  4. I was curious if other states have a master angler award program or something similar. Here in the cornhusker state you can receive a certificate/award for reaching a length or a certain weight for each species, for largemouths that is a bass 20 inches or longer or 5lbs and over. Our bass dont get huge here,i think our state record is 11lbs 4oz but could be a few more ounces. I consider a 5 a really good fish, 6-8 a hog and anything over 8 a giant. But in all honesty if you catch a 5plus in any body of water besides a farm pond/private lake you have a really nice bass, for 95% of people anyways... on a side note ive always wondered why the further south you go the bigger bass get when they only live about half as long as they do in the north, i know the growing seasons longer on top of other factors for southern bass and a zillion other reasons but i would think they would get as big as their southern cousins but just take longer to grow to that size....

  5. It amazes me how we, as humans, attach our feelings and reactions to different circumstances to the animal world. It also amazes me how minority groups can sway the opinions of the uninformed. The brain of a fish doesn't contain a section governing emotions, it has none. The above water environment contains more oxygen than a fish's watery one, but to the uneducated, their argument makes sense. WE MUST BAND TOGETHER and voice the truth about catch and release to the uninformed multitudes before these half brained morons turn them into puppets for their cause...................Too over the top?

  6. I like this one: "Imagine that you’re a fish, darting around your watery home and finding tasty snacks to enjoy. Now, imagine that you bite into one of those snacks and suddenly feel searing pain as a sharp hook rips through your mouth." I wonder how those "tasty snacks" feel as they're being eaten by the fish.

  7. Finally finished rigging my yak. I Installed a Yak-Gear anchor trolley, I have the Yak-Gear anchor kit, Yak-Gear 6ft Mud Stick, and built my own crate w/ rod holders using pvc. Came out pretty good if I say so myself

  9. The weight isn't an issue, it is the balance and managing soothing that is 14' long. Your hands being a few inches one way or another makes a huge difference. And on a SIde note, I went to go pick up some pieces to mount my transducer on my new kayak and they didn't have them in stock. So i decided to go ahead and get an upgraded unit that will hopefully make catching a little more SImple. Hopefully i can get it mounted and tested out this week....pics will be soon to follow

  12. We went out for a little afternoon fishing fun and, on a whim, my dad tied on a 3/8 jig and started tossing it. Never having really fished them, I noticed he was throwing it without a trailer. I told him to tear the nose off that beat-up pit boss he just discarded and thread that sucker on, that he'd have better luck fishing it that way. And I was right! It inspired me to tie one on and I got in some good jig'n experience as well. We both caught a good number on jigs that day. Judging from his elation, I have a feeling he'll have one tied on from now on. His fish is the biggest I've seen in a while, measuring 21" and weighing 4 lbs. 5 oz. Huge fish for that lake, where dinks are the norm. Honestly, we didn't think they grew that big there. This is the first summer we've been able to fish with electronics, and we were able to locate a decent 15 foot step between drop-offs at 8 and then down to the bottom at 22 or so. I had a feeling a fish would be hugging it - dad just got to him first. I'm real happy for him, though - now I don't have to feel so bad for outfishing him all the time.

  13. Yesterday I was fishing a lake with a lot of vegetation growing in it. So I am throwing a 1/4 ounce Mann's 1 minus, and working it around the weed lines. I cast out maybe 50 or 60 feet and I feel a thump like a bite, but I have nothing pulling on the other end, so I am thinking that I hit the top of some plant. I get the crankbait where I can see it, and there is a bass about 8" long on the back hook. The crankbait was wobbling just like there was nothing on it, and the little bass was getting whipped back and forth by the motion of the lure. The whole thing looked like a big swimbait.

  14. I just wanted to say that Berkley Vanish Flurocarbon is pretty much one of the worst products ever made, period. I forgot how bad it was till i had to use it out of necessity a week ago. never had so many random line breakages ever. POS. I know that there are only about 3 manufacturers of flurocarbon out there, so who makes this crap?

  16. That's what I thought the culprit was...but sometimes it is 3 to 4 guides which spans 18-20 inches in length. Wait... you don't think I have Bigfoot sleeping in my boat in the garage at night do you? Could also be why all my Jack Links are gone too ~

  20. Man you sure are buying some nice technique specific gear for not even knowing the difference between a Shakeyhead and a T-Rig. Bass Resource has another section that has a ton of articles and a bunch of videos that could really help you out if you will take the time to read and watch.

  24. I miss michigan so much. Im from the north. But ive been stationed and tdy all over the states and fished a few of the best bass lakes in the country. And still have yet to find somewhere where u can catch 3-5lb smallies and largemouth in just about every body of water. And hardly any bass pressure. To be fair though michigan has been voted number 1 abd 2 on bassmaster top 100 bass lakes. With lots of lakes down the list to.

  25. Closest thing to that here in Indiana is a "Fish of the Year" award for the longest (length) fish of every species submitted to the program over the course of the year. Last year I won for hybrid striped bass and buffalo. -T9

  26. Your idea is right, but holding onto an Olympic bar verse a bulky/awkward kayak makes it a bit more difficult. Then factor in windows, paint, dents. I already cracked a taillight on my Subaru because the wind gusted as I was lifting and I had to ditch the kayak. $150 slip up happened in a few seconds. Luckily all my rods were far enough away that none got broke. I might of cried then.

  27. I fish them both ways, but prefer wacky most of the time. The biggest fish I have caught on wacky was a 6-10, the biggest I have caught on a Texas rigged stick was 6-10......go figure.

  32. Back from Great East, caught about 20 LM most were 1-3.5 pounds with a couple exceeding 4 Lb. Most of the fish were caught right next to the shore on soft plastics, Rage Menace in Blue Gill and hawg craw tail in green pumpkin accounted for a lot of the fish. I spent way to much time fishing with jigs to only catch 1 fish on them, I must be doing something wrong! Enjoy the weekend!

  33. Fishing the lake right by my house this morning with a buddy from work who has been doing well out there. I hate the lake, 5 minutes from the house and I fish it 2 or 3 times a year. Did surprisingly well this morning, mainly on topwater and baby brush hog. Got to one little cut he said a local told him holds big fish. I'd barely gotten "Weird, I never catch anything here", out of my mouth when my bladed jig went weightless. Typical big fish bite on a bladed jig, turned into a very not typical fish for that lake. 4 pounds on the nose and my PB for the lake.

  38. I hear ya Jakob. Usually when I hear the term marketing ploy, it's referring to a marketing scheme to get you to buy a product that doesn't work as well as it's hyped up to. But that Shroomz/TRD setup is just stupid effective. Any bait company is going to ride that term as long as they can to sell as much product as possible.
    1 point
  39. I'm not denying that it catches fish... But the Shroomz TRD is marketing hype. "Have you tried the need rig?" Is on every ZMan package I see in my local shops. It can be any standing open hook jig head with any small floating worm is my point. And Midwest finesse is a lot deeper than that.

  40. It's a marketing ploy until you've tried it. My buddy and I went out 2 Sundays ago and caught 148 bass in 7 hrs. That's a bass in the boat every 2.8 minutes....for 7 hrs straight.

  45. I've caught my biggest bass on wacky rigs in the reservoirs I fish. Have had plenty of success on the TRig, and caught plenty of big bass on it, but wacky has been more productive for me. It is odd how that plays out.
