  1. Not sure that this is where to place this post, but in the show we describe the use and techniques to create Rage Crab Flippin Magic Flippin Fla Mangroves for Big REDS... Yep FLIPPIN Reds, The NEW Deal and I felt like Columbus did when he discovered America At first, we were casting the Rage Crabs to oyster beds in hopes that a scouring red might pick it up. When we hung the jig in the shells, we would have to pull up and pop it loose Nearing the Mangroves I would pitch the bait in them and get BLASTED... This became the NORM and a NEW show was BORN. I promise, I went FLIPPIN CRAZY and for all of us FLIPPIN' CRAZY Bass Fishermen... This IS the REAL NEW DEAL and the waters are Fertile and waiting for us to Rip and Snort.... WOOOOOOP Hope you learn a little bit and have fun watching! Gypsy Angler Ray Van Horn and I WRECK Big Reds Flippin' Mangroves in the Everglades on The Sportsman Channel. Air Time: Saturday 9:30am, Monday 1:30pm & Friday 7:30am EST.. http://youtu.be/TXFeBRcRJTA

  4. Exactly why I won't join a club. I prefer team tournaments, 2 guys working together, instead of 2 guys fishing against each other.

  5. I use a lot of "pure" leader material in the Orvis "Mirage" fluoro tippet in 0X (16.5 pound-test) to 3X (9.2 pound test) - super stiff and strong - just amazing abrasion resistance. For fishing suspending jerkbaits in clear water I'll use nothing less than the 1X - it's the same diameter as most 10-pound test fluoro but it's 14.5 - I think it's stronger, actually. Regular filler spool fluoro is NOT the same thing by any stretch.

  7. Today I set the hook on what I thought would be a free replica fish. New rod is loaded up. I move to the back deck to lip her easier only to see the ugliest 15 lb catfish with my jig in its mouth!! Oh well, the adrenaline was kicking hard for a bit! I caught 2 yesterday. A 13" Kentucky and one that was close to 8 lbs. connection here sucks so I can't post the pic. Fog was horrible today.

  9. Same goals as 2013...........and really every year. #1 Have fun.......if it's not fun, it's not worth being out there #2 No expensive break downs, that would put a big hurting on #1 #3 Spend time on the water with my kids #4 Don't hook myself, or fall in the water The fishing will take care of it's self as long as I am in the right place at the right time.

  10. Like others have said, no need to buy Leader-specific spool. Filler spools will cost less for a lot more, thus lasting you a long time as a leader material. I'm pretty simple with my setups: Spinning: 10 lb braid Leaders anywhere from 6-15 lb test Casting: 20 lb braid Leaders anywhere from 10-15 lb test

  14. I totally agree that parents should be role models and for the most part they are but if you are trying to be an athlete yo hare going to look up to those players unless of course your dad played pro ball. It's a tough one for sure and it will be interesting to see how it all plays out because so far, the majority of the rood era people are not getting nearly the amount of votes. Bonds is a tricky one though because he has never been proven to be dirty but all indications are that he was...which is sad because he was truly HOF worthy prior to this whole PED explosion.

  16. I had this surgery done back in 1997 or so. It is no doubt a painful surgery, there is no way to kill the pain in the bone and it will be sore for up to a year. With that said the best thing I done was got it out of the sling and started making myself use it for everyday tasks, getting that range of motion back as soon as possible is the key to a quick recovery. Best of luck, I am happy I had mine done.

  17. Bassmaster Jan/Feb 2014 issue, Go For Reaction question answered by Elite angler Micheal Simonton. According to Simonton he gets reaction bites in water 33 to 35 degrees slow rolling spinnerbaits. I don't dought that his surface temp reads these temps, however bottom bumping deep structure, the water isn't that cold. This type of Q & A misleads bass anglers to think bass live in 33 to 35 degree water. Bass breath dissolved oxygen DO and can't servive if the DO levels are lower than 3 mg/L or higher than 12 mg/L. 32 degree water the DO is 14.6, too high DO and the water is solid. At 40 degrees the DO levels can be 12.7 mg/L a little above what bass can tolerate, however decaying aquatic plants and matter can lower the DO levels to a comfortable level. There isn't any reason for bass to locate in 33 to 38 degree water for more than a few minutes. When the water temps drop below 45 degrees, the bass will try to find the warmest water they can servive in. Tom

  19. Good luck buddy ... Had a friend do this and he was a million bucks after it was all said and done (rehab etc.). Just be patient and don't force yourself to do too much too soon. The fish will be there when you are ready.

