Please disregard the over extended jaw photos near the bottom, as you can see I have long since learned how to properly hold them. The jaw hold on the F1 below is very appropriate. 12. Most yall know, I fish mostly Powell rods. Not too loyal just best bang for my buck and I'm used to them...and Lews reels same deal... Well, I've save most of my per diem money from 2013 and decided to spend a little bit on the finer things. Just ordered a Dobyns Champ Xtreme 704c and Core 100mg. Its gonna be a jig rod. I wanted a NRX, but at 239, I had to go for the Dobyns. Super excited! Can't wait for them to get here! If it is good as they say it is, ... I still have a lot left ovr.

  13. Guys, Mike Siebert is cranking out some seriously nice jigs! I'm sure many of you here on BR have used the Siebert jigs before I did, but if you've not gotten around to ordering your own, this would be the week to get them, while most of the country is experiencing some kind of unseasonable weather (this is looking at you enviously southwest region/FL tip members). I was fortunate enough to receive the stocking stuffer pack that he advertised as a Christmas gift, and since then I've bought a couple more, and to say these are excellent jigs would be an understatement. The quality and craftsmanship are second to none. The color selection is quite vast and should adequately cover any forage replication you're seeking. His prices are competitive and the speed of shipping is refreshingly fast once he's got your jig(s) built. Additionally, Mike is always ready to give tips and advice on jig tips, trailer recommendations, and answers technique questions quickly, he knows his stuff. As far as a business man, Mike is a true pro. His customer support is impeccable and is always quick to get back with me on any communication I send his way. Answers are thourough and concise. Do yourself and your fishing season a favor and order some of his jigs! www.siebertoutdoors.com

  16. Tips? Plastics come in all shapes, colors and sizes. There are a number of applications for plastics. No way we can give you all of the information on plastics. What we can give you is a suggestion to make a list of the presentations and go to YouTube and watch the videos. It is also important to watch BassResource's YouTube videos. As you find out the names of the baits and presentations go to a pond and practice, practice, practice. It is not important if you catch anything. What is important is that you perfect the technique. Look through this Forum for names of techniques, such as drop shot, shaky head, Texas rig, Carolina rig, flip and pitch, etc. Then read, read and read some more about each technique and the baits that are suggested to be used with that specific technique. Good luck on your quest to be the best bass fisherman you can be. It is a lot of and we all have traveled the journey you will be taking. So be patient, watch those YouTube videos and read, read and read some more.

  22. For enthusiasts, technique specific gear is fun to collect. However, three rigs cover all the basics: #1 6 1/2' or 7' MH baitcaster for jigs, some soft plastics and spinnerbaits #2 6 1/2' or 7' MM baitcaster for treble hook lures #3 7' MF spinning rod for lighter lures and a variety of techniques

  23. I own more bluegill and black skirted spinners than white/chart ones. I just don't throw them as often because the pike destroy them. I will normally throw them in the shallows and around docks as mentioned for bass. Out in the open around weed flats is typically where the water wolves start to claim them from me so I don't throw them out there too much.

  31. I echo what has been said above. I own the last models of HPT TE 7.0:1 reels before they became the KVD reels and it's my absolute favorite reel next to my Smoke SL100HPT. I also own 2 Code reels and as long as I keep up with maintenance, they are workhorses. I even own a lower end Nitro that I use for top-water fishing and I really can't complain about it. The Higher end reels are definitely the way to go and I agree that Quantum doesn't get enough love. IMHO for the price a lot of their reels can't be beat. I think the case with the Smokes is that they need to be lubed before you use them. When I bought my Smoke reel it screamed, but I brought it home, put some hot sauce in it, and haven't had a problem since.

  33. Myrtle Beach, SC. June 1985. We (4-18 year old boys) are sitting on the strip, parked, in my 442, top down, "minding our own business". Barney Fife in a cop golf cart comes up and starts flappin his jaws so I politely invite him to mind his own business. 4 hours later, after being introduced to several of Barneys, "friends", getting a tour of the MB Justice complex, and hanging out in a small iron room with some fellas who needed a bath, we were allowed to leave SC. I was told by a very nice man in a blue uniform that "If I ever see you boys again, (spit) you ain't gonna be leavin so soon that time". I'm not exactly sure what that meant but I have not been to back MB since.

