  2. If you have the time to spend then spend it fishing. Worst case you will not catch anything but you will still be fishing.

  3. Why not try it? I don't know if you'll catch anything, but you're guaranteed NOT to catch anything if you DON'T go! :-)

  4. The art of feeling a worm bite is a fine combination of watching your line & feeling for unnatural sensations of what your lure shouldn't feel like. Some times you will feel that ckassic "tap", some times you'll only see line movement, some times your line will simply go slack, but some times there will only be a feeling of heaviness that is almost like your lure will not move Feeling a worm or jig bite requires keeping a certain amount of tension on your line while at the same time keeping a certain amount of slackness in your line. To the average angler this makes no sense at all but to the worm/jig angler it makes total sense.

  5. Got out for three hours today. I got soaked in the rain but pulled in 6 fish. 4 large mouth and 2 pickerel all on a black blue swim jig with matching rage craw trailer. Not a bad day out on the water.

  15. I'm afraid I have to disagree. I seldom look at my Terrova unless I'm navigating through tight situations. Normally, I do what the cable steer guys do. i.e. I fish, and use the remote to correct the heading of the boat as necessary, without looking at which way the motor is pointing. Further, I no longer have to look at the remote to correct my heading. Like the cable steer guys, I now make heading corrections without conscious thought. If I set the motor to run a GPS heading, I can easily run for as long as five minutes without touching the remote. I'm not talking about offshore fishing here. I'm talking about fishing along the bank.

  16. Kind Response: My esteem for the Solunar Theory parallels that of a state lottery (benefiting from its intricate vagaries is highly elusive) Harsh Response: Man has proven himself unfit to manage his own affairs, like balancing the fiscal budget; and predicting tomorrow's weather. Why would this same buffoon fancy the notion that he's capable of timing natural events under the auspices of Mother Nature? Roger

  17. For the past several years I have been putting a lot of enjoyable things off, but this weekend it all comes to its positive conclusion. I have been working towards obtaining my 4 year degree in Cyber Security. That goal has been reached and I am walking the stage tomorrow afternoon. I was not planning on walking the stage but my mother and 16 year old daughter wanted me to and as usual they win. The feeling of accomplishment is outstanding, the odd part is now trying to figure out what to do with all the free time I now have. This year in an effort to improve myself in other manners I have lost 20 pounds and feel great. Now its time to take a break and determine next steps.

  19. Recently, i discovered an awesome spot that is usually empty. For a while i was having a lot of hang up in the rocks and not being able to get my lure back. But when i went to my local Bass Pro, a guy that works in the fishing department told me to go with braid because he fishes the same spot with braid and never has had a break off. Well he pointed me towards power pro and i felt that it couldn't hurt to try. Braid is a beautiful thing. I would usually get a break off in these heavy rocks. But the other day when i was fishing some tubes, i got hung up really bad. After 5 or 6 minutes of trying to get my tube back i almost cut the line. But i remember what the guy said and i continued to attempt to get my tube back. After a few more minutes i was finally able to get it back. The line and knot were in perfect shape but the tube jig hook was bent to all hell. I would have had a breakoff with any other line but braid has me conviced. Power pro 30 pound is a gift from the gods. It's sensitive too!

  28. In my experience, immediate conditions affect fish most. Large scale catch-all's miss the important smaller scale stuff. We all gravitate toward, look for, the easy and simple way out ... reminds me of the bubble headed girl selling some wonder health elixir at a local fair I met. She finished her perky spiel with a vacuous "It's simple! You know, nature's really simple when you get down to it", finishing with a cute, and emphatic, little shoulder twist. I had been politely half listening but I think my jaw dropped when she said that, and I could only respond, "No. No. It's not. It's very very very very ...complex." Does this mean that all measures taken of natural phenomenon are useless? No. The devil is in the details and that's where the complexity begins to show. But some measures are more useful than others –notably the stuff you said you weren’t asking about: “conditions”. Understanding them -combining knowledge and personal experience- ARE the shortcuts. In no time in history are there more "shortcuts" available than now. They won't include running your finger down a magic table, or having your phone beep, and tell you it's time to cast. Not meaning to sound short, but I guess I've jumped to the middle ground between Roger's kind and harsh responses.

  29. Several line companies have a Yellow superline. I use the Yellow Daiwa Samurai. The line I used before that was the Gold Stren Superbraid. I still have about 1000 yards of it. Under some lighting conditions even the Yellow is hard to see when wearing polarized glasses. I have some reels prepared for that using red softbait lure dye to have a contrasting pattern that is easier to see than a solid color. Works for me and the fish don't care. If you think a bass will run away from yellow, throw this combo near a smallmouth and it will just about take the rod away from you. A largemouth isn't scared of it either.

