  1. Picked these up within the last few days. Plans for a few others I don't have.

  2. Things I learned 1. “We don’t get many of Y’all down here!” is how I was greeted at Bass Pro (Shreveport) when I bought my license. That sentiment repeated itself over and over again down here. J 2. Clear water is relative. What the guys described as clear water to me was stained. One thing we could agree on was muddy water. J 3. Watermelon Red works in “stained” water. I could barely see it when the lure was in the water BUT when push came to shove that was the color to use. Confirmed with one trip to Toledo Tackle where all the good Watermelon Red baits were plain off the shelf. 4. Never order decaf in the South. They looked at me like if I had my head cut off. LOL 5. Weight was a key to my catches. When flipping and pitching I tend to go heavy. Drop it hard and fast for reaction bites. That scared more fish than I can imagine. Dropping down considerably for me (1/4oz) was the key to getting some bites. A subtle fall with a nice soak was got their attention. 6. Switched to fluorocarbon – get more bites. On day 1 Bighead was fishing with fluoro, I was using braid. Over time we were puzzled why I wasn’t getting bit. We worked over the setups one section at a time. First the weight, second the lure and finally the line. Once I got to the line I started getting bit. In that water clarity we were both convinced that line color wouldn’t make a difference. FWIW it did to us. 7. Never order a baked potato past 7pm. 8. When looking for tackle stop by any gas station. They got their priorities straight down there! Shout out to Toledo Tackle which puts any of my Albany shops to shame. 9. There are gators in Toledo Bend. Did not know that. 10. There are Alligator Gar in Toledo Bend. Tried catching a few to no avail. 11. Travel rods are a GREAT way to save money when flying. Carried 2 3-piece rods on and bagged and tagged 2 two-piece rods which counted as standard luggage as opposed to oversize. 12. Shooting through weeds around a cypress tree to catch bass is FUN AS HELL. 13. Riding over a submerged stump rattles the unexpected. 14. Riding down “boat lanes” and seeing a marker WAY off course also tends to make you pucker just a bit. 15. Who knew … “boat lanes” We don’t have these on Lake Champlain. J 16. No matter how much tackle you bring you will ALWAYS not bring the lure they were biting on. Uhm … lizards. 17. Boudin Balls are delicious!

  3. Razor clams is what we affectionately call them around here. Forget about flipping docks with crossbars once they have zebra mussels on them, it's easier to just cut your jig off and throw it straight in the lake, at least a fish doesn't have to wear it around that way.

  4. Finally got out after getting my boat together and my new daughter arrived early Friday morning. My wife is great. We got home from the hospital at 1:30 and I was on the lake just after 3. We fished the last three days before the front came in and had several good days. Here is a pic from tonight after putting 22 lbs together in about 15 min.

  5. Providing everything is legal, that's their right. Don't get me wrong, I never keep fish I catch, and frankly never plan on it, but no reason to dwell on it. People are gonna do what they want.. Come to think of it, a lot of people are gonna do what they want legal or not. That's when its a shame.

  7. Why would that make you change brands. They just now finally are doing what shimano has always done, but no one notices. A citica is a curado is a chronarch. Just a bearing count difference. Why abandon one brand for doing what all do.

  8. Been getting pretty addicted to throwing the 6th Sense Snatch70 lipless crank. Here's another big one from this weekend! Smaller of the two was caught on a ripbait.

  9. So you then would make a choice of what is right or wrong disregarding the rules of C & R at this pond by letting them take some fish.....that is no better than what they are doing in my mind. If it is against the law, it is against the law or rules in this case. If you let some slide you don't have the right to pick and choose what to follow.

  12. When back on Okeechobee for the 3 day. Caught about 10 fish most between 1-2lbs. And these were the biggest 3 of the day. All in all good fishing......I love FLORIDA!!!!!!!!!! Could you believe my Uncle is 90 years old. Old scoundrels still got it in him to catch the big ones. All fish were caught on Manns Jelly Worms in Blackberry also on Spro Bronzeye Frogs.

  13. Not sure if it was because of the gardening last year, general yard work or fishing (can't be fishing!), but several of my finger tips developed cracks and bleeding. Saw a TV add for a product called "Working Hands". Bought a jar and it does work. Not sure if it would work better than any other medicinal hand cream, but after about 3 weeks of use, the wounds healed and fingers got a lot better. Scars from the splits are still there, but at least I'm not bleeding, fingers are not super sensitive as they were and the pain is gone. You might want to give it a shot. Got mine at Walmarts, in the "Lotions" department. Cost around $7.00, but it goes a long way, you don't use much.

  14. Picked her up today, they buffed and waxed all the clear coat she shines like a new one. Replaced the horn nav light assembly, new 1600gph bilge, bow control panel, rewired all shorts (4), replaced/rewired main junction box, oh and filled up the tank that alone is 50 gallons of gas. Everything works, all trailer lights are led's. Could not be happier well worth the additional wait.

  15. I think that about sums it up. We're not here to bash the seller or the buyer. We're here to learn about fishing. This has nothing to do with it. It doens't even belong in this category.

  16. The shipping time frame is listed as part of the auction and you still bid on the item. If you really had an issue with the time frame, ask your "why so long?" questions before hitting the bid button. Seems to me you're getting concerned over nothing. If anything, at least he is upfront about how long it will take.

  17. crankenstien, as far as i know, the tatulas are magnetic-braked only. to the OP, i'm assuming you're coming from using all spinning gear? if so, you should be aware that line retrieve rates are much higher than they are with baitcasting gear. for example, my 2500-size 6:1 gear ratio spinning reels pull in 35 to 36 Inches of line Per Turn (LPT) of the handle whereas many 6:1 baitcasters only pull in 24 to 26 IPT. even 7:1 gear ratio baitcasters only pull 28 to 31 IPT. so, if you're used to turning the handle at a certain speed, take into account the differences between the two.

