  1. This year I caught my PB. It was larger than any lmb I ever really expected to catch in NY. I have pretty much solely been fishing for LMB the last 2 years. I fish because it's relaxing but I also give myself a goal, to catch the biggest fish of whatever species I am targeting. After catching this hog, fishing for lmb just doesn't seem the same. I feel like I have peaked. So I decided I am finally going to start targeting other species, mainly trout and small mouth bass neither which I have ever caught. Lucky for me I have multiple creeks within a couple miles of my house that are stocked with browns and have smallies as well. So I just wanted to give a huge thanks to everyone who have replied to my posts furthering my fishing ventures and introducing me to SWIMBAITS! My largemouth addiction is finally over, now time to splurge on light tackle and maybe a fly rod.

  3. This was an interesting read. It seems clear that some take the perspective of "who cares what others do, doesn't effect me" while others including myself honor the weight system and appreciate the accomplishment of a good bass and it's honest depiction. Who is to tell me one way is better than the other??? Congratulations for being at peace for not caring if others lie about their weights and are unaffected by preposterous claims. That is your stance, not right or wrong. Just don't criticize others for enjoying the alternative side of bass fishing where weights do matter, calling out false weights is permitted, and the fun competition of monitoring fish weights and obtaining the rarely attainable giant in that body of water is enjoyed. Both perspectives are fine; i just get slightly annoyed by the potentially high and mighty responses implying that people should not worry about what others purport. That is your opinion, but don't criticize others for not having it, it does not mean you have achieved a level of maturity that other's do not have in fishing. Different things drive people in bass fishing; don't put a superior moral value to your stance.

  4. How do these threads start again? I'm am actually pretty curious how much this fish weighed. You know, I have a scale, and a golden rule. But this fish didn't make it to either of those things, because this fish was bleeding pretty bad. Anyhow, I thought I'd make this thread to get a chuckle- and to show off a pretty nice bass anyway. My guess is somewhere between 1/2-10 pounds but I could be wrong. Do you guys think that fish wanted that popper or not? I'm not really sure. Anyway. It was fun. Throw popper by solitary log. Pop-pop-pop-pause. Look away to talk to my buddy. Look back- giant swirl, delayed hookset (on purpose of course) and some stripped drag later and there she was.

  6. Hey all, Anthony Gooch here from San Diego, California. I'm still new to the forums. I've been on the site here and there for quite awhile but had never been on the forums before. I just wanted to take a minute to touch on a new lure that has been an excellent addition to my arsenal this season before I recap on what has been a very productive year for me thus far. I picked up the new Megabass I-slide185 a few weeks back, and it has been a BIG fish producer for me the past few outings. I've stuck a few solid fish up to 10lbs on it, and have lost a few others that were even larger. I hope to get back out soon and land another DD on it when I find the time! This bait has an awesome slow S action on it, like a lot of the other high end glide baits, but the price is great retailing around $60. It's sold out pretty much everywhere I've been looking lately, but you can still find a few here and there on eBay and Amazon. The real kicker is that you can make this bait do a perfect 360 during the retrieve! Definitely one of the first baits I've seen to perfect that action, especially for under $100. If you don't take my word for it, check out this youtube video that demonstrates it's 360 ability at 1:10 into the video. Here are a couple of the bass that have fallen victim to this bait on a couple of my outings the past month! Abu Garcia Volatile 8' MH/ Abu Garcia Revo Toro Nacl60/ Megabass ISlide185 fish/ 20lb PLine CXX Overall 2014 has been a great season for me so far, and hopefully I'm just getting started! Here are a couple more of the larger fish I've managed to land. The goofy picture that looks like I'm yelling is my new PB of 13lbs that I landed on April 19th. It was caught on my NRX dropshot/Shimano Stradic CI4 setup! and needless to say, I was a little stoked! ...I'm hoping I will get a chance to one up that PB before the season is over... but regardless; I am more than pleased with my success this year. Never quit chasing the fish you love. Tight lines everyone!!! 7. Ok guys just a testimonial on happy I was with Mike and his company,'went to Kentucky Lake this past Late Monday Tuesday and Wednesday. Made an order with Mike, Saturday and realized I needed or another words wanted his jigs Monday. I messaged him a few times back and forth and had him send em express to the place I was staying I just had to have them! So happy I got em and will always do business with him. He just received a loyal customer, we slapped wore em out ledge fishing Tuesday 35-40 fish in one spot a averaging 2 pounds or more... Here's one I caught on his junebug jig...