  30. Doug Hannon the late bass fishing guru has thousands of followers you believe his fishing charts based on solunar activity. The charts have been and continue to be published in several fishing magazines including Bassmaster called Astro tables. It's another factor to consider along with weather and the other animal activity you observe. I respect Hannon memory and his bass fishing skills. Tom

  31. There have been several studies done on the impact of lunar cycles, and there is data that suggests that more bigger fish are caught during certain moon phases. The theory is that feeding may be triggered by certain moon events, just like it can be triggered by a wide variety of other natural events. Does it impact fish? Sure. Does it's impact trump any other environmental factors? Doubtful. IMO: Lunar cycle is just ONE of the variables in our seemingly endless equation of fishing. Keep on calculating!

  32. The Albright knot is good for joining dissimilar diameters and is slim enough to cast well. As long as the lines are appropriate for the presentation you shouldn't have to worry about the difference in diameter at all.

  33. Here is the deal. Swimbaits are one of the tougher things to learn. Once you get it you can apply the same principals to the other baits you throw. You will become a better fisherman. People say they are not a numbers bait. I disagree. I have had many 20 plus fish days and its nice when they are all over 5 lbs. Most people have no clue the power swimbaits have. They give up way to soon. Google Bill Siemantle and Mike Long. These guys will put you on the fast track. Bluebasser gave some excellent advise. Don't buy crap. Spend the money and get proven baits. It is also cheaper to buy quality baits used. There are some good baits under $30 new. I would start out with baits that are in the 4-7in range. They will get bit more frequently and will build your confidence faster. I caution you, swimbaits are addictive and it gets expensive real fast. You asked where to throw them? Points, humps, ridges, creek channels and flats. They will also suspend over deep water on things like house boats, docks, buoys, floating crappers and such. These are some of the sweetest spots because no one fishes them. If you throw swimbaits in low percentage areas, its going to make for long days. Your question about speed and depth is a question with an answer that changes day to day, hour to hour. Generally slower is better but there are times you can't reel fast enough. Every bait is capable of certain things. You need to become intimate with your baits and know all there limitations. Most of my big fish have come in 10ft of water or less. Don't misunderstand what I am saying here. I may throw the bait into 50ft of water but they commit in 10ft or less 90% of the time. Fish up hill, pull your bait into structure and cover. Bass pin prey. Your bait coming with in inches of a small stick up can be the difference between getting bit and not. Wait until you have a fish beach itself trying to get your bait. You want to get good with swimbaits learn to convert followers. The key is to sell the illusion that your bait has compromised itself, is now vulnerable and trying to escape. Direction and speed changes are critical. Hope this helps I got to shove off to work.

  40. My son fished with me today so we did Mousam in ME. What a wonky day, there were some beds but the males are late making most of the beds and the females are cruising big time. Ended with 10 caught 5 a piece and now my son is hooked thanks to Dad and Ragetail craws rigged texas style pumpkin green was the color of choice for all his fish. Biggest was 2.1/2 The wind on the lake was enough to throw white caps I think most lakes will be having late spawns here.

  41. A-Jay: Some of it, MLF has given out to the public in past press releases and posts (other forums). The rest I know because I'm a close personal friend of one of the contestants. Obviously I can't give out exact (tiny) details as much of that is kept under (his) contract confidentiality, which I completely respect, but did want to give the general details of the basic arrangement for clarification (as I understand them). -T9

  42. There is no qualification system to get in. It is a "made for television" tournament show. The anglers are all basically part owners in the final product, as is the cable TV company (Outdoor Channel). Basically a 50/50 split as I understand it. No entry fees and no tournament winning payouts. Instead, it is a revenue sharing arrangement with the Outdoor Channel. Consider them all stockholders if you will. Each of the 24 put up their own money to help initially fund and create the venture. As such, no one is ever "eliminated" unless they choose to sell out their ownership stake in the company. Nobody has yet. The newest anglers you heard about (MLF Select) is their first attempt at bringing in some "new blood" to the group and slowly expanding. These guys were by invite only, and all had to pay a "buy-in" fee to accept the invite. They will not be replacing any of the original 24, but instead will actually be competing against themselves in groups for a chance to be added to the permanent line-up of guys as I understand it. A few will get in, most won't. They wil have their own televised tourney shows, though, as part of the deal, while they compete to advance for that chance. This will all be in addition to the regular scheduled events of the founding 24 MLF guys. -T9

  43. What I don't get? ..... How do you surmise,...to know, that these Alleged people have no license? Also.... That the catch is illegal ? The illegal ( alleged) catch.. Maybe easier to validate... But the no (alleged) license part... I really don't understand.
