  1. Happy Memorial Day Everybody. Thank you for the day off from work. Thank you for the bbqs and cookouts. Thank you for making my lake a popular spot. Thank you string bikinis and young ladies on boats. Thank you for answering Gods call to serve. Thank you for putting your self through Hell in boot camp. Thank you for sacificing your time, talents and other dreams to serve. Thank you for going into the scariest situations ready and willing to lay down your life. Thank you for this selfless life changing sacrifice that you won't be appreciated for by everyone. And while we are here enjoying this day meant for you, some of you haven't made it home yet, some of you will never make it home, and some of you are home but will not ever be the same. Service to our country comes at a cost, thank you all that served for ignoring that cost, and giving the United States of America your best. Teal

  7. Man what a trip I plan on taking the Baccarac trip with my girlfriend, by then she will be my wife, in the next 2 years... I am putting it off mainly for the fact that I want to stick my own double digit bass here in FL, or GA when I visit my buddy's honey hole, before I have a field day in Mexico! Plan on going once with her and then another trip when our 2yr old son gets older, can't wait for that have a little family fish off lol

  11. I hate the feeling of dried cork or eva foam. Its like it sucks the moisture out of my hands, add handling fish in the mix and the end of the day it feels like a need a quart of 5w40 to get my hands back to normal. 1: cork sealer, if it will seal it on its on great if not it might protect it from the next step 2; hockey tape Thoughts on that system? I also have a rod the knurling on the reel seat eats up the inside of my pointer finger. I love that rod but Im strongly considering adding a piece of self vulcanizing tape to that area.

  12. i have a 6' medium fast. a lot of my fishing is split between boat and bank fishing so it fits into tight areas with ease beating the banks as well as good in a boat. its caught 40 river smallies, 39 largies, a perch, and a pickerel so for this year and it has held up to everything.

  13. Let's see video or it never happened. Because honestly it's not possible with that reel. Heck it's not possibly with a lot of higher end reels.

  18. this rod is absolutely insane. i picked it up a month ago and it went straight to my top 3 rods. has the perfect tip to cast a 1-3oz lures a mile yet doesn't backlash, plenty of backbone, a longer handle for the perfect casting fulcrum point i wish all rods had and to boot it's as light as a feather. you'd swear you have a 7' rod in your hands. doubles as a nice A rig rod too. i'm about to pick up a 805cbrm for deep cranking and i can only hope it's half as nice.

  20. I went to Conesus this afternoon from 1pm to about 5pm, with the intention of "looking" at smallmouth since we had clear skies and calm winds...perfect for bed fishing........FOILED..... Muddy water and green slime mess. Couldn't get much going for size, but caught numbers, 20 or so small keepers of both green and brown up to about 2.5 lbs, fishing shaky heads, drop shot, and flick shakes around docks. I got off the bank and docks several times during the day fishing, both the inside and outside grass lines, and or some steep drops looking for better size, but it just wasn't happening, so I went to back to the bank/docks, hoping to eventually run into some better fish....never happened. I was due for a poor outing on Conesus, my last 6-8 trips there have been barn burners.....I realize 20 keeper bass in 4 hours is not "poor".............but I have high standards LOL.

  22. I'd recommend getting a Dobyns 806 IMO because it can throw what you're planning on and you'll want to throw bigger before you know it, so you'll have a rod that can do that also! I throw 2.0 oz 68 Hudds, 178 S-wavers and like stuff all the time on the 806 and it's sweet, and if I want to go to a 4.5 oz 8" Hudd or 8" Savage Gear Line Thru I do that also!!

  24. I really like the Dobyns Champion Swimbait rods. The 795ML would probably work well for what you're wanting it for. Best thing is, BTD has them 25% off right now. Can't beat that with a stick.

  25. Well, I understand your thinking, but my take is different. I wish I had the advice available here on BassResource when I was just getting serious about bass fishing. With advice from experienced fishermen I could have saved thousands of dollars over the years, My advice is to save your money and buy gear that will advance your game and last virtually forever.

  26. The small approx 2,000 acre lakes in SoCal get about 100 bass boats fishing tournaments every weekend year around, there are no secret spots. I will share a few spots with folks I know, rarely give away exact spots to stranger. Share what you know about techniques, presentations, depth, angles, lures, colors, not exact locations, few anglers would expect that information. If someone is watching you catch fish, then they know where you are fishing. If a father is fishing with their kids, then go out of your your way to help them, if they are interested. Most tournament anglers always ask, rarely share what they are doing to catch fish when on the water, answer accordingly. Tom

  27. did you backlash? Try pulling pretty hard on each side of the knot to see if it will pop untied. Sometimes those turn out to be loops style knots that can easily be pulled out.

