  1. As you guys know I like my 50 size reels in the "round" however I decided to give it a go and dive into the LP arena. One factor that caught my eye on the new Aldebaran 50 is the SilentTune feature something that will not be available on the new BFS LTD model and of course the HG option. So here are a few pic's of the Aldebaran 50HG.......

  2. I wasn't going to head out to fish this afternoon with the temps in the low 30's and 20mph winds but with the water temp more than likely still staying consistant I ventured out with many layers on ( except forgot gloves). Water temp was 50. I threw 3 or 4 different swimbaits including the Hudd 68, and a Dirty Jig with a 5'' Kalins grub trailer. The Hudd 68 would eventually get eaten there but I didn't put much time into it today. The rig walker and another pre- rigged swimbait a little bigger were slaying them again along with the swimjig. One of the first bass caught looked like Dottie's long lost grand daughter with the dot in a different area. A few casts later a bass nailed the swimbait real hard and was fighting like a much larger fish. At first I thought it was a giant but after getting her in she was in the 4lb range with some type of fish jammed down her throat like a crappie or something. I threw the swimjig for a little bit and caught 3 or 4 and missed about the same. After catching all the crappie yesterday I made sure to throw the bigger of the two swimbaits to hopefully eliminate catching them. On one cast something crushed the bait and felt strong. It was the same 4lbish pickerel that bit off my Rage Blade a few days ago and it was still in it's mouth. It was nice to get that back. There are numerous huge laydowns in the water with many branches and one of these times I need to put some time in with whatever lure wont get me hung up because many a lure Iv'e lost there already. I lost count but was around a 20 fish day. Dotties relative It was nice to get the Rage Blade back from the fish. It needs a break but the action is too good to stop.

  3. Yesterday our air temperatures were in the 30's and we had winds gusting to 28 miles per hour but it seems the bass slowly but surely are moving to shallow cover. This one fooled me, when I got the first glimpse I thought I had a better fish but this one was just chunky. In 2 feet of water on a laydown log. Black&Blue 1/2 ounce football jig with a Netbait B Bug as a trailer.

  9. Think about it this way. You say there's BIG fish in that lake right? Now there's BIG fish and trout. You need to get a swimbait rod and a hudd. It's like a mini Cali Delta.

  11. The diverter on my tub spout sticks sometimes and doesn't fall all the way back down from the previous shower the morning before . Nothing like stepping in the tub half asleep and having that cold water blast you in your upper torso and face the instant you turn the valve on. This would be a good test to determine how healthy ones heart is. It sure got the expletives flying early this morning I think the only thing worse is sliding the shower curtain back to step in and seeing one of those wolf spiders staring at you in the bottom of the tub.

  14. Personally, I couldn't get rid of my Abu's fast enough, I don't care if a reel is capable of a 50 year lifespan.. You don't hear me and other Shimano & Daiwa fans trashing out those reels.. If you notice, the Disgruntled Shimano ex-users.. The theme is to just insistently bash Shimano on this Site.. Seems like trolling to me, having a opinion is one thing, interjecting the same old rhetoric has little purpose. I'm sorry Shimano failed to meet your expectations, sounds like Abu's are your go to reels. Great, I don't see a problem, except you try and create one. Always. Get over it and move on..

  17. Nice reel indeed ! So much new, neat stuff already released this year and this one is tempting. BUT, speaking of round reels, I think I'll be more likely to look at the high-speed Conquest when it's released in a month or so...

  23. My divorce finalized last wednesday. So that was a relief. As far as the girl friend and what not. I have never been happier. It's just all the other stuff life has thrown at me over the last year that I'm trying to work through. After my nice fishing trip today with the girlfriend and her niece things are starting to seem better. I forgot how therapeutic fishing can be. I've been three times in the last three days and it's apparently starting to make a difference.

  24. That sir is a good one. Even you would have to admit it would look weird. Two middle aged men. One with a beard that looks like he tired out for duck dynasty. The other A Italian with tattoos, and a Chicago accent. Then me a 29/30 year old man. Who is pudgy, pasty white with a farmers tan, But hands that are are as black as coal from work. Yea we wont stick out at all. Just imagine if we could get Raider to come up. We might make the local news with him.

  25. If they are fishing trout and catch a few bass it's not going to hurt the population. Once the fishing slows, they leave. If the bass eats one of those stupid Power Mouse baits, well then he needed to go in the bucket. Saw a guy today who had a 1lb buck bass on a stringer. It happens, he was in aww when I threw back a 3lber (wanted the 7lb female he was with) and continued on my way. The harvest of a few will improve the fishing by removing some and freeing up the food for the others to grow bigger. I would look into a swimbait though and when they all show up to fish for trout, well then I'd fish a 8" hudd and smile.

