  2. Did another quick trip straight from work. Boated around 30ish smallies with the biggest at around 4. I had eight fish on eight consecutive casts. I didn't get pics of all of them but this is what I got.

  3. The champion isn't the flagship model. I think saying that saying Dobyns is the benchmark that bass rods are judged aginst is open to debate. ..

  4. VLOGs on that site that must not be named. Might pick up a new trick or two from one of the OGs. Kinda talks about chatterbaits and A-rigs a little, but definitely a few good points here and there. Also, check out the 2 Clear Lake episodes on Stoked on Fishing with Newman and Paul Bailey.

  5. In my opinion, cranking rods and spinner bait rods are two different animals. There is some overlap. If you're fishing from the bank, you're probably not throwing deeper divers. Me, I'd get a rod that I really liked for throwing spinner baits and "make do" when I decided to throw cranks, not the other way round.

  6. Had a jerkbait rod to get out. Finally got back to the spybait build. Here's the one that put the spybait on the back burner.

  7. Nope, them weeds don't stop me from fishing. They do stop me from fishing certain lures; but that's fine. Techniques matter more than the particular lure being used, and there are always workarounds.

  8. I prefer 7lb Sniper. Used it a while ago and just liked it enough I've never wanted to switch. Have a buddy who uses the invizx a lot and has a lot of weird break offs... still uses it haha which I don't know why but I'm a big fan of Sniper. I've caught largemouth up to 11lbs on it, and spots up to 6.8, as well as a 15lb largemouth caught on my boat with it. I believe it is thinner than the invisx in 6lb if I remember correctly.

  9. Owner hooks & Gamakatsu hooks are the best in the world.. Every owner I have ever used has been a solid design, most all Gammys are as well, ( most ) Trokar is hit or miss.. I've used them a little bit, they are not on my list of a solid selection. That is my opinion only..

  10. primetime, you will be amazed at the colors offered by Bill Lewis! Most people look a lure colors on sites like tacklewarehoure or bass pro shops which may show a dozen colors of traps or Norman. Goto their web sites it will be an eye opener!

  11. Met a guy today with a brand new beautiful red 18' Skeeter with 150 Yamaha. Somebody won it and this guy bought it for $23,000, never been in the water. What a steal! I recently priced an aluminum Bass Tracker with 115hp Merc and it was $28,000, and this guy's Skeeter had two higher end fish finders. That buy reminds of my 2008 Nissan Titan truck, which I bought brand new when they had too many pickup trucks nationwide. I stole that sucker for $18,500, the sticker was $30,500; I still have it.

  12. Headed out to the river in Buckeye Arizona. Been on an awesome froggin bite for awhile now.Monday was epic. First go on a point that had schooling bass and all i had for topwater tied on was a spro poppin frog in nasty shad color. Threw it out there and bam 3lber. Caught a bunch of small fish on the frog out on the point then proceeded to the backwaters. Was catching all the fish either throwing back in the cattails or skipping way up under the overhanging brush. Caught 30 total. Should have caught around 50. And should have gave up our smallest of 2.77lbs a few times. But we lost some good ones at the boat a few times. Could have brought in 20lbs but oh well we didnt. I don't think my scale is right. but until i calibrate it these 5 weight 17.28lbs.

  13. If it were me, I would get the new Curado over the other two based on looks and ergonomics and I am assuming that the new Curado is going to be a great caster. If you were talking about the Calais CL-100A or the Curado 50E then that would be different. I am assuming that you are talking about the Curado 200E.

  14. I did the same thing last time I went fishin I had only cuaght 1 bass on a shaky head and it was super slow with no other hookups so I threw the bass rods in the car and only took my ultra light down to the lake with a can o worms...first cast I imedeatly catch a decent bass!

  15. Went to Beltzville on Saturday and absolutely killed it. My best 5 fish were just under 15 lbs. Caught everything on a black and red jig with a rage craw trailer. It seemed like every fish I set the hook on was 2.5 lbs. I love days like that. Had one really nice smallmouth as well. Unfortunately I did not have my GoPro camera for this trip so there is no video Attached some pics below!

  20. Maybe you jest here. I'd fish it and enjoy every minute. I've fished hard hit public areas and loved every minute of it, but I have also been on private stocked ponds and the thought and work by the owners with intelligent management is a Basser's paradise. Promise. No guilt on my part.

  25. Does anyone else think it would lead to a person's credibility that they include along with their Patriot's whine a statement of what team they support? Inflate your own balls for once and go out on a limb by telling us how your team has never cheated. At this point, these threads are sounding like a nonpolitical version of Faux News! FYI - I think they all cheat, including all of your favorites.

