  1. Color Change: My color choice is determined by how bright it is outside along with the clarify of water. Clear skys and clear water I'll go with a natural color like black/brown/white or black/green/yellow (actual color of frogs I've seen). The overcast is instantly going to be a dark color frog. With that low of visibility, they don't care about color only sound and feel. The white is simply a wildcard that has saved me in the past. Yes, I frog year round. It's the first pole I grab at any body of water. Most of my big frog catches happen within 7 ft of shore. I approach anything that actually conceals my frog. Thick vegetation, mats, and lilly pads are ideal. I want them to hear and feel my frog before the even seen it. I want them to already have in their mind they are going to strike whatever it is that is moving above their heads, and alot of the time, those fish won't see the frog until it's in their mouths. My cadence is simple. Jerky motions that basically "dare" the bass to go for it. If it's a thick matt with no pockets, a slow steady retrieve will have them punching the mat. Twitch twitch pause. Then twitch, long pause, twitch, and if they are active constant twitching. Reaction bites would be 70% of my hits. Rarely to they take it because they are hungry. I also spray a bit of yum f2 spray. I found that it increases the amount of time that fish will hold on to the frog, giving me plenty of time to set the hook properly. Edit: On multiple occasions I have refished a certain area with a different color and had them strike. Usually moving to a darker frog.

  2. Here's my weekend report Saturday I went out to my golf course after I got skunked in the rain. Mid day it cleared up I was fishing from 2p to around 4:30p. Caught 6 fish using 6" senkos (watermelon red and black with blue flake) and bass pro boss shad (blue gill) my St. Croix Mojo Inshore 7' MH rod with Plfueger Patriarch spinning reel, 30# Power Pro braid. Weather was in the upper 70's and clear sky, post rain. This 17" came off a boss shad. Casted in front of the bridge and it hit it about 5 yards or so after it hit the water. This 18" came on a 6" senko black with blue flake. There was a floating pile of grass and I casted few yards past it working the senko slowly. Once I got it close I felt it slam the senko, I set the hook and it put up a pretty good fight. Jumping a few time before I got it in. Today I found a new spot that looked, and proved to be, ideal for frogs! It was in the low 70's sunny and clear sky. I know there are bigger ones in there. I was only there for about 45 minutes and then I got snagged had to cut my braid. Was low so had to go get more, figures I left my other tackle bag with my other spools at my house. Was using the same rod and reel set up as Saturday... St. Croix Mojo Inshore 7' MH rod with Plfueger Patriarch spinning reel, 30# Power Pro braid. Here as you can see I was using my frog in Catalpa color. Ended up catching 4 fish two were 16 and the other two were 19" Caught this one in all that grass that you can see in the picture. Saw it chasing bait fish threw my frog by it, of course it didn't land where I wanted it to never does. Reeled in and then casted back out closer to where I saw it and then after a few twitches and pauses she exploded on it. This one I was trying to cast to a patch of pads, can't see them in the picture I took, and it was one of those "how the hell did I cast that bad" lol and the second the frog hit the water this fish slammed it. Put up a hell of a fight took the frog straight out to the middle and then jumped a few times by the time I go it to shore it was barley hooked, the hook came out the second I touched it. So that's my biggest 5 so far 19, 19, 19, 18, 17. The 20"ers have eluded me this weekend. Going to do some fishing on Tuesday in Orlando while I am there, going to stop at BPS and pick up a few things. Then I won't be getting back out until the weekend, no more afternoon fishing now that it will be dark by the time I can get out. I may try to pull a MCS, I like to call it lol, and get out early morning and take advantage of that AM daylight.

  4. Now for my catches today. I went out from 430-630 to a West Miami Canal, my brother -in- law found. The first fish I caught was a 19.5" caught on a brown Booyah frog. I was using 30PP. I caught it close to some sawgrass, it struck on the second pop. Then I caught a 15" fish on the same setup and same frog. Same thing, cast by the sawgrass and this one hit on the first pop. Then I lost my frog, in the sawgrass. I have lost 3 brown booyah frogs right out of the box. After that I had a few missed strikes and then the bite shutoff. Wind was 5-10mph from the SW. 19.5" 15"

  5. Dude its the spiders! I hate them! Ive been in trees before and ended up with em all over me, been bit on the stomach by a brown recluse.. I really panic if I get into some over hanging brush. I will throw the pole in the water with a 12lb fish on it and jump into alligator infested water screaming like a Little girl before I let a bunch of spiders get on me again lol.

