  2. Off topic Yes I am and Yes I do... But even if I weren't, I'd share a few of my fishing experiences here with my many friends, and/or try to assist them with any knowledge or experience that I may have. If I didn't, they might think that I had DIED or something I can see in your original post how others might see it as possibly arguable, but I also agree that if we think that a topic or comment is questionable, we should be tactful in our response. It's important for us all to realize, that there are many young people and inexperienced anglers here at BassResource. They accept the information that those of us who appear to know what we're talking about... as FACT, so we have to be careful of our statements or comments to avoid confusion... Me included On Topic All skilled, seasoned and well experienced anglers on any given body of water should know that changing weather, water, seasonal or bait pattern conditions will alter the bite. Any angler who hasn't experienced that fact, would be considered inexperienced. We should always rely on our memories and experiences of each of these in order to be more successful anglers. I do agree that during each outing, we should make new memories... so that we can remember what was successful during that outing and during those times and conditions. If a Guide forgot everything he knew about the waters he fishes and also which baits and styles of presentations that work best for him, he wouldn't stay in business very long... If a Tournament Pro forgot the areas of any lake they've fished and which bait presentations worked best at the different times of year that they've fished it, they won't be very successful on the circuit... If a person knew well at one time and then forgot, all of the seasonal bait and bass patterns on a certain lake, and all of the major structure changes including offshore ledges, humps, river bends, submerged timber and tree tops, shell beds, underwater rock and gravel locations, Grass beds etc. and which baits and colors worked best in any and all of those different areas and situations, they're back to square one. Since I fish year around on many different bodies of water and only target one particular size of fish, it's important for me to remember any and all of my past experiences and knowledge of not only my target fish but also changing presentation styles and locations depending on the overall conditions. So I feel that remembering everything I can pays big dividends. Another Example - Recently KVD handed the Major League Fishing competitors the biggest butt kickin in history at the Michigan event and in a variety of weather and water conditions... I doubt that he did it by forgetting all that he knew about his home waters. And just this weekend on the St Johns river, Chris Lane is handing out a royal flogging to the rest of the Elite series. I bet all of the other competitors are wishing that Chris Forgot all he knows about his Home waters too. Maybe if you just said, we should never expect each fishing experience to remain the same if the weather, water, seasons and bait patterns have changed... it would have been less questionable. And maybe this topic was good to illustrate how important it is to understand that changing factors in conditions will make us usually change our tactics for success

  5. Decided to take off work a little early yesterday and try to get on the lake after running some errands and I'm glad I did. Caught this girl in about 15 ft of water of the end of a tree top on an alabama rig. She weighed right in at 9 lbs. This has been a great year so far as far as quality fish.

  6. Sorry I've been away folks but it's not because I was fishing ALL the time, I was running and doing my chores After the Classic, I headed to Florida and fished with a good friend Ray Van Horn to test one of my new baits on the inshore fish... It was a blast as we caught Reds Snook, Trout and Bass on it over a three day period. Soon as I returned, Shane J flew in from New Hampshire to catch me on the water... Good thing he did too cause I needed help getting in the boat... Getting too old for this We had some extreme weather with cold and wind, and it was so bad that I speared a wave in my 21ft Skeeter I-Class. Shane took it right on the chin and smiled with the boat FULL of water It broke the trolling motor mount and a rod strap, plus it drowned my I Phone... He said that was his FIRST and I said "How'd you like it We never got completely dry or warm but we were able to find a few Studdettes and the one he caught here trashed a Smokin Rooster in 8ft water on a brushy timberline. Between scheduled events, I rarely get to plan my fun fishing anymore so I'll take it when I can, LOL. Hope some of you Northern friends are seeing signs of a Spring thaw and hope to see some of you at the Roadtrip! Now I'm going FUN Fishing again... WOOO-HOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

  8. Alright, so, in re-reading through, I have to kind of admit, that I sort of did steer it off topic, and into an area that was irrelevant, and I apologize to the group for that. As far as me n Tom go, there are just a couple people that, despite having some very valuable info and accomplishments on the water, just rub me the wrong way in how they they use it. We may never see eye to eye, but that doesn't mean that thoughts, opinions, and yeah, even a little rubbing shared along the way, shouldn't be okay to experience.

  9. This nature you guys talk about must include guys in outboards doing 70 mph across the lake, people in wave runners shooting donuts and people talking, LOL. That's usually what I hear when I am expecting silence. Now, a tree stand, that is a different story.

  11. The bass bite in my part of NC is non existant, so me and a buddy have been bream and crappie fishing until its gets a bit warmer. I caught three crappie back to back tonight, and none of em were less than a pound a piece. This was the best (also the biggest Iv ever caught) of the night. 1lb. 15oz.

