  1. Salmon ! Well, not my catch.... So I had been Sturgeon fishing for about 3 hrs without any action, and then decided to head back to a spot halfway to the ramp. As I was running, I see a large, dead (I thought) Salmon, so I circle back to see it up close. As I come up on it, I see its actually still alive, but barely, swimming on its back. I actually hooked my scale on its jaw and it weighed 26.3 lbs, and was surprisingly clean. Don't know if it managed to spawn, first... I toss it back and go about another 1/4 mile to my spot. As I get anchored and situated, a giant {like 600 lbs} Sea Lion comes swimming by. They swim mostly under water, just popping there heads up for a breath maybe every 30-60 seconds or so. As it swims by, the thought crossed my mind, "I wonder if that Sea Lion is going to find that Salmon ??? I mean, this is a BIG river (150 yd across ?) In any case, I was sitting there kind of daydreaming, and I thought..... If he was going to find it, it would be somewhere about now..... and it couldn't have been 20 seconds later, I heard the first splash... from a 1/4 mile away ! Granted, it was flat calm, and sound travels so great over water, but I'm just saying, after that first splash, all hell broke loose ! I just HAD to pull the anchor and run up there real quick to see if I could get some good shots... Purposely went way wide and all the way around him, so that the light would be square behind me I probably took 60-80 shots in 3 or 4 minutes, but I think these would be my top 3 I'm just loving the water droplet detail in all of of them Oh.... so then, on the way back to the ramp > while running {alright I slow down to an idol, but in gear} I got a couple of birdies In-flight, that I was really happy with, mostly because they both got a lot of underside lighting, from the sun reflecting up off of the water Hope you enjoy them Peace, Fish

  2. They both ate the RAGE Lobster flipped in deep trees! The Beastly Gal put a Big O Smile on my face when immediately after the hook set, she headed straight to me, only to relax a bit to allow being lifted into the Boat for a photo. The second fish made it painful for me to winch her out of the thick stuff grabbing every limb on the tree on her way up! I was hoping that it might be good Therapy after my shoulder surgery on the 1st of the month, but now I feel ABUSED My grandson Michael said "No pain - No Gain"

  6. Having lived in Florida and fished all over the country I can tell you alligators are more afraid of you than you are of them. You have to remember, they eat squirrels, turtles, fish and in some area nutra rats. Not humans. When in a boat and/or kayak we look a lot bigger to them and bigger wins in the wild. I've seen Florida anglers fish in waders in the Everglades and when a curious gator got to close they simply smacked em on the nose with their rod tip and the gator split. Not saying I'd recommend you chase down gators and smack them up but those that grew up around them are generally not intimidated by them either. Last year after a full practice day on Kissimmee in central Florida, I was loading my boat at dark when I saw a guy breaking down his float tube. I asked if he was just out there fishing and he said "everyday". I had to check and make sure he didn't have prosthetic legs! This float tube was literally that, his legs were on the bottom and he used flippers to move around. He told me at times the gators get curious but he goes his way and they go theirs. Respectable but still I wouldn't mess around. A kayak though, all day everyday! Just be smart but scared is never good either! It's fishing, if you aren't enjoying yourself what's the point?

  7. Had the privilege of meeting Randall Tharp after his win on Ross Barnett Reservoir here in MS. He was a super nice guy, took the time out to talk to my 9 year old son who is very motivated to learn more about bass fishing now. We attended day 3 weigh ins at BPS, it was a great experience to finally see one of these in person.

  8. This weather up here has the fish going nuts. Just fished the pond by my house and got 10 fish in about 15 minutes of fishing. Massive schools of bass just crushing everything in the water. Gonna go to my big fish spot tomorrow and hopefully have similar luck. I need to get back in the top 5.

  9. Did a little fishing while on my lunch break behind the offices off Jim Moran Blvd. Missed two in the 20 mins I had to burn. One only had the tail of the worm the other broke off. Funny you guys mention wearing business clothes while out fishing, that's everyday for me when I stop on the way home from work. On the flip side my wife loves when I come home with stickers/hitch hikers (little green square things) stuck all over the bottom of my trousers. Probably a good idea to buy some knee high rubber boots, for her sake anyways lol.

