  3. Hey everybody. I'm from New York and this is my first time using the site. I not only love to fish for largemouth but I love to fish for any species I can get my hands on. I love the outdoors and I figured that being a part of Bass Resource would enhance my experience. I love to share my successes and tips with everyone and I would love to enjoy all of your successes and tips. I also have friends on the site and I saw how much they liked it. I figured I might check it out.

  4. Went out on a guided trip into the Everglades today and seriously fished a jig for the first time. I had zero confidence in one. I caught over 30 bass on one today both pitching and making long casts with it;Including one that I lost that was easily over 7 and would have been a new pb, but he came off just as the guide reached for the net. It has become a new confidence bait now that I dialed in what the bites feel like. That thump is addicting. Time to visit TW again...

  5. Didn't get a pic, but I caught my first jerkbait bass today! It wasn't a Megabass Vision, but it's a start. Ironically, it was a value series Rebel Minnow I picked up for 1.50. Caught the bass sight fishing. He grabbed at it like 4 times before he got hooked.

  7. The cobra and arky are almost exactly the same. The only main difference is the angles on the front of the head instead of being round like the arky. If your wanting to stick with the cobra I'll build them for you. PM me all the info.

  15. I get a call from a buddy about going up to Georgia for two days of fishing our most favorite pond. I jump on the chance because I have fished there before & know the potential for a new PB is looming. Besides it means fishing on my birthday a tradition I always try to maintain. We had a 6.5 hour drive to get there and didn't arrive until about 5:30 pm. We headed down to the back pond about 7 acres in size. Justin spread out to the right casting as he went. We all spread out as we started fishing. On Justin's fifth cast with a white spinnerbait he got bit. He yelled out I got a good one. Little did he know how really good it would turn out to be. We all headed over in his direction to see how big it was. Justin is a very accomplished fisherman in his thirties but has fished almost all his life. His biggest PB weighed was a big 9lb class fish until this trip. When he stepped off the bank with one foot to grab her he realized he had just caught a super pig. He put her on a digital scale that showed 14lbs-7oz. I weighed her on my digital and got 14-lbs-8.5ozs. She measured out at 25.75 inches long with a 24" girth. We finished the trip with a full day of fishing after that trophy day. We ended up with two fish over 8lbs, two over 7lbs and four over six with some fives. One unlucky angler lost a DD on a Hudd 68 when she wallowed at the bank. Shame on him.

  16. Had an absolute blast today at my pond. Tons of small males hanging out by the bank. I'm guessing they're getting ready to spawn. Used a Zoom Super Fluke. Caught about half on one and half on the other. I was able to see all the fish bite with the exception of one. BTW Matthew: I did get pics but they were on my cheap outdoor trackphone and can't be uploaded.

  18. Big Bite Baits is based out of Eufaula, Alabama. I think their plastics are actually made at different facilities, one being in GA. Tackle Tour or BassMaster had a big walkthru tour of the facility a while back. The same facility produces the Gander Mountain plastics from the same molds so basically they are the same thing.

  20. Speed is key; as Tom mentioned there is a time frame that starts with the bass "vacuuming" your jig off the bottom and lasts until they spit it. If your strike detection and subsequent hook set is in the latter half of that time frame your hookup ratio will suffer. Drop the rod: I'm old school, I keep my rod tip high, somewhere around the 11 °clock position and I seldom drop below the 9:30 position before setting hook. Reel the slack: Y'all talk like there are yards of line to take up! The amount of slack in your line should never be more than a turn or two of the handle. Dropping the rod tip and reeling in slack is done simultaneously! Set the hook: I set hook straight up bringing my reel to my chest, arching my back, and sometimes taking a step backwards. This provides more than enough power to turn a 10 lb bass's head towards me and gets her coming up!

  30. There is an app for that. Search "aquadic plants" in your App Store and choose the one by NC STATE UNIVERSITY. Great app developed by doctors and biologists. It would take a little research but they'll have what you're looking for.

  31. Do just like you would in the ponds you fished. Find cover and fish it throughly with a few different types of lures. Since you won't be able to cover a ton of water really dissect the cover you have in front of you. Fishing from the bank really forces you to slow down, and that's a good thing.

  34. With all due respect, some of this sounds crazy to me! I bank fish exclusively, and don't take a great deal of "precaution" when hunting these fish. I assume your not fishing for money, etc. when bank fishing. Just for personal enjoyment.. Just fish! I catch plenty when walking normally, talking to buddies, standing with my shadow in the water, stopping to throw a dip in.. Seems to me the fun is lost when I have to start worrying about my reel clicking, or having a certain piece of clothing I'm obligated to wear. Just go out, leave the world behind for a bit, and fish.

  35. Briefly went out this afternoon to see if anybody wanted a mid day snack... I'll be heading to a different pond this evening. This one weighed 4 1/2 lbs.. could have had a couple more pounds on her with a head like that This one weighed 3 1/2 lbs and ate this bluegill swijig with a vertically rigged ragetail menace- first time catching using this as a trailer

  43. At 50 + you will see things very differently , you can plan all you want to , save all you want to , so you can do what you want to when you retire , well , life has a funny way of getting in the way of your desires . Do what you can , when you can , put the important stuff ahead of you and leave the yesterdays where they belong , behind you . Only 10 years in the work force under your belt is not a very long time at all , be patient and take every advantage of educational opportunities you have to improve your marketability .

  44. That's because they wanted it to be the Metanium. They'd be a lot happier if they just flushed and oiled it rather than yelling at the thing and waiting for it to work better as a result- but understanding what to expect from a $150 reel would help people a lot. They aren't going to get a Metanium for that price. My guess is that it's a seasonal promo from Shimano. There is nothing wrong with the Curado I aside from having a lot of grease in it from the factory.

  46. Thanks for all the info!!! Helped me spend MORE money! I ended up buying the 899ci HD SI combo. The way I viewed it, the 798 wasn't exactly cheap....would hate to spend a lot of money on something that I wasn't totally satisifed with. In the end, I wanted to buy a unit that I could use properly and be happy with. Besides, doesn't matter which unit I bought....I'm going to be in the same amount of trouble from the wife regardless of whether it was $700 or $1000!!! Just another item to be hidden until it looks a little used...go big or go home!
