  11. I like him and I hope he does well wether he used that 33 or not, but it sure would be cool if he did get a fish to the scales from that combo. It is also pretty funny he is mounting in $19 dollar reel to a $120 dollar smoke rod LOL

  12. I like night fishing quite a bit. Usually no wind, no power boaters or jet skies, and you usually have the whole lake to yourself. As NEjitterbug suggested a spinnerbait with a big Colorado blade works well. My favorite technique though is finding the thickest weeds in the lake and throwing a buzzbait. Night time 7 lber

  13. I use palomar knots you just have to do the one on the dropper side first, and then tie the whole thing on. As for their strength, I have yet to have a problem with them and I've played tug-o-war with plenty of big smallies which most know, pull like a tank.

  14. Never had a problem with them. Many 4-6lb brown and green fish landed on them. I find them easy to tie on. Trilene knot on each side of the swivel.

  19. Shimano Sherriff notwihstanding, at least the good captain is able to finitely, and capably explain why it is that he prefers one over the other, and does so without being critical of others choices. Which, when it all boils down to it, is choices. There are reasons that I can't stand some Lew's reels, and love some of the others. The same goes for Daiwa, even Shimano- though according to one particular post I'm nothing but a Shimano Fanboy... Anyhow... I don't disagree with you at all, Bob. They're not the same as the Pure and BPS reels. There's NO comparison between the Lew's and those two. I debate the validity of your argument that, should we take comparable reels in the Lew's line and Shimano, that the Lew's are unquestionably better, and better value. I've seen the opposite of your findings in my experience. But then, there are also reels from Daiwa that I prefer over both. As has been pointed out, numerous times, one of the most highly recommended combos in a baitcaster for the past couple years has emerged to be a Lew's on a Dobyn's. this silly notion of a Shimano Posse is pretty silly...

  23. Honestly I would pick up a lews tournament MG on eBay for that price. 14lb drag, deep spool for heavy line, long 95mn handle, external brake adjustment. It's a step up from the regular speed spool, orra or accurist

  28. Went out for little while today to one of my local canals. Fish were active. Caught a few fluking. Also came across 6 nice peacocks but I failed to bring my peacock baits with me. They were blowing up all around my baits. It was exciting to see but disappointing that I could not connect. The pea's were active up until about 6:15. Here is a pic of one of the better bass I caught fluking. I also saw a nice snook but he wasn't having it and left, and I was also able to balance a fluke on top of a nice bass's head, and it slowly swam away not remotely interested in my bait. Oh well, but the balancing act was cool.

  31. The analogy was to point out the extremity of your position. Thanks for taking the "high road" as you mentioned...The main reason you got a rebuttal was due to your lack of high road linguistics calling fisherman on a fisherman's website "cheaters" and "dishonorable" for trying to catch a world record bass and claim it as so. Being a rational guy as you exclaim, just ponder on that and attempt to see why the replies on a fishing forum disagreed. As for trying to insult you and your veteran family, I'm surprised you took it that way. It was stated to illustrate the extremity of your argument. I applaud your patriotism, and did not intend to proclaim how unpatriotic you were; yet since you were offended in that manner, it was not my intention and i apologize. Given the circularity of this discussion, i agree with flyfisher that we will have to agree to disagree.

  35. I've come to learn that the action is the most important part of any soft plastic bait. Bass and fish in general eat a wide variety of different creatures that fufill their diet on any given day/week and they react upon oppertunity to feed. That being said my priorities when fishing a soft plastic bait would be: 1.Action 2.Size 3.Color I don't care how good your matching the hatch color wise. You could spend $1,000 dollars on a custom paint job to any of your favorite lures by the best air brush painter in the world. or have your baits customly poured to your preffered color. If the action and size of your bait do not match the current mood of the fish, your not gonna get bit. Throw a color you have confidence in and focus more on the fish and how their environment is impacting them, rather than pondering if they don't like certain colors of the rainbow.

  42. Sunday 2/16/14, 8:00 - 1:00, water temp 64.2*, bluebird skies, light winds. Went out today with a friend from the site. January catch rate was off the chart. Then last week was tough. Today the rate went back up with over 100 caught. We had a couple of three pounders in the mix. The bigger fish were caught deep on wacky rigs. Fun right now in South Florida.
