  2. Wow.....that's an interesting attitude....seems to me that the water's a little hard in Canada between November and May anyway. How do you keep from catching Bass through the ice. I, personally prefer not to fish for bedding bass but that stems from not liking to be disturbed when it was my turn to mate. After the advent of Catch and Release, most fish remain in their environment anyway so adding one more predator, during the spawn, hasn't seemed to hurt the population. On a personal note, when I fish with my family and friends, we often catch mixed bags(figuratively) of fish from 5" to 5lb. Just like when we go to Memphremagog or northern Champlain. Perhaps you should stick around on our board for a while and get a feel for what we really catch in the Northeast. Welcome aboard lmbfisherman Grampa

  3. With all the lips getting ripped around here, I figure we should have a place to share shots of our catches regularly. Took a cool pic of my catch of the day today so I'll start She was pretty... And not a fan of Sesame Street apparently

  5. Opinions are like a**holes, everyone has one. Look at the scientific evidence between both sides of the argument. You can find plenty of scientific studies online. Then you can form your own opinion. There seems to be plenty of 3 lb plus largemouth in the places I fish in New England including an occasional 7 or 8 lb lunker. The average fish is around 2 - 2 1/4 lbs, I will take those all day.

  7. Exactly 4lbs - 21" caught on a T-Rigged Rage craw, it was actually pretty interesting! I made a cast maybe 15 yards in front of a beaver that was swimming around (there was a nice weed bed) and right when I set the hook the beaver was almost on my line and did one of their big SLAPS! Then the fish starts making some pretty acrobatic moves as well, it was pretty chaotic lol... I also got a few guys on the big live target field mouse.

  15. Be sure to compare IPT (Inches Per Turn of the handle) as some higher ratios do not increase IPT as one would be led to believe. The most meaningful reel ratio/IPT application is a lower one for deep cranks and other high resistance lures. Burner reels are more a preference over standard (6.x:1) gear ratios. Personally, I like high speed reels for taking up slack quickly should a fish pick up a jig etc. and swim toward me.

  17. Why do people do it, falsify the weight of their fish? I don't really care, just don't do it around me because I'll call you out every time!

  18. That's what it costs through G Loomis for warranty replacement. That's why I buy my Loomis rods from American Legacy Fishing. You get to keep your $100.00 in your pocket. Gotta LOVE that kind of warranty. Hootie

  22. Just wanted to show my newest gear, this is gear that I have upgraded too! Finally was able to buy some really good gear that ill be able to use for a long time, with proper technique and care of course! From top to bottom: Dobyns Champion 734c w/ Pinnacle Optimus XiHS 7.3:1 Suffix 832 40#- I use this for just about anything from square bills, worming, and some frogging, buzzbait chatter bait, big worms on lighter trigs or even weightless big worms 7'1 Duckett White Ice Heavy Byron Velvick Model w/ Lews Tournament Pro 6.4:1 PP 50#- I actually use this for Flippin n Pitchin and some Punchin, I fish in Florida from the bank so a shorter rod helps me actually to flip and pitch my heavy stuff. Also for heavier worming trigs and crigs. 7'1 MF St. Croix LTB Pflueger Patriarch 7.9:1 Invisx 12# Floro- This is a super versatile rod I can do light reaction baits, spinnerbaits squarebills and my main purpose is finesse and lightweight worming! I love these rods and reels and as you can see im not picky or loyal to a brand whatever I can get thats quality is alright with me!

  28. Hey guys I have a question we have this pond in our yard we recently stocked with bass. Before it only had bluegill and 2 male catfish. We put 20-25 bass in it a few months ago does this seem like to many? Should I catch some out? Here is a picture, its not a very big pond its pretty small. Its about the size of a neighborhood house's small front lawn Id like for it to be healthy and not crowded, Where the bass will grow and not get stuck at a pound or so...

  29. 24" On the Spro BBZ-1 Jr. 6" And a very confused, aggressive, and lost trout on a KVD 1.0...He had to have been washed down 10+miles and over a 12' dam during a flood about a month ago.

  31. Good info right there , there is a lot of cover in the lake close to the dam , lots and lots of lay downs , good rip rap at the dam , one point in particular about the middle of the lake , I have not topo'd the lake yet , this is an interesting quest !!Since the water is stained , baits that make noise or vibration baits , Jigs , black and blue with rattle tabs , I personally like dark baits for dark waters ,1/2 oz to start , medium size trailers on the jig , a little bulk to help with the sight of the bait , spinners with Colorado blades will give good vibes for them to target , willow leaf will give off flash but not a lot of vibes , if all you have is silver willow leaf blades , run them as close to the surface as possible to reflect as much sunlight as possible , especially on windy days with the spinner baits , crank baits really need to make contact with the cover or structure your fishing , use cranks with rattles , you can fish the lay downs with square bill cranks , a little slow mind you since the water is deeply stained , you want the fish to have time to find the bait but not enough time to decide if the bait is real or not , a little time to experiment with speed , make sure your patience is in check , the rip rap along the dam would be excellent to bump a jig around or a crank bait or a spinner bait , make sure you and your boat are Parallel to the bank , it's important to look for the breaks along the rip rap , as in look for the changes where the rocks end under the water and you have a few scattered boulders or rock piles , fish these areas methodically , take your time , again , since the water is stained , the fish need a little time to find and hone in on it's target . Hope this helps !! Good luck and be safe !!!

  34. Oh ya almost forgot! Don't forget to try the good old square bill!! KVD 1.5 in chartreuse/black back!Edit: seriously though, I haven't been to a bass fishery yet where square bills won't work, bump and bang them off cover for the best results but they can work with just a straight retrieve in more open water to if the bass don't care.

  35. There are several pure walking hollow bodies - z walker? and the fish arrow jack are two that are simple to walk - trimming legs and such will make many frogs easier to walk - I use a hopping - pull - pause at different speeds - most of the time it is more effective than walking - not always but most of the time it works better for me. You gotta love frog fishing - so many frogs - so many retrieves - so much fun - invent your own retrieve - and don't forget to set the hook.

  36. Fished a tournament on Sunday at Whitehall Reservoir in Mass, and it was a real tough day of fishing with lots of sun, high temps, not much wind, and more boats per acre than ive ever seen. I only managed 3 keepers, and the heaviest 5-fish limit of the tourney was only 7-14. P.S. nice fish NEJitterbuger!

  37. You set the hook, then reeled in slack to set it again. You've already identified the problem. If you set the hook and allow any slack, chances are that the fish will come off. There's no need to set it again for any reason. Set it once, keep the line tight, and start bringing them in.

  38. to be able to do a second hook set it usually means you have slack in the system somewhere which means lost fish. I would also agree with everyone else....treble baits don't need a hero hook set. Also the difference between a 6.4:1 and a 7.1:1 you are talking about 3" per turn which is not much at all. A faster ratio reel wouldn't have helped you in my opinion

  39. Dude, make better hooksets ! I' ve caught thousands of fish with reels much slower than yours.

  40. It's sunrise for me. Something has to mark the start of the day, and I can't think of a better way than to watch the sky go from black to that first shade of pink when the big fireball gets ready for another trek across the sky. A summer morning around here often starts as the coolest part of the day and usually has the lightest winds. The drunks and their speedboats or jet skis are still sleeping off the night before, and about the only noise you'll hear is the call of a loon or the honking of the local goose population. It's a great time for a little topwater action on the flats before heading to deep water.
