  12. I think it's going pretty good, but I have never had a "plan" I just take it as it comes. My kids are happy and healthy. I have a job, I still have all my fingers and toes, I fish more than most, my wife has not killed me yet, I have little to no debt, and it appears I am well fed. Sure I wish a few things were different, I wish my sister was still alive, I wish my grandmother would have lived long enough to see my kids, but such is life.

  13. Nope, better than I ever could have planned. Happy, healthy family, food on the table, shoes on my feet and a few big bass in the livewell on occasion.

  14. I have the opportunity to fish one of these lakes in the Spring. I am looking for input on which lake I should choose and if I should go earlier in February or later in March on these waters. I'm looking at the last week in February or the first week in March. This may be my only chance to do this so I don't want to mess it up. Need some input! Thanks!

  15. Yesterday after a rain I went out on this river and hung around where a trib flows in....just about where the river changes color as the sediment hits the main river. There's a nice drop-off. Threw a red-eye shad and wham! Inside an hour pulled in 7 fish, three 3 pounders, which for a smallie here is a happy thing! Going again tomorrow!

  16. It doesn't matter where we are fishing. At this time of the year it's time for the snapping turtles to move to there beds in the swampy areas for there winter sleep before the ground gets frozen and hard. I watch the swampy area on every outing now for the paths being cut through the stalks and brush in the soft mud of the swamp. If you look closely you will see a two lane highway leading through the mud. I figured I would mention about this so others can enjoy this part of nature we never get to see too. It's really visible in the farm ponds and smaller bodies of water we fish at.

  18. Who did what? Fed the rats to the zombies or burned the 2 bodies? I think the older of the 2 little girls was feeding em. Part of me thinks she may have burned the bodies too. She was a weirdo to begin with. Then her dad turns, she can't do him in, and Carol gives her a talking to about how she needs to be strong and act without hesitation and all that. Then 2 charred corpses turn up. The only thing wrong with this theory is that they were dragged to where they were found and I'm not sure a 13 year old girl would be capable of that.

  19. Bill I've read many of your posts, your problem is simple, you over complicate things and do not react naturally. The problem is user error, not the rod, reel or line, if your hooks are dull that's user error too. You need to perfect your own way of hooksetting, fighting and landing a fish. From various price ranges in rods, to different powers and tips and everything else that distinguishes one rod from another, those are merely excuses for not landing a fish, not reasons. A good fisherman is going to be successful with any rod, a higher quality rod will only help if you already know what you are doing. That said, no one lands them all.

  20. I use Red label exclusively. But just as leader material, as I have braid as mainline on every reel I own. I have had zero issues with it, and I guess I have caught a fish or two.

  22. if you do get red label, get some line conditioner for it. it isn't a terrible line but it has very poor abrasion resistance. do yourself a favor and just spend the 22$ on sunline FC sniper.

  26. red label is far from over priced. it's very cheap for 12$ a spool. with fluorocarbon lines, you get what you pay for. i personally wouldn't use vanish if it were given to me in a lifetime supply quantity. If you are happy with it, then there is no reason to switch. I prefer Seaguar Tatsu and Sunline FC Sniper for just about every application that I can use fluorocarbon.

  30. I'm with Iowa and Aceman on the Winter break. In season, I NEED to fish every day! I think I missed maybe 7 or 8 days since April. I'm divorced since 2000 and I'm trying to make up time from when I had the ball and chain wrapped around my finger...er leg!

  35. There are a lot of things that can cause the loss of a fish but if you are using a single hook lure and your rod is bending in half like in a parabolic way then the action of the rod is way too soft regardless of backbone. In fact, don't look at how thick a rod is at the butt section, newer rods have thin blanks, especially the decent rods, instead look at power and action of the rod. Another reason is you are using a soft rod with copoly line, a line that has stretch with a soft rod equals a lot of lost fish when using baits like T- rigged plastics and jigs, even spinnerbaits will present a problem on a long cast, Try using a medium heavy power, with a fast action, based on the info about the rods you currently use, a fast action rod is going to feel pretty stiff in comparison.

