  1. Sam & Becky are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and Sam says to Becky "Becky, I was wondering... Have you ever cheated on me?" Becky replies, "Oh Sam, why would you ask such a question now? You don't want to ask that question..." "Yes, Becky, I really want to know. Please..." "Well, all right. Yes, 3 times..." "Three, hmmm, well when were they?" as his face turned red, but realizing he had pressured her... "Well, Sam, remember when you were 35 years old and you really wanted to start the business on your own and no bank would give you a loan? Remember, then one day the bank president himself came over the house and signed the loan papers, no questions asked?" "Oh, Becky, you did that for me! I respect you even more than ever, to do such a thing for me.... So when was number 2?" "Well, Sam, remember when you had that last heart attack and you were needing that very tricky operation, and no surgeon would touch you? Then remember how Dr. DeBakey came all the way up here to do the surgery himself and then you were in good shape again?" "I can't believe it!! Becky, you should do such a thing for me, to save my life... I couldn't have a more wonderful wife... To do such a thing, you must really love me darling... I couldn't be more moved... So, all right then, when was number 3?" "Well, Sam, remember a few years ago, when you really wanted to be president of the fishing club .... And you were 17 votes short....

  4. If someone would have told me I wouldn't be fishing for a year or more two years ago, I would have been uptight. After that coming to pass to deal with my son's brain tumor and my wife's cancer, fishing just doesn't seem so important. My buddy doesn't quite seem to fully understand. I would rather spend a day with my wife, my children and my grandchildren than fish. If the opportunity presents itself.....I'm going but I've never had a bass tell me " I love you " or kissed one good night.

  5. NOT the same action. I unless you're using an elaztech plastic or other floating worm, the bait trailing a carolina rig is dragging behind the rig on the bottom. Its simple physics. It doesn't "float up" above the weight; thats nonsense. A drop shot bait is suspended off the bottom, and can be wiggled in place indefinately. I prefer the drop shot, and I often drag it like a carolina rig. However a carolina rig is better for covering deep water quickly. Both excel at feeling bottom composition. As for your question: it depends. if the fish are scattered across a 15ft flat, I'd toss the c-rig. however, if those fish are relating to vertical structure, or if they're in a specific area, drop 'em. My $.02.

  7. Minding my own business as I walked down the aisle at the Richmond Fishing Expo and there was the MegaStrike booth with Bobby, Billy Boy and the big guy (I forgot his name). Bobby welcomed me like a long lost friend and showed me his new products which were fantastic. Picked up three tubes of original MegaStrike; some outstanding spinnerbaits; and a bunch of his new plastics; plus some ShakeyE2 heads. Dropped over $115and enjoyed doing it. Now I have a reason to look forward to the Dogwoods blooming and hitting the water in March. Thanks Bobby, you are a super guy and I am glad to know you.

  8. You can use a 3500 for "finesse", but realize that term is debatable. Just about any lure can be "finessed" on any setup. If you're strictly talking light baits, light line, I personally feel the 3500 size is big. But realize I prefer smaller reels. I'd pick a 3500 size for in-shore saltwater stuff. I do most of my bass fishing with 1000 size Stradics, and a 2000 size Lexa. I caught the 6.6 pounder in my avatar on one of the Stradics. Plenty of power to land a fish of that size and larger (which I have caught on same reels). I've never lost a fish due to the reel being underpowered. What I'd look for is to balance your rod and reel together where YOU feel most comfortable. If you like the 3500 size, then put it on several different rods at your local BPS to better help you get the feel.

  9. It can take some kids longer to finally get the picture than others. It is a normal progression. When an individual "blossoms" it can be early in high school, after high school or in their 30's. Have faith in your daughter. She is where she is supposed to be on her life path and it is great to read she is in school and wants to join the medical industry. I know you and your family are proud of her decision and hopefully everyone will support her to her graduation. Just remember Sonny, she will be the one to pick out your nursing home!!!

  15. No one in this town could catch any fish except this one man The game warden asked him how he did it so the man told the game warden that he would take him fishing the next day... Once they got to the middle of the lake the man took out a stick of dynamite, lit it, and threw it in the water. After the explosion fish started floating to the top of the water. The man took out a net and started picking up the fish. The game warden told him that this was illegal. The man took out another stick of dynamite and lit it. He then handed it to the game warden and said " are you going to fish or talk?"

