  1. You can order parts directly from Shimano. You'll need the Curado E drag star, as well as part #2121 and #2120 (drag click plate and retainer spring). Total cost including shipping will be something like $25. The click plate from the Curado G won't work, though you can reuse the click pin and click pin spring. Just a suggestion, but the Core 100MG7 dark gunmetal drag star is only $1 more than the silver drag star from the Curado E, and it would match the Curado G's spool-tension knob. The two stars are the same size and shape, just different colors to match the different reels. I put a Core drag star on one of my Shimanos:

  3. If you're asking if a more expensive reel will cast an expensive bait better, then no. If your asking about a slightly more refined retrieve and fancy or more durable components, then maybe. Otherwise, you basically picked the perfect reel to begin with.

  4. I agree! This is not a 1 st amendment issue, A&E is not democracy nor is Bass Resource and each can institute their own policies. A & E is attempting to cater to their overall viewership, given what I believe is that viewership I think the decision was the right one, and it is all about ratings. This is really no different than a radio station not wanting to air or terminate a host that may have opposing views to that of the station or the majority of it's listening base, again it's ratings and sponsors. Any on line forum has the right to edit or delete any post as they see fit, A&E has the identical right. If one does not like the policy of a forum, they go elsewhere and by the same token if unhappy with A & E then watch another network. Really makes no difference to me what happens, I watched the show once and that was enough for me.

  5. Thanks for all the input so far guys. I changed the base color to a different color that I think matches a bit better. I added only a half tab of orange and a half tab of blue flake. I really like this color.

  6. John, I agree heartily. What a lot of people seem to not acknowledge is that free speech has consequences. You have the right to post on Facebook, Twitter, etc., for example, that your employer treats people miserably and the employer has the right to discipline you. Many of you will remember when "Jimmy the Greek" was on CBS's NFL studio show. He made a remark involving race (which I think was not offensive) and CBS canned him. He had the right to say it and he suffered the consequences. Always engage your brain before your mouth.

  10. I read day in and day out about how much everybody here loves fishing. Blah blah blah. Surely there are things you don't like OR would like to change about spending a day or week or lifetime on the water. Pleasure boats, jet skis, and bucketheads don't count because we all hate them. My gripes. 1. All the boatable water in northern IL and southern WI is privately managed. This means I have to pay to launch the boat. Anywhere from $15-$25 a launch. I've fished many impoundments in the south and all the ramps are in pristine condition and FREE 2. Fishermen not respecting other fishermen. If I'm fishing a spot. When you come up on me, please go around the side I'm not casting to. 3. Clean up your frickin garbage. Don't throw your line in the water. It is magnetized to my prop. You shore guys...bring a garbage bag with you and pick up the garbage and worm containers that is left by the bucketheads. God gave us this resource and man will screw it up. 4. New guys on local forums, don't publicly hound guys on the boards for their honeyholes. I promise you, you'd get better feedback if you asked in a PM What don't you guys like, or would want to change?

  14. Christmas came a little early, what can I say I can get impatient Wife ordered me a ComforTroll. I couldn't wait till Christmas to install so here's my install: First thing first. Cut out the template and tape it to the deck where you want it. But be careful when cutting the template that you cut the correct lines. Cut the wrong lines and you could have a hole to big for the tray to fit in. Once the template was in place I took an exacto knife and cut the carpet using the template as a guide then peeled the carpet up. This way I had permanent template in case the paper one ripped with cutting out the deck. Drilled out the corners big enough to give the blade room to make the turn. Used a Jig Saw to cut out the deck. On one note blades designed for wood do not last long in fiberglass, but hey that's what I had on hand, burned up 3 blades on one side. Picked up a couple of blades made for metal which worked a whole lot better. The way my boat is designed I had a couple of obstical's I had to deal with. Right under where I was putting the tray was the end of one of my comparments, a tube that runs the length of the boat to run wiring to the front that is PVC encased in fiberglass, and a ton of floatation foam. Had to cut all that out of the way. One thing with Ranger Boats is that there is flotation foam in the whole boat. One of the things that makes Ranger's so safe. You can cut the boat in half and it wont sink. Just makes a mess when you have to cut it out to make room. All cut out and cleaned up and test fit complete. You want to make sure its a tight fit to give maximum support. Tray in place and mounted. Pedal in place. The pedal needs to be secured in some fashion so it does not slide around, not that it can do much sliding as its designed to be a tight fit. Some drill holes in the tray and bolt the pedal directly to the tray. I did not like that idea as if I ever have to remove my TM then you have to take the tray out to unbolt it. So I used industrial strength all weather velcro on the feet of the pedal and then secured the other side to the tray. This way it holds it in place but can easily come out if I want it to. Sure made a mess. A lot of material had to be removed to get the tray to fist. Still pulling fiberglass splinters out of my hand > should of worn gloves, oh well Cant wait to get it out and try it out. Looking forward to pain free fishing

  15. Blades are just pure "dy-no-mite" from ice out until spawn up here in the northeast. Killers for smallies and lake trout. I've used a lot of blade baits and I feel that as long as they have a decent vibration, they will work. However, it is fun to carry a selection and experiment. Problem with blades is that they have a tendency to hang bottom a lot. Especially in wooded bottoms like we have here. That can get expensive in a hurry, if you're tossing $4.00 blades. So, if any of you are tight wads like me, you might want to consider looking at the pre-moled, hookless blade bodies offered in the Barlow's catalog (pg. 55). At a little over a buck a piece, you can afford to loose a bunch and not feel too bad about it.

