  1. Again not me, but my son's. While I'm at work today He went with his mom to a small pond near the house, and he caught this pig. It stripped his drag on his little Spiderman combo so they are on the way to DSG to get a new combo. Man I'm getting out fished by a 3 year old using crappie jigs.

  2. Well it's different for everyone but it usually happens like this- You'll be cruising along on the internet all la-di-da looking at fishing gear when something special catches your eye and all of a sudden this happens to you... And then you collapse in a heap- even after you get up you can't stop thinking about that rod you saw, that amazing reel that is on FleaBay, that honeycomb spool and bearing kit for your reel, that full dress up kit & matching swept drag star & handle combo etc... You are overcome with lust for said item. You cannot go on. You must have it. In the end you can't take it... Nothing else will do. You NEED it. It could be as simple as terminal tackle or it could be a $50k bass boat. It doesn't matter, you are helpless against the powers of the bait monkey. What's that you say? It's too much? After a week of rationalizing with the bait monkey on your shoulder, this will be you... If it's a cure you must have though-, your only hope is the natural archnemesis of the bait monkey... The Wife: "You want to spend WHAT on a WHAT?!??" Using their razor sharp guiltalons and lightning fast reflexes, The Wife is the only thing that can fight off a bait monkey successfully. One steely look and they scurry back to the shadows because let's face it, you probably have other stuff you should be worrying about anyways haha

  3. bunch of 16 - 18 this morning, and 1 - 19 or so inch. fished Mill pond (to quote Shane --- salad bowl) in Nashua for a couple hours this morning , most of these guys i pulled out of the edge of the heavy weeds that is overcrowding this place. Its already pretty heavy and dense. Droppped weightless Rage tail to the edges and just let them fall.

  4. In PA, you have to declare where it was caught for it to be recognized. There is already controversy around the current state record and where it was caught (can't be a private pond). If I was going all-out for a record, I wouldn't want there to be any doubt surrounding it. You also more than likely have to kill the fish to have it certified. That's a big obstacle for me. Again, that being said, I would post the fish along with VALID photos that leave no question as to the weight of the fish. I don't care that the state recognizes it or not. If accepted as valid by my peers while keeping my location protected, that's all I'd really care about.

  6. I don't normally shop or purchase from Basspro, but we had a grand opening near me a couple of months ago, and I took the wife and kids. While there, my wife spotted a hooded dress that she really liked, so I filed the thought away for mother's day. I ordered the dress from Basspro * the middle of last week, giving them a week and a half to get it to me. Skip to last Weds, the tracking says delivered, but my stoop is empty..not good. I take a peek around my neighborhood, no dice. I email Basspro immediately, and tell them it was a mother's day gift, and I NEED it asap. Skip to Friday, fedex drops me a box off that afternoon..Basspro had overnight expressed my item, at no charge to me. I don't normally write rants or raves about companies, but this was spectacular, a solid show of customer service. Your thoughts?

  9. Those who know me know that I have a tremor condition. On my mistake days it can take me 15 minutes to tie a knot as simple as a Palomar. For that reason I use snaps on almost all of my gear. The fish don't seem to mind at all.

  10. I enjoy fishing with a companion and also enjoy fishing alone, but to answer your question: the best days of my life have occurred when I was fishing by myself. I would imagine that fishing alone allows me to be more selfishly focused. Roger

  12. What a day on the water. Fish were feeding like crazy. Probably caught around 50 bass between myself and a buddy. Caught six fish that weighed 5 plus with the largest tipping the scale at 7lbs 2oz.

  13. Some say it started back in Middle Earth: Glenn, Low_Budget_Hooker, Long Mike, RW and a few others were part of the Fellowship of the Bass; a small group on a quest to gather the timeless bass fishing wisdom of the elvish peoples...I do believe LBH may in fact be an elf. I could be wrong about some of this though. My memory isn't as good as it used to be.

