  1. Late last night, actually about 8:15pm CST, I was in bed almost asleep (4:30am call for a 6am launch this morning) when my iPad lit up with an email from Glenn May. Glenn & Keri are original board members of Tackle The Storm Foundation, and good friends, so I picked up the iPad and read the email. Took awhile to get back to sleep. You see Glenn wrote that the road trip raffle raised $920 for Tackle The Storm. I want you to know, to get a REAL feeling for what that money will do…we are faced with having events for children in 4 states this summer. FOUR states. At each event we normally see about 200-300 kids. So you go on a road trip, you have some fun, catch some fish, have a bunch of laughs, put out some money for some prize things, no big deal. Except for us, it was a HUGE deal, and this is why, the money you put out for the raffle will buy enough rods and reels that we will be able to take care of one entire event with that cash. Here's the bottom line, YOU will have put back on the water THE YOUNG ANGLERS OF AN ENTIRE TOWN. Think about that…a website…a board…through the kindness of the members have put the magic wands of childhood in the hands of an entire neighborhood of children who fish and who have lost that ability due to a tornado. I am forever in your debt. Tackle The Storm is forever in your debt. Glenn said that he didn't want any thanks for this, but since I really only listen to Keri, I will publicly thank Glenn & Keri, for their heart, for their caring, their friendship, and the legacy they will leave in one small town in the South. To you who gave of your cash, you just made the biggest catch of your life…200 children…every cast they make…every fish they catch will be because of what you did, they could have left fishing altogether, and some might, but you gave them the opportunity to stay with it, and that should leave you speechless as you have changed lives. The storms, they will come for us. The Earth, will turn on us. Mother Nature, will slap us around. But when the wind stops, when the rain dries up and the clouds move away, one thing will be left standing, will always be there after the storms, and that is, the Kind in Man. You are proof of that. Thank You, db

  2. If I am being taken to a place that routinely produces 5lb bass, I will ride in the trunk of the car for 5 minutes if needed.

  3. Got a cell phone with a camera? Take pics of them, undersize fish, and license plate of their car and send to your state or county DNR office. Our state has a limit of 25 panfish per angler per day. On the big lakes, that kind of harvesting isn't anywhere near as devistating to the overall fish population as it is to smaller lakes or ponds. It's kind of like bed fishing for bass. It's legal, but I'd never catch and keep a bass off a bed. A short story that this relates to: The first time I went fishing with a neighbor and his father the first fish I caught was a 12in bass. After unhooking it, I gently released it to the outcries of his father. Injecting color into his comment, he informed me that any fish caught was to be kept. I promptly bent down the barbs on my hooks and didn't boat another fish that day. A month later his family was on the same lake I was fishing and I witnessed him keeping undersized fish. At the dock, I informed our local game warden and upon his return to the dock he was found with four undersize bass in his lunch bag. He knew the warden was at the lake that day! They confiscated his gear and his boat and he was fined and lost his fishing priveleges for the year. He got his boat and gear back and was arrested by the county cops three weeks later on the same lake for violation of that suspension. He no longer has a boat and refuses to go fishing with his sons. He blames the state for unfair regulations.

  12. I can't tell by your first post if any law is being broke. Are the fish under the length limit? Are they keeping too many? If no laws are being broken, then you should mind your own business. Believe it or not, some people do enjoy fishing and eating what they catch. Not everyone only fishes for sport.

  13. I do not believe it is wise to approach some one on fish that may or may not be legal... Let the professional agency's do that. Now that being said.... There is nothing wrong with fisherman keeping their legal catch for a fishfry... It's still a safer food than most grocery stores carry.

  15. Others have commented on the casting of the M/F I'll go into the retrieve of the M/F with jig. I went out and tried my 7'1" M/F *** with a 3/8 Jackall spade jig w/rage tail baby craw on it. It for sure loads well on cast but with this it loads just as much when retrieving. For me the tip was not strong enough to work jig efficiently through the weeds. The tip would load too much meaning I have to pull more to get the jig moving. So instead of popping the lure free it seemed more of a yank. This was with 20# braid on as well so the no stretch show the weakness in the rod. If you plan to use a stretchy line like fluoro or mono it would be even worse. So with braid M/F I would say is borderline, with fluoro no go get MH/F. No harm was done to any fish during the testing for this review

  17. My son fished with me today so we did Mousam in ME. What a wonky day, there were some beds but the males are late making most of the beds and the females are cruising big time. Ended with 10 caught 5 a piece and now my son is hooked thanks to Dad and Ragetail craws rigged texas style pumpkin green was the color of choice for all his fish. Biggest was 2.1/2 The wind on the lake was enough to throw white caps I think most lakes will be having late spawns here.

  19. A-Jay: Some of it, MLF has given out to the public in past press releases and posts (other forums). The rest I know because I'm a close personal friend of one of the contestants. Obviously I can't give out exact (tiny) details as much of that is kept under (his) contract confidentiality, which I completely respect, but did want to give the general details of the basic arrangement for clarification (as I understand them). -T9

  21. Twelve years ago my daughter was a training for competative Hunter- Jumper riding. We moved her horse to stables just outside of town. I drove her to her lessons and noticed a pond in the back portion of a very large pasture. It looked to be about 20 acres or so. I asked the owner for permission to fish the pond, which was fine by him. I asked if it was stocked and not being a fisherman he didn't know, but he had bought the property about ten years earlier and as far as he knew, it had NEVER BEEN FISHED! Huge and hungry. I do not believe these bass had EVER seen a Senko.

  23. I should add that it IS possible I had a couple of bad spools of line, and had I tried a couple of different spools, I may have had a completely different experience. My take on that is simple. For 50 bucks / 200 yards, there should be NO BAD SPOOLS OF LINE. I will buy no more Tatsu.

  24. Snook it is impossible to comment much on your post without crossing the political line. I will say that it is the natural progression of empires to turn their focus to their own pleasure and interests while forgetting/ignoring the fundamentals on which they were built, leading to their ultimate failure...

  34. WRB mentioned Buck Perry who was crowned 'The father of structure fishing' by a local publication. HIs findings and teachings became both the reason and the methods I used for bass fishing. I was so taken by his findings that I, to this day, choose where to begin my search for fish based solely on an areas relation to structure (never to be confused with cover in my mind). Sadly, Buck rarely mentioned the importantce of forage and forage movements in his teachings, but often times that part of the equation is just as, if not more, important in determining fish location and movements. Too bad the electronics we have available today weren't available forty years ago. Can you imagine how much more knowledge would be available to us today?

  36. I have a duplicate album by Ludwig Van, of the glorious 9th, somewhere. I believe I have some duplicates of a few of his other works as well. Im pretty sure I have a couple Mozart vinyls. Maybe a Chopin and a Bach that were given to me as gifts. I really don't care for the symphonies on them. I could contribute those possibly.

  39. what we mean is take for instance my lews 6.4: which is 28IPT and my shimano core 7.1:1 which is also 22IPT, but my lews 7.1:1 is 31IPT......so which GEAR RATIO IS BETTER??? Neither, as IPT is what matters when making an informed choice as to what reel to buy. and that is taking in account the math of half spooled and all that.

  40. The funniest was when I was by a ramp where we were entering the river to wade around a local area and there was a guy just leaving saying watch out the ramps slippery. Well my buddy being my buddy tells me I bet its not slippery, and right as he finished that he slipped and landed on his butt then slid down a few feet to the water as I walk around and avoid the ramp all together.
