  2. Something to think about. Additionally, I believe quite a bit of this can be applied to one's angling. A-Jay 13 Things The Mentally Strong Don’t Do ~ 1. They Don’t Waste Time Feeling Sorry for Themselves Mentally strong people don’t sit around feeling sorry about their circumstances or how others have treated them. Instead, they take responsibility for their role in life and understand that life isn’t always easy or fair. 2. They Don’t Give Away Their Power They don’t allow others to control them, and they don’t give someone else power over them. They don’t say things like, “My boss makes me feel bad,” because they understand that they are in control over their own emotions and they have a choice in how they respond. 3. They Don’t Shy Away from Change Mentally strong people don’t try to avoid change. Instead, they welcome positive change and are willing to be flexible. They understand that change is inevitable and believe in their abilities to adapt. 4. They Don’t Waste Energy on Things They Can’t Control You won’t hear a mentally strong person complaining over lost luggage or traffic jams. Instead, they focus on what they can control in their lives. They recognize that sometimes, the only thing they can control is their attitude. 5. Don’t Worry About Pleasing Everyone Mentally strong people recognize that they don’t need to please everyone all the time. They’re not afraid to say no or speak up when necessary. They strive to be kind and fair, but can handle other people being upset if they didn’t make them happy. 6. They Don’t Fear Taking Calculated Risks They don’t take reckless or foolish risks, but don’t mind taking calculated risks. Mentally strong people spend time weighing the risks and benefits before making a big decision, and they’re fully informed of the potential downsides before they take action. 7. They Don’t Dwell on the Past Mentally strong people don’t waste time dwelling on the past and wishing things could be different. They acknowledge their past and can say what they’ve learned from it. However, they don’t constantly relive bad experiences or fantasize about the glory days. Instead, they live for the present and plan for the future. 8. They Don’t Make the Same Mistakes Over and Over Mentally strong people accept responsibility for their behavior and learn from their past mistakes. As a result, they don’t keep repeating those mistakes over and over. Instead, they move on and make better decisions in the future. 9. They Don’t Resent Other People’s Success Mentally strong people can appreciate and celebrate other people's success in life. They don’t grow jealous or feel cheated when others surpass them. Instead, they recognize that success comes with hard work, and they are willing to work hard for their own chance at success. 10. They Don’t Give Up After the First Failure Mentally strong people don’t view failure as a reason to give up. Instead, they use failure as an opportunity to grow and improve. They are willing to keep trying until they get it right. 11. They Don’t Fear Alone Time Mentally strong people can tolerate being alone and they don’t fear silence. They aren’t afraid to be alone with their thoughts and they can use downtime to be productive. They enjoy their own company and aren’t dependent on others for companionship and entertainment all the time but instead can be happy alone. 12. They Don’t Feel the World Owes Them Anything Mentally strong people don’t feel entitled to things in life. They weren’t born with a mentality that others would take care of them or that the world must give them something. Instead, they look for opportunities based on their own merits. 13. They Don’t Expect Immediate Results Whether they are working on improving their health or getting a new business off the ground, mentally strong people don’t expect immediate results. Instead, they apply their skills and time to the best of their ability and understand that real change takes time.

  6. The time to catch DD bass from any trophy bass lake is during it's peak period. Anyone seriously interested in catching these special bass should contact Jeff and book a trip to Baccarac. Your odds are good, better if you focus your efforts on DD bass in lieu of catching those pesky 5 to 7 lber's. Tom PS, Matt are you attending the BAT this year?

  14. So if you have to ask this, then you noticed it was down. There was a network outage that started a chain of events, resulting in the meltdown of our database. We had to restore from Monday's backup, meaning all of Tuesday's posts were lost. There's no way to recover them. My apologies for the inconvenience, however the good news is that we're up and running again. Note there may be some temporary anomalies such as search results not working. This will restore as the backend systems reindex and rebuild themselves. Thanks again for your patience. Glenn

  15. you'll probably get a lot of mixed opinions but 10# fluoro or 10# mono is a solid choice. sunlines mono has a smaller diamater so 12# would be roughly the same.