  37. Yes we do a panfish tornie between me and my two sons. Side by side if one of us missed the bite the other two would cast in the same spot. I'm still laughing right now as I write this just thinking about it. By the time we left we had bobbers hanging in the trees. But I won for the most caught. The fish won because they got fed. My side's hurt from laughing so much during the competition. It's the best thing a family can do together. I hope to do it again with the whole family and make it a cookout too. Since the daughter in laws fish too.

  39. Thanks for the links, Snook. Very nice rods. And I have considered the Loomis PR series, which have the right action but as noted, I feel their rods took a turn and have never recovered after they switched their MBR and SJR rods over from the Weibe reel seats (yes, I'm that old). Those GLX and IMX rods were the bomb, for bass fishing at least. I'm slowly realizing the trend towards XF action rods is not the best at least for smallmouths, which go airborne. I've switched to Sufix 832 for all my moving baits (except cranks) and I still lose a few fish (usually the bigger ones) because they don't always stay buttoned up with my F and XF rods, which are 7 foot and under. And fishing Lake St Clair and Erie where longer casts are often needed, I think a longer rod, within reason, will help put more fish in the boat for me. My Falcons do seem to be much better at 'fighting' fish. So it was when I happened to watch a saltwater TV show that I got the idea to try one of these rods, specifically the 7'6" rod with a more parabolic action. I am betting/hoping it will work beautifully for the smallies. PS, I lived in Miami back in the 80's and loved fishing saltwater. I miss it! Lived and fished out West but that was a whole different style, of course. Makes freshwater bass fishing seem 'wimpy' but it's all relative given the tackle. I've avoided muskie fishing for fear I'll get addicted and end up broke, lol.

  42. I think you're going to have to sacrifice a bit. Weightless plastic rods aren't usually synonymous with cranking rods especially medium diving cranks. And weightless plastics is a special technique in what I do. There are some good suggestions, but perhaps go cheap and get a cheap crank/topwater rod and a decent weightless plastic rod. Just my .02 anyways if I had to do this I would be looking at a medium to medium heavy fast action rod with a soft tip that loads little weight well.

  43. This is a first job, as Root Beer said it may be part time or an entry level position, benefits should not be a primary focus. The object is to get yourself into the workplace, build a resume and hopefully move up in the world. This not an interview for an upper management position, don't see the need for a thank you note, you'll either get the job or you won't. Reading an earlier comment about outworking a manger, may be one of the more inane (insane too) and insipid remarks I ever came across in the business world. Managers and owners are there for a reason, they worked up to that position by learning the business. Totally ludicrous to think when hiring in that one knows more about the function of that company than the person in charge. Owners and managers for the most part work with their minds, and brains will always prevail over brawn.

  45. If you can see them, they can see you.................GAME OVER. Also, cruising and/or sunning fish are just that. They are not actively feeding. You can get a few to bite here and there, but often it's futile. It's fun to look at them, but go fish for fish that you can't see, or that can't see you and your success rate will go up.

  46. Have you caught any bass on this rig? It looks like you have a lot going on there. I have shakey head and I have wacky wormed but never together! It's kind of like "Hey! You got peanut butter on my chocolate! 2 taste that taste great together! I watched a lot of TV when I was a kid. But seriously if it works I'll try it.

  48. Never, till I can't get out of the bed to go, till I'm completely burned out. But this year has been different with my cancer and the radiation treatments. I have an extended life now but I still have on and off side effects from the radiation. This is giving me time to clean and arrange my tackle boxes in order and to upgrade my rods and reels plus get into bait casting more. This down time has made me think more about life and what I'm going to do next. My bucket list as of now is to fish, fish and fish more, non stop in the springtime. I'm ordering more tackle so I'm not out of stock on anything. I have a few extra reels and rods. I hope to wear some out. The second thing on my bucket list is to hunt coyotes. I lost two of my cats to yotes. One I had all trained she was so smart. The first time she went outside I lost her. Im going to cash in on the pelts too. It's time to cut back on the population. They say here we lost this past generation of fawns here this year to the predators, we need to correct this. Soon it's payback time.
