  9. I saw on the Southern NH thread that you're moving back up to NH, whenever you do, I have a big old bucket of soft plastics that you're welcome to pick through and take what you'd like. And I probably have some other stuff too, I'll check when I get home. Just shoot me a PM.

  11. I prefer to use backing for all but about 75 yards of braid. All you need to fix your problem is a few layers or a strip of tape. Just something to give some bite for the braid.

  12. I've been contemplating getting a Float Coat for early and late season fishing. When I fish late season, I'm normally wearing Carhart bibs, Carhart jacket, and boots. If I ever fell in, I'm going straight to the bottom. Do not pass go, do not collect $200

  14. Here you go J ~ HYPOTHERMIA IN WATERLoss of body heat to the water, is a major cause of deaths in boating accidents. Often the cause of death is listed as drowning; but, often the primary cause is hypothermia. It should also be noted that alcohol lowers the body temperature around two to three degrees by dilating the blood vessels. Do not drink alcohol around cold water. The following chart shows the effects of hypothermia in water: WATER TEMPERATURE / EXHAUSTION / SURVIVAL TIME 32.5 degrees............................Under 15 min........Under 15 TO 45 min. 32.5 to 40................................15 to 30 min.........30 to 90 min. 40 to 50...................................30 to 60 min.........1 to 3 hrs. 50 to 60...................................1 to 2 hrs..............1 to 6 hrs. 60 to 70...................................2 to 7 hrs..............2 to 40 hrs. 70 to 80...................................3 to 12 hrs............3 hrs. to indefinite Over 80...................................Indefinite...............Indefinite PFD's (personal flotation devices / better known as life jackets) can increase survival time because of the insulating value they provide. In water less than 50 degrees you should wear a wet suit or dry suit to protect more of the body. SOME POINTS TO REMEMBER: While in the water, do not attempt to swim unless to reach nearby safety. Unnecessary swimming increases the rate of body heat loss. Keep your head out of the water. This will increase your survival time. Keep a positive attitude about your rescue. This will increase your chances of survival. If there is more than one person in the water, huddling is recommended. Always wear your PFD. It won't help if you don't have it on. A-Jay

  16. The lews tournament ask is a gander Mt specific version of the standard tournament. The reel comes with 2 types of brakes and a spool tension knob. The two types of brakes are centrifugal and magnetic. The dial on the NON-handle side controls the magnetic brakes and it should be labeled 1-10 or low- high. The magnets act on the rotation of the spool and create a magnetic field and slow the spool throughout the entire cast. The second brakes are centrifugal and are adjusted by removing the NON-handle side cover. This is done by a long thumb screw on the handle side just above the handle.on the inside there are 4 spring loaded arms each one controls a brake shoe. When the spool is rotating at high speed they are forced out and contact a race and the friction slows the spool. When the speed of the spool lessens enough that the force of rotation isnt enough to force the brake shoes to contact the race then they are no longer having any effect on the spool. I would start with 2 brakes on and 2 off. And set the dial to 6 and work your way back from there.

  20. Think it has to do with more with normally East Winds are associated with hi pressure (not all the time) and West winds are associated with dropping pressure. Normally once a front passes the fish seem to suspend, hold up, and not bite as well as they did prior to the front passing. That's my take on the whole "East bite least/ West bite best". Of course this doesn't always apply due to different weather systems and conditions.

  23. Yeah, that is a tough lesson learned. Now you know to be careful who you share what with. I share waters and info depending on how sensitive the spot is and how well I know and respect the person. It's worthwhile getting to know the anglers that share your waters. If you can come to an understanding -you'll often know which ones (they aren't "starry eyed")- sharing info can pay off in the return.

  24. I have one Curado I that if I back with braid straight to the spool, it slips and the drag does not work. I have never had that problem on any of my other reels but with this one Curado it does it. I just stripped the braid, put electrical tape around the spool and put the braid back on and now it's perfect. Haven't had a problem since. So if you are using braid with no backing then that is more than likely the problem.

  29. That last bit, and fishing coldish water (50s) water are when you'll want one. Otherwise, when the big motor is running, all a PFD is good for on my eyes is to have a body to bury. I wear mine 90% of the time anyway, though, it's a light auto inflate. How's that saying go A-jay? 50% chance of living after being submerged in 50 deg water for 50 minutes.

  30. I lost a good friend a couple of years ago when he fell from his boat while fishing. No PFD. I nearly drowned when I fell off a friends boat in cold water. No PFD. I am a good swimmer. My friend was a great swimmer and in great shape. When fishing alone or in cold water if you are not wearing some sort of PFD you are gambling with your life. Any time you are running at speed, same thing. Some of us get lucky, others don't. I wear an inflatable belt-always unless I am wearing something better.

  32. The whole concept of a finely adjustable centrifugal brake doesn't really make me stand up and take notice. It's change for change's sake. Adding a magnetic component makes more sense in my opinion, but I can take or leave dual braking too. Anyway, the number of brake shoes activated is the most noticeable adjustment just like previous models.

  35. If you factor in JUST the new vehicle I bought this January for the sole purpose of towing my boat, each fish I've caught so far this year would be about 5 thousand dollars. Pretty darn expensive sushi-except I threw them all back.

  36. Just had one of those days Monday. Went and fished one of the power plant lakes that is a lake that's well known for it's big fish potential. It's also known for being extremely difficult and has been especially so this winter. I hadn't caught maybe 15 fish out there all winter so I wasn't super excited to fish it. Despite that, after the first 30 minutes I already had 8 fish in the boat and had my hopes up. Got to one of my favorite stretches of bank and was tossing a Dep's 175 Slide Swimmer when it got hammered. Fish had it crossways in her mouth and I was sure it was mine. Right next to the boat she jumped and tossed it! Would have been my biggest swimbait fish for sure. I jumped around the lake, kept catching fish pretty steady. The wind kept me from fishing one area I really wanted to fish so I went back to where I lost the big one. I switched to a KVD 8.0 which I bought just for this lake. Got back to exactly where I lost the big one, which is kind of a rock slide that's slide all the way out to a small drop off. Bounce that big bait off a few rocks and it got stopped. The fish jumped once, another big one but I could see the bait had one hook in her top lip. I had a bad feeling after I saw that and it came to be when she jumped at the boat and liberated herself of my bait, another big one gone. At the end of the day I was back to another of my favorite spots that had been really productive earlier and cranking a 1.5 squarebill when I finally managed to hook and land a good fish. My biggest one of the day went 5lbs 6ozs, my biggest so far this season, but it should have been so much better.

  40. My post is a little misleading. I don't necessisarily want to fish tournaments, I just want a partner who knows something about Bass fishing techniques ie. flippin, pitchin etc. I have done well in Ohio Bass club tourney fishin ( made it to the State championship twice in 3 years ) so I have knowlege about fishin tourneys, I just don't wnat to shell out the $ for a tourney in Florida untill I figure out how to fish here, it's way different than in Ohio.

  43. That's a very cool thing for you to do for somebody. Sorry I cant fish with you but: A: I already have a boat. B: Florida's a long ways away. I have a friend I fish with quite often who doesn't have a boat. He's just as passionate as I am, if not more so. He's always thankful when I take him out, and I always remind him how much I appreciate having a friend that can hang that long on the water. Most people get bored if they're not catching a fish every 5 minutes.

  44. That's a great offer. Believe me, that doesn't happen in my neck of the woods unless you have a resume and try out's first. Seriously! LOL... It's like some elite club and if you ain't in, you ain't getting in. Hope you find a good person to fish with that you can enjoy fishing with, win or not. Have fun and enjoy the boat.