  17. I have no intention of keeping the fish alive. She's had her last swim. I prefer a replica over the skin mount in both appearance and longevity. A-Jay

  18. I'm taking the fish, having the fish certified as the state record, and having the fish mounted - (a replica). As for any extra pressure this body of water may encounter after words, I'll deal with that as it comes. During most of the season, I do fish mostly at night so I'd imagine if I were to take that fish it would be at night. NO One, and I mean No One, fishes at night here - so the extra pressure may not even be a factor. Of course, I'll conveniently omit the night caught fact during the documentation process. Additionally, I'm getting old and sometimes I may get a little mixed up as to where I may have caught a fish. There are hundreds of lakes all over the place up here, and they all look alike. A-Jay

  23. Yes but the truth will set you free of pain. Hit the lake today and decided to upgrade my status. Won't make a smidgen of a difference but i enjoy this thread being immersed with pictures. Decided to hit my lake again today for the first time since my last posting. Usually don't get to make it out that much but had an opening and had to take it. The day was really frustrating for a long time. Got there by 7 and by 4 in the afternoon had nearly 30 bites and only landed 3. The three that were landed were all under 3 ish. Worst of all, i missed a giant while casting into weeds and yanking the jig out of the cover repetitively. I saw her come out and inhale it, had a great hook set, and my darn pork trailer impeded the hookset and wedged itself into the hook. The only draw back with pork. Verdict is still out if it is worth using pork, i don't care, gonna use it anyways. So, i finally switch to my sunfish green jig with none other than the rage craw trailer and persisted to get more bites with absolutely nothing at the other end of the line. After being anchored to a point prior to a cove, i continued to cast down the channel and slowly bring the jiggard up along the path while coming as close as i could to the weed line. After feeling the same stupid tap i had been feeling all day long with absolutely nothing alive at the other end, i set the hook for kicks and giggles for the umpteenth time and there was weight! Hallelujah. I was more surprised by that than anything else today. Needless to say, she was just shy of 7 pounds. Only biggun caught today, would have had a great double with the other missed fish, but woulda shoulda coulda is the name of the game. And look, i know my fish from this lake is small comparatively speaking but every lake has it's context. This is a true giant for this body of water. No need to do the math on this one, I decided to miss her a couple times with the net to add some suspense Finally get her in, roughly 23 inches Posing with her new jig in the mouth Pulling her out of the livewell, the eyes of an angel A bad pic here since i was by myself and failed to setup a good tripod shot. Decided not to get my whole self in the picture. Long distance pics are a no no, i thought i was closer than in reality. This fish's belly was nearly empty, Shimmy

  27. I don' t know what the hell is wrong with gas users, throughout eons men have hunted and grilled their kill over wood and charcoal, there is a philosophical and atavic comunion between men and the fire place, no way I' m going to change that, the caveman in me forbids me to, so, for me it's charcoal always.

  28. Put that Speed Spool on a 7'1" M/F *** Black and enjoy. The MH is too stiff for weightless flukes, light T-Rigs and 3/8 oz jigs without trailers (I know, because I have one).

  42. The new HMGs are suppose to be pretty good. OP: As stated, you need to give us more information on what you are looking for and price. Even when you say your budget limit is $150 some will be recommending $350-$450 rods. No sense in recommending a deep diving crankbait rod if all you fish is 8' deep max. Welcome to the forum.

  44. As a new member I suggest you go post in the introductions section as well as update your profile. Besides that I need to know your price range for this rod and also what type of crankbaits. For deep divers and lipless baits I use a dobyns 765cb glass rod. For medium divers I use a POS quantum kvd rod that I dont recommend. For shallow divers I use a fenwick hmg 6'6" medium. If I had the money I would use all dobyns crankbait rods. This may be out of your price range but the fenwick hmg is pretty cheap, granted I use the older model.

  47. In south Florida we are surrounded by small lakes and canals full of fish of all kinds. I fish at least 5 days a week. One day a week from the boat, usually in the glades. 4 or 5 days a week from the local lakes that are everywhere in my neighborhood. If I drive a 1/4 mile from my house, I have 4 lakes to choose from on any given day. The grass is always cut and trimmed around the lakes like a golf course. This makes for easy fishing. These lakes all have decent size fish in them. I usually choose a different lake each day. When fishing the local lakes its usually 2 or 3 hours in the afternoon. Great to live in South Florida.
