  1. Here's the deal. Actually, here's the speech I gave back when I was dating. It went something like this: So what happened? I married a woman who loves fishing as much as I do! Go figure!

  2. So I posted a topic the other day about a good combo under or around 100 because I'm a broke college kid lol I won't say the persons screen name but they sent me a private message asking were I was and if I was local to him and that he would willing give me a combo... I'm a total stranger and he is willing to give me a combo. Witch totally blows my mind. Second I kindly let him know that I was able to buy a couple combos over the last couple days and that I was thankful for his offer. And he still offered to send me a reel he had laying around. I'm only 19 so I don't know much about "the good ol days" but I know enough that there not many people around that are willing to help like he was! I haven't been on a forum were I wasn't bashed for being the new kid, and was offered something for free from a fellow fisherman and this place is starting to feel more like a family of fisherman than anything else. I'm greatful for the user who offered all this stuff and thought I'd share this with people as there's not many people out there that would be so nice to someone they don't even no! Thanks yall have a great night

  3. I share the same opinion as RSM 789. Both people have the option of doing as they wish, there is no financial commitment in dating, nor does it always last a lifetime. My wife is my queen. She raised the children, goes to the market, prepares the family meals, takes care of the majority of the household duties, and worked outside the home as well. A women's job isn't easy and financially less rewarding than many men. My wife comes first, her purchases do not justify me buying anything. Both my wife and myself are responsible with our finances, we don't have to ask permission. We know what we can afford and what we can't. My wife earned my devotion, there isn't a fish to caught or a rod and reel to be had that comes before my wife.

  4. nope. 1 oz. over 10. at barely over 22" long! Are you kiddin' me!?!?!? this one's relative weight is completely off the charts. by comparison, most "average" 22" fish are 5.5 - 7 pounds. a "fat" 22" fish might be 8 or if you're lucky, pushing 9. So this is a very special fish indeed. keep growing baby. i got a real good feelin' about you....... happy Easter guys! hope y'all are having a great day.

  5. Nope, That little thing is called jealousy. The higher end reels obviously perform better then 100 dollar reels. And dobyns rods are kinda great. So no but go buy some mega bass stuff too then they will make fun of you even more. Then come tournament time, show up and fish well and the respect wil come.

  6. I want everyone's man card, except Glenn, who told them straight up accept it or not. To the rest grow a pair now before you get married, it will save allot of hassle later. Jeez explain to a gf how I spend my money? It would have never crossed my mind.

  10. I don't know a single person that restricts all spending to 100% NEED. It's good advice to live within your means, but if you're doing that and it gives you pleasure to splurge here or there whether it be on a car, furniture, vacation, fishing tackle, other hobby related equipment or whatever no one has any business commenting. Enjoy the fruits of your labor. Remember we work to live, not live to work.

  11. Each year since '84 I have went home to fish on Good Friday and on Saturday. It's become a tradition with some years great and others OK. This year, as every other year was filled with great expectations, and while no big fish were caught it was a good/great numbers day(s) and the fish were feisty! They didn't appear to be chasing the bait and well placed casts were a must. The water weeds held few and It didn't take long to figure out that wood was the key and wood near a spawning area was almost a guarantee! We boated 37 bass in 10 hours over two days inbetween 1-2 lbs. There are big fish In this pond but we never had so much as a bite from any. I have no clue where they were. lol I caught mine on R.I. Skinny Dipper, ( I only caught one fish swimming the bait color: Bullfrog) A Yamamotto Senko tx rigged weightless,(red shad) and my first bladed jig fish(Thanks Mike from Siebert outdoors color: bluegill) when I pitched into a pocket and made two turns of the reel and a nice fish slammed it! My brother caught his on a Berkley Power worm, (Black) a Zoom 6" big dead ringer, (red shad) and a Zoom lizard, (pumkin seed). The one surprise of the trip was a 12" black crappie of a weightless Senko. It's my largest crappie to date and it was a great fight, at least momentarily. Not Included in the numbers were the crappie and 3 large(3-5 lbs) black fish. I despise those toothy critters but I begrudgingly admit they are great fighting fish. As I get older the trips are more special but not so much about the fishing but more about being thankful for getting out on the water, appreciating this semi-private paradise, and most Important Is the time I get to spend with my brother out on the water. He's a self-described old hippie and whatever the differences In our approach to life(he's incredibley laid back and goes with the flow) the opportunity to fish with him means the world to me. It's great family time and the stories with share with my legally blind mama are what make this trip more special with each passing year! I will post some pictures after a while as there's a problem with the size......... Update with a few pictures....

