  1. A year or so ago, I was fishing Toledo Bend when the Elites were competing there. That lake is well over 100.000 acres. It was Sunday morning and my buddies and I had been fishing in this one bay for the last several days without seeing any of the pros. I was fishing a point off a small island when a well-known pro of small stature and loud mouth came roaring up. He said, "Mind if I fish here?" Knowing that he was trying to make a living, I said "Sure, help yourself," and began reeling in my line in preparation for departure. Well, apparently, I wasn't reeling in fast enough to suit him, so he cast his lure within two feet of my boat. I kept my mouth shut, but let's just say that little stunt of his ticked me off royally. I no longer have any respect for that little squirt. I left that spot at full RPM, and hoped that he didn't catch a danged thing on that point. Apparently he didn't, because he finished out of the running. Tough. Using proper manners may sometimes catch more fish than the proper lure.

  2. Everyone has to believe in something, I believe I'll go fishing. Henry David Thoreau I'd rather be on the lake thinking about God, than in church thinking about fishing.

  3. I find it funny that I can rent out one of my towns parks and have a private football playoff there without other people playing through but big bass groups can't hold a tourney without having to navigate though spectators.

  5. Just got back from a couple of hours of fishing at canal close to my house. Bite was slow, but somehow convinced these guys to bite. Even an Exotic (Mayan Cichlid) decided to hit. I was using a booyah spinnerbait.

  9. What's sad is that we wouldn't even be having a conversation about rules/laws to keep people off the water if people displayed a little class, courtesy and common sense.

You will have opportunity's at work...you will not have opportunity's to see your kids do a lot of their first's if your working. Kids don't need ten of everything....they grow to fast. May God give you all health and happiness'.

  16. Lipless cranks sink pretty fast. I like using a 7' fast-ish action rod with a 7.x:1 reel to pick up slack. Also, you realize your asking crack addicts if they think you should have multiple pipes, right?

  19. The picture is from Randall's boat. The guy had 50 boats follow him to the repair site after his breakdown. I think the photo is misleading in relation to the actual fishing. There is no way the spectators were that close to him. And finally the reports of people fishing right after the pros make a pass without giving them a chance to make a follow up in the opposite direction is a little alarming. But not surprising, we are talking about Alabama and Earnhardt fans.

  20. The difference is that "public" golf courses are still privately owned and not supported by tax dollars - they are public because they don't require a membership. Lake Guntersville is a State Park, so technically, it belongs to the residents of Alabama.

  21. Another vote for inviz-x. The guys here sold me on it and after using it last season I fell in love. Great stuff without breaking the bank. Use backer if you have a lot of reels to fill. Also a big fan of KVD L&L, it just flat works.

  26. Thought id update you guys on my trip to Florida. I will go in Order. Snuck out of the house early and fished a small feeder creek to the St. Johns. Ended up a with a decent red. Not a bad start to 2014. That night we drove south to hit up the Big O Then I decieded to not check into the Hotel for a few hours... Ended up being a great choice with the first Largemouth of 2014 a solid 3.5 plus! Next day we hit Oke rented a boat and this was the biggest at about 3 pounds Lake was nasty nasty water so I had to fish the rim canal most of the day. Last full day I hit Baymeadows park in Jax and got a dink but thats all. Thanks to MCS for mentioning some spots to me as well as anyone else who helped out!

  35. 160" is a lot, A-Jay, is that true? I can't inagine the kind of winter you just went thru. Back in '08 or '09 I think it was, I had an ice dam that damaged the walls and ceiling in my addition and kitchen. The following spring I repaired the roof and ceilings and have had no problems since. This past fall, I painted the walls and ceilings in the addition, kitchen and hall. As luck would have it, I got another ice dam and have sheetrock staining on the beam that separates the kitchen and addition. Not gonna fool around this time, the roof on my house is at the end of it's life expectancy, so I'm planning on replacing the roof and I'll repair the sheetrock on the beam. Just another home repair job I really didn't want to do this year!...LOL

  36. The River to Sea Live Eye Bottom Walker is often overlooked but is an excellent bait for slow rolling in deep water, I like the 150 size which run about 7$ for a 2 pack. The 3:16 lure company 6.5" Rising Son is another proven fish catcher.

  37. I only carry a few dozen in the boat at any given time, all my home made ones though. Any time the water is dirty my black and blue home made version is one of the first baits I'm going to be throwing! It's quickly become one of my top big fish getters for sure! I've just recently starting making a much more snag resistant version that allows me to fish them through timber and other snaggy areas very slowly without hanging up. Gave them a test run last week and they were a huge success. I got big fish and first place in one of the week night tournaments with one of my vibrating jigs last summer. and caught my 2 biggest bass of the year in 2012 on them, of course the biggest one was on a black and blue one

  39. Yes we can't intentionally go after bass at all until the season starts. Which also you can harvest them depending on which level of fishing license you have purchased (of course this part doesn't matter to me). It is also set at a provincial level, so it is different from each province the regulations like the states. When I go for pike, I do catch bass here and there though, but you must "immediately" release them...like you can't take pics..etc. A lot of bass fisherman up here thinks the rules need to be lifted similar to what you are saying though. The bass population is very healthy in most of the waters around here.

  40. I have to wait until almost end of June for bass season to start, but I've been ready since the end of the season November 30th. I usually fish for Pike until bass season opens.

  42. Guns are tools. Every tool has its use. A lot of people with semi atuomatic rifles are enthusiasts and they spend a lot of time and money tinkering and shooting as hobby. Most of these people are law abiding citizens that don't bother anybody. I have 2 and I enjoy them. I don't care what people say or think. It doesn't change the man I am. God forbid anything ever happen on American soil of large scale, but I age there will be plenty of narrow minded anti gun folks that are seeking people like us for protection.