  11. Alright, was able to grab one more before dark. 15", sorry for the blurry pic, he was jumping around a lot. I take a pic next to the rod incase my way of measuring isn't valid. Frog color of choice was black/yellow since it was overcast and colder.

  12. You already have a good system. Just take enough and only the 3600 boxes in your tackle bag that cover the seasonal patterns for the waters you fish. In no case will you ever use everything you have in a day or two, especially in a tournament situation. Do your homework before hand. If you are constantly changing lures, you ain't fishing.

  13. We went out for a bit today and got a few good ones. Was slow though. Some small top water fish and some 3-4lbs salad fish. My girlfriend got her first flipped fish too. I didnt get a picture of my biggest one because I got mad when my 7-6 rod broke when I pulled it into the boat and stopped caring rest of the day, but got one 18.5" ill put up later.

  14. Okay. Got rained out early, but managed to pull one out. Will go back later tonight. 14.5" inches. It was about 73 degrees and overcast around 9am. Used a boyah pad crasher jr (yellow/green/black). My frog set up if anyone is interested is a 7' MH BPS Bionic with a BPS Pro Qualifer reel using 30lb powerpro braid.

  16. When our lawn mower broke and wouldn't run, my wife kept hinting to me that I should get it fixed. But, somehow I always had something else to take care of first, the shed, the boat, Making beer.. Always something more important to me. Finally she thought of a clever way to make her point. When I arrived home one day, I found her seated in the tall grass, busily snipping away with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. I watched silently for a short time and then went into the house. I was gone only a minute, and when I came out again I handed her a toothbrush. I said, "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the driveway." The doctors say I will walk again, but I will always have a limp.

  17. President Obama walks into the Bank of America to cash a check. As he approaches the cashier he says,"Good morning Ma'am, could you please cash this check for me?" Cashier: "It would be my pleasure sir. Could you please show me your ID?" Obama: "Truthfully, I did not bring my ID with me as I didn't think there was any need to. I am President Barack Obama, the President of the United States of AMERICA !!!!" Cashier: "Yes sir, I know who you are, but with all the regulations and monitoring of the banks because of impostors and forgers and requirements of the Dodd/Frank legislation, etc., I must insist on seeing ID." Obama: Just ask anyone here at the bank who I am and they will tell you. Everybody knows who I am." Cashier: "I am sorry Mr. President but these are the bank rules and I must follow them." Obama: "I am urging you, please, to cash this check." Cashier: "Look Mr. President, here is an example of what we can do. One day, Tiger Woods came into the bank without ID. To prove he was Tiger Woods he pulled out his putter and made a beautiful shot across the bank into a cup.. With that shot we knew him to be Tiger Woods and cashed his check. Another time, Andre Agassi came in without ID. He pulled out his tennis racket and made a fabulous shot whereas the tennis ball landed in my cup. With that shot we cashed his check. So, Mr. President, what can you do to prove that it is you, and only you, as the President of the United States?" Obama stands there thinking, and thinking, and finally says, "Honestly, my mind is a total blank...there is nothing that comes to my mind. I can't think of a single thing. I have absolutely no idea what to do and I don't have a clue." Cashier: "Will that be large or small bills, Mr. President?”

  18. You missed it.............lol. Spanish, bluefish and ladyfish were going crazy last 2 weeks, no exaggeration but I was cut off and lost about 20 lures as of late, gotchas do rule, went to 1 Walmart and they only had 1 left. Have some cooler weather and rough water coming in staring today so they may be back. The ICW was nuts with mullet yesterday morning about 6 am, snook and tarpon busting all over the place, 30 minutes later and not one strike, been thru that one dozens of times, they are just too busy inhaling live bait and don't want artificial. Best way to catch them is a live mullet and clip a fin so they swim different. I'll be back there again this morning, Atlantic Ave and the ICW in Delray. I'd rather catch bass than spanish mackerel, no fight to them. Blues and especially ladyfish are awesome to catch.

