  2. Lou, I warned you about me and LMG when we fished together, didn't I? Believe me, I'm dialing it waaaaaaay back! Perhaps one day I'll record what goes on when LMG and I are fishing together, if you think I need to dial it back here, well, you should see us on the water But in all seriousness, this is nothing more than a good fun with good friends here! I know I push the envelope sometimes, but I hope you all realize this is 100% humor from my end, and I love you all guys! After all I portray myself as the world's most evil man and laugh at myself more than at anything or anyone else This is a great forum and I've already made few friends here (shout out to LMG, fstr385, and you Lou!, wish more of you were more local!) And as far as the competition lasting for a year or more... why not?!?! It's not like we're going to stop reading this forum, nor stop fishing right? I know some months will be slower than others, but why not keep doing this until we all drop dead or move out of FL For me, this competition is a great motivator to go out even when I don't feel like it and to step up my game! So let's keep rocking on as long as we can!!!

  7. I don't see the problem. This whole thread is sort of like, if you don't like the channel on TV, change the channel. If you don't like reading a repeat thread (that was important enough to someone, to post it) don't read it and stop ranting.

  10. I really don't mind the repeat posts so much. Generally, the information being sought is pretty basic stuff to us long-time fishermen, but to someone new to bass fishing, it's a genuine need to know. We've all been there. Plus, getting a personal response to a question goes a long ways toward making a newbie feel welcome and more like they belong here. Just my $.02. Tom

  12. My dad and I caught a bunch on Saturday but nothing worth screaming about. This Saturday hopefully the old jig brings home the bacon, lettuce and tomato. I might pull out the swimbaits and see if I can bring up the titanic.

  13. I'd try a circle hook. Size 4 or maybe a little smaller. If you've never used a circle hook there's lots of good videos that explain how they work. The one you lost that was casted out a ways sounds like a good time to use one. When you feel your rod start to load start reeling in. There's no real need to set the hook. The circle hook does all the work for you. Once the hook is lodged you're good. Fish on!

  14. Hoping the slightly cooler weather thats supposed to roll through Thursday brings the bite back by the weekend. Though its been better lately, going back in the 90s has retarded the bite some it seems.

  19. Yesterday after a rain I went out on this river and hung around where a trib flows in....just about where the river changes color as the sediment hits the main river. There's a nice drop-off. Threw a red-eye shad and wham! Inside an hour pulled in 7 fish, three 3 pounders, which for a smallie here is a happy thing! Going again tomorrow!

  21. When I lived near Rochester, NY I fished Gravel Ponds (south of the city) a few times at night. Only once did I have success, caught an absolute beast of a bass -- 23" on a jitterbug -- at night. So yeah, if you can fish at night, it's worth the effort if for nothing else than to try it out. Down here in VA, I have to be off the local waters I fish at sundown (or thereabouts), so no night fishing. I'd love to hit these spots at night, though. Jitterbugs, other top waters would surely elicit some strikes.

  23. I start night fishing in April & continue until October. #1 thing to remember, bass do not morph into a new creature after sunset. I the same locations with the same lures as I do during the day.

  24. We always soaked the dogs in many gallons of tomato juice for what seemed like hours, Mythbusters...... this sucks,,,, Hydrogen Peroxide, Baking Soda & Dish Soap As was proved to be "confirmed" by the TV show Mythbusters: From Popular Science Aug. 1995, chemist Paul Krebaum provided the recipe for the bathing concoction. [Mix together] One quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, one quarter cup of baking soda, and one teaspoon of liquid soap. Bathe your pet in this solution and rinse with tap water. Krebaum warned that there is no way to store this potion. "If you put the ingredients in a bottle, the whole thing would explode."

  32. I think the playoff is going to come a year late. It looks like it may be needed this year more than ever. I know there is still a lot of season left, but I have a feeling someone is going to be "left out" this year.

  35. I have a 9-5, 15 club tournaments a year and 7-10 pot tournaments a year. If I'm not prefishing, fun fishing, pond fishing or speckled trout fishing 2-3x a year in Port St. Joe, I'm either doing something that relates to fishing OR working

I know that last couple of days have been very emotional for Martin. I am one of the good guys its ok. I returned your "precious" LMG, unharmed. .....LOL LOL

  38. Night fishing has really has become my favorite time to fish when the weather is hot. This time of year it is a little more unpredictable, but by all means GO! As always WRB gives good advice. Simple is better when it comes to fishing after dark. I like to have a bunch of combos on deck during the day, at night one or two and make sure EVERYTHING is strapped down and in its place. If you go by yourself wear a PFD. I wear an inflatable at all times at night whether I'm alone or not. A dark colored single colorado blade spinnerbait (slow rolled or bounced on bottom like a jig) or a dark colored jig and craw are two of my favorite nighttime baits. A spook can be deadly at times. There is nothing like a good fishing crushing a topwater bait at night. If that does not get you excited go immediately to the nearest hospital...

  40. The summer period tends to be the most productive, although we don't have a bug issue where I fish! Night fishing will improve your skills. Make sure you have a good light, difficult to see what you are doing or going. Hard to beat a T-rigged Power worm or buzz bait, KISS, rules the night. Enjoy yourself, take a cell phone, be careful. Tom PS; get there an hour before dark, the bite is usually good until an hour after dark, then slows down before it picks up agian.

  47. Unfortunately true in some cases. I've had to stop being as descriptive on some of my local spots after a couple of them got hijacked. Now if someone wants detailed info I have to do it in a PM. Sucks but some people just want to take and give nothing in return. My spots that got jacked NEVER get fished like I was doing and aren't popular spots at all and all the sudden after I made a post there was people there all the time doing what I had been doing. Maybe I'm just suspicious but it seemed to be more than happenstance to me.

  48. The best jig? The one you have the most confidence in! There's not one jig that is so far above the rest. The company I picked to use drew me to them because they use great hooks, they don't paint their line tie so it doesn't fray the line, and I have great confidence in the colors they make. I used to tie my own, but for lakes I found myself wanting more options. I started using California Reservoir Lures. Be careful though, they're addicting cause there's so many good looking colors.

  49. Why do you want to slow down? This is coming from a finesse fisherman who can tie on one jig and fish it all day long. Contrary to popular belief, it seems bass are in all phases of feeding, provided they are feeding. If KVD and Ike, whose fishing habits are on opposite sides of the spectrum, can finish in the top 10 during the same tourney, then slowing down or speeding up is a moot point. Maybe it would be easier for you to locate more active fish? Just a thought. Take the Classic for example. Everyone was talking jerkbaits. Cliff Pace was fishing jigs.(yes I know he claimed to be fishing other stuff as well) Cliff Pace was able to locate quality fish the others did not. Presentations were slow from all the Classic anglers. The speed of the presentation didn't matter. LOCATION, LOCTION, LOCATION. Just my .02 I've been fishing for 40 years and in those 40 years have learned that I don't know much about fishing. I do know, if I can find fish, there is a chance I may catch them.
