  2. I do a lot of bank fishing. I like it. It is because of my fly fishing roots. I like being on foot. Right now I am doing very well with hollow body frogs and punching using a Black Neon YUM Mighty Bug which is working well. Just picked up some heavy cover swim jigs and I will give those a go over the weekend. My best lake bank bass (LBB) so far...

  6. Finally a fish worth pulling the camera out for. On my local Maryland reservoir yesterday after work. Of late I've been doing alright with the 15" to 17" largemouth but the better fish have been eluding me. This one went five pounds on the nose. 3/8th ounce football jig with a baby paca craw, I tie the skirt with round rubber. I was working along the 18 foot deep contour line. Made a long cast, let the jig hit the bottom, then just let it sit still for 30 seconds. Did not feel the tap, just saw the line start to move. The water is extremely clear in this reservoir and the place gets a lot of fishing pressure. Frequently the best retrieve is no retrieve at all. A bass hunting along the contour will see the jig and craw just fine. Excessive movement seems to deter the older fish.

  8. Its not a big deal, bass fishing is a blood sport and its bound to happen to everyone. Just get better at removing the hooks, and if your really that worried pinch down your barbs.

  9. Wheeler fished both last year's BASSfest as well as this years BASSmaster Classic. He does fish the B.A.S.S. Opens, and that was how he got the invite to BASSfest. Since he won BASSfest, he then got the Classic slot that was given to the winner. Outside of that, he is considered an FLW Pro for the moment. Martens last year on the regular FLW Tour was in 2006, though he did fish the 4 Tour Opens back in 2011. No other FLW events since then. He has almost $600,000 in FLW winnings to his credit though from back when many of the B.A.S.S. guys fished both circuits. Ehrler just switched to the Elites this past year via his B.A.S.S. Opens standings. As for favorite FLW pros, mine would be Wheeler, Fukae, Nixon, Morgan and Alex Davis. Also like to follow how Mark Daniels is performing this year (Circuit Breaker). -T9

  10. I don't disagree. But We can't just go thru life coddling everyone and telling them everything is ok. At some point in time people need to take responsibility AND be held responsible for their actions or inactions. I did see ineptness in the trades and that was mostly shops gambling on cheap help. It happens in both union and non union shops. What I see hear is just plain disregard for doing what they were hired to do. These kids get paid pretty well right out of college. Most of them don't earn it, if that makes sense, and even fewer can think for themselves. I would think a prerequisite of being in "operations" would be someone who can think for themselves and not afraid to make decisions. Maybe it's the education system not preparing them for the real world OR maybe the real world is just changing and I'm some grouchy old dinosaur who is soon to be extinct.

  12. Out at one of my local haunts tonight dragging a Booyah Pad Crasher through the slop. Twitch, twitch...slow retrieve....stop...twitch...when I heard the unmistakable "toilet flush" of a HUGE bass suck it down. I played it perfectly. Gave it a 2 count and tried to break her neck. SOLID hookup. Was throwing my Pro Qualifier with the drag turned all the way up to 10. She started swimming away from me like it wasn't even there. I kept the pressure on her when she suddenly about faced and came straight at me. It caught me off off guard for a second and as soon as she felt that slack she came straight up out of the water. She was beautiful and would have beaten my PB (9.3) by at least a lb...maybe 2. She got completely out of the water.....and spit the hook. ...and somewhere....the Gods laughed. I'm coming for you ol' girl. I know you're in there now. You will be mine..(for a minute or 2 until I put you back!) That's my tale of woe. Let's hear yours

  13. I got out for a good evening fish last night and can finally say that I made progress catching bass on a jig. I decided to fish a jig and ONLY a jig and I can truly say that if you don't have confidence in a lure, that's the way to gain confidence. I will admit that I had a t-rigged rage craw tied on as well for the times when confidence got really low and I needed a break. It was already a hard day of fishing because of a cold front that moved in and dropped temps a good 10-15 degrees while the wind picked up to 15-20 mph gusts but I managed to catch two bass on the jig. The first was on a 3/8 oz. black and blue Siebert Outdoors dredge arky head/Rage Chunk combo that I skipped under a dock. A lil dink decided that he had high hopes so he slammed it as hard as a lil dink could. That was after a good hour and a half of no action whatsoever! The second one is a rather depressing story. I threw the same jig combo right up next to a thick lay down and right away a toad of a bass slammed it. At the time, I didn't really know how big he was because he was swimming towards me. I got him to the boat and instead of reaching down to grab him by the lip, I tried to flip him into the boat. I finally got to see how big he was when I got him about 3 inches outta the water and he was a TOAD!! It was at that exact moment that he fought one last time and the line snapped. Not only did he get away but he got away with my jig in his mouth. I definitely wasn't happy about losing the jig but I felt really bad about the fish having to live with a big ol jig hanging out of his mouth. Hopefully someone else catches him soon and is rewarded with a free jig and relieves the fish of having to live with my mistake.

  16. Sounds like your line is dug into itself on the spool. Try peeling off 20-30 yards til it starts coming off easy, and then reel it back on with light tension. Sounds like it needs to be used more to break it in some, don't write it off yet.

  17. My philosophy is this; I'm always pleasant and polite with people as long as they are the same with me. Even if I'm a paying customer in a restaurant, that doesn't make me any better of a person than my waiter/waitress. Just the same as a customer coming into my job doesn't make them any better than me. Everybody has bad days and you don't know what someone's situation may be. If people are pleasant, then being pleasant and polite back will get you further and make life more enjoyable for everyone. People who are unpleasant for no reason usually have an issue with themselves, not the person in front of them. Pretty simple concept if you ask me.

