  1. A woman takes a lover home during the day while her husband is at work. Her 9-year old son comes home unexpectedly, he sees them and hides in the bedroom closet to watch. The woman's husband also comes home. She puts her lover in the closet, not realizing that the little boy is in there already. The little boy says, 'Dark in here.' The man says, 'Yes, it is.' Boy: 'I have a baseball.' Man:'That's nice' Boy: 'Want to buy it?' Man: 'No, thanks.' Boy: 'My Dad's outside.' Man: 'OK, how much?' Boy: '$250' In the next few weeks, it happens again that the boy and the lover are in the closet together. Boy: 'Dark in here.' Man: 'Yes, it is.' Boy: 'I have a baseball glove.' The lover, remembering the last time, asks the boy, How much?' Boy: '$750' Man: 'Sold.' A few days later, the Dad says to the boy , 'Grab your glove, let's go outside and have a game of catch.' The boy says, 'I can't, I sold my baseball and my glove.' The Dad asks, 'How much did you sell them for?' Boy: '$1,000' The Dad says, 'That's terrible to over charge your friends like that...that is way more than those two things cost. I'm taking you to church, to confession.' They go to the church and the Dad makes the little boy sit in the confessional booth and closes the door. The boy says, 'Dark in here..' The priest says, 'Don't start that **** again; you're in my closet now.'

  2. This will be my collective thread of 2014 fishing reports, videos and pictures. Thanks for looking. I fished the Wisconsin opener on 5/3/14. Despite battling a 100 degree fever and flu symptoms, we made it out and had a heck of a day on the water. It was windy (what else is new) and still on the cool side with about a 50 degree air temp. Water was consistently 48-50 between Saturday and Sunday. Water was slightly stained and weed growth was down considerably. The key to finding fish was the greenest vegetation in the main lake. We only caught a few off the shore line so most of our efforts were focused in the middle over the top of fresh green. Fish were still in prespawn and had landed a number of females full of eggs. On Saturday alone we boated over 35 fish with a few of them being pike and crappie but mostly all bass. My brother and I both landed fish just under 5lbs each . All in all, good fishing, good times and great to be out on the water again. My first fish came within the first 10 minutes on Saturday casting a KVD 1.5 in Bluegill on a Chronarch Ci4+ and a Dobyns 705cb glass. This was the first time using this setup as I had acquired it during the winter months. Man, what an amazing set up! The reel casts like a dream and is smooth as silk. The Dobyns glass rod is absolutely perfect for squarebills and shallow cranks. I don't believe I lost 1 fish the entire weekend on that rod and I even threw lipless cranks with it as well. By far one of my top 3 favorite rods that I own. I was also catching fish on a KVD J300 jerkbait in Ayu and Sexy Shad. I'm not a great hard jerkbait fisherman but had a ton of fun catching a few on that bait. The most productive/dominating bait of the weekend was the Siebert Outdoors Fogy (chatterbait) in Bluegill paired with a Green Pumpkin/Purple and Gold flake menace trailer with a coating of Megastrike. I was throwing this bait on my 7'1 MH/F Rage rod with a Ch 50e and Yo Zuri 12#. The bass were HAMMERING this bait. The bait comes through weeds really well and I was able to control my depth quite easily. There were a few spots of early sprouting lily pads under the surface that I would run the bait through and just get annihilated. It didn't take me long to forget about that flu I was carrying. I also played around with my Core 100mg7 and DX745 with a Siebert Dredge Jig in Fry color paired with a June bug Rage craw. Unfortunately, not a big jig bite for me this weekend and the only fish I picked up on it spit my hook on the first breach. The combo itself is magical and just fishing it I was in awe. I have quickly taking a very big liking to Dobyns rods just in one outing. This rod will be put to use a lot this year. GoPro users read this: Now for the bad.......... I had about 16-20 fish recorded on my GoPro for the entire day of Saturday. All was good until Sunday morning I went to start the camera only to get a "No SD" card reading. I was panicked so I checked my other card which was fine and batteries which all worked. Come to find out, the Scan Disk Micro SD XC1 64gb is known to fail in time, especially within a GoPro camera. Why GoPro promotes this card with so many recorded failures on the internet (i'm now aware of after reading extensively) is mind boggling to me. I have used this card for an entire season with no problems until this trip and now the card is toast. Expensive little card to just up and fail like it did. I will never buy that brand again and if you own one, please tread carefully when using yours. I lost a lot of great footage that I was really looking forward to compiling for everyone to watch. Thankfully my brother had his digital camera to at least get stills of most of the fish we caught.

