  1. Hey guys! Went out to my local pond today and caught a decent largemouth on some topwater today. I forgot to bring my scale with me, but by the looks of him I'd say this is my PB. Nothin too big compared to the hawgs I've seen on BR but for me... well I'm excited! What do you guys think it weighs?? To me I think it's a solid 3 at least (P.s. I'm a pretty big guy so the fish might look a little small compared to me lol)

  2. I don't know what this bass was doing but she was hiding in a clump of grass that was about 3' x 5' that had an opening about 6" x 14". She was about 10' off the bank & was acting like she was on a nest but the spawn has been over for 3 months. The first day Aiden flipped a Zoom finesse worm (gooseberry) to her repeatedly for about 30-45 minutes but she refused to acknowledge it. The second day he flipped a Zoom baby brush hog (watermelon neon) to her, this time she reacted by nosing it but never tried to bite it. We spent about an hour that morning & again that evening. The third day we switched to a Zoom baby brush hog (green flash), the first flip she flared her gills & started to suck it in but Aiden over reacted & pulled it away. She circled grass bed & hide under the grass. I told Aiden to calm down & don't set hook until yoy feel her. She charged at it but again Aiden pulls it away. She swam off about 15-20' but returned to the opening. This time I told Aiden as soon as you flip close your eyes & feel for her, BAM! Hook up. Aiden was visible trembling, saying that was awesome!

  5. Went up to PA this weekend to fish Saturday with my brother in law. We went out on the Juniata River for about 5-6hrs. I have never caught a smallie before, but Saturday I probably caught around 15. They are like pure muscle - I caught a super small one maybe 6" and weighed a few ounces but while I held her to get unhooked she fought like a 1lb+ LMB for sure! Had a great time and hope to catch some more brown fish in the future. Matt First ever Smallie!! Nicest one of the day. She hit like a freight train - probably the hardest hit I've ever had. She literally had the entire crankbait in her mouth. The picture doesn't do her justice but she was +/-18" and 2.5-3lb.

  6. Yup. Thats why i got a scale. Id rather be honest than deceiving, makes that elusive 5lb bass all the more bigger when i finally catch her! I dont fish to brag, k fish because i enjoy it.

  7. If you hold a 2-pounder close to a GoPro, then it looks like an 8-pounder. Look no further than on some of the more popular YouTube bass channels to see what I mean. It's ridiculous. LOL! Guys, nobody can really tell how big a fish is just by a picture, no matter how close or far it is from the camera, no matter the camera angle, no matter what kind of camera. Don't believe me? I have proof. The "Guess the weight" contests receive thousands of guesses, over 10,000 each. But every time...EVERY time, less than 100 people get it right. Yup, less than 1%!! I'll be posting a thorough article with facts and figures in the future on this, but wanted to lend a little insight here.

  9. yesterday i began my "practical exams" on fishing senkos. I have been reading and reading all i can on here about fishing them up til now, so many thanks to the folks on here for the wealth of knowledge. Yesterday though it was time for some real world learning though. So i did it the way i always have when wanting to learn a new technique, i left the other stuff at home and took ONLY the new lures. I stuck only to rigging it weightless and texsposed for now. Here are the things i learned yesterday at my buddys pond: 1. hot-a-mighty do they work !!! Yesterday was one of the best days in a long while for numbers of bass. Biggest i landed was about 2.5lbs but i broke off a few bigger. Overall i caught 20+ in about 4 hours from 4-dark. I missed many many more though. 2. I defenitly need to switch to braid over the mono i was using. I used some late on the rod i was letting my gf use and it was easier for me to feel strikes as well as the color (hi vis yellow power pro) was much easier to see for checking fall rate and twitches. I was using 8# mono and broke off repeatedly. It was my only spinning reel, but im researching now for a a better one in the $100 range. I had already upgraded rod to fish these. 3. Due to the softness they will be pricey to use. i was like most i saw in research and only getting 1-2 fish per worm. I do have some mend it glue already i use to do "leg transplants" on my paca craws and will be trying it in the next day or so to extend the life of the broken ones i was able to recover. 4. I am going to have to get better at detecting strikes and bites earlier since too often i had deep hooks where the fish was already trying to swallow it. I hate doing that to fish. I am a catch and release only guy and i try to be mindful to minimize time out of water. I want it to become a bigger fish next time. 5. I am a beleiver now and look forward to learning more to add this to my arsenal of lures and tecniques i use to catch fish... I welcome comments and tips, especially money savers, on other ideas and things i can do to better myself at this.