  20. Bob Lusk was talking about how its good for some fisheries to take out those 10-15 inch bass. Apparently the smaller bass make it more difficult for the larger bass to eat enough to grow later in life, or something to that effect. Anyway, you shouldnt feel too bad. At least it didnt go to waste.

  21. Don't feel too bad, you didn't decimate the population, you didn't ruin fishing for years to come, and you probably did less damage than mother nature does on a daily basis!

  24. Pinch the barb down if you're concerned about it. Also learn how to unhook a deeply hooked bass properly and it should be very easy to remove that little hook from their gullet. I fish a Ned a lot and actually have very little problem with deeply hooking fish. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/12981-how-do-i-remove-a-hook-a-bass-has-swallowed/page-2

  25. You can not base how an engine runs when running on a hose. It has to be in the water at its normal depth if it was on the back of a boat sitting in water. The water creates a back pressure and the motor is not going to idle/run properly without that back pressure, so never try to adjust carbs etc while on a hose. Lean means it's getting too much air and not enough gas. Lean at low rpm/idle will make it sneeze and spit back through the carbs. Lean at high rpm can make the piston domes hot enough to melt the centers out, making it go kaboom, and requiring a major rebuild. As for running it, I would be a little Leary about that. I have seen more than one leaking recirc line melt a piston.

  29. The started getting "stuck" is probably just the brushes worn out and not making good contact. Most of the time they are spot welded in so they have to be replaced by a start/alternator repair shop. The hoses you are referring to are probably the recirculation hoses. Gas has a tendency to separate from the air stream and puddle up in certain places in a two stroke motor. The bottom of the boost port is one of those places and they put the hoses there to pull it out. To keep large droplets of gas from getting into the cylinder that will not get properly burned, it is sucked back into the intake manifold where it can get remixed in the air stream again. If it's leaking, it needs to be replaced, it can cause a lean condition on that cylinder. As for replaceable, they are on the OMC/BRP motors, I would assume they are on the mercs. That should just be a nipple on the block at the cylinder and the other end will probably be the recirc valve. This makes it so the fuel will only travel in one direction. DO NOT try blow into the valve, a lot of them can be damaged if you do. They are usually tested with the intake off and dropping alcohol in them.

  34. I said it before, and will say it again; if you're not catching the quantity or quality you want, it's because 1. you can't reach useful structure from the shoreline => in which case, find yourself another (smaller) reservoir. 2. or you don't know how to catch them => in which case, work on your fishing tactics- knowledge about bass, baitfish, structure, baits and presentations. Here's a 9-07 NLMB from walking the banks. *Post-spawn* fish btw.

  35. 1) With the hook in the gullet, note which side of the fish's mouth the hook shank is toward. Note: For illustration sake, the line is eliminated here in steps 2 through 5. In reality, the line stays connected as this technique is performed. (2) With a finger or two, reach in through the last gill arch on that side of the fish and push and pull down on the hookeye so the hook turns and . . . (3) rolls out below the gill toward the side of the fish. At that point, amazingly, the hook, barb and all, almost always pops free from its hold in the fish's gullet. (4) Reach into the fish's mouth and grip the bend in the hook (which is now up) and . . . (5) lift it free. If the fish's mouth is too small to reach in with your hand, use a needle-nose pliers to grip the hook bend. What needs to be emphasized is how resilient a fish's gills actually are -- far from being the fragile organs often suggest by some sources. And the occasional bleeding fish? Does it have to be kept? Just get the fish back into the water as soon as possible and, more often than not, the bleeding stops. The technique also works superbly on walleyes, smallmouths, and other fish, usually taken on smaller hooks, often salmon-style hooks.

  37. Auction site score. $76 plus $19 shipping. Won and paid for it Sunday night about 9:30. Was in my hands by 1pm today. Talk about service! Fuego 6:3:1 gear set was ordered Monday from Daiwa. Along with some other things for it. I had a spare Steez 100 spool laying around since I put an SV spool in mine. Should make a nice little reel. Plans to get it painted sometime soon.

  40. Before i got my kayak with an electronics pod I tried the arm and i hated it. It always seemed to move and i had to take it in and out and it would get hung up on grass and other stuff, not to mention the extra drag it created. I then went with the thru hull method and kicked myself for not doing it sooner. Sure i lost a little of the temperature readings but once i was on the water it was pretty close to a handheld thermometer i got to check the accuracy. I looked at a cellblock but it seems pretty pricey for what you get and it also adds a lot of weight to one side of the kayak. If it was me i would go thru hull with a ram mount for the fish finder itself in a place you can access but it isn;t in the way. I had mine on my right side on a track so it was out of the way but easily moved when needed.

  45. I hardly think the success of a Ned Rig, whether branded that way or not could be considered a ploy of any kind. Now the Banjo Minnow? That's a ploy. The Ned Rig, while not created by ZMan, has just been capitalized by ZMan, they saw an apparent hole in the market that needed filled, provided a product based on their research and have tied up the market for it, until iCAST I presume, where everyone will probably introduce their version. But you can't deny the Shroomz and TRD aren't specifically, thus effectively designed for Ned Rigging.....it's a product that works, and MANY people will tell you that. So it's definitely not a ploy But about that Banjo Minnow....anyone killed it with those?

  46. Clayton, if you can go through $60 in plastics in a day, then you need to start using Z-Man baits.