  21. When I am out ice fishing I am always moving around unless I am really catching them good. I move around a lot. Most people just set up there traps and wait. I am always jigging one hole as well. I seem to have more luck jigging them then on tip ups. Last Sunday I jigged up a 3-10 largemouth on my ultra light jigging rod and 2 lb test. That was a challenge. I was jigging for smelt.

  22. An easy method I have seen is using 5-gallon buckets with quickcrete to install the trees in. Some are placed standing others are placed laying down by adding some form of equal weight on both ends like a concrete block or a brick.

  23. This reaks of a publicity stunt by AE, and if it is it'll work perfectly. The Robertsons seem like good folks that have actual morals and values. Regardless of your views Phil made an articulate, explanation of HIS beliefs that were respectful to others. Most of the time the people who make the stink about these things deep down are not TRUELY hurt in anyway. Its a smug, elitest, "I'm better than you by calling out what part of society/the media calls injustices" mentality. The show itself, not for me. Way to contrived and scripted.

  27. #16 George Welcome (IP: 67.35.112.245) George WelcomeI love bass fishing! Members 1,825 posts 0 warning points Posted August 22 2007 - 10:37 AM Let's get technical, as there are in fact reasons, not just some lame holdover from days past that put the handles where they are. What will move the fish during retrieval is placed to the strong hand! A baitcast is designed to be used as a winch, so it is the reel that retrieves the fish. Hence if you are right handed the handle is in your right hand. A spinning reel is designed to pick up unloaded or loose line, not retrieve the fish. Hence it is the rod that does the retrieval, so it is the rod that is in your strong hand. If you are right handed then the pole goes to the right hand.

  28. Me too. However, the 1st Amendment does not guarantee you keep your job after making public comment. It merely protects your right to free speech within certain bounds, without government retribution. A&E can do whatever it wants to ensure ratings....which is what I think this is all about. We need to be VERY careful here. I'm leaving this open, but I doubt we can keep things non religious or political. I personally see it as a ratings game. The #1 show is slipping, so bring out the controversy. Works EVERY time.

  30. I got out on Lake Okeechobee with fellow BR member "TopWaterRob" this morning. It was a first light, top water bite. These two took my hand poured buzz frog the first ten minutes on the water. The fishing has been normal for this time of the year in the everglades with many 100+ days.

  34. I HAVE to reel with my right hand regardless of it being a spinning or casting reel. I made myself learn to pitch and flip with the rod in my left hand due to a large percentage of my bites coming from the initial fall and the few seconds it takes to switch hands could cost you a stud!

  35. http://www.americansportfish.com "The name “Tiger Bass” is actually a registered trademark of American Sport Fish Hatchery in Montgomery, Ala. This name refers to the specific cross developed at American Sport Fish, utilizing its strain of aggressive, pure northern largemouth bass bred with a strain of proven trophy Florida largemouth bass. The purpose of this particular breeding was to create a true F-1 bass that would be easy to catch and have a rapid growth rate."

  36. Thanks guys! It has been fun this year! Tom, I have been throwing articulated streamers. These are the ones I have had the most luck with. Fly, Yes its kype was fully developed. He was staging in deep water below a spawning shoal. I dont fish for bedding fish, just staging. I fully agree with the smallmouth statement!!!

  38. Off topic but how about a pair of Lake Trout?I still have the paper I scribbled down the weights on and the first two days we had were something special. Over ten each and only one under 3 lbs. Thought I had a gobie on after the footballs we were getting. Then the Steelhead hits and we both thought your had you 8lber. Remember those four days like they were yesterday.

  39. I'm not in a position right now in my life to own a bass boat (or really any boat for that matter). I've been fortunate enough to be able to join a friend of mine with a very nice Stratos several times this summer while he was pre-fishing for a tournament. I just wondered what are some tips of etiquitte to keep in mind. Some things I did each time were.... 1. Help launch/pull out the boat (I'm not quite skilled enough yet to back it in, but I parked the truck/trailer) 2. $20 gasoline gift card 3. Brought snacks/drinks for the boat cooler 4. Brought hot breakfast sandwiches (Hardees or McD's) for early morning 5. Paid for the launch fee (except for the 1 time he beat me to it) 6. Was never late, and generally offered any assistance he needed from me I was pretty careful not to cast in his direction, I kept my gear tidy. I only brought 2 rods and a small tackle bag (about the size of a shoebox). I kept pretty quiet and let him do his thing, although he was teaching me a lot of new methods and tricks throughout, but talking was pretty minimal most of the time. Anything else you'd recommend? What are some personal caveats or tips you'd give me? What are some things that non-boaters do that irritate the daylights out of you? Thanks!

  45. I'm not sure about anyone else, but when using a heavy saltwater setup I feel more comfortable reeling with my right hand (I use lh bass fishing). Maybe manufacturers made large conventional reels right handed, then when making smaller freshwater versions they just downsized what they had. I think it makes sense that with a baitcaster the reel is the winch and as most people are right dominant the handle is on the right side. However since bass fishing is done on such light tackle people would rather work the rod with their dominant hand and retrieve with the other.