  16. My girlfriend doesn't share the same obsession I have for fishing but she respects it and, I'm sure, she'd rather I fish than carouse at the bars or get in trouble in other ways. She will often find a tree under which she will read or sew while I do my thing. And sometimes she'll ask to borrow a pole. I always celebrate when she catches something. When I occassionally bring a stringer of bluegill home, she's a terrific cook (so long as I do the cleaning). And she never gives me grief when I wander aimlessly around a sporting goods store for hours. I CAN tell you that if she weren't in my life, I'd be out fishing a LOT more often than I am now but that's one of the tradeoffs of being in the relationship.

  17. Like many of us, there have been times over the years when I have put fishing ahead of more important things. When I look back at some of my selfish behavior I am saddened and ashamed by it. With that said, fishing is an important part of what makes me tick. Finding balance in all things is how maturity is defined, I think.

  26. I have two boats and 7 Walmart Everstart group 29 batteries. Money is not a concern for me in batteries and I still choose Wal-mart. I have only had one problem. I was on vacation, in BFE Georgia, on Sunday when I lost a battery. Went to Walmart Sunday night and they swapped it out no questions asked. Try doing that with any other brand.

  27. Har Har. I own a Fluke multi meter, a Fluke megger, and a Fluke graphing multi meter. I used to have a Fluke process multi meter as well. That one had to be given back to a former employer. I also own a Ideal Amp Clamp that is retired now. It was the first meter I ever owned. Also us Sparkys get to terminate the wires too. Dumb Pipe Fighter!

  35. i was lucky enough to have been born into a family with generations of outdoorsmen and women. From starting out with a cane pole/worm at Shingle Creek, to meering my now husband, who mentioned he'd used to fish FLW and ran the Teen Angler tournaments, but was without a boat at the time. Figuring this was something besides our horseback activities, that we could both do, I bought a boat. After fishing a year on a tournament trail, we downscaled to a smaller couples club and a local weekend series. I would often go out on the boat by myself when he had to work weekends. most time to famiiarize myself with that darn foot control trolling motor, and other times to locate fish. While I was doing that, I met a lot of fishermen out there, very few were rude, and the vast majority displaying positive remarks about a "lady fisherman". Often to the point of telling me what they were using and where they had some success.(thank you to the elderly gentlemen in the johnboat on Shingle creek). Since then my husband and I have made numerous friends through fishing, that we wouldn't have met otherwise. My husband is VERY competitive, even more so now, since we are now sitting 3rd in the year end standings in the weekend tournament trail against some 26 +, very good fishermen, and we are the only husband/wife team. Its a lake draw tournament, with no size excemptions, So if we draw a particular "stingy, tough" lake, I keep saying "just put our heads down and fish" , when he would start getting frustrated at the lack of bites. I just look at it as a challenge and it rubs off on him, he gets less frustrated and just "fishes". So fishing has helped our relationship grow, and expanded relationships with others. We now upgraded to our "retirement boat", being the last one we will ever purchase (unless we win lotto) and put everything on it we could afford. So if you are ever in the central Fla area and see a couple on a white/siver Phoenix, shout out a "howdy".

  36. You should see the one I made. It shoves a grenade down their throat and then unclips the hook, the fish swimming away then pulls the pin. When that fish gets back to the school theyve all been bamboozled. KAPOOW, then you just drive around and collect your winning limit. Yeah, youll have penalties for dead fish but no one else will even have a fish when theyre all dead.

  37. Over the years bassresource has seen numerous members come and go for many different reasons, some are missed, while others not so much. Four or five years ago I meet Jack (fishfordollars) Yates on this site; we sent PMs back and forth, texted each other, talked on the phone and eventually met in person to fish a tournament. After talking that day we figured out we both drag raced the same circuit, fished the same tournament trails, lived in the same neighborhoods in Houston and Lake Charles. We only fished together 3-4 times but y'all want talk about fun fishing, that's what fishing with Jack was! Jack passed away suddenly on January 18, 2011 while talking to his wife on the phone. His passing devastated Long Mike, me, and others here who had grow close to Jack. I found out later from his wife that the friendships he made here both in person and online helped change his entire outlook on life. Fishing And Relationships! Yea I know one! ROLL TIDE BUDDY

