  1. I only have one. Most of my fishing involves a boat ride before fishing. The question I always debate is should I fill the livewell first before fishing when I arrive or wait until the first legal fish is caught to fill the well? Will I jinx myself if I fill it in anticipation of that first nice fish? And the debate continues every trip.

  3. One way of looking at it, and hopefully, it's how i've approached it, is from a genuine desire to know the information and be able to ask "WHY?", if something sticks out. For example, in my time here I have asked about Rods and then Reels in 2 seperate threads. There are A TON of threads about these, yes, but when I joined here, I had never heard of Shimano, Pflueger, St. Croix or ***. I didn't know what a spinning reel or a baitcaster was. I just bought what was suggested. So how do you search for something you know nothing about? I view it as having my own conversation, and asking my own questions, rather than read someone else's thoughts who may have different needs than I do. **Now before you jump all over me, once I get a bit of information I can then search for MORE information. ** I knew nothing of the differences between rods, and reels and getting the little clues I have learned a ton. I fish in a bubble for the most part. I don't have a mentor to fish with, I didn't grow up fishing as a kid, so this is a place to ask. Part of what I do for a living is teach animation to students. And just like fishing, there is so much information out there, but it's overwhelming when you're just starting out. I remember how it was when I was a novice. Now that I can do it professionally I think it's important for me to remember not everyone starts out on the same footing. Sometimes it's not being lazy, maybe they don't know where to begin. That being said, I am expecting an amazing gift from Mrs. Claus this Christmas, chosen from what I have learned here on the forums from you fine people. I'll also be setting my boy up with a really solid setup as well. There's a lot to learn when you're bobber fishing on $30 combos, and I have learned a ton of it here.

  4. That was the point he was making, he was talking about his past and his preference for women, and how sinful he was. How his life was consumed by chasing women and getting drunk. Then he said he couldn't understand finding that with the same sex, it is all blown out of proportion. Then he stated that it was his faith that saved him and could others as well. He wasn't as the media reporting ranting against any segment of society and placing himself above it, rather how he came out of it.

  5. I read an article earlier this year and he said that he wanted less camera time. Well he got his wish. People need to realize that you have the right to say whatever you want but that does not mean that there are not consequences.

  6. Suffice it to say, that I have improved every aspect of my angling world as a result of The Bass Resource web site & forums. However, there is no doubt that the Best addition is at least Two Very Good Friends. A-Jay

  7. If I ate that, i'd be circling the lake looking for an outhouse about an hour into my trip. You must have a cast iron stomach or the convenience of the toon to drop bombs when you want. No wonder the water you fish is always so d**n murky...

  8. Get up. Get dressed. Hook up the boat. Go fishing. I know it's crazy, but I am convinced that if I don't get up, it won't be a good day on the water.

  9. This is the only picture of me holding a pair of smallmouth lol, and here is my biggest smallie... Both caught during my high school bass fishing season but separate years, you can tell which is older by the length of my hair LOL

  11. Because we are stupid. We are told to use a spinning rod in our right hand & reel with our left if we are right handed. Since your right arm is dominate it makes perfect sense to cast with your right arm & immediate reel with your left without any transfer. This happens because a spinning reel sits under the rod instead of above unless you are a nerd. Then the manufactures of baitcasters determined that right handed people will want to reel with our right hands. That is a flawed premise. We want to cast with our dominant arm. Then we have to transfer the rod to our left hand so we can reel with our right. I as well as most others bought into that stupidity & also because there are more offerings in right handed baitcast reels than left handed. Ideally a right handed person would cast with their right hand & reel with their left. That is much more efficient that having to make the transfer from right hand to left with the rod after casting. The bait casting manufacturers have done us wrong.

  13. Had a slow day of work today so I had a chance to go to the park and fish for a while. Blue bird skies, and nice cool breeze from the NE. Made the fishing tough but I managed two decent ones I would say. A 16.5" and 17" They will help my numbers a bit, puts me at 63". It's taking me a while but I will catch up. I caught them either using a BPS stick bait or WM seed centipede deadsticking. Not my favorite technique because it requires patience for that slow decent, but none the less it worked today.

  14. Me too. However, the 1st Amendment does not guarantee you keep your job after making public comment. It merely protects your right to free speech within certain bounds, without government retribution. A&E can do whatever it wants to ensure ratings....which is what I think this is all about. We need to be VERY careful here. I'm leaving this open, but I doubt we can keep things non religious or political. I personally see it as a ratings game. The #1 show is slipping, so bring out the controversy. Works EVERY time.

  26. You have more to be concerned with on a 25 year old boat than just the motor. The boat needs to be structurally sound.

  37. Do y'all know how many times we discuss the same subject we duscussed last week? Some times people don't search at all & I know this because I'll search & find it easily. While we at it I can stand people who quote an entire post thats a page long just to quote a sentence.

  38. I would agree for the most part. It can become a little cluttered when someone posts a new question and just three lines down is the same question, but that is pretty rare and I just skip over them. On the other hand part of the fun for me is the conversation that occurs by answering questions and talking with other people. There is value to talking with people other than just getting information from them, and that is the big reason I love bassresource. I have very few knowledgeable bass fisherman that live around me so the only time I really talk about bass fishing is when I am on here posting/replying. Talking about lines, lures, structure, habitat, etc is great!! Even if I have talked or read about it a 100 times before. It seems that there are a lot of great people on this forum that are not only great fisherman/woman, but are also great people. So for me it is good to rub elbows with them even if it is in the virtual world.

  39. Winter bass try to conserve energy and can often be found on steep dropoffs where they can move up and down with minimal effort. I often throw a finesse jig or TR plastic to the top of the ledge and let it slowly tumble down......that is if I can find open water in early winter up here

  44. So, I forgot that my Limnology books weren't at home, but at the office. I'll try and scan the appropriate pages when I get a chance. Here is an entire limnology course online, without the optional reading materials; http://www.esf.edu/efb/schulz/Limnology/Limnology3.html Here's the same thing from another school; http://academic.keystone.edu/jskinner/Limnology/ I'll scan those in and try and answer questions anyone has.
