  2. Please save all snaps until the end. Little kitten, little cat, sitting on my welcome mat, picked him up he started to purr, then I shaved off all his fur. Little mouse little feet, sitting on my toilet seat, pushed him in, flushed him down, watched the mousey spin around. Birdy birdy in the snow, broken wing broken toe, nursed him well with bits of bread, then he pooped upon my head. Here I sit, broken hearted, came to poop but only farted, little later took a chance, went to fart and pooped my pants. Roses are red, violets are blue, sugar is sweet, and I love all of you. Thank you all! You have been a wonderful audience!

  3. Only about 2 hrs ago I hooked in to my biggest bass ever by nearly 2 pounds. It started as a very slow day with periods of showers. 1st bass came after about 2 hours of fishing and was thinking at that time to just call it a day. Well it cleared up just a bit and stayed at it. Got another small bass and then the thunder came and harder showers. The rain stopped again but sky was darkening even worse. I was making my way around the lake, walking the bank btw, I kept telling my self just one more cast just one more cast. I must have had 8-9 just one more casts. Well on the last just one more cast this one hit finally. Was caught with a Curado 50E 12# SniperFC on a Quantum Smoke 7' M/F rod. A 22" #6.21

  4. I got 99 problems, but a frog ain't one. Switch to braid. 20# on MH spinning combo will do. But if you really wanna cross their eyes, a Heavy BC combo with 50# is the going thing. Take pliers and bend your hooks out away from the frog just enough to not be touching it. There is a trailer hook that rides up and loops over both hooks. Hold off for 2 whole seconds before setting the hook after the bass takes the frog down. That bass has a mouth full of air and maybe some frog. If you give him time, he'll exhale the air through the gills and have all frog/water. Cross his eyes then. You'll still miss some but catch more. A 50% rate ain't bad. If you have 2 rods, rig the other with a senko weightless and toss it to the spot the fish missed at. They'll often take a consolation prize. Good luck.

  8. Sensitivity. For short line situations, the difference probably isn't noticeable. When my bait is sitting in 25 FOW with a 100 feet of line out with the wind blowing sideways, I want every advantage I can get to detect the lightest bites. The only reason I put up with the price, questionable knot strength, line memory, stretch, etc etc. Braid has a time and place. For me, it's only around vegetation in short line situations (punching) and topwaters including frogs. YMMV. P.S. I do recall a somewhat funny incident. One afternoon, I was fishing a jerkbait on an 893/ 12# Tatsu. I was missing fish after fish because I was setting the hook too soon (they were not really eating the bait). Tied the bait on another setup that had braid and leader, and landed almost 100% of the bites the rest of the afternoon. Sometimes lower sensitivity can be a good thing!

  11. River2Sea makes great baits with quality finishes and components. The Bubble Walker has been a killer for me this year. If the water ever clears up, I expect the Rovers to continue to produce like they did for a minute before the constant rains started and muddied everything up. Their squarebills are nice, and the Whopper Plopper has somewhat of a cult following around here but I've seen enough fish caught on it to know it works. $12 for a bait with good paint, hooks and split rings I don't have to change? Yeah, I'll probably try a couple.

  12. Give me a freaking break. Lebron was amazing, he just couldn't do it alone. If the Cavs had been healthy, they probably would have won the series. This is year 1 back in Cleveland, I don't think they are done playing for championships.

  13. I also recently got into this topwater frog action. Tried it first with a 6' 6" MH and 14 pound mono. After losing two really nice fish in the muck I did some research. I am throwing into heavy cover and also throwing from the bank which means I have to pull them through some above surface aquatic plants that shield the bank. I ended up getting a Berkely 7' 6" Heavy E-Motion and a H2O Express reel with 50# braid, making sure the reel had an aluminum body because I was told this is a must if you are going to be setting and yanking out the muck with heavy braid. I was told the carbon frames would wear out fast under these conditions. Well, the research paid off well. The action is hot. Can't wait to get out more than an hour doing this. I am also a recent convert to bass fishing and baitcasting. I have been pretty much a western trout fly fisher my whole life. I was even a guide for a few years in Northern NM. I never thought for a minute this bass fishing could be as fun as it is. Definitely love the topwater action action being a fly fisher. And the similarities of choosing flies vs. soft plastics is easily seen. Lovin it!

