitless. On June 11, 1776, the Colonies' Second Continental Congress met in Philadelphia and formed a committee whose express purpose was drafting a document that would formally sever their ties with Great Britain. The committee included Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman and Robert R. Livingston. Jefferson, who was considered the strongest and most eloquent writer, crafted the original draft document (as seen above). A total of 86 changes were made to his draft and the Continental Congress officially adopted the final version on July 4, 1776. The following day, copies of the Declaration of Independence were distributed, and on July 6, The Pennsylvania Evening Post became the first newspaper to print the extraordinary document. The Declaration of Independence has since become our nation's most cherished symbol of liberty. On July 8, 1776, the first public readings of the Declaration were held in Philadelphia's Independence Square to the ringing of bells and band music. One year later, on July 4, 1777, Philadelphia marked Independence Day by adjourning Congress and celebrating with bonfires, bells and fireworks. The custom eventually spread to other towns, both large and small, where the day was marked with processions, oratory, picnics, contests, games, military displays and fireworks. Observations throughout the nation became even more common at the end of the War of 1812 with Great Britain. Congress established Independence Day as a holiday in 1870, and in 1938 Congress reaffirmed it as a paid holiday for federal employees. Today, communities across the nation mark this major midsummer holiday with parades, firework displays, picnics and performances of "The Star-Spangled Banner".

  8. I didn't say that, sick person. I'm saying the team pro team red and Team Gold are the same as the Tournament Pro barring weight and cosmetics. That is fact.Same duralumin main gear, crank shaft, and worm, same 11 bearings, same carbon handle (different knobs), same aluminum frame (pro is lighter), same spool. Different finish, different side plate materials, different knobs. My statement has nothing to do with the other Doyo made reels.

  12. Did you try backing off the spool tension and ensuring the spool is fully seated, then try again? I know it seems obvious and you probably did, but worth mentioning.

  18. Chatterbait fish and a spook fish! Long story behind the spook, let's just say I've been throwing them for a year and a half now with no fish.....I've tried so hard! lol I can't believe it's taken me so long. And I've been throwing chatterbaits for about a month now, glad to finally get one on them. These were two of the last things on my list of baits I haven't caught a fish on. Glad to see it's getting shorter =D

  19. Looks like they have a one year 100% guarantee on them. Which probably doesn't cover if you lose it, theft, that it runs true, that the paint won't chip, or that the hooks are sharp. But it's guaranteed for a year.

  20. Something just didn't feel right about it. Folks have told me here that Spiderwire Stealth frays. That's not been my experience -- except for this thin stuff. I put 4lb mono on it, but may try a different small-diameter braid. Josh

  21. Although I haven't used it, based on holding it in my hand, the combo feels like a pool stick with a reel on it .

  25. Nice Job ~ Both lures are killer baits when the fish want them. I caught a few pre-dawn spook bass myself this morning, the first one was at the boat ramp before I launched . . . . A-Jay

  28. I was trolling for crappie at Sardis a few years ago and had a ski flea buzzing all around me and waking me. I don't think the noise hurts the fishing any, but the wake is really obnoxious while trolling. Fast forward a few hours later, I'm finishing up my limit further up the lake and I hear some voices in the distance. As I get closer, I realize it's the same idiots from before. They are now out of gas and in need of a tow. I just kept fishing as I closed the distance, about a mile, until I got my last fish. Then I towed the dipsh*t in about 7 miles and just asked him to return the favor to someone in the future. You can't fix stupid, but I may need help on the water myself one day and it was the right thing to do.

  29. I like Sunline Super FC Sniper or Seagur Tatsu for what you're describing. I haven't tried braid on my spinning gear yet, but I hate dealing with leader knots. I've not had anymore issues with memory or twist then I've had with mono.

  30. This morning is the two year anniversary of my current PB (the fish in my profile). Not sure of the size, but it was around 5lb. The scale I used was an old junky spring scale that overestimates weight a little bit, and it read about 5 1/3 pounds. So I just call it "about 5" and I figure my next confirmed 5er is a new pb. The length was "about 20", but I didn't get a confident measure of that, either. So, this morning I returned to the same lake, armed with a shiny new -- and confirmed accurate-- Rapala digital scale in search of a.... ....well, sorry, no new pb happened today, but a few decent fish, anyway. The first of the morning, 2 pounds, 4oz on a mojo-rigged junebug baby brush hog: Second fish, about 10 minutes later 1 pound 12oz on a texas-rigged junebug Mag II worm: Next cast, same worm, same spot, came the biggest of the day: 3 pounds 7oz: An hour and three dinks later, another 2lb-er on t-rigged rage craw (blue craw), 2lb 6oz: This "having an accurate scale" stuff is kind of neat!

  34. AdamsEye using a good braking system for beginners makes the process of learning more enjoyable. Backing off on spool tension and brakes is a natural progression that happens as skill and confidence grows. I learned to swim by being tossed off the dock. It was effective, but I don't recommend it.

  36. haha my most expensive lure is probably on many anglers' least expensive lure list ...a Yo-Zuri Pins Minnow, bought about 7 years ago for around $8. Never caught a fish with it, but also never really use it very often.

  37. Google 'Loomis CR721IMX' and you will find out that this is a very popular and extremely fun rod to use and new ones have a high end price tag. I have two of them and I paid $99.99 plus shipping for my last one on eBay and it was in excellent condition.