  10. Just guessing here, but I would think "Up North" and "Down South" would have something to do with how one looks at a map. North is always up and South is always down. I would guess "Back East" would come from back when people were migrating and moving west across the US. The vast majority of them were actually from the East, so they would probably say "Back East" when referring to the East coast. I think "Out West" might come from the same era when people were traveling across the US. I figure the term "Headed Out West" was used quite often and it more than likely stuck. I have never claimed to be real smart, so those may not be accurate, just my best guesses.

  14. I always thought the Dirty South was a reference that was used by rap artists that came from the south. I think I remember Arrested Development, Outkast, and Ludacris specifically using the term. I've also heard it used to describe a woman's woohoo.

Actually, I lurk at the top of escalators. It takes much longer for a falling body to reach the bottom. And if they take a few passengers down with them it's like bowling.

  22. For the record, Martin told me that he might not be able to fish this Sunday. You guys are my witness, so he cant ***** at me that I took someone else in the boat. I don't want him to give me the "guilt trip" again, lol. You never know Lou, you could be up for round 2. (If Martin reads that, he may just change his mind, lol) Otherwise, I might be swimming around in Margate by myself unless someone else wants to join me.

  23. SOB offers twisted loop or r-bend on all orders. The twisted loop is supposed to offer more vibration because it is more rigid. You can take a piece of clear plastic tubing & slip it over the r-bend to close the loop.

Peggy attended Polk High, were she met and later married Al Bundy (though it was never made clear as to how she was able to attend high school in Chicago when her parents never left Wisconsin). Though she attended high school, it was revealed that she never graduated because she failed home economics class. She later graduated by switching her final exam with Kelly's and tricking her into attend summer school. Not as dumb as I look

  40. The question should be pre-spawn vs Fall But of your 2, pre-spawn hands down, during this time frame the bass have one thing in mind...food! Pre-spawn starts long before many anglers are aware. Post spawn the are not interested in feeding at all!

  41. I use 20 lb flourocarbon as a leader when the pike are around in the spring and fall. I have not had a break off yet. I would not use a wire at all if I were bass fishing.

  42. I can honestly say I dont think there are many people in this whole country that throws the buzzbait more hours in a year than me. When water temps hit 52 in the spring til the low to mid 40/s in the fall. It is a bait that I have confidence throwing 100% of the time . There are times I never put it down all day or night long . I have learned so many tricks to trigger strikes with it as well. I flip-pitch skip them under docks In the nastyest cover you could imagine-you name it Ive done it and I have anglers =pro and amature alike say" what the heck are you doiung" My answer -"WATCH AND LEARN" Tight now is prime time-Biggest fush of the year comes on the buzzbait

  45. As I've suggested in other posts, you could always try braid for your mainline and several different spools of copoly, mono, fluorocarbon and switch out leaders as needed based on conditions you'll be fishing. I have one of those Plano spool boxes I take with me now, with 6 spools of copoly in 6, 8, 10, and 15, and two spools of pure FC in 10 and 12 lb test. As well, I usually take two, or three rods with me. They'll each have a different leader tied on.