  14. A bait caster is much better for the job, especially when using hollow body frogs. Although a heavy action rod is recommended, I do get by with a 7' Med Heavy rod since I only have 3 setups (I have 20# PowerPro). Definitely bend the hooks up, or more parallel with the frog body, it'll give you a little more leeway. Also, from my experience, the Booyah Pad Crasher is the frog with the best hookup ratio. I have really started using them this year and at the beginning of the season my hookup ratios were abysmal, but the key I have found is in both the waiting and the hook set. You really have to be patient and zone in on the strike. I am now able to tell if the bite is a bass or a pickerel by the way the bass swallow and the pickerel hit from the side. Once you see that disturbance on top, try your best to wait and see the frog move (Perhaps even count out 1 Mississippi...2 Mississippi) and then I bring my rod from where I was walking it low to the water at my right hip and really use both hands as I make a hard set up above my right shoulder. Really engage your arms and core for a strong hook set after that initial wait. The past few times I've been out my hook up rates have been over 90% and I am ecstatic. This is such a fun way to fish and the strikes are amazing, try those tips and I hope it works for you, good luck! This is exactly what I practice

  15. Well i got around to rigging up my brand new Helix 5 SI unit on the electronics pod on my ATAK. It is all contained in one nice easy to move unit. After doing some research aka messaging Wayne P. on here, I decided it would be best to make sure the transducer does not have any interference from the hull of my boat. It is still pretty protected but i will have to drop it in after launching and pull it out when beaching at the end of the day. I still need to silicone all the holes, used neoprene washers for now, but i wanted to make sure it all works before I finalize the installation. The battery and everything else is contained in the pod unit itself. The bracket is a galvanized corner support bracket used for cabinetry that i had to bend a little bit to make it level because the pod has a slight angle to it. Whoever came up with this pod idea should get a pat on the back because it is super slick and makes removal and installation a breeze. Anyways, looking forward to giving it a test tomorrow hopefully and then if all goes well, silicone all the holes and get it ready for my trip to the Outer Banks next week.

  16. Glad everyone likes the TRDs and Finesse ShroomZ, but sorry to hear that folks are having a hard time getting ahold of them. Like anything new, it sometimes takes distributors and dealers a bit longer to catch onto something new than us fishermen! It can be a bit frustrating for us as a manufacturer too, but it's just part of the deal unfortunately. A lot of the national chains like Cabela's and Bass Pro place orders well in advance, so it can take them a little bit longer to respond when something gets hot. The distributors that service smaller dealers often refuse to stock products in their warehouses until dealers request it and only add new items on an annual basis in the fall or winter. And, most dealers are limited on space and funds sometimes too, so many don't bring in new items until customers are screaming for them and they know they can sell them! We have plenty of TRDs in stock, and if you're having trouble finding them elsewhere, you can always give us a call at (877) 797-242 and order from us directly. If you know any dealers that should be stocking these or are out, feel free to send us their name and contact info so we can send them a catalog, or have them call us directly. We have been a little bit backed up on the Finesse ShroomZ heads recently, but we just shipped large orders to Bass Pro, Cabela's, and Tackle Warehouse last week, and more are on the way. Again, you're welcome to give us a shout to see what we have in stock and when we might have more in. Thanks for the interest in the Ned Rig system, and nice to see that people are realizing the benefits of the TRD and how different these baits are! Please give us a shout if there's anything we can do for you!