  22. Last friday i went fishing at a local lake and some nice bass and bluegill and saw guys catching 1-5lb LMBs even a 7lber ALL SPAWNING FULL OF EGGS! And they kept all the fish they cuaght, I released all the fish i cuaght but I think they should make a law against keeping bass during the spawn...

  23. I have a Rapala Clackin' Rap, which I like, but once I started trying Cordell Super Spots, I have stuck with them. To be fair, I have not tried every lipless on the market. But when a $3 bait catches fish for me (just caught my PB on one), why would I start buying a $12 one?

  24. Why throw those valuable lures. Sometimes I wonder if I'd have enjoyed it more to run to my spot, whip out five rolls of quarters, and start making wishes, lol.

  26. I do a heck of lot more saltwater fishing than bass, just about everyone keeps their catch. I do get a bit annoyed at some of the fish whores that are out everyday taking home fish (perfectly legal), these people get nothing from me. I do give fish away to those that I feel are needy. I don't even put my beloved snook on that high pedestal, small slot and limit of 1, that just doesn't happen every day anyway. I pretty much C & R everything and certainly believe in selective harvest, I do have some what of a double standard. I see some one on a bucket I have no problem giving a bass a way, there are plenty of legal ones here. If I can help a family with dinner that is more important to me than just catching a fish, makes me feel pretty good that I helped.

  27. Your situation is exactly why I started making some that were weedless. I used the swinging football head mold and an Owner Twistlock XXX hook so I could rig my trailer up weedless and fish a bladed jig through standing timber without hanging up constantly. It worked out well too.

  28. Haha! Dobyn's is kind of the IPhone of fishing rods. Are they good? Yea, but you can get something just as good for cheaper. I feel its more of a "hey, let's all be cool and jump on the bandwagon" sort of deal for a lot of folks. I'm not trying to point anybody out, just saying.

  29. Why would I need more than a full hour to determine if a rod is all that plus a bag of chips? Also, why would anyone comment to post factual information about the Fury? I don't think anyone has one yet, do they? So we automatically assume this will be the 100 dollar rod to have because it says Dobyns on it? Self explanatory right there. Must be the bees knees, it's a Dobyns!!

  33. I don't know what these guys are talking about. There is a HUGE difference between the two. Blk/blue is strictly for stained water (visibility about a foot). Blk/red is used only for slightly muddy water (visiblity no deeper than a ruler).

  34. If the spool tension is turned too far it pushes the spool outward so when the sideplate is removed spool will be out farther not able to be pushed back in easily. Lessening the spool tension lets the spool/shaft move in more allowing the sideplate to go back on more easily. The spool shaft is basically squeezed between the sideplate and the tension cap.

  35. If you are ever caught without a tape or a scale, clip a piece of line the length of the bass and take it home to measure. You can do the same thing to get the girth (then you can get a reasonable estimate of what the weight would have been).

  36. I think you might want to re-think that. The sun is always higher in the south, shining on the north/northwest shoreline areas of the pond and warming them up first and quickest. I'd be tossing hard jerkbaits, with a decent pause (5 - 10 sec.) inbetween twitches. And watch your line.

  37. I would attack this lake in this manner: Bombers to take out communications system. Bombers to knock out roads, bridges and airfields. Fighter jets to strafe all buildings, vehicles and propane tanks. Ground troops take control of the electric power station and airport after fighters hit aircraft on the field and the main terminal building. Set up a perimeter with ground troops around the lake with orders to shoot at will. Then I would have the lake under control and ready for a counter attack. Oops. You mean how to attack the lake when fishing in 30* water. S-l-o-w and deep. Hit all places that could hold warmer water like stained or dirty water; rocks, bridge pilings; wood in water; and shallows where the sun bears down. Fish the drop-offs and roadbeds. Hit the stumps, especially if they stick out of the water. Use your moving baits and a jig and pig. Fish the jig and pig slow. Cast it out and let it sit for at least two minutes before you give it a little tug with your rod tip. Then let it sit again and repeat the process. Fish the north and west sides first as they get more sunlight during the day. Don't have high hopes of catching 20 bass. Any caught silver bass will do. I know you are going crazy to get out and do some fishing but 30* water will not be in your favor. However, with what the guys posted and my two cents please go out and let us know how you do. But only go out if you: 1) Tell your family where you will be and what time you will be home. 2) wear your PFD at all times, even along the bank. 3) If it snags wrap your line around a tree or bush on the bank and come back for it next month. 4) Make sure your cell phone is fully charged. 5) Have an extra set of clothes, socks and shoes with you. Now get out of the house and do some fishing. Just watch for those fighter jets.

  38. Certainly not a 10. Good healthy fish nonetheless. Hard to guess a weight because of the angle. Lips and jaw aren't huge though. Unless of course you have huge hands.

  44. Hmm if you look over the past years you will find new scents in the market stating amino acids I have gone to many shows including ICAST. Where I was in a shirt and tie and asked the manufactures and inventors of these scents/attractants which Aminos are in there and what was their significance. I would say 99% of them had no clue So I call bs on them. If you look at our history I would have to say Megastrike is the first to proclaim the "Amino Acid" concept. I know what's in there and I know specifically why each one of them are for. I learned how to develope the "carrier" and make them water soluble. So basically you are attracting them by olfaction / smell. Chemo/gustation = taste =retention So Berkley makes a great product and I always give credit when due but always look at science and options. Ask anyone that watched me at the Bassmasters Classic doing demonstratiins with it. It will make you a believer.

If my heels and the pack see the elite 8 it may be nothing short of a miracle! but Duke may be headed to the big dance for real...