  15. Twenty years ago when I used to party and was much more fit and full of testosterone, a buddy (6'8" 315) and I (6'2" 205) came out of a bar and heard screaming down the street to our right. We looked to see a dude gripping his girl by the hair on top of her head and punching the snot out of her. Instantly we were both in a full sprint after this P.O.S. As we arrived I see his head turn towards us and his eyes get as big as saucers as he discovers his situation. My buddy open hand slapped the dude (he was about my size) and knocked him backwards over a large concrete planter that he was standing beside. That pretty much ended his night. His girlfriend was instantly afraid for their safety and started screaming at us to stop. She didn't know how far we were going with this butt whooping. She helped him up and they took off across the street when he turned around and started woofing at us like some kind of superhero. Again we both said nothing and began our sprint towards him (at this point I was feeling a little left out and wanted my turn dishing out some street justice). He turned and ran away. We laughed and returned to our bar hopping. I can't stand by and watch a guy beat on a girl. I don't care what the circumstance, I get involved. My son has quite a few butt whoopins' for hitting his little sister. No doubt, he has learned that lesson, loud and clear. Zero tolerance. Chances are good that some woman, at some time in your life, will make you feel like knocking the heck out of her. Hitting her is cowardice in its purest form.

  19. Roger, I know of what you speak. My dad spent the last ten years in a nursing home. Alzheimer's is a cruel disease. Maybe not to the victim, but certainly to the rest of the family. Once he started showing symptoms, his decline was rapid. It's been at least six years since he knew who I was. His physical decline was almost as fast. When he died last week, he was not much more than skin and bones. It was a heartbreaking thing to see. My thoughts are with you and your wife. Take as much time as you can with Mom, while she still has some lucid periods. Speaking from experience, it's all you can do.

  23. Not really a joke, just a conversation I just had with my 8 year old. Trying to be the wise old man I am, I said "Hey son, did you know that racecar spelled backwards is also racecar?" To which he replied "Yes, I knew that, and did you know poop is the same way?" I just gave him a high five and said "You win"

  24. A man was stopped by a game-warden in Northern Algonquin Park recently with two buckets of fish leaving a lake well known for its fishing The game warden asked the man, "Do you have a license to catch those fish?" The man replied to the game warden, "No, sir. These are my pet fish." "Pet fish?!" the warden replied. "Yes, sir. Every night I take these here fish down to the lake and let them swim around for a while. I whistle and they jump back into their buckets, and I take em home." "That's a bunch of hooey! Fish can't do that!" The man looked at the game warden for a moment, and then said, "Here, I'll show you. It really works." "O.K. I've GOT to see this!" The game warden was curious. The man poured the fish in to the river and stood and waited. After several minutes, the game warden turned to the man and said, "Well?" "Well, what?" the man responded. "When are you going to call them back?" the game warden prompted. "Call who back?" the man asked. "The FISH" "What fish?" the man asked.

  32. I usually do 6-8 inches.. you want it so the bait is right in front of the bass's face. The bass will more than likely bite something hovering in front of her face more than if its just laying on her bed.

  37. What prompted me to post this thread was my most recent trip to Casitas and a post A BR member had made. Roadwarrier made a statement that he and his partner had a recent tournament event wired, they had done the homework and knew what the big bass were on. Tournament day, they could only catch small bass and didn't do as good as they hoped, even though he was in the zone. My outing was similar, having fished Casitas since '58 and caught a lot giant bass* at this lake during pre spawn within 5 days around the full moon, I knew where to start and what to use from past experience. I was so confident that I didn't do my marina routine, why bother. 3 hours later with nothing going on, I decided to stop fishing and start looking around to what was really going on. No baitfish in the area, bass suspended at 8' in 15' of water, surface temps at 64. Moved into a few protected spawning areas, no cruisers or beds yet! Why had the bass pulled back and inactive? Ran into a boater who was catching a few small on Megabass Jerk bait, but that bite was tough. There was no wind, visibility about 10' and could see a few bass. Put away the jigs, worms and swimbaits, got out crank baits, dart jig and A-rig, found some off colored water and fished nothing banks along the 10' break. This is a classic post spawnafternoon presentation and it worked. I am not sure why the bass had pulled back, but they did. Next outing it may be full on pre spawn to spawn transition. You can bet that I will check the conditions in the marina before fishing what should have worked based on past experience. Fish the moment, not the past is exactly what this thread is all about. Tom * my bench mark for giant bass is 15 lbs at Casitas & Castaic.

  38. Nice reel, Bob. I have one, and love it. And as far as the fishing goes, tomorrow will be frontal, and cold, I'm expecting fish to be pulled back, and not very active, so I'm going to target them close to channel drops in some deeper, slack areas. Probably going to run a drop shot and jig worked painfully slow. With winds around 12-14 ish, I'll probably have to anchor out, and hit stuff that way.

  41. I get all that........ but you started in how he hasnt caught yadda yadda in 30 years........ where's the pics...... did he even catch it. you forget sir, WRB, CATT and all these old timers did it without GPS, waypoints, sidescan ect ect. which is fishing at arguably a higher level than we do today. anyways..... I am out of here cause I am doing what you should have done..... dont like so I am leaving the thread and not gonna rail on somebody...no minds will be changed here.

  47. I fished farm ponds, watersheds and reservoirs from the time I was 10 till I was about 26. I thought I was a pretty good fisherman. Then I started fishing lakes and I soon realized that I wasn't much of a fisherman at all. Even to this day I am still learning every time I go out. I will fish a pond every once in a while, but I would rather be out on a lake really trying to test my abilities. Catching a big bass from a small pond really isn't a big accomplishment in my book.
