  2. If by pro, you mean an Elite, I'd recommend you go to a seminar, and see how the pros think. The thought process they have towards fishing is completely different than most of us. Maybe it's because fishing feeds their family, or maybe it's because they're just that much better than the rest of us. I consider myself a decent fisherman, and I'm a veteran fisherman. Nothing beats time on the water. As far as being pro, I don't think like a pro, therefore I will never be a pro.

  6. Your Tundra has the electronic shift on the console. No substitute for cubic inches. The 5.7 is bulletproof, and performance from a 5500lb truck has been compared to a 3 series Beemer. Add a TRD supercharger and it bumps the hp over 500. Shoehorn that into a 2000lb chassis and you'd have one heck of a ride

  8. so Mizzo fans are claiming ALL the SEC NC now? its funny how Mizzo is normally an 8-4ish ball club but now MIZZO is some powerhouse because they are in the SEC? The SEC brainwashing is clearly severe. I hold no ill will towards MIZZO fans, as they have a good enough program to be proud of, but leading SEC chants after one year is a bit "sellout".

  9. Totally awesome!!!! Those fish represent the reason why we fish for smallmouth bass! I've never caught smallies that big. I've had several of good days however, with maybe 40 bass each of us, between 2 1/2 - 4 1/2 lbs. on the Quabbin. And on two separate days we landed (and released) a "quad". That's two bass on float rigged Senkos and two on the drop shot - all at the same time - while anchored on a deep shelf. (We are allowed two rods per person here.) Talk about a frenzied fire drill! Smallies are GREAT!

  10. The Aruku Shad is better in rocks or cover where deflection is key. It has a much broader head than the Redeye, and the faster you reel it, the lower the head dips and protects the hooks from hanging up. I prefer it for working rip rap and boulders. The stock hooks on both are fine. While the finish on the Aruku Shad is more durable than the Redeye, it is subject to getting beat up, like any other bait - if you're doing it right Results of doing it right....

  18. A couple of suggestions to the basic rig. One is to use a Carolina Keeper above the knot on the mainline as a bumper to protect the knot and the other is to use a mono leader of less strength (lb. test) than your mainline of braid or FC.

  19. I was fishing in Saltonstall when you were about 10. I recognized the lake in the background of your Avatar. Anyway send me a PM if you want to know where to start on the Lake after ice-out. Man, I miss Saltonstall so much. I moved back to Rhode Island eight years ago. I used to fish it every day I could possibly get on the lake or walk the banks. Even at night. WOW!. There's some absolute giants in there. It's about 100 ft. deep on the West side

  20. Very cool! I like the sled head idea. It makes sense, too. If a bass is looking up for prey, and it sees the detail of the swimbait as it moves below the surface, they should knock the snot out of it!

  22. Many times I've left mono on all winter and used it the following year with no problem. It was stored properly, in a cool basement, not exposed to the elements.

  24. Tilapia will definitely NOT survive in Indiana. In fact, during cold spells in central Florida we get heavy tilapia diebacks. They are not at all invasive, in fact, Florida lakes with strong tilapia populations produce some of the heaviest bass in the state (bass love tilapia as much as alligators love bass). Roger

  25. I use Yo-Zuri for nearly all my applications. I do have braid on a few rods, some nylon mono here and there, and flouro on an NRX rod, but by and large I use YZ for most casting and spinning setups. Why? Mostly cost vs. performance. YZ is not necessarily the ideal line for any particular application...but it's a cost effective and "good enough" line for most applications. Strong, good abrasion resistance, inexpensive. I just counted and right now I have line on 51 reels - 32 of those reels have Yo-Zuri. With that many reels ready to go, having a standardized, cost-effective "go-to" line, purchased in bulk, realizes considerable savings...

  26. I went fishing at the FBI building and another place. I caught 4 at the FBI pond on a 10inch worm, biggest being around 3lbs. Caught 5 at the other place, 2 on a 7.5 in worm. Caught 2 at the same time on my rapala. Then landed a nice one that's was about to pop.

  28. I caught a couple on a BPS Stick bait, on number 1 Gami Ewg hook and 1/16 weight. I caught another couple on a bait called the slick willy, its 5" long. MCS, remember the contest I won at the other site? That bait was the prize, a sample pack. I also caught the other 2 fish on a zoom centipede.

