  1. I know what you mean Hootie. I have one 15 minutes away. This time of year with sub zero temps and cabin fever i have been known to go there with a handkerchief and sit in front of the giant fish tank and cry while all the little kids stare at me from a distance.

  5. I got one of these red and white things called a bobber or something! I haven't used one yet but have seen a lot in the trees at the lakes I fish at! I'm not positive but I think you throw it in a tree and let your lure enter the water from there for a more natural presentation. I am stoked to try this technique this year!

  6. I really love the Strike King line of crankbaits. The 3XD, 5XD, and 6XD will take care of the 10-20ft range. The 3 and 4 series will take care of the shallower 3-10 ft. depth. I use any of the Shad colors, Sexy Shad, Citrus Shad, Sexy Chartreuse Shad, Gizzard Shad etc. I have a couple of other colors I use but can't remember what they are but I don't use them as much anyway. Also I have had good luck with the Bandit 200 series crankbaits for the 4-8 ft depth range. However I have really started to use Strike KIng almost exclusively.

  17. This is great to hear! Thank you! Because if I have to sift through 3,000 listings of hunting shows anymore to find a decent fishing show I'm going to go berserk. I have nothing against hunting at all but holy crap you guys get spoiled with shows. I'm not ponying up for WFN with Comcast, they can go.... But, it is the new year and hopefully the pre-spring fishing shows start back up between NBCSports and Outdoor Channel.

  18. WOW!!! Great stories and pics on this thread! My best day happened in March 2013. I was fishing a small tournament on KY Lake with a good friend of mine. I knew we were on some good fish but a mega school of smallmouth pulled up on my spot this day. While our competion was out slinging A-Rigs, I was jerk-pluggin' 4-5 lb. smallies and a couple of big green fish showed up for the party too! We ended up with 5 fish weighing 26.82 lbs. We threw around 20 smallmouth back ranging from 3-4 lbs. I did have 2 fish straighten the hooks on my jerkbait and 1 broke my line.

  20. I just got in an order from Tackle Warehouse. This was an order for giant plastic worms! 1. Zoom O'L Monster. I didn't know it when I ordered but Walmart and the local Gander Mountain carries these. If I had known that I would not have ordered them from Tackle Warehouse. 2.Yum 10.5 inch Mighty Worm. Oh Yeah! I can't wait to try this one out this spring. I'm a big fan of Yum worms. I Love Yum! My favorite is the five inch Yum-Dinger. I can't want to use this giant sized Yum! The next two brands are new to me: 3. Mann's 12 inch jelly worm. I heard Mann's was the first mass produced popular U.S. plastic worm and very popular up to the 1980s. I can't wait to try this big worm out too. 4. NetBait 15" C-Mac. I've never used NetBait lures before but read about these worms and so I figured I would give them a try. They are fifteen inches and the largest worms in my whole fishing collection. There is just something about collecting and using plastic worms that is fun fun fun! I know some of you love jigs and crankbaits. But for me the number one and only lure worth throwing is the plastic worm! They are awsome, sexy, pretty, cool, neat, effective, productive, cheap, easy to use, and they catch bass! I'm pumped even though we just got five inches of snow. Three more months till we get to April. I really hope spring arrives here sooner than normal.

  24. I think A-Jay knows me too well. I would not feel guilty about harvesting a new state record. I have always practiced catch & release on smallies but that fish because of the logistics would become my only skin mount smallie.

  25. Dadgum NBCSports TV. I totally and 100% agree with MarkH024. WAAAAAY too many hunting shows, and not enough fishing shows. I mean come on, you dumped Larry Dahlberg, Shaw Grigsby, and countless others and kept Charlie Moore's "show"? I'm glad Lunkerville is there. Relief at hand.

  26. I've had the pleasure of fishing with 2 of our Mods (00 mod & Roadwarrior) Both of these guys are an absolute pleasure to be around. Some of the best conversations I have had in a while. The enthusiasm they both have for fishing reminds me of myself. You just gotta love fishing and you will have a great time with them. I look forward to the winter trout fishing to end so I can meet up with them again to chase some green fish

  27. I was just talking about this to someone over a private message...LOL. He was expressing how he has not met anyone yet, and I commented how fortunate I have been to have met and fished with 3 members from BR. They are great guys, and if the opportunity presents itself again, I would go with each of them again. When you meet for the first time in person, its a cool experience because its a transition from the internet world to the real world.