  9. Try using a bait with no salt and monofilament for your leader. A bite will feel like a pencil tapping on the end of your line, try to stay alert when using a Carolina rig because its easy to miss a strike.

  10. I'll play. I'm guessing 4.5 to 5lbs. Nice bass on topwater. I love it when they hit when you are distracted & not watching the bait.

  11. I stopped adding dressed trebles to the back of all sizes of spooks because of the loss of action. There were only two advantages to having a feathered treble on the back. One, of course was the added tail action at rest, the other was also the disadvantage of the added drag. It allows you to work the lure in a small zone for a long time, but it hinders forward movement . If I add anything to the rear treble now, its a little flash-a-boo or tinsle and little is the operative word. This material doesn't breathe like beathers do, but seems to draw some added attention from hesitant fish. Two changes that will have a positive effect are adding a red treble to the front and a split ring to the line tie. Topwater baits are the only ones that benefit from the addition of red hooks, and the split ring makes the lre that much easier to walk. Oh yea, on models that don't have split rings on the hook hanger, add one.

  13. I am following this thread and I gotta say I'm amazed that this subject matter is such a hot topic....Lets face it , in every walk of life, whether at work or play ,polotics or science, people are truthful, people exaggerate, and some people flat out lie.....So you are surprised that SOME have bass that strangely enlarge themself.....I can't help but wonder why anyone would waste so much energy belaboring the accurate weight of anothers bass........I stopped weighing my bass catches so they can be estimated as I see fit. A lot easier that way.I don't post the pics either.

  14. I never understood this phenomena. I've, more times that I like to admit, forgotten that the flipping switch was engaged and my spool and bait came to an abrupt stop when the clutch reengaged. The times the bait has gone flying was due to the knot coming untied and not line failure. I've had a lot of knots come untied with braid in the past but I have rarely experienced true line failure. I wouldn't write off this behavior as "just the way braid is" yet. A uni with a couple of wraps around the hook eye and 10 - 15 wraps in the knot is the best braid knot I have found.

  15. Just wanted to close the thread by letting you know that the kids lost a best 2 of 3 playoff series tonight. The series went 3 games with all 3 games being close thrillers. Tonight we lost in the last inning 4-3. The last 4 or so regular season games and playoffs were incredible. The kids were coming to the field more excited to play and this playoff series had them believing in themselves. We, my 2 coaches and I, have gotten some really nice feedback from the other coaches, league board members and most importanly, the parents. I could not be more proud of these kids...Mission accomplished.

  19. I know many of us were raised to be on the water when the sun comes up and we also were told that sundown was an ideal time to be on the water. I'm lucky to have the option to take advantage of both of these prime times on the same day as I no longer am limited by that nasty four letter word. I know, however, that not everyone has that fortune and was wondering which you prefer and why. Personally, I am partial to sundown. If I could only be on the water for one hour a day, it would be half an hour to either side of it. My reasoning is simple. First and foremost, I don't have to get up early (yes, I'm an old fart that doesn't get up early.....go figure). What's more important to me is the fact that aside from my PB largemouth, I've caught more lunkers as the sun was going down than at any other time of day and I'm not limiting that fact to one species. Bass, pike, walleye, musky, even crappie; it just seems to me that sundown gets the big ones active.

  20. I don't take the chance to fish for smallies as often as I should. Most of the time I have is spent on LMB. Today I had a couple hours and went down on the Snake River. Threw a Fat Ika of all things on straight braided line and a barbless hook into a 30 mph wind. She must have hit it on the initial fall. I thoght it was a snag as I started reeling it in facing the wind. She came in at just over 4 pounds.

