  2. As the title states, I'll be fishing vicariously through all of you as I deploy back to Afghanistan on Thursday. Not expected to be home until after the water gets hard so I hope everyone catches their personal best! Post tons of pictures up here so when I have the ability to get on a computer this will be my first stop!! Thanks everyone, so glad I found this forum when I did! Tight lines all.

  5. I managed to find 3 hours of fishing time today in between the family Easter plans. It was pretty warm out today. I fished a small pond that was half ice yesterday. Surprisingly the water temperature was 48 degrees. The water is super clear on this small pond and the bass were really spooky. They would see my jig and spook. After fishing my jig for two hours and nothing I switched tactics. I started fishing a senko and crankbait. I caught a 2 lber and a 2.5 lber pretty quickly on a senko. Just before I had to leave I caught a 3 lb 9 oz largemouth on a crankbait for a total of 3 bass today.I will be on the water again tomorrow fishing moose pond if we can launch the boat.

  6. Got out this afternoon for a few hours in the canoe. I got this 3lb'er for my first fish of the year on a Lucky Craft jerkbait. Felt gooood.

  7. For 100 bucks of my hard earned money, the dang rod needs to be 100% perfectly constructed. I don't mind a ding or something in the cork, but the guides and reel seat need to be 100% correct. A lot of guys on here will look down on 100 dollar rods as if they aren't worthy, but lets not forget for most of us, 100 is a day or a half day of work. 100 bucks is a lot of money ans the product needs to exemplify that You are not expecting too much. Send it back till they get it right. And if you experience more headache, look at a diff brand next time

  8. Probably around 200ish. Biggest being 6.62 went all the way through March with out a fish over 4lbs. Caught several in the low 5s in the past two weeks. Proudest accomplishment is having a new 16 year old fishing partner that has caught over 100 bass this year with me and has a PB of 7.13 lbs in his second season of fishing. He caught the fish by skipping a 1/4 homemade jig of mine under a thick bush into the back corner of a laydown. When I seen the lure placement, I actually clapped and said, " that's how its done !, you catch a fish there" .... And he did... If I don't catch another fish this year, I am happy and content with knowing that I've taught a young man this sport and that he's learning something that will give him a life of joy.

  9. For the last three years I've been buying, selling, swapping, building, tuning, upgrading, repairing, evaluating, and re-aligning my rod and reel combos. I've gotten it down to 15 casting and 5 spinning setups. I tried to get it pared down further, but just couldn't do it. Now, I'm done. I am not buying any more rods and reels. For my kind of fishing, I have all the bases covered. Now to work on that 500 pounds of tackle I've accumulated. I want to trim that down as well, but I may be doomed to fail.

  13. Nah, I too had a sportbike until two years ago. Thats not what people complain about. They complain about things like... Lane Splitting at WARP speed Riding wheelies on the freeway in traffic Coming past your house at mach 3 Blocking all the lanes so you and your buddies can ride in a pack Modding your exhaust so you can have the loudest bike in town I never once had a problem in the 18000 miles I put on my last bike because there is a time and place for everything.

  14. Well, that guy was kind of incorrect. You probably won't give up on bait casting gear just because one rig does or don't work. He was correct though, that you do need a Shimano, because just the act of owning one will boost your self esteem and make you a better person.

  19. Shameless plug Clacker? It's the simplest and least expensive option and your guaranteed to get the thing working right. It's just good advice. I do not recommend most tear their reels apart. It's a disaster waiting to happen for all but a select few that will find it easy and enjoyable. A shameless plug would be me telling him to send it to me, and profiting from his misfortune while taking advantage of my privileges on this forum.

  21. holy shameless plug. this site is amazing for so many reasons and yet shameless sponsor/product pushing is the most embarrassing part of it (in defense every site pushes their sponsors but none quite so shamelessly). mike from DVT is amazing and will def get ur reel running...and super tune the bleep out of it. something tells me he's not ur man at this point in ur life. you're a young guy, probably in high school, that clearly joined this site to figure out how to fix it yourself b/c you don't have money to spare. don't panic you'll get it working soon enough. you just put something back together wrong and a few more attempts will be the cure. i'd bet $20 the problem will be fixed if you simply break it down and put it back together 3 more times. did you watch any youtube vids? you can learn a lot from all reel maintenance videos (lews, bps, shimano etc). and follow ur reel schematics while doing it. this shimano vid does a great job of exposing all the parts and how they stack back together. keep an open mind b/c your reel is basically the same.