  10. I'm sure many of you have known about bucktail jigs but I myself just got on board! I was throwing the Prayer jig by Cumberland Pro but stock has dried up around here so I started making my own. Plus I made a giant version around 7 in. long! Big fish catcher! I guess this should go in the tackle making section but I was wondering who all has had success with them and what presentations have worked best? I like to reel it and kill it!

  11. If you love the Sahara then I would say no. The president can be had for relatively little $$. If your interested, my advice would be to just add it to your collection. Rather than removing a reel that you love.

  13. Yeah, if you're gonna lie you might as well do it somewhere where it's acceptable... ...like when you go a courtin' or run for office

  14. Hmm. If you weigh and measure objectively, and don't lie about the numbers, why does it matter what it looks like in the photo?

  15. I don't think it matters much. I primarily use Shimano and Daiwa, but also have Pflueger, Cabela's and Okuma spinning reels, and can't say that I notice any difference in how they handle braid - and I use Power Pro a lot. The recommendation is simply there because Shimano owns Power Pro, so naturally they're going to try and promote or recommend their counterparts, because two sales are better than one -T9

  17. 1. hot-a-mighty do they work !!! Yesterday was one of the best days in a long while for numbers of bass. Biggest i landed was about 2.5lbs but i broke off a few bigger. Overall i caught 20+ in about 4 hours from 4-dark. I missed many many more though. - OUTSTANDING. KEEP IT UP AND YOU WILL HAVE A LOT OF FUN FISHING SENKOS. I had already upgraded rod to fish these.- USE FLOUROCARBON. 8 POUND TEST ON A SPINNING RIG AND 12 POUNDS ON A BAITCASTER. ALWAYS CHECK LINE FOR NICKS, CUTS AND SCRAPES. CUT OUT DAMAGED LINE. ALWAYS CHECK YOUR KNOT AFTER TWO OR THREE BASS. ALWAYS KEEP A FINGER ON THE LINE COMING OFF THE REEL. REELS IN THE $100 RANGE ARE GOOD BUT SO ARE LESS EXPENSIVE REELS. IT IS THE ROD YOU HAVE TO USE FOR SUCCESS. 3. Due to the softness they will be pricey to use. i was like most i saw in research and only getting 1-2 fish per worm. I do have some mend it glue already i use to do "leg transplants" on my paca craws and will be trying it in the next day or so to extend the life of the broken ones i was able to recover. YES. CHECK OUT THE PLASTIC GLUE AT YOUR FAVORITE TACKLE SHOP OR ON LINE AT CABELA'S OR BPS. TO AVOID TORN UP SENKOS LEARN TO THROW THEM "WACKY RIGGED." USE HEAT SHRINK RAP AROUND THE MIDDLE OF THE WORM (1/8 INCH WIDE) AND HEAT IT UP AND THEN RUN YOUR HOOK BETWEEN THE WRAP AND SKIN. YOU CAN CATCH MANY, MANY BASS ON THIS SETUP. 4. I am going to have to get better at detecting strikes and bites earlier since too often i had deep hooks where the fish was already trying to swallow it. I hate doing that to fish. I am a catch and release only guy and i try to be mindful to minimize time out of water. I want it to become a bigger fish next time. - ALWAYS WATCH YOUR LINE AND KEEP FINGER ON LINE. ANYTHING "DIFFERENT' YOU SET THE HOOK. SOMETIMES THEY WILL HIT A SENKO HARD AND OTHER TIMES THE WILL EITHER SIT THERE WITH IT IN THEIR MOUTHS OR WALK AWAY SLOWLY. WHEN IN DOUBT ALWAYS SET THE HOOK. IF YOU ARE DEEP HOOKING THEM THEN YOU ARE LETTING THEM HAVE IT TOO LONG, AS YOU KNOW. AND TO HAVE THE BASS HOLD ONTO THE SENKO LONGER USE MEGASTRIKE ON THE SENKO. GOOD LUCK AND HAVE FUN LEARNING HOW TO RIG AND USE SENKOS. 5. I am a beleiver now and look forward to learning more to add this to my arsenal of lures and tecniques i use to catch fish...