  21. Sanuks all day every day! Everyone knows about those slipper looking things that Crocs makes, well Sanuk is the original. I've had mine about two years no and they're still going strong... well besides for a pretty funky odor. I mean these things STINK. They're super comfortable though. The sole is made of the same stuff that yoga mats and beer koozies are made of. They're marketed towards the beach/hippy crowd, but lately I've seen a bunch of pros on TV wearing them, including Casey Martin and Larry Nixon. I've also seen them in Bass Pro and Sportsmans Warehouse. http://www.sanuk.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-SANUK-US-Site/default/Default-Start?source=ggl_ppc&bcd=sVB0t7wNn&pcrid=41378638137&pkw=sanuk&pmt=e&pdv=t&gclid=CjgKEAjwzcWcBRCat43fy9e5i3ASJADXOBwuMQi6RXo8y-xuGS08pDaRXXbGQOVojvfj-3OpoE2fX_D_BwE

  24. Really any standard SOT kayak seat will fit in there. I have a Surf to Summit seat in my kayak, cant say enough good things about the seat. Its very comfortable with good support where it needs to be. I usually sit on a boat cushion though, not because of the seat but because I am a few inches higher then, it does make a difference fishing.

  26. I use Abu Ambassadeur 2500C and 1500C's from the early 90's remakes to original 70's models. I use older Loomis Kokonee trolling rods and the new Cast Away Mod light wading rods. I guess maybe 1/8th oz pins minnows, spoons or crappie jigs might not be ultra light to many but it is to me, especially with 4lb or 2lb mono when the target is tarpon up to 10lb.s. A lot of fun

  27. Grab a long pole (no reel), try carp fishing like they do in Europe. You'll be back to bass fishing in no time Awesome fish, though, seriously. That would push me on to fish for yet another lunker. There's always a bigger one out there for ya to catch.

  37. Just to add, if you are going to add weight, it ruins the natural way the senko slowly sinks. Bass will sit facing into the current waiting for food to come to them. The senko seems perfect for this presentation just as it comes from the package. The weight of the bait will get it down on its own. You will also hang up a lot less with no added weight. You should consider pinching down the barb when fishing senkos in a river. They will swallow the bait quite often and the barbless hook will come easily and do the fish less harm.

  38. The senko is a fantastic river bait! I fish rivers a lot and I'll use it more than anything else. A floating line like braid is a must for the way I fish them. Throw it upstream and let it drift down with the current. Keep reeling until there is a small amount of slack line. The floating line will lay on the surface and move with the current . When a bass picks up the bait, you'll see the line twitch on the surface, reel up, and set the hook. Don't cast downstream and pull back against the current. It will just stay on top. Don't use any weights, just let it drift. When it drifts down to your position, reel in and cast back up stream. In summer, just be sure to use it where there is current, especially along current breaks.

  39. Did Moose Pond yesterday for the first time 19 total. It was nice to read a lake and have it produce. Would have been nice to see the whole of Shawnee Peak ski mountian but the low clouds stayed with us the whole day. Now my favorite local lake Great East for Sunday. Done almost 600 miles of towing my boat in 7 days all in the name of bass fishing. Forgot to say I caught them on black with blue jigs, wacky worms in pumpkinseed/blue specks, black/neon. Missilebait craw jigs brown/red sparkle. Chatter baits white with a white zminnow attached. It was cloudy/ rain all the time and water temps were 67-71 on different parts of the lake.

  42. Lake Ida has a ton of jet skis and they can be very active in the afternoons. I live within 10 minutes but it's a place I hardly ever fish, just don't care for it. When it comes to bass I have done much better fishing the canals. I've been fishing the Delray/Boca/Boynton area for 10 years. When it comes to LMB I'm finding it's in the summer doldrums around here, but there is a good bite going on for other species.

  43. Glen I have to respectfuly disagree with you. Here is why. If you set out to do something difficult and you succeed then you have accomplished something. If it was easy and most everybody could do it then its not really an accomplishment. If what you did can only be done by a small percentage then your most likely proud of that accomplishment. Now lets apply that to bass fishing. Only a small percentage of guys have actually caught a 10+ pound bass. Even fewer with a 12 pounder and there are not many who have ever caught a 15+. The guys that have done these things know they accomplished something when they did it. So when tons of guys post pictures of 6-8pound bass claiming they are 10 pounders its an insult to the guys who have caught legit trophy bass. When guys lie about it, it diminishes the accomplishment. You say its your pet peeve when guys call them out, well its my pet peeve when guys claims a fish is much bigger then it is. Now I agree with you if the picture in question looks close or is reasonable. After all most of us get excited when we catch a good fish and tend to over estimate the weight. But when its obviously exaggerated I think they should get "educated". I think there is a balance. Some should get called out when its obvious, and when its reasonable then let them have their 15 minutes of fame.