  29. There is a place near me that is heavily pressured and I hadn't had so much as a nibble whenever I went. Soon after discovering this site I decided to try some senkos out there. After pulling in three 5 lbers a guy came over to ask me what I was using. He told me he didn't know there were fish that big in the lake to which I responded that I didn't know there were fish in the lake.

  31. The lakes have finally warmed up to the point where the smallmouths are getting active. Paul and I got a few big girls in the last couple of days and yesterday the numbers jumped up significantly. After days of getting 10 to 30 smallies between us, on Saturday, we had 150. Paul even got 2 on the same cast. This fish was only 18 inches, but had more girth than any fish I've ever caught. Ho-hum, another 18 incher. The numbers of bass we are catching today is just crazy. They are schooled up at each spot we stop. We may get 5 or 6, or we got as many as 40 on a spot. We even get them two at a time. Suspending jerkbaits are getting nearly all the fish. Smaller ones outproduce by a very wide margin. Today, I got 2 on the same jerkbait.

  36. Working at a boat landing as a teen part of my job was showing new anglers how to rig their tackle and what to use and where to use it. What you learn is some folks need and seek help, others avoid it. If someone ask or shows an interest, then volunteer your help. Unsolicited advice is often taken wrong and can create animosity. Tom

  37. Maybe some of you misunderstood me. I DID find them, I took the time to fish every part of a lake and found certain areas that are more active than other areas. Not once did I imply no one else fishes there but me, but I can see how my wording might of confused some of you. In my mind those are my prime spots I found them and I wont just tell every passerby to go fish them because they aren't catching jack diddly..... Edit: If everyone knew about them and fished there all the time they wouldn't be prime spots now would they? Or do you guys really believe Honey Holes don't exist and are just a figment of one's imagination?

  38. This is kind of one of those deals where you have to know your audience. If I see a guy struggling, and pass by within talking distance, I will ask him how he is doing, if he is not doing well I might suggest a bait, or even throw a plastic to him and let him know that I have been doing well using it. If I pass a guy in a 70K boat decked out and ask how he is doing and he says not well, I will usually just say that I have been having luck with t-rigged plastics or whatever the case may be. If he asks for more information I give it, if not I let it be. What you want to accomplish is being helpful not come off like a know it all and it can be a fine line.

  41. K, so I got out yesterday morning for a few hours, and managed to catch 13 bass, and about 45 thousand pickerel. All my bass, except a couple tiny skaters, were what I call slot fish. All between 16"-18", so nothing impressive. Most of the fish I caught, were back out in the staging areas, even though the spawn has most definitely been on. Saw lots of beds, but no fish on them. Baits that were good to me yesterday, were a Black/Blue Rage Grub on a drop shot while the clouds were in early. Watermelon Red Cut'R Worm on a drop shot after the sun came out. jig/Rage Craw in Green Pumpkin, and my biggest came on one of Big O's swimbaits. Getting my plan together for the day, but I'm hoping to be on the water in a couple hours.

  42. Catt is right, there may be some fishing spots better than others but it's a pretty safe bet you didn't discover them. I can't possible be at the same fishing location 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, nor do I even want to, I see no harm in being helpful. I read these statements about honey holes on all kinds of fishing forums, if you have honey hole then you don't mine. I do have to draw the line at places that give me permission, I don't want to compromise my welcome. Not singling anyone out as I mentioned these honey hole statements are on every forum, the peeps with secret spots usually are not the senior citizens.

  43. This is what I do. But I'm very focused when I do it. If the fish is still shaking its head, I'll loop it around again until its laying flat out. I've handled a lot of fish so I'm pretty confident. (Papajoe does this fit your Superstitions question? ) If the fish has multiple sets in, often with mouth pinned closed, I'll belly lift. It works very well. But .. and this is true with all fish handling, you have to beware of the fish giving an unexpected kick. After handling fish a while you get a sense for when they are uncomfortable, jazzed up, and what prods them to react. A fish with a face full of hooks I'll often keep in the water a bit longer until it stops fighting all together. Once laying out prone I'll belly lift. After I've freed one set, I then switch to the more secure lip grip. Another option that works surprisingly well is going barbless. Here's why I started looking into this option: This fish is a common sight in some public waters I've fished. That fish will likely lose it's maxillary and premaxillary on that side. Like this fish has: I found going barbless works just fine. I don't lose fish. However, I don't do this with just any lure. Works fine with soft plastics with light weights, and with most free-swinging trebles. I don't go barbless with jigs; The barb is necessary there. I don't go barbless with lipless cranks either -their compact weight seems easier for bass to throw. But other cranks and topwaters, I don't know I'm barbless until I have the fish in hand, and the hooks just shake out. Very cool. There are also micro-barb hooks out there that work very well. But the big barbed trebles, I can't stomach anymore.

You can easily choose what pics you want to post from your gallery, or you can upload the pics to photobucket and copy and paste the IMG code. If the filesize is too big, you can resize the image in a free program like Paint.