  38. I am with you on the ice fishing.I gave it a shot 4-5 times with an elder friend of mine who had all the gear and equipment and unfortunately we never had much success locating any fish.My friend has since passed and this time of year i always reflect back about him and all his stories he had about his life and his views and opinions on different topics,he should have written a book with some of the stories he had.I remember the first time we went out ice fishing together he starts telling me about this coleman kerosene lantern he grabbed out of his neighbors garbage that he brought along to warm up the fishing tent with. My friend never had much money so all his equipment was always beat up and used and his fishing tent wasn't in the greatest shape either, the first thing i noticed was the inside zipper handle was missing on my side which made it a chore for me to grab with cold finger tips and unzip when i had to get out.So were sitting in his canvas tent and he put his new lantern find on his knee and starts pumping it and he didn't notice the kerosene dripping and running down his knee until he lit the lantern and his knee started on fire along with the lantern. Neither of us panicked but i am thinking great,i am sitting on the side with no zipper handle while he engulfs us both in kerosene flames...lol. He put his knee fire out after a couple of seconds so it wasn't a big deal, but he had me shaking my head with his new frugal find that almost burned down his fishing tent. My wife will fish with me every now and then.I remember one time when we were out in my pond prowler and she had to go pee bad, i told her to hang on for a minute until i could pass up some of these other guys in front of me and pull into this secluded cove so she could climb out and go. There wasn't much shoreline so she opted to strip to her panties and jump into the shallow water and pee. In the process of jumping out of the boat she somehow got her crankbait treble hook lodged in her panties...lol. I was laughing because she is standing out in the open in her panties racing to get this hook barb out of her underwear before the guys we just passed caught up to us.We got it out in the nick of time but we were laughing so hard the whole time.

  39. Over the years I have had a lot of friends that didn't fish and only a few that did. Now, every single one of them does. On the woman side, I started dating a girl 7 years ago. At the time I told myself i'd never get serious unless I met a girl that hunted/fished. Well it turns out she already loved to bass fish and after dating her for a short time I had her shooting deer with a bow. Over the years we have spent many of days in the boat or up in the deer stand. It makes for a great life when your significant other enjoys the same passions as yourself. I ended up proposing to her on the front deck of my Ranger boat and just married her just this past August. Priorities my friend

  40. The lady friend goes with most times. If its a lake I don't know and I expect a long day of working on casting technique she might stay home. As far as friends go, the ones I've brought along fishing, the friendship seems deeper. Fishing is MY time, and I think they realize that by taking them along, they mean something to me. Now I feel all sappy, thanks.

  43. I wouldn't waste good fluorocarbon as backing. Use a cheap mono. The quality of backing doesn't affect your casting. You can use tape but you will use more braid then needed BUT you can also flip it next season and have brand new braid again. Either way will be fine.

  46. Is there any real place for super glue in lure making besides maybe temporarily gluing feathers onto a hook shaft before tying them in place? It just seems like super glue bonds on lures might not last long term. I ask because one of my potential lure designs calls for a worm weight fixed to a shaft, as a spinnerbait or buzzbait head, and due to color schemes on it, I don't want the head to spin on the shaft. Super glue on the shaft and then the weight slid on over it so it goes inside of the hole is the only solution I can think of aside from just pouring my own or buying them premade, neither of which I want to do mostly due to costs. Worm weights glued to wire is cheaper and gives me the look I want. EDIT: Did a search and found that the gel type glue can be used on lures. Gel is what I was thinking of using anyway, unless I needed to pour some down the hole from the concave side of the weight to make sure it got plenty inside the hole. Mostly I read it being used for weed guards glued into jig heads. In that case the glue is just holding something light weight glued to lead. What about cases where the lead is glued to something else? Would throwing it around and having its weight pulling against the bond make it work loose over time?

  47. Since before I could remember. I have 4 older brothers and my dad took us all hunting and fishing all the time. He couldnt afford any hobbies besides fishing. We all had second hand gear and had a blast with it. We fished for everything. Usually the days started with bass fishing, but by the end of the trip we would be catfishing and going after just about anything. Spend a lot of time on the Mississippi north of St. Louis fishing. My brothers were always draggin me along on their various adventures. I got to do and see a lot of cool stuff as a kid. We all still fish together to this day.