  3. Went out today in my kayak and caught this beauty. Smashed a rage-rigged green pumpkin Rage Craw as I reeled it back to the kayak. She measured 18" and 3lbs exactly.

  4. This has been a stressful year, lost my job (right in the process of having our new house built), fortunate to have another one lined up, death in the family, tight finances during my job transition, school workload, and a few other difficult areas. My faith was vital in all of this, and I also attribute my calming to fishing. Things are set now. Thank God! Moved in new house, school is better, job going well. The times that were super tough, I just went on the water for hours, literally sometimes I just bounced a worm or a jig and it seemed like all was tranquil. Medical studies showed that fishing is a good way to relax. It taught me not only to be a better angler, it also made me more patient, and how to appreciate true down time. It was a rough year, but the uphill battle is over and now we look ahead to a better future. Joe

  5. If I followed the rules, this post should rightfully be listed in the Road Trip forum, but I wanted our general membership to know what a quality member we have among us. Pete-K committed to serve Bar-B-Que for our group of thirty early in the planning of the trip. Well, circumstances changed, and Pete was unable to attend the trip and fish with us. Undeterred, he stood by his promise. On Friday night, Pete and his wife Marilyn drove an hour and a half to the resort, served an absolutely delicious meal to thirty people, and then drove home again. Not counting the hours and hours of food preparation, Pete and Marilyn took at least twelve hours out of their lives just to serve a meal to a bunch of hungry fishermen/women. On behalf of all the lucky folks who were fortunate enough to eat that meal, you have our heart-felt thanks for "conduct above and beyond the call of duty." Thank you Pete and Marilyn!

  6. Nice to see MN already in the running. So i said i would post no matter what to warm up. I have no giants from the other day i went fishing but it was fun to fish a whole day and try my luck out in weird stormy weather. Decided to fish my main lake Beaverdam Reservoir, a.k.a. lake desolation. Luckily caught some and never missed any giants. Started the day off with catching them on 2.5 square bill and stuck my first larger fish of the day at 4.10. Then switched to the jig in an area with grass and caught my next fish going at 4.4. Was happy as a clam since i was not expecting much from today's outing with the weather being weird and plus, i thought i was going to get rained out so it felt nice to catch a fish after sitting in the truck for 2 hours waiting it out. Then after a few more fish caught a nice 5 pounder on the wiggly jiggly. It was a fun outing and i had already predetermined that whatever i caught, i was going to post for this thread to get a warm up. This may be the lowest score thus far...can we have a prize for that? Maybe send an angler a hat that says special on it or something? Anywho, this is a brutal reservoir and anyone that fishes it knows it is hard to catch a fish, let alone have a decent day. I count it as a win, 4.4 Jiggly 4.10 crank 5.2 Jiggly On the board, Shimmy

  7. I know the majority of my problems with FC are a result of the way I set the hook and the knots that I use, but I'm tired of having to think about what line I'm using when tying a knot let alone before I set the hook. I can count the number of fish I missed last week as a result of the line breaking, but it would take both hands and an extra digit. It even happened when I was casting a 3/4oz jig. I'll admit I did miss a couple of fish on long casts I'd made with mono, but at the very least, I got my lure back. My solution is to cut up the remainder of the two spools of FC that I have into little itty bitty pieces (therapy) before recycling and spool the majority of my reels with braid and a copolymer leader. I trust the extra knot more than I trust flourocarbon. Thanks for letting me vent. Like if you feel the same.

  8. That may be the best response yet! ACG, I said earlier in this thread that the us versus them model no longer works. You have done your best over the course of this discussion to prove me right. I will tell you what I told a couple of guys who used to work for me, after listening to them #*&^% for weeks every evening when I started my shift: If you are that unhappy with your job and this company then you need to find something else to do. They became two of the guys I could most depend on, even though they were both really angry at the time. Your continued trashing of the company that writes your checks is no more acceptable than others trashing all unions because of your example. You are either part of the solution or the problem. You can't have it both ways.