  16. I have been a Fenwick fan for the last few years, well ever since the elite Tech smallmouth rods. I have looked at and used the HMG and the HMX but not the Eagle GT but even though a lower end model it is head and shoulders above the Pflueger combo rod, I've seen those and the GT is a much better rod. For what you are going to use it for I'd say it is a good rod, One thing I've learned about the Fenwick rods over the last couple of years from having and fishing the Aetos to the HMX, the amount of drop off in performance isn't as much as other companies. One thing about the combo you want, the 304 Stainless steel guides on the rod can handle the braid but the reel, the president is a decent spinning reel but it has a graphite frame, I would feel comfortable using fluorocarbon or mono on it but not braid, graphite framed reels are less expensive because they can flex when using a strong no stretch line like braid and when the happens the gears never line up exactly right and your reel ends up feeling like a coffee grinder. If you are concerned about deep hooking fish then you need to learn to watch the line as well as trying to feel subtle bites, sometimes they move forward while taking the bait and even high end rods with great sensitivity will end up catching fish that are deep hooked, it happens when using a senko. Spool up with fluorocarbon and the combo you have with the Pflueger and the Fenwick will be great and even though it isn't the best, the sensitivity of the Eagle GT is decent as is the HMX, which is a pretty good rod too. Good luck with your combo.

  22. Talk to your athletic director, try to get a bass fishing team going at your school if it is a state sport. I started a team in my high school last year, we came in 3rd out of of 35 teams in the qualifying tournament and 6th or 7th in the championship this year... It is awesome, we are also getting a bass fishing club going for anyone in the school who doesn't make the team or just wants to be in the club... PM if you have any questions

  23. Sponsorship is not all it's cracked up to be...it turns your hobby into a job. Unless you are prepared to make that step, and have the skills necessary to lend credibility to your sales pitch, then I recommend waiting until a company notices you rather than pursuing them. To become a better fisherman, read, fish, talk to other anglers, read posts on these forums, watch videos, etc. - all good stuff. The most important thing is time on the water. Don't try to do it all at once. Try a few bait types, and a limit your gear to a few combos that suit what you are doing. Last of all, try to find a club or tournament series that is a team format. You'll learn the most in this format.

  25. I don't know about you but if I have the choice between winning 60k and winning nothing, it's not too hard a decision. It's not like the guy would be paying him up front. Up to you Bobby. Just like the other guys said though, you're spot's gonna get burned if it does kick out the winning bag.

  26. You can find a good used Stradic FJ on fleabay for in the 115-135 range. That is where I got mine and the reel is flat out awesome. I have a Symetre as well, and it's a great reel but would take a Stradic over it in a second.

  27. If you are in the market for a cheap swimbait rod an Okuma Guide Select is about the only thing I could recommend. A lot of guys with extremely high end rods and custom rods will still use them, plus they have an amazing warranty. If you are thrifty you can get some used Dobyns and Loomis rods for that price range also.

  30. Well, Ive decided that Im converting one of my Curado 50e's to a BFS. Earlier today I ordered an Avail micro spool with 4 pin brake and Kotobi BFS Air bearings from hedgehog studios. I do need to buy another 50 sized reel now, but not a BFS type. Thanks for all your help! It just sounded like a tricked out 50 will be as good a BFS reel as anything else, so thats what I went with. 39. If you had said pulling in 10# jack cravelles on every cast, which I've done, yeh your going get tired. But if ya get tired pulling 5# bass that takes no more 60 seconds to land, one is in not very good shape. These professional bass fishermen having been catching fish since before they could walk. I doubt very seriously if they get tired and sore, they may not be athletes but their fishing muscles are in perfect shape. Landing a bass is not a major undertaking, especially with heavier rods and heavy braided lines, thick vegetation is the hardest part of it.

  40. Congratulations on the HUGE fish you guys caught down there! A-Jay, I love the videos. You should be required to have a video camera strapped to you at all times while you fish. I just love watching your videos. Also, congratulations on the 11 lb. 11 ounce Horse. A 10 pound largemouth is one thing, but when you start getting into the 11 pound+ category, you become an instant all-star! Dwight, Big Congratulations to you on entering the double digit Largemouth Club. I just have one question, which club is left? You are in the 7 Pound Smallmouth Club, the 50 inch Musky Club, the 30 pound Northern Pike Club. I mean seriously, you are running out of clubs ;-) Great work, Buddy!

  41. Go big or go home ! I downsize when I take my kid fishing and I´m interested in him catching a mess of dinks instead of him getting bored, otherwise I keep on fsihing with the same baits I always fish. To me "finessing" is not about tying itsy bitsy teeny tiny baits, it´s about fishing thoroughly and thoroughly every spot.
