  1. She wanted to use the "black" worm. It actually was a LFT 4"ring fry in Junebug. She put a good whooping on her brother and I. We caught a total of15 bass and 2 crappie, hers being the biggest. I casted the bait out for her and she just reeled it back. This pick was the 2nd cast on the ring fry. The rest of the time we used a flick shake and 4" Zoom finesse. Both in green pumpkin. All in all, one of the best days of my life, fishing my with my children and not wanting it to end.

  2. You don't need expensive gear to catch fish. There are plenty of people on here that catch a lot of fish using a lot cheaper gear then others. You can't buy experience or time on the water. I'll bet there are more then a few people on here that hopped on the Dobyns train and don't do any better then they did before or would get out fished by someone using a $100 rod.

  4. "Tackle snobs" or just collectors that have chosen fishing as their hobby? Today's rod & reels are so superior to the equipment we were using a decade ago, I think for a modest price the "catching" part is not significantly effected. However, better equipment makes the "fishing" part more fun!

  6. I participate in reverse snobery. I'll outfish you and take your money with my $80-$100 rods, leaky tin boat, sub $10 hard baits, and cheap soft plastics.

  7. 12-14 pound mono. Berkely big game is cheap and comes on a large spool. Once you get the hang braid is deffinately more user friendly in many ways.

  10. Impossible to measure the difference between 'micro' and 'standard' unless they are built on absolutely identical blanks, which is pretty much impossible. If this is done, the micro rod wil feel crisper and recover faster.

  11. The only thing that stops me from fishing is a frozen body of water. I have even fished when there was ice at many places on the surface but basically if there is open water I will fish it.

  13. The ability to buy guns at Walmart has nothing to do with violent crime. Gangbanger are the result of their environment. The bulk of the violent crime here in Chicago is in a select few neighborhoods. There are no Walmarts or any other gun stores in those neighborhoods.

  15. I carve them from a block of PVC, sand them down smooth, ballast them, make the hook hangers and the line ties from ss wire, cut the diving lips from Lexan then shape them to a template. Epoxy the hangers, ties ballast and then paint. Once the paint is finished, install the eyes, and diving bill, then cover the painted bodies with epoxy, let cure. After the epoxy is cured, install split rings, and hooks. From shaping to finish about 6 hours counting cure time for the epoxy for the line tie and hook hangers, etc.

  17. I'd rather have 6 of just about any rod over a Duckett. The blanks are the diameter of a tree trunk, and they just look cheap. They had the audacity to put a SS tip guide on their Ghost rods, which will groove and deform over time. Not a fan.

  20. There isn't a panacea line available today. Braid is difficult to cast compared to mono, get a bad backlash and braid is very difficult to pick out. Braid is lighter weight, smaller diameter and limp, both good and bad characteristics. The good; small diameter and limp without any memory issues and very low stretch. The bad; floats in the air during your cast and can create wind knots. Braid is stronger by equal diameter than mono about a 3X factor. The good; less drag in the water, however higher drag coefficient than the smooth surface mono, both FC and Nylon, in water and going through rod guides. Braid floats because it is very light weight making it buoyant creating a belly in the line until the lure weight or resistance pulls the line tight. Braid is a solid color, mono,Nylon and FC, are translucent or clear. Bass have excellent vision and see all line types, the question is does that matter? The answer is; it does when it does, otherwise it doesn't. The strength of braid is both good and bad, cuts through vegetation, get cut by sharp hard edges. Hang up a directly tied lure on braid, you can force the lure out, if not it's difficult to break off. Combine the two line types creates added knots and failure points. My take is use whatever line you are confident with. Tom

  21. Thought it would be cool to get a couple opinions on the fishing shows that used to air back in the late 70s 80s on saturday mornings. Remember those?? Back to Back to Back etc. For me it was " Fishing with Roland Martin " Usually on about 8am when I was a kid. Being 40 now I often remember saturday fishing shows. And just how good they were. Dance, Houston,Parker just to name a few. I actually enjoyed those shows more than the ones today ! And the best part was I didnt need a certain channel or cable package to watch them!! Im not ranting or anything. But I thought it would be cool to ask what your favorite fishing show was and why? Like I said for me it was Roland Martin. I really loved to watch him on Okechobee fishing with live shiners and a balloon for a bobber. Huge bass out of tall grass!!!! From there I was hooked on bass fishing!!!!! Hell I even remembering begging my folks for a Shimano Bantam Beastmaster two speed casting reel ! Haha. Thanks for letting me reminise on the on the old days. Feel free to share. Lee