  19. I buy and sell on Ebay frequently and have been for many years. It's fairly easy to determine who you should deal with and who you shouldn't. I will buy from those who have many transactions and high ratings, for me that's 99 to 100%. I look for grammar, condition of item, look at their feedback. There are buyers who are unreasonable so if there is negative feedback for someone who has an item that you want you can read it to see what happened and if it was warranted or makes sense against all of their positive feedback. You can usually tell if it's some yahoo that just wants to be difficult. Most of the time it will be someone with few transactions that does this type of thing from what I've seen. Most people that sell on Ebay are concerned about having a good reputation so they can continue to do business on there. I wouldn't hesitate to buy on Ebay but you have to use common sense, good judgement, and do a little research. In the end, you have to have a little faith as well but I would wager that 99% of folks are going to treat you right on Ebay. That's been my experience anyway.

  20. Don't sweat it, happens to everyone. I spend more time on my home body of water (Silver Lake) than just about everyone else I compete against combined, and while I am consistently in the money, I am not immune from a couple of real stinkers a year, and you never know when those flops are coming. Often times they happen for me after I have been killing it all week fun fishing and get too stubborn to adapt to a change that has taken place, or when I get spun out and lose focus after a slow start to the day.

  21. Interesting weekend and plenty of highs and lows to finish the tourney. Kudos to Mr. Spieth for a great run in the majors, but without a doubt, Jason Day earned a ton of my respect to play the way he did suffering with vertigo. If I was Dustin Johnson, I don't think I would have slept very well last night or for the next week or two for that matter.

  24. I don't know anything about the E6X so my experience is based entirely on the Classic Mag Bass rods. The MBR782GLX, 783GLX, 842GLX, 843GLX and the 844GLX have earned a legendary status over the years as excellent bass rods that do a whole lot of things very well. In the 3 powers, I have the 783GLX and I have had the 843IMX and they load up very well with a 1/4oz bullet weight and a regular size soft plastic or a 1/4 jig and trailer. Lately, I have been using my 783GLX for throwing unweighted Super Flukes and it also a great rod for 5" Senko's The 783GLX and 843GLX also have a reputation as excellent 3/8oz spinnerbait rods. There are many other uses for these rods as I have only mentioned a few of them. I my experience, the fast action of the 3 power Classic MBR's are a lot easier to cast than the ex fast BCR803C GLX or the ex fast NRX803C with the NRX803C being easier to cast than the BCR803C GLX. 783GLX and a Super Fluke this weekend.

  28. Between my two boys, we are at baseball 4-5 nights per week. This is really cutting into my bass fishing. I know they will be grown soon and I will miss all of this but can't we just have 1 game per week, per kid? I am going through withdrawals. Luckily 1 of their seasons ends this week and the other in 2 weeks.

  29. Bass season FINALLY arrived so I headed up to Balsam Lake to nail some smallies. Caught a good number of fish theses being the best. By far my best season opener I've ever had and first season opener I've fished on Balsam. Also have never caught a SMB on opener day so I feel I'm off to a great start!

  30. I don't want micro guides for this rod so I'm looking at a Macro Pro Model number: DFMA66MH-C or DFMA69MH-C This rod has to be a bit versatile. I want to use it for 1/4-1/2 oz baits. examples would be: Spinner baits, Square bills, Finesse jigs and plastics. I have no idea what the action is like on this rod. I have my concerns based on opinions I've read about Duckett's (soft) over weight rated blanks..Duckett does not mention rod tip action at all? I want a rod with some back bone and a fast tip. Advice will be much appreciated.