  27. The prespawn has taken some time to arrive, and lakes have only recently iced out. Got my first fish on a spro aruku shad in perch just burning it under the surface. Felt so good to have a New York bass on my line again. I also caught a yellow perch on, ironically, a yellow perch rapala jerkbait... how funny.... and even the front hook was in his mouth haha More fish will be coming soon for sure!!

Caught some walleye and saw some bald eagles and froze my azz off. I'll still be here if you return. If not, I had it coming. Peace

  30. Just picked up another Curado 200I on Ebay for $137.00 with free shipping. I bought on last week from Dicks with a 15$ off coupon and still ended up paying 175$ with the tax. Excellent Reel for the money at either price. Will give it to the Wife ( she loves casting reels ) to celebrate the purchase of our fishing place on Black Lake, NY. Hopefully she will break it in on a nice Northern Pike when we head up the beginning of May. Rick

  32. Finally!!!! After a couple of months of cabin fever and sick of watching DVR'd fishing shows, I finally got out on the water. Went out with my dad last Saturday to fish the strip pits - surface temps were below 50°F. Fished 3/8oz. jig & craws and it was painfully slow, not that I expected it to be on fire seeing how the ice had only been off about a week at most. Did manage to stick this 4lb 5oz later in the day. It hit on the initial fall, as most of these fish typically do. I believe the air temps were in the upper 50's last Saturday and I'm planning on going back to the same pit today - highs aren't supposed to get over 40 today, so we'll see if the insulated bibs still fit and if Mrs. Fatbottom is in a mood to tangle with Mr. Jigncraw or not..... 36. You know, I think the G Loomis E6X 884C SWB maybe worth a look. Even though it is labelled a "swimbait" rod, it has a lure rating 1/2 oz to 2 oz. and is only 7'4" long. I should state that I have yet to hold this rod, but it does meet your requirements.

  41. I have about thirty baitcasters, the high percentage are Shimano but I aklso have three Abu Morrums and one Lews Pro Speed Spool. The first Lews (after using Lews thirty years ago) had a problem with the handle nut being stripped on the shaft. Actually it may have been the shaft that was stripped. Regardless, it was either bad machining or cheap steel. I returned it to Tackle Warehouse and they replaced it immediately. A friend of mine had two Lews that had the same problem. He returned his also. The Lews is definitely smooth, fairly light and has a large line capacity, if that's of any concern. I actually like using my Lews reel for certain techniques. I have the newest Shimano Curados, Chronarch CI4s, Cores, Metaniums and Calais reels as well as two Calcuttas. The Curado is outstanding. They now have finer machined gears and are silky smooth as are all the other newer Shimanos. The true measure of a reel is not how smooth it is the first month you use it but if it can stand up to rigorous use over the course of a year or two or ten. And don't get caught up in how many bearings any reel has. There are super hard anti-rust bearings and then there are mediocre bearings. Shimano has super hard bearings that stay round and smooth over time resulting in smooth casts and long life. My confidence is with Shimano because of my long standing experience with their quality. The Curado I series won best of show at ICAST and I see a lot of seasoned bassers using them. They hold up. They have solid gears, excellent drag systems and are somewhat bullet-proof. As you can tell I lean very heavily toward Shimano although Lews seems to have corrected thier flaw. Just my opinion.

  43. Color is certainly a mainstay in the conversation of a lot of fishermen. To be perfectly honest with you, I believe most folks believe in color because using a particular color is what has given them success in the past. Some will say they've tried different colors, but for how long? All day? More likely than not, for only 10 min. or so, before resorting back to the color they have the most confidence in. No one wants to pass up an opportunity to have another fish on the line. I think the Yamamoto's Senko color chart contains over 50 different selections. I find that amusing. Like a fish is going to eyeball a worm to see if it has gold or silver sparkles before deciding whether or not to eat it! But hey, it's what drives the economy. I've never really been overly concerned about color. And I don't do too bad.

  44. That color theory has caused me great financial distress. I almost always have to have duplicates of certain colors in hardbaits.

  45. Easy way to remove line twist ~ While running your boat at a slow & control speed, let all your line out behind the boat. It's Important that you have NOTHING tied on the end of the line. Once it's all out, close the bail and just hold it for a minute or two; all the twists will come out. Then simply reel it all back up. This is something you can & should consider doing periodically / anytime you're fishing any technique that twists your line - on any rig not just spinning gear. Good Luck A-Jay

  46. I apologize if it sounds insulting, but my first thoughts were the same as Zeth - was the line coming off the spool counter-clockwise?