  22. I'm a lure color freak besides being a lure junkie. When a have success with a lure and it out fishes the other lures I buy a lot of them. As each different color of the same type of lure catches fish too I buy more of those. I have a fear of my lures and color style being discontinued too. Like the BPS XPS Topnocker and the Bomber FAT A. The topnocker is the hottest topwater lure I have ever used. The bomber FAT A has been my go to lure for eons even in the old craw and shad colors it still catches fish. I stock up every lure that I have success with. It's costly but I feel better by having them in-house rather than scrambling trying to buy them all up when there discontinued. The older stuff still works and never lets me fail. Now once a new lure works for me I purchase two of every color to start off with so I can match any water and light condition. As time goes on I purchase more. I have boxes of cranks, plastics. I give lures to my kids too.

  23. Yep, Ryan is right. Oval split rings are only used on the line tie, not on hooks. I put them on all my hardbaits that come with round rings. I hate tying to round rings because it's easy for your line to end up in the split. If you want to buy aftermarket split rings to put on your hooks, Owner Hyper Wire rings are probably the best.

  24. I have a pole that is solely for frog fishing, and is always ready. I carry 4 rods total. Frog Rod - BPS pro qualifier reel (7:1:1), BPS Bionic 7' MH with 30lb braid. I use this one only for frogs. Crank Rod - Lews Speed Spool (7:1:1), BPS Bionic 6'6 MH with 12 Fluro. This one is for crankbaits, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits Top Water Rod - Abu Garcia Silver Max (6:4:1), BPS Bionic 6'6 Medium with 12 Mono. I use this for topwater baits, as well as softbaits (senkos, flukes, etc) Worm Rod - Shimano Sedona, Browning 7' M rod, 10lb fluro. This is used 100% worming. Those are all on standby and the baits vary depending on the body of water. I only use my frogs close to shore so if we aren't seeing bites, I'll transition onto a texas style senko. If it were up to me, I frog most of the time, but my fishing buddies find frogging frustrating so I go with their flow. During the spawn season I like to use shallow running rapalas or spinnerbaits, so I would imagine the frog rod might get a break for days like that. Keep in mind, just because I'm froggin' doesn't always garauntee bites. There are off days.

  27. My default is black/green/yellow. 2nd choice is brown/black/white. If it's overcast I'll cast all black, and when nothing seems to be working I'll go all white. That order usually keeps me from getting skunked. Unfortunately I have a rather large collection of frogs and I ignore many of the other colors that haven't proved themselves.
    1 point
  28. Yeah, I frog 90% of the time. I can pull them out on frogs when they aren't biting anything else. It's all about color in my parts to get the bites.

  29. I sure do. Now to answer the OP's question. I have a torque wrench also, and I don't use it on the prop. I tighten it up good, and then line up the start washer and bend two tabs. Now if I were working on something critical like an engine bolt pattern than I would definitely use a torque wrench. However, I'm not saying that the way I do it is right. Do what makes you feel at peace.

  32. I just got home from an outing with my girl and son we went to the Town Center. I stopped by the lake that Black Creek Outfitters is on and wet my line for 30 mins. Caught 3 fish didn't bother with the tape measure though. My son is 16 months and when we ask him what sound a fish makes he smacks his lips. When I caught the fish his mother was like Adrian what's that and he smacks his lips to make the fish sound it was cute lol. He wouldn't touch them though lol eventually he will. I was using a bass pro boss shad, I've been having pretty good luck with these things recently. I'm going to go back out around 6 to an old spot I use to fish by my house and fish til dark. If I catch anything I will be sure to post Good luck to everyone who goes out today and tomorrow.

  33. Remember you're on a braid heavy forum. If you're short on cash and on an insensitive rod I might go braid. Because its unlikely you'll feel slack line sensations anyways. Nonetheless weightless or finesse techniques for me involve a fair amount of slack line. Also, this seems to be when most strikes occur. Braid is fantastic on a tight line and its manageability as far as memory goes is great. Once its on top of the water bellying blowing around you're line will be slack as the light bait sinks and you will not feel the sensations a fluorocarbon will deliver and unless your great at watching your line you will miss hooksets. Whether people want to claim they can feel slack line hits on braid its mostly bs. The fish would have to hit the line in a fashion that makes the line tight. It does not transmit slack line sensitivity. As far as hooksets go, I've never had a problem setting a hook with mono or fluorocarbon. Even in 30+feet of water and long casts. Manageability of quality fluorocarbon or even seaguar invizx is definitely enough for spinning gear. I care more what the line is doing on/in the water and the transmission I receive. Then again, im not using cheap rods. Watch arguably the best finesse fisherman in the game, Aaron Martens. See what he uses.

