  1. Been getting pretty addicted to throwing the 6th Sense Snatch70 lipless crank. Here's another big one from this weekend! Smaller of the two was caught on a ripbait.

  2. Have been saltwater fishing for years, but just got back into freshwater fishing again recently. Was out in my canoe this weekend on Lake June and caught my biggest bass yet. Better yet it was on a Zebco Dock Demon Deluxe spinning combo. Edited my daughter out of this one, if anyone wonders why the grass looks weird. Think I might get a scale now to see what I'm actually catching. When I first saw this thing come to the surface I almost poo'd my pants. I can see how this becomes addictive.

  6. I've had my Met DC on the water numerous times now, in winds up to 20mph. Had it in the boat today. I can't make mine backlash. I'm still tossing a 1/2oz RES which does cast well into wind. I use the #2 setting most of the time, but if the wind is still or I have the wind at my back I can use setting #1 and get more distance. The reel has "loosened" up some since the first report and I'm getting about all the distance I can use and still get a good hookset with the 12lb mono that's on the reel right now. The casts are effortless, I don't have to worry about backlash, and I can use any casting stroke from a light toss to just wailing on the rod on the cast. Great reel. BUT, I still have to catch a bass with it before I can give it my highest approval rating. I did catch an 8" bluegill with it the other day but since this isn't the "Bluegill Resource" board...I didn't bother to post a photo...

  7. Certainly not a 10. Good healthy fish nonetheless. Hard to guess a weight because of the angle. Lips and jaw aren't huge though. Unless of course you have huge hands.

  10. My son, BIL and I took a trip out to the Everglades yesterday. We launched out of MM35 and Alligator Alley. The day was beautiful. A little bit on the warm side, but manageable. The fishing was not out of this world, but we caught some quality fish during our outing. The baits that produced for us were: stick baits, uvibes, mice, and frogs. Bass count was 23, and the biggest fish of the day went for 4 lbs, and measured 19" caught on a frog. All in all we had great day. My son enjoyed the trip which was the main thing. I am very proud of him. We fished from 930am to 645 pm. That's pretty tough to do.

  11. Next best thing is hearing it. This is from almost 15 years ago, but it's the big DW kit, all the big K cymbals, and the 60 year old chrome on brass snare drum. I'm afraid you'll have to wait until late fall to hear the new wood drum, though it's quickly edging out my Omar Hakim African mahogany snare I usually prefer.

  12. The idea that you are only fishing for one bite is BS. I have had several 20+ fish days and I am not talking about using hollow bodies. In the same token fishing swimbaits only and nothing else is one dimensional and this is why guys go 2 months with out a bite. There is a time and a place for everything and you have know when not to throw swimbaits. Some lakes just are not good swimbait lakes and with time you will start to figure it out. Just don't assume its a bad lake. Swimbaits are harder to fish than any other bait I have tried. They are a straight up challenge but the lessons are golden and apply to all techniques. Learning to use swimbaits will dramatically improve your fishing skill sets. It takes time on the water and a good pair of sun glasses to get good with them. You will need to learn to read the fish. Followers will tell you a lot. Like Tom mentioned you can come back to fish but you can also reposition them. Sometimes its timing. Consider your angles they are key. Bass like to pin there prey and the wrong angles can make for long days. The right angle can put 30lbs in the boat in a few casts. Most guys buy a big bait and throw it a few times put it down and claim they can't get bit on them or that they don't work in there area. I prefer it this way.

  14. Deepen your inventory of go-to baits. Say you're down to your last bag of GYCB 5" Hula Grubs in color #176, why don't you get two more bags? And how about Gamakatsu 1/0 Octopus Circle hooks for wacky rigging? Got enough? And hey . . . maybe now's the time to try spybaiting so you'll want a Duo Realis Spin Bait 80 in the Komochi Wakasagi color. Of course you'll want to optimize your presentation of this amazing little offering so you will need a St. Croix 7' ML rod and a Shimano Stradic 2500 which you will fill with Sunline Sniper FC - 6 lb. What was that amount again? $500.00?

  15. I think you might want to re-think that. The sun is always higher in the south, shining on the north/northwest shoreline areas of the pond and warming them up first and quickest. I'd be tossing hard jerkbaits, with a decent pause (5 - 10 sec.) inbetween twitches. And watch your line.

  16. Bighead and I had a field day out there regardless of the weather. I am on my way back home where it's a balmy 21 degrees right now. I would travel twice as long to get together with this crew again! Great times, great stories and great fishing!

  20. Thats just simply user error. You can fill 3 reels with a 200 yard spool instead of 1 reel and almost a second. You aren't going to hit your backing if you have at least 50-60 yards of mainline on your reel. Unless you have a shallow spool that only holds 80 yards total.