  30. No, it was funny. My cousin did that to me when we were saltwater fishing. I got all excited and then laughed. Great punk. What I always wanted to do was to use a rebreather and get in the water, pick up the plastic worm like it was being hit by a big bass, fight the fisherman like it is a big bass and then take a dink I have with me and put it on his hook and let it go as the bass that was making such a big fight. Now that would be funny.

  31. Berkley Hollow-Belly flank-rigged on Owner Sled Head (BOTTOM VIEW) Gambler Big EZ flank-rigged on Gamakatsu Swimbait Hook (SIDE VIEW) The lakes we fish in central Florida are all shallow & weedy, where 'weedlessness' is a bigger issue than depth. In fact, I begin the retrieve upon splashdown without any waiting period. Fished in this manner, the head weight has surprisingly little affect on the running depth (measured in inches). Given a choice, I'll opt for a lighter head which has less momentum, is more easily deflected and therefore less likely to skewer a stalk. Also, the swimbait has a little more action with a lighter head. Although you're maintaining a slow, steady retrieve, the swimbait is bouncing around in the pads with an erratic track. When pike fishing over submerged cabbage beds, a much heavier head is needed along with a waiting period while the lure sinks. When weights over 1/2 oz are needed it eliminates the use of Swimbait Hooks which rarely exceed 1/2 oz. Roger

  32. My favorite was Gamma. Now I don't fish the hybrid lines as much anymore. If I had to pick one today Yo-zuri is a solid choice for price to performance.

  35. Thinking back, I was around 4 years old which would make it 1946. Dad didn't own a boat at the time, so we bank-fished for catfish in Passaic River, NJ. For rod rests, dad jammed 'Y' shaped branches into the mud bank, and some 67 years later the smell of that black muddy bank is still in my nose. Roger

  38. All days on the water are truely a gift from above but those days where you know the wife is happy and everyone is healthy and things kind of just come together are the awesome ones. Rain or shine, tourney or not....there are just those days when the eagles are flying, the fish are bitin, ya got a good lunch and ya got good company. Tight Lines

  39. I agree that it isn't a great "heavy cover" frog due to the above mentioned lip. As also stated by Mark it is a fantastic open water type frog, it's easy to walk and the extra "spitting action" really is different. I don't have very many pads on the lake I typically fish but there is a ton of grass and this thing is great around the outside edges or in holes or lanes. I've found it to be very effective around wood and worked over points very much like you would a spook. I've got most of the colors but I can say, with a whole summer using them, Dirty White, Poison, and I Know It are the colors I got the most bites on. Also IMHO the 55 size isn't nearly as well thought out or designed as the 70. It is very tough for me to get them (55) to walk correctly for any amount of distance, I think this is due to them not being weighted exactly right, though this may just be me as I've not heard anyone else say they're having trouble with the 55.

  40. Well, this is my biggest bass of 2013. Came on Lake Kincaid (southern Illinois) in march on a 1/2oz Dirty Jigs California swim jig in Tactical Shad with a pearl white Roboworm Ocean tail swimbait trailer. Ended up catch 2 more over 5 on that 3 day trip. One more on this setup and the other on a Mattlures gill. My buddy in the back landed 4.5 on a shadalicious swimbait. Good trip.

  41. So, you pay $25 for one day plus maybe splitting the gas and bring lunch? The boater bought the boat, maintains the boat, stores the boat, hauls the boat and probably cleans the boat. I think that's a great deal for YOU, not so much for the boater.

  42. Well Search isn't working, so I can't tell if this has been posted or not. But who really cares anyway........... A RETIREE'S LAST TRIP TO PUBLIX Yesterday I was at the Villages' (an area north of Orlando full of retirees) Publix (our large food chain in Florida) buying a large bag of Purina dog chow for my loyal pet, Owen, the Wonder Dog and was in the check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. What did she think I had an elephant? So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse, I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way that it works is, to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete, (certified), so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I had stopped to pee on a fire hydrant and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Publix won't let me shop there anymore. Better watch what you ask retired people. They have all the time in the World to think of crazy things to say.
