  1. Aiden Savant, 8 yrs old & in his second year of fishing. He caught it skipping a swim jig under a boat dock...the dock he was standing on! Because of a couple drops of blood I didn't take the time to measure or weigh it.

  3. This concept also needs to be taken with a grain of salt relative to the body of water you are fishing. If the topography and orientation of your lake is west to east in orientation, then you need to adjust. If the NW portion of your lake is also where the dam is or the deepest part of the lake, then the logic may not apply. I've always keyed in on protected shallow areas relative to your lake's characteristics. Where I live in central VA, the winds are predominantly west to east. As you approach the coastal areas, that wind influence varies more and is highly inconsistent throughout the course of a given day. In my opinion, your best bet is to find shallow coves with deeper main lake access (ie: channels that provide escape routes but also food highways) and then pay attention to the winds over time. Best way I know how to do that is Google Earth, Navionics webapp when you can't get out on the water, then followed up with on the water time during non-peak windows (ie: winter, mid week, during rain, basically when others aren't around). That's just my .02 worth which won't get you far in this economy

  5. Someone post data on how much Big Game stretches verses FC, copolymer and mono of equal diameter. You find there isn't a significant difference, maybe 5% between all those line types. You have been brain washed by marketing! Tom

  6. I don't like spinner baits. Can't seem to catch a fish on them. I'm not blaming it on the bait though I guess the spinner bait is my lure I need to take out and leave everything else home

  7. I heard this story years ago and this topic made me think of it so I will share: It seems there was an extreme hard freeze that gripped the south for several weeks and all the lakes in the deep south were frozen over. Some northern fishermen decided they would go south for some ice fishing as they were sure no one in the south would be able to catch any fish because of lack of experience. They took all of their ice fishing gear and headed south. After spending several hours on the southern lakes fishing, they hadn't even got a bite, but they kept on trying. After many hours of fishing with no results, they saw a little boy come out onto the ice, chop a small hole in the ice, drop in a string, and immediately began catching one bass after another. They just couldn't believe what the were seeing, so they went to where he was fishing and asked him why they hadn't been able to catch a thing and he was catching one after another. The boy replied " doumn sofuth ye gout kiop wuroms wm, They couldn't understand what he said so they asked again and got the same reply. After a couple more tries, the boy cupped his hand and spit out a big "gob" of worms and said, down south you have to keep your worms warm.

  10. Have you ever tried pulling the hook out of the top of the bait, just enough so that it is running parralel to it, and then sticking the very point of the hook back in? I've found my catch rate goes up when I do this. It does, ocassionally, come out and cause a snag, but very infrequently.

  13. lol at stretch being over-exaggerated in this thread too. you will be fine using big game, the hook will set just fine. sure it has stretch, but its nothing like a rubberband, not even close, people need to quit spreading fallacies...

  15. The weather has not been too cooperative this week which sucks since it is my spring break. I made up my mind that i was going to go out today no matter what the weather had in store for me. It was overcast all day long and drizzling with temps never getting above about 50 or so. Anyways, ended up catching about 12 total with about half being pickerel including one that was citation sized but the prize of the day was this beauty She measured just over 22" so i have my first citation LM and pickerel of the year. I should have gotten a girth measurement so i could guesstimate the weight but it's all good.... I will definitely be heading back to this place again.