  21. Mine would be a hope not a goal, I don't have any control of what's swimming by. While I'm still able to walk, lol, I'd like to hook any kind of fish that will strip out 200 yds of line (without opening my bail) chase it on foot down the beach stepping over rocks for a half mile and land it. That will be my greatest catch and my last fish, I'll retire.

  23. I didn't think Mike McClellend made the Classic this year. You may be right, I have to admit that I did not check the field. I am just use to him being there, he did have marginal season last year and may not have made it in. Well at any rate, I hope he pulls off a big win this year.

  28. Thoughts and prayers are with you. I've had a couple shoulder surgeries but not the one your getting. I'm waiting to get a 3rd to reattach torn muscles to my shoulder blade. Shoulder surgery has the most difficult and intensive recovery of other orthopedic surgeries because the joint is so complicated. Stick to the PT and do the exercises at home. Good Luck

  29. Do whatever you're most comfortable with. Not everyone wants/likes to fish 10# test, especially Power Pro given it is only 2# diameter equivalent. That's a seriously thin line. I have had a few wind knots with 10#. They're a pain. Bowing can certainly be an issue, but I (try to) keep the casts low trajectory and put the rod tip down right away. As for "snapping", yes, it can. I've caught some big bass with knots in the line, drag and playing the fish were the solutions. I've also snagged a number of times, but the line is very tough to break on a steady pull. I've straightened hooks on many different leaders. Quick, hard jerks of the line is a different force on the line and can snap it at the knots, or any abraded spots. Of course this isn't 100% of the time. Steady pulls can snap at the knots, too, depends... Just my experiences with the line. 20# goes on my baitcasting gear, light by some standards, but more than strong enough to bring in some big fish, logs, and waterlogged boots. My PB was caught on an older BC I've got that I had spooled with 10lb Fireline + 10lb YoZuri Hybrid leader, caught the 7.5 beastie who came in with another couple pounds of thick salad slop. Lines held up fantastically. You sound like you've got a good plan with what you want to do. That's what's important. Fish like YOU want to, not how I do it. But if you have a few minutes, this might give you some additional insight, from Gary Yamamoto: http://www.insideline.net/weeklynews/2008/08-0529.html. It helped me.

  30. This is how I sight fish reds when they are close to the boat. Big difference in a 8lb bass and 8lb red, those things will take you or your rod into the water. They also love a bass creature bait, actually when they want to eat I don't think it matters what piece of plastic is in front of their nose. When they're picky though they can be a real pain.

  33. Did you get a higher gear ratio reel then you had? ( new 7:2:1 il bet!) Or was his lower? That makes a ton of difference in retrieve speed and is key many times. For instance it's pretty hard to slow down your retrieve speed on a 6:2:1 reel when you should be using a 5:2:1. I'd wager it's impossible. You'll go back to cranking at a rate that feels nature sooner or later. I've seen the difference in my catches over the years as the reels have gotten faster and faster. I've got to slow down some.

  34. I for one do not ask for money. As I stated in the last one... if a non-boater offers and insists... I will but I do not expect or require payment. I will be out there no matter what. I do agree with the break it/buy it rule. Just common sense. I would prefer Smith Mountain as we did Anna before but will not quibble over it. Fishing is fishing.

  35. To be serious, the winter reminds me of how precious every moment I get to spend on the beautiful Minnesota lakes truly is. I vow to stop and smell the roses this summer. When I step into my boat and start up the Merc and run across the lake to throw some early morning poppers on my favorite lake point and see the LMB explode or when I pitch a frog into the lilies just to watch it disappear with a gulp from below, I will stop and thank the lord above for such a privilege.

  40. Same. I had a 7'10" for deep, but storage in my rod locker was an issue, so I went back to 7'6", which is what I had before, and it fits much better. I can cast just as far with the 7'6" as the 7'10" so that's not an issue.

  41. I think that's the perfect size boat. I had one like that and thought I needed a bigger one. The one I have now is a very nice boat but I sure wish I had my old one back. Bigger isn't always better.

  44. I've taken my curado spool and put it into my citica and I notices the difference. It's start up a fair amount faster but IMHO the metal pins are what I like. I had my citica break a pin on it's spool. I've also added the drive shaft bearing last week and it's smoother. However I haven't gotten a chance to get out on the water and put it under a load yet. You might want to think about replacing the spool bearings with some ABEC 7 bearings rather then spending 40$ on replacing the spool as well. This would also cause the spool to start up faster.