  16. Some of the most judgemental people I know are the ones who are critical of anyone who spends more money on anything than they do. This often has less to do with the ability to buy than an attitude that says my judgment is superior to yours. It is an attitude that says it is foolish to spend your money that way, and is often based on ignorance and prejudice. Hang around any local tackle/bait shop very long and you will hear things so dumb it will make you talk to yourself!

  17. The argument can go both ways. No, I don't need a $$$ combo to catch fish. No, it won't make me a better fisherman. However I buy what I want with my money so other people's opinions don't make a difference to me. I fish alone the majority of the time and when I do fish with people they wouldn't know my combo from one from walmart. Except a few of my friends who tell me I have a problem. It puts a smile on my face and I'm número uno! Buy whatever you want and enjoy using it!

  18. I'm on mobile so I can't post the pictures sorry. This weekend I hit Toledo bend after getting my sieberts order in last week so I decided to put them to work. And oh man do they work. The Okeechobee craw dredge brush jig and sweet crawls dredge brush worked wonders. pulled in two solid 3 pounders in a period of about 3 cast on the Okeechobee. They flat out smashed them. I've never really jig fished til this weekend and now I love it.

  19. for all the guys saying you need to find one that fishes.... i respectfully disagree. i LOVE the fact that fishing is my time! my wife has gone a couple of times with me and though she liked catching more fish than i did, she was not "hooked" so to speak. in my opinion, it is equally important to find things you can do separately as it is to find things to do together. once you have the respect for each other's hobbies or passions, you will learn to accept then foster their behavior towards those activities. Most important is just open honest communication NO MATTER WHAT. if you ever feel the need to lie or be sneaky, you're either in the wrong or with the wrong person.

  21. Techniques, rigs, tackle, etc. gets borrowed, recombibulated and eventually evolved into a specific thing. Drop Shot and Carolina -Rig are two very good examples of live bait rigs that were adapted to presenting artificial baits. The Float 'n Fly is another good example. It's all born from basic problem solving. Each rig solves a common set of problems in bass fishing - probably similar to its forebearer.

  22. Got a report for you all, this will be from yesterday evening and this morning. Just pictures for now, I will have a video put together in coming days; I want to compile both my footage and MIBassin's. Here is MIBassin and his new PB of 6 lb 1 oz, caught on a spinnerbait. Picture is a bit fuzzy since it was actually quite dark out. Some more fish from the evening: This bass is from this morning on a D&M custom chatterbait Also from this morning...I had walked over to this small canal... ...and pulled out this 2 foot gar Stay tuned!

  24. I and some other guys went to a certain lake To start out the morning, it was raining, and we got there about 7:20. About 10 minutes after that, i was throwing a white KVD Elite series spinnerbait(i think that is what is was), when this exceptionally large bass hit. I didn't measure, but it weighed 5.9lbs. Nobody else caught anything for some reason at all.

  26. I have never started a post recommending any product. But I was thinking about spinner baits & decided to share. After using this product in Mexico & Florida I have grown to like it. The bait is very compact in design, has a good quality hook sharp out of the package & has passed the durability test with adequate wire strength. The bait is a Strike King burner spinner bait. It come in 3/8 & 1/2 oz sizes. It sells for $5.99 at the big tackle store. It is available just about everywhere. Strike King also makes a heavy spinner bait called the bottom dweller. Similar design to the burner but available in 3/4, 1 oz & 1 3/8 oz. One of the guys I fish with just caught a 14lb-8oz GA bass on the burner spinner bait so I know they stand up to big fish.

  27. First win of the year! gardnerjigman and I teamed up for 14lbs 11ozs and I caught the big bass at 4lbs 14ozs. They were slamming my bladed jigs, which is always a good time. Took us about 30 minutes to get a fish, which feels like an eternity in a 2.5 hour weeknight tournament. Then I got my heart broke by a 5lb channel cat that slammed the bait 15' from the boat. Finally got on them good in the very back of one of the main lake arms in less than 2' of water. Both my bigger fish were right on the bank in less than a foot and hit the bait almost instantly. The biggest fish had a massive gizzard shad tail sticking out of her throat. I fished a few different colors but 2 of them were by far my best producers. Had a few on a spinnerbait also but nothing that got weighed in. \ The big girl fell for Bream with a Zman Diesel MinnowZ in Houdini Our other two biggest fish choked the T-rock with a black and blue YUM swim 'N dinger on the back. Coty snagged a massive grass carp with his bladed jig for a few seconds, looked like a scene from Swamp People with muddy water and weeds flying everywhere when it exploded the surface when the hook dug in, thankfully it popped loose. Had a massive 18" crappie caught by another team, never seen a crappie that big in person, it was a giant! Second place had 9lbs 7ozs and were both also fishing my bladed jigs. We watched them catch their kicker fish, 4lbs 12ozs. Kind of bittersweet to have someone else doing well with your baits when you're fishing against them