  17. So there have been a couple people who have been talking about bank setups and how they store their tackle recently and I wanted to share my bank setup and a little break down of it all. I have seen on this forum that there are quite a few bank fishers and I think this thread could have some quite useful info for people. Tackle First, is all my tackle in their plano's. I have 1 Deep 3700 for all my plastic craws and it seems like it will work very well for this upcoming season. I also have 3 3700 slim boxes and 1 3500 box. I have a box for my crankbaits which includes wigglewarts as my medium divers, squarebills diving 2'-4', a few lipless crankbaits and a jerkbait. Next 3700 is my worm box with 10" Ribbontails, some yamamoto senkos and some finesse worms My last 3700 is my terminal/Jig box and it has hooks, jigs, weights, chatterbaits, etc and I plan on filling the remaining spots with Nu-Tech jigs this summer. Last box I have is a 3500 box filled with BPS tubes. It is the bargain tube kit from BPS which is $10 and is a very good deal. If you're wondering where my topwater lures are I keep them in my tackle box as I don't have a lot of topwater stuff. Some buzzbaits, a frog and a few poppers are kept in here with extra line, pliers, stringer, trout lures and spoons and some Mepps spinners. Basically all the miscellaneous stuff you bring fishing is in here. In the black bag is a few packs of grubs and 2 packs of flukes I may throw in my pack if I feel they are necessary. All my stuff fits into a small Under Armour backpack I have laying around the house. The good thing about it is that it is quite a small backpack and I can fit all my utility boxes in it no problem, so any normal sized bag would have room to spare for all of my gear if I feel I need more space. It is also lighter than I expected and I could easily carry it for miles. RODS The rods I have are: - 6'6 M/Moderate Ugly Stick with Pro Qualifier BPS reel (2 Piece) - 6'9 MH/ Moderate-Fast Okuma TCS Rod with Lew's BB1 Reel 5.1:1(This is my All purpose cranking/ spinnerbait rod) (1 Piece Rod) - 6'9 MH/ XF Veritas with Revo SX reel 6.4:1 (This is a rod I can use for many applications) (2 Piece Rod, makes it feel more like a fast action) The reason I picked smaller rods is because I am fishing from the bank I didn't want a long 7'+ rod getting in the way of my casting around trees and bushes etc. When picking my rods I also assumed I would be fishing out of a kayak at times so I did not always opt for a 2 piece. My 2 main rods are 2 pieces for a few reasons, ease of transportation and the veritas was an XF, I wanted a F action but they were sold out and I found the 2 piece to have a bit slower of a taper than a 1 piece Veritas. The TCS I found to be a good all around rod for cranking and treble baits and I wanted to try a 1 piece rod so I chose a smaller size for when it comes to the bank and travelling with it. The Ugly Stik I bought last year when I was getting into Fishing and I wanted a dependable durable rod that I can throw basically any lure on. Im now planning on using it for dropshotting. I plan on only bringing 2 rods with me when I go to make carrying them easier but at times will bring 3.

  19. Well you did catch a new PB & you did weigh it. Congratulations. Some might not believe you without photo proof but who cares. I believe you and I am sure most others do as well. You will just have to catch a bigger one & get a picture with it.

  21. WTG on a New PB ! PB's are Always a Blast. I know & understand that you're bummed about not getting a picture but think about it this way. If I told you before you left that you were going to catch such a huge bass but you weren't going to get a picture of it, would you still go ? I certainly would. Congrats Again A-Jay

  24. 25. I moved to the DC area about five years ago. I love a LOT of things about this area, but one thing that gives me endless amusement is how every Skins fan's best season is from February until the end of September. Go Pack! Re-signed Randall Cobb, Bryan Bulaga, Letroy Guion, B.J. Raji I'm ecstatic!

  27. The best part if bass fishing is we can personalize to fit us & what we feel best suits us! I've use 15# Big Game on my Texas Rigs & have for 30+ years. I've boated 27 bass over 10 lbs & every single one was on Big Game. I am 100% confident I've never missed or lost a bass because of Big Game...operator error yelp. If y`all like braid, fluoro, co-poly or what ever good for y'all!

  28. Some cannot discern opinion from fact. Many opinions are developed from limited personal experience. Also, I can find all sorts of fault in "facts" simply because that fact is only a small facet of a much larger equation. But I digress, opine away!

Crazy huh.. Still the wife let's me fish when I want to.. Good stuff. . Die hard Bills fan but they can wait. Been a long crazy winter where we even saw 7 feet of snow here in a couple days...I am ready to fish.. Lake Erie is still frozen but the ponds I fish around the house are all ice free... Time to break out the booyah jig and the plastics..

  32. Had a great time throwing lipless cranks this evening! This 15" bass didn't seem to know how big he was... I also caught this really cool tilapia on a grub. I was so surprised because the tilapia never eat lures. New video will be coming tomorrow, stay tuned!

  33. There is a thread a few pages back where a poster tested multiple lines. Flourocarbon stretched the most on average. Trilene XT the least of all. (Not all brands/models were tested) There is also another blog if you search google for line stretch with similar results (not TT). If you think stretch is not a factor then you haven't fished braid. Sometimes you need stretch sometimes you dont.

  42. I appear to be in the minority here. I use straight fluoro for plastics. I dont have a problem seeing the line. I use braid with a leader for jigs.

  43. 50lb is very manageable. The only way you can birdnest that line pretty bad is if you have never handled a baitcaster before or if you had some kind of casting accident. Other than that, 50 lb braid will not dig into itself as bad as let's say anything under 30lb braid.
