  4. People tend to use the word 'warranty' when in actuallity "replacement program" is the better term. Repalcement programs are just a form of insurance whether charged for seperately of built into the price of the item. Everyone pays, some collect. All products carry an implied warranty of merchantibility unless expressly denied. In other words, when companies sell stuff, it has to hold up to the intended use. No company would last a week if they don't stand behind their products. I'd like to see all these fluff, marketing replacement programs fall by the wayside and just pay fair prices for quality items. If a rod is truly defective it's going to break right off the bat not weeks, months or years down the line. High modulus rods need to be protected from scratches, dents and dings to ensure blank integrity. In addition, no rod should be flexed to the point where the tip passes beyond 90* to the butt. In other words, no high sticking.

  6. Maybe bandwagons gets started because the product is good and develops a following. I am not a pro staffer but have all dobyns rods and recommend them to others. This is coming from some who has owned St Croix, Quantum, zillion, Steez, Powell, E21, Cumara, Crucial and on and on. Why do follow the bandwagon? Because the rods are versatile, have excellent tapers, customer service, reliability, and sensitivity. Furthermore, you know they listen to the anglers because they are always expending their lineups unlike many other companies. The champion and extreme lineup have seen something like 12 new models this year in order to better fill the needs of people who wanted them. Are there rods that are more sensitive? I'm sure the nrx and higher end loomis/Megabass are more so and they also have their "bandwagon" riders as well. Should they not voice their opinion as well? What about the duckett following? What about St Croix? Why didn't you say something about his choice of a Shimano Core? I mean isn't the shimano bandwagon just rolling on? Oh wait, shimano had a rep for solid reels and has quite a following. To promote one product doesn't have to disparage another and just because many people like a product doesn't mean it's bandwagon, it's a group of loyal customers who are trying to recommend something to a fellow forum member. Back on topic. Congrats on the purchase. The 734 is one of the most versatile rods in the lineup and can do abit of everything from spinnerbaits to super spooks to jigs. The core is a great reel of which the only modification I made on mine was a hawgtech handle since it was longer. Oh wait, I'm in the hawgtech bandwagon I guess for suggesting them.

  7. Living in the same area as Sam i agree with what he says. There are more HP restricted or electric only lakes around than not and being a kayak angler, I like it that way I have also seen people using motors larger than the 9.9hp restriction on more than one occasion.

  12. the problem with the anti- gunners is the same issue with the pro-gunners.......... there are so many crazies on both sides that is makes the normal/sensible people look bad. I know ccw holders that I am scared they are allowed to carry.... not because they are badasses, its because they are idiots who have watched a few john wayne movies I am progun btw.

  17. One solution I've found to fit thinner baits and baits made of Elaztech is to cut the screw lock down to about the first spiral, straighten it out with pliers, then just bend it so it's shaped like a J. You an push thin baits up onto it that way and Elaztech baits don't pull back off of it like they do with the screw locks.

  18. Thank you. Forgot to mention The reason people where upset with the score on Tackletour was based off of a few legitimate complaints. First, the rod lost points for being labelled a MH when it is clearly an XH. The reason people where upset is because the champion 735 is a MH under the Flipping rod system of powers and tapers. Tackle Tour did not know this and deducted points because of their mistake. A medium heavy power flipping rod is much more powerful than a regular medium heavy, say the dx703 or a medium heavy cranking rod such as the 705cb. All medium heavy, but different designations. Same thing with crankbait rods etc. Also, points for were deducted for the guides LOOKING upside down, not actually being so. The price was seen as a negative, but Valley Sports can give a great deal, thereby lowering the cost and consequently "raising" the score. Lastly, it lost points for not having a rod sleeve which only comes with a high end, select few rods. Take those negatives which a many feel unfairly scored the rod lower, and you can see that the rod was a better than the rating given it.

  19. I did say something about the reel on page 2, it is awesome. People just took this to another level. The bandwagon comment was explained a little but I guess that was my fault because none of you had any idea what exactly I meant by that. Thanks for the post and your views on the rod Grantman83

  22. I have a little 14 foot Jonboat with a 9.9 Johnson outboard and a 50 lb trolling motor. In Tidewater there are numerous lakes that require HP limitations. I usually fish them for that very reason. If I had a nicer boat, perhaps I would fish elsewhere. Since I don't.... There are other bodies of water without restrictions for those who want to use a larger motor.

  23. For me, I fish exclusively from the bank and retention type ponds, MH is fine, light pads, grass, hydrilla, no problem. But that isn't like the stuff in say the glades or chobee.

  27. My first car in 1997 was an '82 Ford Escort wagon that was poop brown in color. Nicknamed "The Turd" It had only an AM radio and front 4" speakers. The only power option it had was power steering I believe. It was my grandmas and after she passed I got it for free. She had a whopping 28K miles on it...(yes 28K) I loved the crap out of that car even though it was an abomination on wheels. The fate of the car was my brother smashing into a telephone pole and shattering his ankle. Glad he survived but he killed my car.. After that I was granted the awesomeness of an 86' Ford Escort hatch back (4 speed..vroom vroom). It was originally red, but it was so sun bleached it was more like a nasty orange color. nickname "The Hemorrhoid" That one set my dad back a whopping $325. To me it was free, never said a word. With that said, spend 2 or 3 grand and keep $8K for college or something more important. You have a lifetime ahead of you to work for whatever you want. I'll see if I can find pics of these 2 beauties I had and post them. I don't think I do though.

  31. No difference than other bass rods I use. Longer rods provide better fights no doubt, more rod means more load/flex.

  32. Heh. I've not fished smallies many times, but when I have, I've caught plenty on shorter rods in the 5'9" - 6'3" length without problem. It really comes down to what you like. Longer rods are popular these days, but not absolutely necessary. I always try out the longer rods in-store, but I just prefer the shorter variety. Say what you will, it is just what I prefer in my hands. If you can get your hands on rods in your local sporting goods store(s), ask them to put a reel on them (or bring your own) and see how they feel in YOUR hands. You may love a 7'6" rod, or you may hate it. You've got to make the choice for yourself.

  41. i like paul's post. marketing is how lots of things are sold. many are really not good products, but we are told how good they are. there are lots of claims in the fishing tackle industry that are not backed up with any scientific evidence. i have always been one to look at the science and physics of things. there are so many soft plastics on the market. anyone of them on a given day will fill the boat. i still maintain that a "whole lot of fish catchin'" boils down to putting it in front of one. bo

  42. Said to the wife: "I won't be gone long" "I'll be back in a little bit " " it was on sale" "yes I needed it, my other reel wasn't working right" "no, I do not have enough fishing lures. Fish are very picky" And of course you can never go wrong with "I'm sorry". This phrase is best said first thing in the morning. When she asks why you are sorry, you can say "for whatever I do to make you mad later today".