  48. I took delivery of my 2010 Predator on March 1st 2013. This was after researching my new boat purchase for over 2 years. Figured I'd write a review and a list of pros and cons in case any of you are contemplating a future purchase. My review is based on casting and vertical jigging primarily for bass, walleye, and panfish. I haven't done any trolling. I have been on the water at least once a week since the purchase. I'll start with the cons: 1. Rear deck is really not fishable in shallow water. With the motor trimmed up out of the water, there is little room for a co-angler to fish comfortably. Although not as wide as a bass boat, the deck is decent enough to fish with the motor trimmed down. 2. There is no cooler. I've been using the rear livewell as a cooler. There is enough room in the livewell for a 25lb of ice, (2) frozen 1gal milk jugs(to cool the front well), a dozen bottles of water, and 2 sandwiches. The livewell is not insulated and the ice is normally melted after 6hrs fishing 90* weather. 3. The fuel vent cover is located on the hull directly underneath the fuel fill. I broke it off on a low sitting dock last week. From what I've read, it seems to be somewhat common with Lund. 4. IMO they skimped on the quality of the lid latches/locks. Chrome handles and plastic deck inserts. I broke a plastic washer when I accidently forgot to put the handle down and stepped on it. Have also has the hinge pins on the handles work there way out. Once put back in, they stayed in place. I've also had a couple of defects which I was assured by my dealer they would be taken care of. There is an issue with paint peeling, and the carpet adhesive in the glove box has failed and the carpet has separated from the top of the compartment. I also have 1 brake on the Shorelander trailer which is hanging up. Pros: 1. The 225 ProXS is flawless. The boat gets on plane very quickly with the 21 Tempest and runs at around 5850 rpm's @ WOT. With 500lbs of fishermen, 50 gallons of fuel, and full of gear, the boat tops out at 58mph. With the bow 28 gal livewell full, top end drops to 55-56mph. The 225 has similar fuel consumption as the 90 ELPTO on my last rig and uses less oil. 2. Ride. It rides like a Cadillac. I have run WOT in a 3 foot chop and it handles almost as smooth as riding on glass. I got caught on Lake Michigan with 15-20mph NE winds in some good size rollers. I felt safe at 25mph although I did get a little wet. Could probably got more out of it but better safe than sorry. Hydraulic steering is a nice add on for slower navigating. The boat has a really solid and safe feel to it. 3. Storage. More storage than I could ever use. 4. Helm. Upgraded seating is extremely comfortable and gauges are easy to view. Tilt steering and adjustable seats to make fat guys comfortable is another nice feature. My electronics are on a ram mount and there is room for multiple graphs if they are strategically placed. Sony stereo is good quality but a little complicated to set up if you ask me. It sounds good and is plenty loud for a fishing boat. More than enough leg room under the consoles. 5. Fishability. The front deck is massive plenty of room for 2 anglers. I've only hooked my son once LOL. The boat has enough room for 3 to fish comfortable. It's a little crowded with 4 but plenty doable. I have a dual console. I'm positive a single console would be comfortable for 4. The boat is not tippy at all with more than one fisherman on the same side or with quick movements. There is also plenty of room on the deck for multiple graphs without getting in the way of your feet. Deck has a built in recessed tray for a foot pedal if it is needed. 6. Livewell. 60" 28 gal aluminum bow livewell has 2 dividers to separate it into (3) 20" livewells. I haven't lost any fish running the aerator and pumps all day. I have not used the rear well except as a cooler. 7. Plenty of cup holders for the heavy drinkers. 8. The track system, although I haven't used it yet aside from the custom cover is a nice feature. I'm going to add some rod holders for my dad to use. 9. Towability. Easy to tow, easy to launch, and once I found the sweet spot, it's easy to load on the trailer. Couple things I'm going to change as I'm able. 1. Upgrade from the 80 Terrova to a 101. The 80 is good enough, but not ideal by my standards. This will mean adding another battery(the tray is already installed) and adding or upgrading the charger. 2. Adding a Hotfoot and blinker trim. 3. Adding a boarding ladder of some sort. 4. Adding Smartcraft gauges to help protect my investment. Hope this review is helpful to anyone who has thoughts about buying one.

  49. This is funny but so true!!!! I make custom tackle so I know the value of good hooks and when I had my business the only guys that would complain and argue about price were the guys that had $1000 dollar Evergreen or Megabass rods and exotic JDM reels along with tricked out boats, and to be fair it wasn't all of them but they were the only group I ever had complain. There is another thing with quality hooks which a lot don't understand, and it isn't the price of a hook but the design. If you are fishing a large creature bait with the hook point buried, you are going to want to use a hook like a Gamakatsu, Owner, or Trokar, those are made with cutting points that allow the hook point and barb to go through plastic and into the fish quickly with little effort, but you don't want a cutting point on a spinnerbait or a jig hook. Those baits look for a needle point such as a Mustad, Eagle Claw Laser Sharp, or VMC, the reason is these are bulky baits with weight attached, the fish moves its head back and forth and the cutting points will often end up creating a large hole and then the hook ends up falling out at the first hint of slack line. The exception to this is the Owner deep throat jig hook, they recognized this so they made a hook with a bend designed to keep the cutting point away from the fish's mouth once it penetrates. Crankbait hooks work well with cutting point hooks, the exception to this is the Mustad triple grip hooks, they realized the needle points penetrate well but they also come out the same way they came in so they created a bend that directs the point of the hook away from where it entered. The wire diameter is another place of concern, but hook manufactures make it easy for us, if you are using a worm hook in heavy cover with braid or heavy flouro or mono you will see the name "flipping hook" applied so you know the hook is correct, the same with finesse hooks. I like the post, someone who is relatively new to bass fishing has quickly noticed how important hooks are in landing and you can notice the difference, great job.