  22. Finally got a chance to go back to Philippines for a vacation and family reunion. Stayed half of the time in Makati, boy the whole place changed after 15 years. I could easily get lost here. Finally got to my sister's rest house in Caliraya Lake at Laguna. The road to the place I had a great time. The weather is Caliraya is fantastic. It's more of a rain forest setting, drizzle in the morning for half an hour and the sun comes out to brighten the day. It's always windy and the breeze cools the air. The house is between waters from the west and the east side. I got at least six black bass during my stay there. Most of them are caught in weightless 5" senko and 5" YUM worm. I tried all types of topwater lure to get a mud fish/snake head family but would not get them to bite. I actually have not spotted any. I think I found a place to retire: Thanks for reading

  23. After thunderstorms all night last night I hit the local pond this morning and caught this guy! Biggest fish I've caught so far. Maybe 4-5lbs? I'm still such a noob when it comes to judging just by seeing them.

  27. I'd prefer a mix of higher priced rods and cheaper rods. Weather it be Duckett or whatever you choose. So for this topic lets say a mix of micro magics and ghosts. I don't need a $250 rod for frogs or do I need a $250 rod for buzzbaits, spinnerbaits and swim jigs. So the $99 ghost would be fine for me. For Texas rigs, jigs, and anything bottom contact I'd buy the more expensive rod. To add to this. You can find rods that run $150-200 and fish like $250.

  30. When the Power Pole was first introduced, I knew that eventually I had to get one. But I dragged my feet because I wasn't happy with the price nor the cricket-leg appearance. Then Minn Kota launched the Talon, a vertical pile-driver, and I promptly jumped on the bandwagon. In water up to 8 ft deep I deploy the Minn Kota Talon, and in water greater than 8 ft deep I deploy the Minn Kota Spot Lock, which is a GPS feature on their electric motor. I was thinking about getting two Talons to fix the location of the boat, but I really don't want more stern clutter. Instead, I position the boat by putting the transducer on my spot with the bow pointed downwind, so in effect the Talon serves as a flagstaff. Roger

  31. A small small pond that got water from a pond that is now drained has produced several 4+ fish, the biggest that I have got out of there was around 3lbs. My friend landed his PB there at 6lbs 1oz (I took the photo)

  32. I like the wacky saddle kit. Using one oring puts the hook parallel with the worm, where the wacky saddle puts the hook perpendicular to the worm. I was loosing a lot of fish with one oring and I didn't like using two and crossing them. The kit was the answer I was looking for.

  34. Yellow perch aren't nest builders like bass; they are more similar to broadcast spawners. Lay the eggs up around any dead vegetation or woody material. The eggs are very sticky and adhere to the shallow cover. Perch will then move out and hang in the general area for a little while, but don't guard. -T9

Like you can buy cows and pigs. 3. Would she be considered a exotic animal? 4. If she is classified as exotic. Is she safe enough to have around kids. Also could I use her for safaris like they do rhinos. You know the ones that use a dart gun. I bet I could make a killing doing that.

  43. I fish a lot of ultra clear strip pits and my favorite lure is a wacky rigged watermelon yum dinger in the 4" size and the yamamoto shad shape worm texas rigged weightless. I also like throwing a 3' watermelon grub on a 1/8 jig head and swim it back to my kayak. I also do a lot of drop shotting with robo worms, centipedes, shad shape worm etc. A kayak is superb in gin clear water.

  44. if you look hard there is actually some pretty good info on this thread, a lot of unrelated and non-informative stuff as well. I may be one of the only people who took what Tom had to say probably the way he meant it, or at least close to it, and in my experience I would have to agree with the nature of his original post. Some of my worst days have come when i didnt do my research on weather patterns, look up fishing reports, and other stuff i usually do, i just went out fishing planning on catching them where i did "last time". Now typically i am able to recover and figure something out, but spending three+ hours in a spot just to figure out they are not here sucks. I guess the moral of the story is dont be lazy, approach each day like a new challenge, and dont rely on fishing spots where they have been in the past, be ready to use your knowledge to find that new "Honey Hole"... 45. I really don't know why the word memories became erase your fishing knowledge or leave your experience at home. The point I was trying to get across was not to preconceived what going to happen by rigging up the night before, fish the moment. What is even more ironic are statements regarding seasonal periods and bass behavior. Consider this fact; I was a pioneer writing about seasonal periods and bass behavior 40 years ago, before some of my critics were born. Reference: Google " Cosmic Clock and Bass Calendar" and look at the first page with the Cosmic Clock and Bass Calendar and instructions. I made this chart up in 1974 for Bass Pro Shop seminar in Burbank CA., yes there was a BP in Burbank back then owned by Bruce Noll. Don't leave your knowledge at home, if that was what came out of this thread, it's the wrong message. Tom