  36. My sister in laws wedding. Which i did NOT want to go to in the first place. I was told by my wife that the Raiders Jersey I was gonna wear to the rehearsal dinner was tacky. So I went out and bought a Bear Bryant hat and a Alabama tye dye shirt in a size large. It may have been a women's shirt I'm really not sure. Anyway. I strolled up to the rehearsal dinner in that outfit. Her family as well as my wife liked to kill me. They are huge Auburn fans. I ended up splitting the shirt off myself after I made my escape. Anyway the next day I showed up to the wedding wearing a crimson sweater vest and white shirt, complete with my hat. The bride to be threw a shoe at me and started crying. Yet again I made a hasty retreat. I have not been MADE to go to anymore family functions since then.

  38. A shorter list would probably be the places I have NOT been asked to leave from. But in the spirit of the thread a short list. I have been escorted from, asked to leave, and or thrown out of. More bars then I can count on one hand. Two or three shopping malls, including a 2 year ban from one. A Chinese restaurant. 1 Outback Steak house. Ruth's Chris and Shulas Steak house, extremely expensive places they are. 2 Walmarts, 1 Burger King, 5 McDonalds, 1 Subway. A county Courthouse, a city jail lobby, the steps in front of a federal courthouse(skateboarding), Auburn University as a whole, a history and a English class at Auburn University, numerous buildings at Auburn University. Those are all I can think of at the current moment. Ohhhhhh I forgot. 2 Taco Bells.

  39. I am addicted to fishing offshore. I rarely, very rarely, fish a bank anymore. Offshore just offers so much more than a bank. Everyone can see the same things on a bank but not so offshore. First off, you need decent electronics with gps. I've tried the old "Ok, line up with the camp with the red door, that big rock and that huge pine with the broken limb"...it don't work. You just can't find that VW size spot again without gps. Second, I have found that deeper, offshore fish seem less affected by pressure changes than shallower, shoreline fish. When the bite slows down on a bank, I can go to humps and continue whackin em. It just seems easier to find biting fish on humps than down a shoreline.

  44. I'm not rich. LOL My family is warm, happy and well fed. If I have a few bucks left over to buy something of value, so be it. As long as I'm not throwing the price in your face or saying you are less of a person because you choose not to purchase those things, then what does it really matter? I appreciate the time and effort that swimbait makers put into their product. In my eyes, they are dedicating their effort to help me catch bigger fish. Are they making a buck? Sure, you would want to make some money in that situation too. Don't get it twisted though. Break it down into hourly rate, taking into consideration all the R&D, carving, pouring, fine tuning and you'll see that it's probably comparable to what you make hourly or more likely less. The guys who REALLY know what they are doing (perfect example is the guy a couple posts above me) can honestly command a higher price than they are currently charging. Have you ever seen the second-hand swimbait market, affectionately known to most of us as the Black Market? I'll agree that it's ridiculous what some people will pay for a hard to get bait. If manufacturers based their pricing on what people would really pay for a bait, THEN you'd see some craziness. Fish what you want and what makes you happy.

  45. The guys who use those expensive swimbaits are hunting big bass. My biggest bass before I started using swimbaits was 8lbs 10 oz. On a plastic worm. I caught hundreds of bass over 5 lbs and had lost a couple bigger then the 8.10. After I started using swimbaits I started catching bigger bass. I now hove probably caught 300 over 7lbs and probably 40 over 10lbs with my biggest at 17lbs 2oz cought on a swimbait all on highly pressured public lakes. The guys who know what they are doing, who fish these expensive swimbaits know they are worth every penny when they consistently catch bigger bass then they have ever caught before. You can argue that you once caught a big bass on a crank or spinner bait etc. My argument is that the seasoned swimbaits catch big bass consistently. If a tool (expensive bait) produces bigger bass consistently then its worth a lot more then an ordinary bait that catches ordinary bass. Sometimes big bass prefer cheaper baits like big worms or jigs. I will throw them when I think I should. But other times I think they want a swimbait so I will throw them. Different tools for different situations. comparing a $5 crank bait to a $100 swimbait is like comparing a screw driver to a hammer.