  12. Mike , if you will allow me i will throw my 2 cents in here. or as my dad would say His (lesson) or (info) or (bs) or (insert what is applicable ) #50814 (todays date) at 73 he still says this all the time. Couple things to think about , ponder etc. One thing you want to ask yourself anytime you go fish is what kind of fisherman am i today. For many people this is going to vary just as it does for me. For others maybe not so much. when i fish with my grandson (he is 9) this is all about fun for him, not about fishing for me. earth worms , sometimes bobbers , and lots of fish any type any size. when i fish with my 15 yr old, we still want to catch fish but keep it fun , pickerel , pike ,bass , white perch , black crappie dont need to catch as many fish but a few are needed and for us there is nothing wrong with big teeth. then there is fishing with the buddies , a cigar , and some bass , you want to catch fish , just not the smallest bass. cause that one buys the beer after type of thing then there are the alone and or a little more serious times with a buddy that fishes a little more serious than others -- nothing smaller than 3 lbs is what you are looking for a few 3 lbers is ok between you. and a 4 or 5 + is nice. then you get serious from there. Quality above quantity , slower , less fish or no fish ... hunting for 4+ and nothing but.-- it gets boring at times but you can usually end up with a fish or 2 many times not quite big enough but enough to keep you hunting for them. then you have the ones that are looking for nothing but ---- THE FISH --- Around here SOUTHERN NH or NH IN GENERAL the elusive 7+ --- many , most times this equals zero fish. also ask yourself what you consider good size? and good size for where you are fishing. there really is a lot of small water canoe fishing in Southern NH If you are hunting for THE FISH and nothing but then that can narrow your search. Most ponds have a big girl or 2 --- Nutts pond or Stevens pond in Manchester. Stump pond Amherst. You just have to put into perspective what you want . I love fishing the Nashua river, but ---- lots and lots and lots of water and hiding places for them. and a lot of time patience learning this place. Find a place you like and learn it. Maybe set goal to find the hiding spots in Melondy pond in Brookline. They are there, its not too big, easy to get to , and right now not completely grown in with weeds. Pick a section of it and fish it , get comfortable with what you are throwing and learn a few more things. and read here , lots of info , hints and helps. Rocky pond in Hollis also holds some nice 4lb + fish. super clean , and super quiet. above all have fun.

  14. I don't know a lot about tying knots connecting one type of line to another. But your improved clinch knot and palomar knot will work fine for tying line to lures. You don't need to know every knot in the book. Just one that gets the job done for each of your purposes.

  15. Did GreatEast today 19 between 9am-1pm then the wind hit and stopped the hits enough for white caps coming back on the big part of the lake. They were definitely cruising tight to the shore. the second basin has temps hitting 58 so I expect spawning to begin soon. Pumpkin seed senkos also same color ragetail on a swim jig were the winners today.

  18. If I can add what the current thread theme has been. I will break down a un known lake by zones, I will study a lake on google earth (tip the lower left is a time bar put the map back a couple years and some lakes actually show better pictures of what is under water ie rock piles, submerged points because they take the pics in the fall and most lakes are lowered.) I look for the obvious points, protected coves and inlets/rivers then is towards low water (floating grass, cat tails stumps) middle water 3-10 feet looking for stumps, submerged rocks or gravels piles. then its studying time with depth maps for ridge lines and channels that will hold staging bass for the change in weather patterns I will put about 10% into studying out of water 10% cruising the water and the rest just luck of the draw using past experiences to help me through. I was lucky enough to be part of a seminar put on by Hank Parker a long time ago and he put it this way " A big bass is like a big lion they don't go hunting they wait in the shadows and grab what comes to them they don't want to use any more energy then what is needed for the size of the bait. Hope this helps, I'm not a pro I'm just a guy who likes to fish for enjoyment now.

  25. 6.8 on watermelon Rage Cut-R -- two weeks ago I rarely target 'bigger' fish. Never a guaranteed limit on any waters I hit regularly and I'm happy just to catch fish -- I figure if I've honed in on what the 2-3 pounders are eating, I'll probably catch an occassional larger one -- maybe not necessarily true, but I want to believe it because I just like catching.