  18. In no particular order. Wacky worm, Yamamoto 4" watermelon w/red and black flakes on a Jackall 1/8 ounce jig head. I prefer the Gamakatsu wacky jig head because it slips through vegetation much better, but the head is lead. Shaky head. Vike 3/16th ounce jig head with a 4/0 hook with a Strike King Super Finesse worm, peanut butter and jelly or coppertreuse. The SK worm is elaztech so you'll need to use a safety pin heated over a candle to melt a hole in the center of the head along the center line to about 1" deep. You'll also need to close the top coil on the bait holder into a loop so you can slide/twist/thread the bait over the coil. Use a drop of Loctite Super Glue to button the head of the worm onto the coil and jig head. You can rig it weedless hiding the point of the hook in the bait, or run the hook through the worm so that the bait will hang straight with the point exposed. I prefer the latter. Other good baits are the Rage Tail Menace in pumpkin with purple and gold flakes and black with red flakes, Fat Albert in watermelon with red (and black) flake or black with red flakes, You can also use plastic swim baits such as the Keitech Swing Impact Fat or the Lunker City swimming ribster or LC's grubster, all rigged as shown in the image below. Be sure to "burp" the glue bottle after using. If you don't it may form a membrane across the opening. Hold it upright, and squeeze the bottle two or three times until it stops forming bubbles. The hook pictured above is the Jackall. I prefer using the Keitech 1/8th ounce tungsten super round 2/0 jig heads. Run the point of the hook along the centerline of the bait until it gets to the end of the bend (or the straight part of the shank) and exit the point at the top center of the body of your bait. Put a drop of glue between the nose of your bait and the jig head. Most of the time the bait will pass cleanly through vegetation. When you feel it "snag" the plant just pull slowly, gradually increasing the pressure. If you try to rip it free it's more apt to snag. As soon as it comes free, give it some slack to allow it to drop. If you feel resistance when you pick up the slack keep tension on the line, and feel for life on the end of the line. It could be slight tug or head shake. As soon as you feel life, set the hook.

  23. Wyco was HOT this morning !!! fished from 7:30 to 11:00 and caught 35-40 bass. Most Wyco average size of 12 to 14 but did have 5 keeper LM. Smallmouth were hammering pop-Rs and LM hungered for the Ned. Lots of fish had the 17 year bugs in their craw.

  24. Yawn, even if it were the rate of one instance per week of it, it would have no bearing on whether I fish tournaments. It's such a non issue that guys that don't fish competitively make a huge deal out of.

  25. Let me add just a general statement. I know it's a PITA when you have troubles with your boat motor. You want to be fishing and not trying to figure out what is next. I would guess that your motor sat for a while before you purchased it and there are a few kinks that need to be worked out. I got my boat late in July of last year and it took me several months to get it running to my satisfaction. I did some of the work and I had two certified Mercury guys look at it. In the end, I solved the problem through sheer determination which turned out to be a combination of several things but the main one being a simple repair that the mechanics that looked at it should have diagnosed it with ease. The problem is that the motor didn't always act up, only when I used it hard. But this isn't a matter of misery loves company. Once you work through all the little bugs in your motor you will soon forget these little setbacks and get to the fishing. So hang in there.

  29. I'd go with 12 lb fluoro on the bait casters and 8 lb mono or 20 lb braid on the spinning. You could go with 8 lb fluoro on it too, if you use something made for spinning reels such as Berkley 100% Fluoro XL, but braid and mono will still handle just a tad better.

I can almost guarantee he didn't catch them on a Ned rig and not anywhere very close to the dam if you go WAY back and read some of his past Melvern reports. I'm guessing the 17 year reference was meaning that they were eatinG cicadas and probably topwater too.

  42. Welcome to life. It hits you pretty hard when you're 17 or 18 and have never worked but suddenly, you're expected to. Sadly, I put a great deal of that blame on mom and dad for not encouraging you to get a job before you graduated. You say: LOL, yeah, they are. Last time I checked, "relaxing and chilling" is the textbook beginnings of full on laziness. If you're not out there, working to get better, you're getting passed by the people who are.

  49. I don't own any sinking line, but love to throw heavy streamers on floating line. If fish are deeper than 10' I'll break out the casting/spinning gear. Fly fishing is a lot of fun but like everythingthatswims said, there is a time and place for all techniques.. my main objective is to actually catch the fish.
    1 point
  50. I definitely would use fly gear if it put me at an advantage (and there are times when it is advantageous). I just get tired of seeing guys around here who trout fish most of the time and think anything other than fly fishing is a sin. In summer so they target smallies---they like when the fish will eat on top but most of the time they are dragging stuff on sinking lines, and to me that just feels like pulling a rope through the water. I love to fly fish but I don't limit myself to it...We had a 17yr cicada hatch two years ago and it was epic, I tied up some cicada patterns and went to work on every species imaginable for those three weeks of fury.
