  2. Me and my son went to pickwick lake for a couple of days to camp and fish. The wind was bad but we managed to catch around 20 bass. All fish were caught on suspending jerkbaits. This was the best one of the trip. It was his first smallie and a good one at that! 3.02lbs

  5. Last night I caught a 5lber in the pond behind the house we're staying in as the bass were blowing up on minnows or some bait fish near the bank. Today I decided to throw the buzzbait all along the perimiter and one of the big mamas crushed it. She was pushing 9lbs. I'm running out of time to fish before we head back home up north.

  9. Oh...and also, by the way, it's the reason I have the Lowrance weather module attached to my Lowrance units. It will warn you of lightening strikes within 10 miles of your location by sounding loud alarms. It can seem like an unnecessary gimmick, but when you hear of stories like this, it's money well spent.

  12. The bass were on the feedbag today apparently recovered from the spawn. They were bigger than usual and all skinny. 3 were around 5lbs. and between the 2 of us we boated 36 in 4 hours. I also hooked a huge snook that had to hit over 20lbs., she jumped twice before wrapping me around bridge pilings and popping the 25# leader. The closer the front approached the quicker the bite was. A good day for a man made canal system.

  14. Took my brother in law and his brother out last weekend. One is from Mass and the other from Connecticut. I gave them the option of two different saltwater trips or the best day of bass fishing they will ever have. They chose to go bassing. The first hour was a bit slow so I switched one rod to a wacky french fry style bait. It was game on. One guy mostly threw flies so half his fish were different panfish (sunfish, warmouth, cycllids and oscars). They estimated that the 3 of us landed 200 fish in 7 hrs. I think that's a bit high... it was more like 150 fish. The bad news is that 148 of them were dinks. My brother in law landed a 2 lb and a 3 lb bass to take big fish honors. Weather permitting, I am heading out again tomorrow morning with 2 of my nephews.

  15. Doesn't matter how long you have been bass fishing or what your skill levels is, we all make the same mistake. We start of the day or night by fishing memories, using lures, presentations and locations that worked the last time we caught bass. If nothing on the lake has changed, this may work, however lakes tend to change by the hour and expecting the bass to be where they were and eat what you offered the last time you fished, you are making a mistake......if you continue to fish memories without success. I am no different and pre plan my next fishing outing, tie on lures that I believe will work. What I have learned over decades of bass fishing is; don't fire up the engine and run to where I fished the previous outing. My routine to prevent fishing memories is check the lakes conditions at the moment as the boat is launched. Look at the water color, clarity, temperature, meter around the marina for sights of baitfish and bass. Put a starting plan together based on what you know at that moment and make changes based on your instinctive feelings from what you learn during the day or night. Make new memories each outing and put the past behind you. Good fishing. Tom

  23. Your lake is popular with local derbies which means you are sharing the water with experienced bass anglers. If 50 boats are fishing maybe 25 good spots, there are very few unknown spots. So assume those others anglers are fishing the well known lures and colors. For example black-blue jigs and watermelon red flake worms and Senko's. If you are fishing the same colors and presentation as the other anglers, why do you believe you will out fish them? The answer isn't how smart the bass are, it's how smart you are that will determine success. The old saying 10% of the bass anglers catch 90% of the bass is as true today as it was 50 years ago! Separate yourself from the anglers by using techniques and lures the other are not using. Hint; 95% of bass anglers fish within 20 yards of the bank, look over your shoulder and discover un pressured bass. Tom

  26. If you're on a tight budget, why not look at Humminbird Fishin Buddy or Piranha Max series, Lowrance X series, or Eagle Fish Easy series which, I believe is made by Lowrance. They're more than $40, but at least you know you're getting quality

  27. I throw them, and have caught on them. It's as satisfying as any other catch. Not really on any swim bait forums, so I have no clue about any fraternity. I dislike cliques anyway.

  28. While big swimbaits catch big fish(bass) and little ones, they are not conducive for me in a lot of areas I fish. I have caught bass on eight inch hudds and while exciting at first I realized most of the big fish were where I could not effectively fish them in my area. IMO opinion small swimbaits are not much different than throwing crankbaits or jerkbaits, still targeting the same fish. Guys get pumped up because everyone talks about how hard it is to catch them on swimbaits and they get surprised once they realize a three pounder will absolutely choke an 8 inch hudd and the shock factor starts setting in! Also the drawing power of some swimbaits are phenominal....they'll reveal size fish that you hadn't realized were there.

  29. Over the years, I've probably used enough Sevenstrand steel leaders to fill a garbage can. Steel leaders are highly kink-prone and rust-prone, but since the introduction of titanium leader I discarded my entire inventory of steel leader. Two excellent brands of titanium wire leader are "AFW Titanium Wire" and "Knot2Kinky Nickel-Titanium Wire". No sleeves, no crimping pliers, just swing a quick figure-8 knot and have at it. Yes, wire leader dampens lure action, but I'm not sure that it also dampens your catch rate. Either way, a low cutoff ratio is just as important as maximum lure action, especially with my luck. Titanium leader will boat every toothy fish without a single cut-off, something that cannot be said of steel leader (which weakens as it kink) and something that could never be said of fluorocarbon leader. The sticker shock of titanium leader scares many anglers away, but thanks to its high kink-resistance, one titanium leader can last the better part of a day. In the long run, titanium begins to look reasonable, and is far more pleasurable to fish than steel. Roger

  42. You bought matching truck and boat trailer rims. You pierced your daughters ears with a 2/0 worm hook. You named a pet after your favorite lure. You have bluegill or perch in the family fish tank. You have a skin mouth right next to the wedding photos. You find a way to bring up your personal best in every conversation. You have a spare rod combo in your wife's car. You bought a house in a bad neighborhood, poor school system, and far away from work just so you're closer to the lake. Your favorite dance is The Worm. You have reel grease stains on your couch. You thought about eating pork trailers. On a recent trip to court you corrected the judge that you set the hook instead of setting the bail.