  27. Something to consider right here. There are many different types of chemicals that are used to preserve utility poles from insects, rot, fungi, and fires, some of the more common currently found in the United States are Creosote, CCA, and Penta. Coal-tar creosote has been used as a wood preservative in the U.S. for over 100 years. The creosote used in wood preservation is produced by the high temperature carbonization of coal and consists principally of aromatic hydrocarbons plus some tar acids and bases CCA, another type of preservative, is made up of the oxides or salts of copper, chromium, and arsenic. The arsenic and copper are toxic to insects and fungi that prey on wood. If needed, adding structure is usually beneficial. However introducing the above chemicals into a small pond may not be. A-Jay

  28. I would not put them in the water as they have creosote in them. Better off cutting some trees/logs down and seeting them.
    2 points
  29. Never have done poles, but if you have an opportunity, and they are not the creosoted, I would make sure there was room under them, and they do not move. Seems bass like to be under logs and trees that do not move! That creosote is not a good thing though. Jeff http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/phs/phs.asp?id=64&tid=18

  32. You bet ya! Very sorry for all of you that couldn't make it this year. We set an all time record for X-tra nice weather. The accomodations were excellent! I arrived at Double Head on Wednesday around 10 AM ahead of schedule and explored the country side and it is BEAUTIFUL! I finally caught up with Long Mike and checked in and un loaded around noon. Gary (ghoti) set up his amazing "wine & chesse soire" with gormet coldcut sandwiches with all the trimmings. Thank you Gary for another wonderful "Soire". Glen was also handing out the new Bass Resource hats and lots of goodies from the board sponsors. TOOO cool. Thursday, met with Bassin Chris and his lovely wife BeckieC and went to breakfast. Chris took me out on his boat and I had a great fishing day. Chris is fisherman and a gentleman. We caught some fish, told a lot of stories and had a great day. Thanks Chris! For dinner, Roadwarrior fired up his famous "Memphis-Burgers" with all the trimmings and it was AWESOME! RW arranged for a local pro to come share some fishing tips on his home lake. Crotchety old Long Mike kept shouting at everyone to "Get off the lawn!" A good time was had by all. Friday was a day to remeber. I got the privelige of going out with Steve (Big O). I don't know if I laghed as hard as I fished or fished as hard as I laughed. There's no way to describe a day on the water with Big-O, it's just something you have to experience. I think Jeremy caught the most bass, and Big O caught the most drum, but we all caught some bass and we all caught some drum. I can tell you that we all caught a lot of fun. Thanks Steve! We stayed out a little later than most and got back just in time to have a belly full of PeteK's amazing BBQ. This was a highlight of the trip. Special thanks to Pete & his sweet wife for working so hard to feed us some of the best BBQ ever! Saturday- After the 1000 mile trip and two long days on the lake, I got lazy and just 'vacationed' for the day. Wandered around the camp, took some pictures and an afternoon nap. I made some rice and heated up the gumbo apetizer for the catered evening meal and just vegged out. LOL The big banquet was great. We had some fried chicken and sides and had the big "Tackle the Storm Raffle". Good food, lots of wonderful prizes and some big bucks raised for the TTS charity. BTW, I won a "Rage Tail hat autographed by all the Strike King Pros in the raffle along with another boat load of baits. Sunday - Had breakfast with Glenn, Keri, Chris, Mike & MikeL. Chris took Glenn & I out for a 1/2 day. After 7 years of road trips this was the first time I fished with Glenn. We all caught a fish and good time and sadly had to pack it in for the long road home. I want to say thanks to all of the attendees and I won't try to name you all because my faulty memory will miss some one. As I packed ny car to drive home, all I could think about was how can it be over, we just got here. The time flew and we had a blast. Glenn & Keri deserve special thanks for all they do year round, but especially for Road Trip week. You two are the best! Long Mike carries a heavy load and always comes through for us on the trip. Great seeing Mike again! Steve (Big O) is a generous, larger than life character with a heart as big as Texas. Here's a few pics from my week. God Bless you all!

  33. AbuCroixGuy---- I don't want you to think I am passing judgement because I am not.... I am perhaps speaking more freely than I should. this event and whole timeline concerns me......if you are going to call this man "brother" then you MUST take it to him face to face.... I implore you, have a come to Jesus talk with the guy, let him know you are there for him and will help him, like a real brother does and will do for a guy. In my line of work, I just let the guy go and wash my hands. I understand unions are different (whether I agree or not) if you care about this man help him. It is obvious the man does not understand how his actions has destroyed his life. is it my opinion, this is your call to action....to help someone in dire need..... this is WAY past unions, jobs, ect this is human to human.