  26. Multiple threads here detailing exactly what you're asking. Hudds will work for both large and smallmouth in the right situations/locations. 10Lb+ largies ya say? 7lb smallies too? Must be nice....

  27. You are assuming the OP is using a baitcasting reel, he hasn't clarified what his outfit is except a "light outfit", whatever that means? Square bills are not high water resistant lures and neither are jerk baits or lipless crankbait. Deep diving 3/4-1 oz crankbaits are high resistant lures to crank all day and big swimbaits can wear you down. It's all about the right tackle and your physical condition. Tom

  29. I don't blame you for switching over to the UL and looking for other fish. I'll do that as well if I feel like it's really going to be quiet as I know the sunfish will always bite. At least you found another method for connecting with the bass though! I actually just recently bought a couple of beetle spins and looks like I need to give it a shot as I keep hearing great things about it. I will say this though; the longer you go without catching a good fish, the sweeter it feels when you finally do get one. I often go 4-5+ hours with nothing to show for it as I usually stick to the method that I like fishing best. Someone else might catch more fish in the same area using a different technique but when I finally get one man does it feel good.

  30. Had an AWESOME day. With how clear that lake is, the one thing it is good for is spawn fishing. I recorded everything and I will post a video here when it is done! I ended up using a combination of a 1/2 ounce jig and a drop shot on a casting setup. The jig would get them angry but they wouldn't eat it and then the drop shot caught every fish but one. I've been using this setup for years and it is awesome! Long before Chris Zaldain made it a big deal by catching a 12 pounder, haha. I had a Caffeine Shad on there; Texas rigged.

  34. I know you're not naive enough to believe that statement. It's the fishing industry. Of course it will be marketed regardless.

  35. The most active bass are on the outside edges looking for prey, the bass inside the middle of cover are usually less agressive. The brighter the sunlight is, the deeper into cover the bass tends to get, however those are still the less active bass and harder to catch. Fish the edges first for active bass, then go deeper into cover for those less active bass. Tom

  36. There are a couple of difference scenarios to consider when discussing how bass relate to that type of cover and how an angler may approach fishing it. Clearly we've all seen times when the bass are buried right up in the heart of the tree. Sunny blue bird skies is one time that comes to mind. This often requires a concerted almost surgical approach, probing every nook & cranny with the bait. Often one needs to get the presentation right in Old Mrs. Big's face to get bit. Another scenario occurs sometimes during less sunny, partly cloudy and even overcast days (and a lot at night). Bass may not be right up in the middle of the mess. They might be some distance from it - relating much more loosely to it rather than being in it. Depending on the proximity of a decent depth change or even some other cover that's a little deeper, I'm often surprised how many fish can be taken by fishing "around" the area First. So I'll say until you've determined where the fish you're looking for are at, start outside first and work your way in. But just as you'll work that tree hard to get bit, first allow the "perimeter" to produce by giving it the same level of attention. You may be surprised I think a lot of anglers are missing some decent fish by passing this water up in haste to "Go Flip That Tree" Just because that's what everybody does, doesn't mean it's the best approach. 38. Get yourself an anchor & 25' of rope! Drop the anchor, fish 360° around the boat, pull up the anchor, drift the lenght of a cast, drop anchor, fish 360° around the boat...repeat!

  39. I will keep my trolling motor in the water and do sort of a "controlled drift" a lot if the wind is bad and I just don't feel like fighting it.

  41. If you're keeping fish for the table, don't let them swim around in a livewell. Stressed fish = poor table fare. As soon as you land fish, bleed them out into a bucket of water (cut the gill, but not too deep; heart needs to pump out the blood), ice them down, fillet when you get home.

  42. You use the bobber stopper to peg your weight against your bait so. It stays as one piece so to speak. It prevents the bait from going on one side of a branch and the weight on the other. It allows the bait to punch through. Makes a flipping bait more like a jig.

  43. If fishing is slow, why complain about the fight that fish has given you. Unless you plan on keeping that carp you gaff, then it wouldn't be a good idea. I don't believe in just killing a fish just because it happens to be the wrong kind, ugly, or some think it's useless, not to mention if you buy a commercial gaff, odds are it's not gonna be as good as you would like. Having made many a gaff while working on sportfishing boats in S.Cal, those gaffs are crap, the hook is normally too big, and depending on your state fishing regulations, IE, Cal, it's illegal to gaff ANY freshwater fish. Get a net and release your opponent safely and be thankful for the fight it gave you. It maybe annoying when you hook them, but it's still fun to pull on something that pulls so hard without giving up.