  29. One thing to keep in mind is that you want to be able to fish all 5 lures on the same setup I would imagine? Unless your uncle plans on using a few different types of rod and reel combos. I imagine its a 6'-7' medium action setup so for that I would say that everyone has already hit on the good baits for that rod and reel. Square bills, Chatterbaits, Drop Shot, Spinnerbaits, Senkos, Jigs, Lipless Cranks.

  34. ABW is right. All you need are senkos to start off with. Since you asked for 5 this is what I would use: 1. senkos (wacky rigged and texas rigged) 2. finesse worm (on shaky head jig) 3. floating hollow body frogs (pad crasher) 4. skirted jigs with a craw trailer (too many options. can't go wrong.) 5. 3" to 5" swimbaits on a weighted wide gap hook. (keitech impact fat on an eagle claw lazer weighted 60 degree hook)

  35. Crazy how they close publically owned waters to fishing, thinking that public use contaminates raw water. Scientifically it's just not possible. And ban you from Casitas? WTH? For disagreeing with the stupid quarantine or something? Anglers have got to band together and defeat these municipal nuts who think they can unilaterally bar us from our own lakes.

  36. First, you are not stupid at all. Buy what you like and enjoy it. Forget what anyone else says. I get grief for buying $500 rods and having them modified (even on this forum), but I can care less what others think. Here's the only time I would say someone is stupid for buying the gear they do is if someone was using money they needed to provide for their family. If all your "musts" are taken care of, go wild and buy what you want. Also, the only joke in that shop are those clowns who were putting you down. No need for that. We all share the passion of fishing and that bond alone is all that matters.

  38. Figured I'd post this up in case it might come in handy to someone. I really didn't want to drill any holes in my yak since that's something that can't be undone. Also I'm not 100% on which side will work the best so this way it can easily be swapped to the other side. I found a few ideas online and adapted them to my specific yak. Takes about 15 minutes. My yak came with a trolley kit so that's where the pulleys and ring came from. You will need to purchase about $4 worth of hardware unless you have it around. 1 - M5x.80 stainless pan head screw 20mm 1 - M5x.80 stainless pan head screw 50mm 1 - M5x.80 nylon lock nut 3 - Stainless fender washers 25ft of 3/16 para cord or rope of choice. Replace the rear screw with the 20mm one. Put the 3 washers under the pulley and tighten down. Open front hatch and remove the bolt/nut that holds down to front paddle strap. Replace with the 50mm one. I trimmed 1/4" off mine but it's not necessary. Tie you cord to the plastic ring and push it under the side hande. Starting from the rear run your cord from the bottom over the top of the pulley and up to the side grab handle. Go over/under the ring and up to the front pulley. Feed the cord from the top to the bottom and back to the side grab handle. Figure out your slack and tie your knot. I burn the ends with a lighter and smash them down.

  41. If the bass can fit under it, they will use it as cover. I wouldn't worry too much about scaring the bass. Bass are a lot harder to spook in heavy cover. It gives them security. I would use the lightest weight I could get away with though. I've punched mats five feet away from me on the bank and have caught fish. A lot of people don't do it, and sometimes it really pays off.

  45. I don't drop shot at all in water that is dirty, in fact fishing a drop shot for me is similar to jerkbaits, the water has to to be clear or just a little color, maybe a little less visibility than a jerkbait but at least 2' minimum. It will work in dirty water but there are better options, bass are going to be shallower so I'll be either pitching a jig or soft plastic T-rigged.

  47. Bet this guy is also a trout fisherman. Very common to call eggs spawn. The easiest way to tell is by season, although we know that is never a 100% sure way to know. My take on it is this, I would never do it. But if someone chooses to keep a bass, caught within a legal season, by legal means, and is a legal fish, it is his/her right to do so. There are thousands of bass spawning around the same time period each year, and to think that just 1 bass will ruin a lake is asinine. Like I said, I would never do it, but all things taken into consideration- it is their right just like it is yours to release the fish. Jeff