  34. En sorte Diaboli! There's more to being in a union and being a good brother than what's being expressed here. Don't judge us based on what one man has to say. And yes we do get paid more than non union workers. We are also expected to produce a higher quality of work than non union workers. I'm not saying non union contractors don't do good work. I'm just saying, there are differences.

  35. abucroixguy...........you are making the right choice. I wouldn't fish them if they weren't good or if I thought I could get something better for my money. how many jigs are you looking in each jig? if you get 3 sizes in 3 colors and 5 of each, you are looking at 45 jigs and at your budget. what exactly are you wanting? the dredge brush is kinda a do-all, so you might want to start there and branch out later. Personally I use all footballs, but that is a product of the water I fish

  43. Hi all. I'm a "newbie" to both this forum AND bass fishing. I didn't do a lot of fishing growing up but got hooked last year when my brother inlaw got a little boat and we found a nice little lake full of bass. We pretty much stuck to weightless texas rigged senkos all year and didn't find a reason to change....had a blast! Here's my question: I'm up in Minnesota so our bass don't get as big as down south, but I'm looking to upgrade a little so I'm not using the same rod/reel as when I was 15. I want to stick with a spinning reel but does anyone have any suggestions for a weekend warrior? rod, reel, type line and lb test..... thanks!! Jim

  45. Finally went out with my first casting rod and baitcaster combo (st croix lbt and daiwa tatula type r with 8lb fluoro all recommended buy you guys in my previous posts ). After watching a video on here on how to set and cast a baitcaster I went down to my local canal and pretty much picked up casting within 20-30 minutes . A few backlashes to begin with but as said it's all in the thumb baby aye. The more I cast the better I got . I was able to have the brakes on settings 2-4 and the tension spool knob set at a fairly fast drop and only using 1 jig and trailer combo to get used to it , I was absolutely blown away with the speed I am able to cast out and after retrieving cast it back out again . The distance I could achieve when I really punched it out there had me drooling at the mouth and the smoothness of the reel on the cast, feeling the line coming off the spool under the lightest hover of my thumb and the control of the lure before hitting the water to produce a quieter sound on entry was ridiculously sick . The enjoyment of reeling back in and not to mention the playing of fish was so much fun , It feels like I'm just in my element aye. To cut a long story short I missed 3 perch from 1lb to about 4lb and 2 jack pike from about 4-7lb and realised the cheap ebay jig heads I had purchased with eagle claw hooks wasnt really piercingly sharp enough, which I will correct but enjoyed it all anyway . I was determined to really drive the hook into the next bite that came along . My last cast as it had got dark and I felt a subtle vibi knock that I just ripped into, not sure if it was a bite or not and hey, what do you know fellas? An 11lb 2oz pike which gave a good account of itself slid over my awaiting landing net . It wasn't my European perch target but was more than welcome . (I was absolutely buzzing ). It's my first predator full stop and it was a shame the picture didn't come out too well but a picture all the same aye. How this type/style of reel is so rarely used over hear is down right moronic in my opinion and I'm not saying spinning reels don't have there place because obviously they do , but WOW . Ive just purchased a daiwa steez 100sha to go with a g loomis nrx jig and worm casting rod that I'm looking to purchase this week for my second combo and also eyeing up an abu garcia revo (mgx is it ???) to go with a frog/surface rod I'm also looking to purchase before the weed growth really kicks in aye. I would just like to say a big cheers aye to bass resources and it's members and all you guys for all the knowledge you have shared aye. Cheers aye, Elwood .

  47. I worked as a union member for many years. I have also worked in management in union shops and spent years working as a non-union original equipment rep in union shops. I know how the system works. Those of you who are drawing conclusions about unions based on this member, and this situation do so based on a snap-shot that does not illustrate all unions. This "brotherhood" has let this guy, the membership and the company down by allowing him to continue putting everyone at risk. I think we all can agree on that. The shots at unions and their membership do not belong here IMO.

  48. I can't speak for MN or WI, but here in Northern MI the "dog days of summer" are not the best times to catch big smallmouth bass. In Fact, it's probably the worst time for both size & numbers. Like most every where, the spring (like right now) and fall bites are the best. Though each season is a little different, the summer is rarely prime time for big brown bass no matter where you go. As for where would be good, several of the lakes in & around Alpena, MI are very good for smallmouth bass. As the Pro Anglers of Major League Fishing found out last fall when several 5's & 6's were caught during the competition. The locals have done a good job keeping that little secret for a long time, but the parties over. A-Jay