  24. finally figured out where the bigger fish are at holiday. it's frustrating when your catching between 20-25 pounds and you're not even close to a check. wednesday niight i went out and had 25 pounds from 4-7. went back yesterday from 1-7 in a completely different area with the same pattern and had 32 pounds. went back this morning at sun up and had 31 pounds by 11:30. i think its safe to say i'll be fishing the open tourny out there next sunday. holiday is on fire!

  26. it is accurate, they were probably saying they dont use more than 1/4oz jigs. A 1/4oz jig head plus hook, skirt, wire tie or rattles etc plus the plastic trailer you put on ends up being a 1/2oz. +

  31. Thats nice. Id like to get into swimbait fishing.

  32. Have fun with that. I catch a few big swimbait fish on a magical day when the stars line up and then for the next few weeks I'm spending excessive amounts of time swimbaiting and foregoing other techniques and spending money on swimbaits and more gwar to toss them on. It takes q few skunk days to bring me back down to earth.

  35. I definitely fish wacky rigs more often, but I prefer to fish T-rigs. It depends on what structure I'm fishing. If I'm fishing submerged weeds, I go wacky with a weedless wacky hook. If I'm fishing lily pads or submerged/overhanging trees, then I opt for the T-rig.

  38. My frogging is going pretty good my friend. So far this year, I am over 250 bass caught on Mr. Froggy alone. This year for me surprisingly is the year of the spinnerbait. I have really gotten into it and have caught several nice bass. Good luck with your season. You have gotten off to a great start.

  40. I had a similar issue on a new rod from TW...The epoxy that held it on was cracked. TW tried to tell me it wasn't a big deal. I insisted they replace it, and they did, relatively hassle free. When buying something new, it should be NEW. Don't take it into your own hands to fix it if you've never done that before....You might just make it worse, then you're SOL.

  41. you going to try the 8" hudds the next outing? Once again, great first fish of the year.

  42. Yeah, always tougher to do it on Sunday. If we are not on the same spot, its likely that we will both still have a lot of company. Not a lot of secrets out there in that KOTG crowd. Just gotta make the right moves at the right time on tourney day. Good luck, Sunday!

  43. agreed. Ive had 15# Red Label on a 200e5 for two seasons. It's far from premium line. KVD L&L does wonders to fluoro.

  44. I haven't used either, but I decide on a hooks size by making sure there is about the same space between the hook and bottom of the hooked plastic, as the thickness of the plastic itself. Mike

  47. Let me show you how well L&L truly works. Over the winter I started flipping a hookless rattletrap at the dog just to pass the time and wait for the ice to melt. The reel I was using was a Core50. Obviously I needed that reel back as soon as we got ice off so I Dug out an old reel I hadn't used in years so I could keep playing with the dog I pulled the line out and it looked like this I sprayed the spool with L&L and came back a few hours later. I gave the line one pull and the coils disappeared like magic!!! Pretty cool stuff don't ya think?

  48. Switch to KVD Line and Lure and that oily problem will go away!I was just at Bass Pro Shops recently. I didn't need anymore KVD since I still have about a half a bottle left. WAIT, did I say a half a bottle? As in ONLY a half of one single bottle? I can't have that, so I bought a backup bottle. $10 for a bottle of liquid magic seems like a steal to me. I swear I think this stuff would grow hair if I rubbed it on my bald head. If you have hair, use it as shampoo, it will strengthen your roots and repair split ends. Rub it on bruises and the pain goes away. Open wounds heal before your very eyes. Use it as eye drops for the blind and it restores sight. Use it in already seeing eyes and it gives you X-Ray vision. Works well as an energy drink also, with an added bonus of being able to fish like KVD for about 30 minutes, so save it for those last few casts in important tournaments. Dip your lead sinkers in it and it turns them to gold. Wash your car in it and it repairs dents and dings on contact. Put some in the fuel as an additive to improve gas mileage. Add it to contaminated water to purify for drinking. Seriously, jokes aside, KVD line treatment is the real deal. At this point they could rename it as Snake Oil and bottle it in rattlesnake skins and I'd still buy it.