  31. To light my way down the ramp at night. Used 5/16 x 4" galvanized bolts and thru bolted the mounts I went overkill on the wire. I could have run a single wire from the brake solenoid to the lights and just tapped the negative off one of the taillights. Instead I ran 16/2 rubber insulated the entire run. Thankfully I was able to fish it thru the framerail relatively easy.

  32. I ended up buying the Lew's Tournament Lite and it has been a joy to fish so far. But everyone that has a Team Lite says that it's their favorite reel! If I had it to do over, I'd grab the Team Lite. The new Chronarch seems nice too, but not better than my 50E. My Tournament Lite and her first bass:

  33. The hackle feathers serve as a trailer. They have a subtle kick with just a straight retrieve. I've been throwing 5/8, 3/4, and 1 oz. pending on depth and wind. 5/8 for 8-10 fow, 3/4 for 10-16 fow, and 1 oz. up to 25 fow. On windy days I may go a little heavier. I also use heavier ones if the fish are off the side of the ledge to keep better contact and to get a more vertical fall.

  36. Monofilament is not very sensative so you will be looking at your line for bites. Braid is much more sensitive so you will feel bites much better. Just get use to using it and soon you won't even need to look at your line.

  37. Power Pro makes a yellow braid if you want to line watch. You don't have to be only feeling for the bite.

  38. I'd prefer the 7.1 for sure. I like faster reels in a yak to pick up slack line quickly when I'm drifting around to get better hook sets.

  40. I feel the handle and grip is quite comfortable for extended use. The very first generation of NRX rods had handle issues and breakage complaints from how it locks down. They have apparently fixed that problem going forward. I haven't heard much worry or concern on any rods recently so hopefully that was a thing of the past. There is a way you could tell a Gen 1 rod from a Gen 2 rod but I can't recall off the top of my head. But getting back to the grips and reel seat everything on mine seems to be just fine. I would not want to steer you stray on the NRX rod as when you are dropping about $400 you want to make sure you get it right. The 893/894/873 are all rods that are both popular and great for feel techniques on the bottom. On my 873 I fish a lot of 1/4 oz tungsten weights with plastic such as SK rodent or Ribbontail worm, 3/8 oz jigs with trailer, 1/2 oz jigs with trailer and some of the bigger 1/2 oz California style swim jigs. The rod handles all of these just fine. It would NOT be wise choice for a weightless plastic or casting 3/4 oz jigs with trailers. When you go down in length to the 853/854 and shorter I am not sure how they fish as some say they fish a bit lighter. It is odd that the custom builders find nothing special about the NRX blanks when they test them yet the guys that have fished dozens of rod lines will say that they offer the most feel and performance. I haven't tried all mid to high end offerings so it would be difficult to make factual statements about something being the "Best" plus we know that rods, reels, and line perform different to each of us. Probably the most overlooked aspect of the NRX rods at least my 873 is casting distance. I know it isn't as important as accuracy but I have never used another rod that gives me the same casting distance. I will conclude by saying the longer rods tend to have a "VERY LIGHT" tip heaviness to them but it isn't all that noticeable. Spent a few minutes handling an 893 at the local shop and felt the rod was very acceptably balanced given the length. I wouldn't put a feather light reel on it but something like 6.5. to 7.5 ounce reel would balance perfectly. Good luck, and I would say based upon the rods that you have used or currently use, the NRX would be a nice addition. If you don't like it for some reason the market is very favorable and you shouldn't have a problem getting $340+ shipped for the rod.

  43. He has a yammie 4 stroke, not a carbed merc. There is no reason to put it in neutral to start it up. I'm glad you are able to completely rebuild a motor while out on the water. Most people cannot. And when a break down occurs with 3 foot rollers on the lake slamming into a rocky shoreline is more like it. I'd much rather have an anchor. My Lund is a fishing machine. Doesn't mean the wife and kids never want to go out for a swim.