  34. I have an ugly stick spinning and that is what my few cranks, top water hard baits and jerks get thrown on most of the time. Works great, not as sensative nearly as my Carbonlite but I have occasionally throw a wacky rig or trig with it and had no problems. I take it if i want to fish with the kids that way if it gets stepped on no worries. They have a new model out this year or something I hear some buzz.

  36. It depends on the bait. I try to buy at least 2 of everything. If it's a proven bait that I know I will use a lot, I might have 4 or 5 of them. To help offset the quantity of baits I carry, I try to limit myself to just a few colors that will cover all water conditions.

  40. I like the 5" & 6" fast sink version ( I don't believe it's listed on his website ) and I have Dwain from Baitwerks paint it in a Golden Shiner pattern, it's been a very productive bait for me. I usually have Dwain order it from Mike and then he paints it. Patience is needed as it usually take a couple of months to get it.

  41. Goose as a charter member of the PQ fan club I salute you! The only anomaly at evidence in this thread is you my friend. Many of us intend to do in-depth analysis of many things-few of us actually do. At its price point the PQ is a solid winner. Combine that with BPS customer serve and it is an exceptional value in my opinion and experience. Some read your review and feel compelled to condemn for a variety of reasons. We would both agree that all BPS reels do not have the record of success that the PQ does. All of the major manufacturers are the same, esp at the lower end of their lines. You have not tried to make any case here, other than the over-all value of the PQ based on your well documented experience. Well done.

  43. Do you guys realize that you have to be smarter than a boater if you bank fish? When in a boat you can maneuver around; run from spot to spot; have ten or more setups ready to throw; take along 500 pounds of tackle; and hit every spot from ten different angles to try to get a strike. When on the bank you are limited in your movements; limited in hitting different spots; can take four setups ready to throw; have to be knowledgeable and take only 1 pound of tackle; and hit every spot from two or three angles at the most. Bank fishermen have to understand how the weather impacts their fishing; what to wear; how to retrieve snagged lures; watch out for animals on land and at your feet; and use a limited number of techniques depending on the bank and foliage around you. When a bank fisherman gets to fish from a bass boat for the first time it is like being released from a jail cell. All the space in the world and so many places to fish it can drive you nuts. The most important factor for bank fisherman to understand is that bass are bass and their instincts are the same be in a river, lake or pond. You may not be able to throw five different baits from ten different angles at a submerged tree from the bank, so bank fishermen have to be savvy as to what should produce a strike and from what angle. So to throw my two cents into the discussion, what ever you learn from the guys and gals on the Forum will work from a boat or the bank. it is your responsibility to determine the pattern for the day and take advantage of it as best you can.

  45. Two really plastered 40 year old Virgins walked into a "fun" house. They really wanted to get some fun and asked the madam for two hookers. The madam of the house asked them to take a seat and have a drink while she arranged their requests. She thought to herself that these men were so waisted that it didn’t matter what type of women they used. She collected two inflateable dolls and put one in each of the two rooms. The two men were then immidiately escorted to their rooms for the night. The next day while they were leaving one man says to the other "last night was the worst time ever! I just layed there all night waiting for the girl to make her move and she never did!" The other man said to his friend"that’s nothing, my woman was a witch! I leaned over to give her a love bite on her neck and she farted then flew out the window!"

  47. If it's one of my local hot spots where I'm 100% there are bass there I take my time using my ritual of lures. If nothing happens I go thru them again varying my presentations. I throw topwater, to cranks, to inline spinners, to spinnerbaits, to plastics etc and repeat. I can gun and run to another nearby spot and repeat. But one more trick is to change my scent from the yum shad /original bass scent to a garlic. Garlic scent is my last change up pitch. Remember when all else fails firetiger will bring home the bacon. On a tough day make sure you read the water conditions closely. How long will I stay there if there is no action. I'm a lure tossing addict. As long as I can just toss lures and practice my presentations I'm ok with that to keep me sharp. I need to keep the edge. I use every bit of slow time to practice and the bass always will interrupt me when I get it right. Don't go out there with sloppy presentations. We invested our money into all these many lures why not throw them all why rush? Settle down and have fun.

  48. Some of the best spots in the lake are occupied by the biggest fish in the lake. Those fish are territorial, and chase other fish away. They also do not bite all the time. Those spots that seem like they MUST hold fish, but don't produce bites often get checked, and rechecked. Big girls gotta eat sometime, and I want to be there when they do.