  24. Well thank you for that compliment Believe me it's always in my boat and tackle bag. I see people that say when the bite is slow then they add an "attractant ". Why would you not use it all the time. You could be missing fish. Now why would you do that

  25. You'll get a kick out of this. It's a badge detail from that drum's grandfather, a 50s era round badge chrome on brass 8 lug snare. I wish I still had the rest of that trap kit.

  26. Im no expert, but my thoughts are to treat it like weights on plastic baits. use it to control the rate of fall, along with how well it stays in contact with the bottom.

  31. Bass can be very selective feeders when an abundance of prey that suits them is available. The bass in general are opertunistic feeders striking whatever they believe is prey. Bass are also very protective of their nest sites when spawning, they remove whatever they think is a danger to the nest. Almost every bass lake, pond, stream or river has a crawdad population. Terrestrial animals like birds, mice, rats and insects also make up prey source with land, aquatic animals and insects including all types of snakes, lizards, salamanders, frogs. Fish of all types present in the water that bass can eat, they eat or try to. Your artificial lure is another choice for the bass to decide what it is and if it wants to eat it. The only way to know is give the lure a try and let the bass decide. Tom

  32. Finally got around to having my bench seat redone. Couldn't decide on having a center step or the middle seat. Really wanted to have the seat for the days my daughters go fishing with me. Upholstery guy came through and gave me both. Middle seat cushion is removable and flips over into a nice step to get into the back deck. Boat looks completely different now. Before and after:

  35. Being most of my fishing time is done between the hours of 8am and 3pm during the week when my son is at school, found myself with one of the best shallow water crankbait bites I've ever had yesterday on a Mann's 1 Minus. Although no monsters, watching 1-3+lb bass come out of nowhere and inhale the bait was just awesome. Must on had over 30 fish with I would say my best 5 probably totaling just over 15lbs, just an awesome day of fishing. They say when they are hooked on the front hook you know you have the right bait, well 90% of them had the front hook in the mouth and the back hook somewhere esle stuck in them. I know that days like the one I had are not the norm around where I live and to experience such a great bite where you could almost call your fish as you came by certain areas make days like that stand out. Even better when you happen to be doing it from the shore.

  37. My world is remains way frozen and will be for a while. However, If I had open water, on Friday, I'd be on it. (I don't ice fish). Friday morning is going to be pretty darned special with three celestial events….a super moon, the Spring equinox and a near-total solar eclipse all happening at the same time. Clearly not a guarantee of anything but who knows - could be the factor that gets a few Big Girls in an eating mood. A-Jay

  40. I'm going to say something that might make some mad at me but I've been messing with shaky head worms for awhile to see if floating worms did better over all because they look awesome when being worked across the bottom. What I discovered is there really isn't much of a difference in the amount of fish caught, over a 4 year period the number of fish caught and landed with a floating style worm was almost identical to a salt impregnated worm. We were fishing a spot 2 years ago, my buddy was using a Kicker Fish Hole Short 4.5" shaky worm and I was using the Berkley 4.75" Bottom Hopper Jr. and both worms were in green pumpkin color. The bite was decent for about 3 hours before we decided to move shallow for some jig fishing but my buddy caught 2 more fish than I did but I retied my line a couple times, he never did until we finished up. The thing was we were on a good bit of fish and they didn't seem to have a preference and it has been like that almost every time we go out but there are days when the floating worm just kills them and the same thing with the salt filled worm so I have both floating and sinking worms.

  41. What salt does in a plastic bait is it makes it sink. The more salt the faster it sinks. I make all my own plastics and for me I never make my shaky head baits with salt because I want them to stand up on the bottom. The other idea behind salt is that the bass will hold onto it longer. I have never seen any evidence of that. I think that is determined more on how they are bitting that day not the taste of salt.

  42. dont honestly see how you can say villanova played down to the level of the competition. NC State is a much better team than you think, but you have to watch them enough to know that. we simply just beat yall, at every aspect of the game. we limited your 3 point opportunities until late in the game. we played more physical than yall and set a tone in the paint, whether with our big guys off the pass, or with our back court driving in for layups. mark gottfried had the perfect game plan to counteract that version of press defense yall tried playing. yall shoot an insane amount of threes. if yall "played down" to us, the score wouldve been a lot lower too. nc state is a team that likes to work the pass, move the ball around and set up their shots. not afraid to run down the shot clock if they can control the game. Nova ran into a buzz saw and got outplayed and outcoached...i'll give you this, Villanova are a good team. they had me nervous down the stretch, that hilliard guy started nailing 3s left and right. NC State, well they love to pull off the upset and they play great team ball, everyone does something well and has a role. Villanova was a #1 seed for a reason, wont argue that, but last night NC State was the better team...
