  2. This has been a stressful year, lost my job (right in the process of having our new house built), fortunate to have another one lined up, death in the family, tight finances during my job transition, school workload, and a few other difficult areas. My faith was vital in all of this, and I also attribute my calming to fishing. Things are set now. Thank God! Moved in new house, school is better, job going well. The times that were super tough, I just went on the water for hours, literally sometimes I just bounced a worm or a jig and it seemed like all was tranquil. Medical studies showed that fishing is a good way to relax. It taught me not only to be a better angler, it also made me more patient, and how to appreciate true down time. It was a rough year, but the uphill battle is over and now we look ahead to a better future. Joe

  3. I broke my gen1 Cumara last fall and Shimano replaced it for me with a gen2. The rod I broke was a 6'3" m casting rod', a tiny little thing I used for poppers. The closest they have now is 6'8" M/F worm and jig rated to 1/4 ounce. This thing is LIGHT and the blank is THIN. I have been using it for a few weeks and all I can say is "WOW", sensitive doesn't even begin to describe it. I've been throwing a 5/16 swim jig and every little reed or branch I bump feels like a hit. So far I've used it for swim jigs, jerk baits and lipless cranks and it handles them all fine. Catching several 1-11/2 pound fish I got the feeling a bigger fish might be a load for this little rod. Today a few bigger fish finally moved shallow in my area and while tossing the swim jig I got a big swirl and a hit. 3-1/2 pound bass was no problem for the rod. Cumaras never cease to amaze me with how such light little rods can load up on a bigger fish. I think this rod may take the spinning rod out of my hands for fishing wacky worms this year. That's a few weeks away though

  4. Line numbers on a reel are just to show capacity, so no, there's no consequence other than that. I'd think twice about 14# mono on a spinning reel especially for novice angler. Consider 10, 15 or 20# braid. This is strong and eliminates coils and a lot of twist.

  5. Is it just me or does anyone else want to go back and do it all again???

  8. There is something amazing about that point you hit in fishing where it becomes more about the going than the catching.

  9. A man buys a lie detector robot that slaps people who lie. He decides to test it at dinner. Dad: Son, where were you today during school hours? Son: At school. The robot slaps the son. Son: Ok! I watched a DVD at my mates. Dad: Which one? Son: Kung Fu Panda. The robot slaps the son again. Son: Ok! It was a Porno. Dad: WHAT? When I was your age I didn’t even know what porn was! The robot slaps the Dad. Mom: Hahahahaha! After all he’s your son. The robot slaps the mom...

  11. I don't know about you, but on the lake I fish, one way to tell it's officially Springtime, is just look up at the trees. Man, the bobbers are in bloom. Orange and white blossoms everywhere I look. Hootie

  13. Funny title, I was just going to use it myself but vise versa. Spinning tackle has turned my fishing around this year. I might never go back to casting tackle.

  14. Well sir, you may be "good-to-go" , but I would rather throw rocks than fish with that stuff.

  19. I'm in the road trip and was paired today with Glen. It was an unbelievable experience. He taught me so much from fishing to boating in rough water. He is an incredible guy and we had great conversations. If u missed the road trip then u missed something special. Brandon.

  20. I've spent $3,000 to go on a one week fishing trip. $900 for a year's worth of good fishing on unpressured lakes is a good deal to me. It all depends on how much you can afford. If you played golf, a year's green fees is more than $900. If you were paying for a nice boat, your payments would be more than $900 a year. Some guys can only afford $50 rods, some guys $500 rods. If $900 is more than you can afford, fish the public lakes.

  24. 1. get invisx 2. use line conditioner, liberally while spooling...... then the night before you go out 3. improved clinch is fine. I use that know 100% of the time 4. try to get in the middle of the rod's line rating....... for a normal jig/worm rod it is 12-15# 5. post pictures of pigs on jigs!

  27. Keep this in mind. When fishing with Mono after pulling that line tight for a few hours (catching fish, pulling out of brush etc...) The line will stretch thin and your 17lb will gradually become weaker until you lose lures or fish. If your line takes a beating or a lot of work. Cut off 8-10ft. Re tie

  32. Take a look at 7'4" to 7'6" med/hvy pitching-light flipping rods, St. Croix, Dobyn's, Phenix all make good rods for this presentation that can also be used for frogs. Don't know what you budget is, check rods in your price range. Tom

  37. Im exactly the opposite. I live in an area with lots of public land to hunt but its not great. Less than a 1000 yards from my front door is a stocked stream that in the summertime holds smallmouth. Ten miles down the road I have a man made flood control impoundment that has mediocre bass fishing at the moment. A mile away, one of the best native trout streams in the state. 20 mins, a lake so full of flipping material you could flip all day and never hit it all. Decent smaller motor lakes within an hour... you get my point, endless fishing. My passion is split equal between turkey hunting, deer hunting and bass fishing. I guess I am blessed to do it all but id trade a little of the turkey hunting and a little of the bass fishing for a little more deer.

  39. Thanks again mac, for the fine day on the water, in your boat. I had a great time fishing with you, and I'd do it again, any time. And yes, I was whupped when I got home. Had a bite to eat, a small glass of wine, and went to sleep in my recilner; until my wife booted me out of the chair and into bed. Slept like a baby. (except I didn't suck my thumb and crap my pants)

  41. Stick Marsh is sick, anyone and I mean anyone can go out there and have a potential for a double digit, put in a week from Nov. thru March and if you don't have one your doing something wrong. 5 fish limit 25lbs, easy cheesy!

  42. SpeedCraw, Just because a bait is new doesn't mean it's hook or hooks are sharp. Every spinnerbait, or single hook bait I own gets the thumbnail test before I tie it on. If it slides off, it gets sharpened. If I threw Chatterbait you can bet I'd check it's hook first.

  43. Mend it actually fuses the soft plastic back together, unlike super glue where it just sticks it together.

  44. I fish these like a Senko where I want just a little more weight. Cast, let fall on semi-slack line, let it soak a bit, small drag if no bite, reel in and recast. They are also good pitched into holes in the weeds when you want a little slower fall than a jig or t-rig. The weight and profile make a them skip a long way as well.