  29. The Guide Big bait rod I have is a full cork heavy swimbait 7'10" model that weighs 6 1/8 oz., balances perfectly with Shimano Cardiff 300A. The newer split cork handles may be slightly lighter in weight. These are not heavy rods, they are excellent for casting swimbaits. My other swimbait rods are G. Loomis models that cost 3X more. Okuma's are a good solid swimbait rod, well made with good guides. Tom

  31. I just got off the phone with somebody from Dobyns. He basically said get the DX742 if you are fishing the 5" Senko whacky style but get the DX 743 if you are T-rigging it for better hook penetration. The DX743 will also be more versatile.

  32. In my experience, if bass are so focused on one particular kind of baitfish they can be extremely difficult to catch. They get so focused on particular sizes, colors, and movements that they can be almost impossible to get to bite. I like to let the area I'm fishing dictate what kind of prey I'm imitating.

  33. I don't care what I am imitating, as long as a bass thinks it's food I'm all set. I take people who don't fish much with me a couple times a year, they see some of the stuff I have, like spinnerbaits, jigs, etc.....and always ask what's that suposed to be. I give them the same answer..............I don't care, as long as a bass thinks it's food. They often respond with "I have never seen anything like that in the water".......to which I usually say back...."you ever seen a hot dog growing on a tree? yet you eat that."

  34. If you haven't yet, check out this recent thread about cranking rods: Looking For A Crankbait Rod Under $100 This thread mentions the BPS Crankin' Stick and includes discussion related to factors to consider when selecting a rod. This thread also mentions some other brand cranking rods that might be options, some of which are currently on sale. Regarding Crankin' Sticks...I have a few: 6' ML, 7' ML, 7'M, 7'6"M, and 7'6"MH. All different tools for different purposes. They offer good value at the regular price and excellent value at the sale price. There is a Crankin' Stick model to handle nearly any cranking chore up to 1.5 ounce baits. On the BPS action ratings for these rods, their "fast" fishes like a moderate, their "extra-fast" fishes like a moderate to moderate-fast. These are true cranking rods. If I were to pick ONE Stick to start with, it would be the 7'M. It is my most used Crankin' Stick (it's the middle rod on the photo - check out the cork ) and I use it for the 3/8oz to 5/8oz range and it will handle 3/4oz well enough if you need to stretch it. If you want to use 3/4oz to 1.5 ounce baits routinely, you should consider the MH power rod. Good rods, they work - catch fish Six pounder brought in on a Crankin' Stick.

  35. None in particular. I don´t beleive in "match the hatch", in the 30+ years I´ve fished for bass I´ve caught them with tons of stuff that doesnt imitate anything a bass can identify by theoretically imitating prey.

  36. I have a ton of league members who don't even use the internet or e-mail let alone a phone app for live scoring. Not to mention the cost of the same scale for each boat. My small club will be very slow to transition to this format. I personally would love it!

  39. Jan. 1, 2014. I just bought my 2.nd 4 gal. can of gas for my snowblower. According to the National Weather Guessers, we have had 26" of snow so far this year, however, I have about 30" in my yard. Last year I used just 4 gal. for the whole year. Ya, we have global warming, it just don't happin at my house. Weather for the next 10 days, The high+ 15, the low -18. Monday 1 /6 , high -10, low -18.Wind chill factor,-34. I'm going out tomorrow and buy a case of Knob Creek and a box of good cigars and spend the next week or so on my pukeputer talking to you guys and watch Obamacare go down the poopchute.

  40. Snow? What is this strange white stuff y'all refer too? Why you crazy yankees like that stuff so much. Ill stick with my delightful Alabama weather. I went fishing today. Probably go one day this weekend too. The bass are hitting down here. Least they were for me.

  41. How far south does it snow? As we brace ourselves for blizzard number two I repaired two antique lamps for the wife today. When it's snowing tomorrow I'll be doing more inside fixes. I don't operate shovels anymore. The last time I shoveled snow was in the blizzard of '78. After that I purchased machines to do it. I went looking for a snowblower and came home with a '55 jeep with a 4 way plow. Moving levers is as hard as it gets for me. As I hear the blizzard and heavy snow warnings moving south is an option for sure. I can afford to live anywhere in the world I want too. But my problem is my misses won't go. I just dream about fishing all year round. With the single digits approaching us by the weekends I'll be hugging the woodstove for sure. While cleaning my tackle room of course. Dreaming about making that first cast in a few months. Bill
