  1. Recently had a conversation (in a pm) with another BR member on this - this is what I sent him. I follow a plan and have been for a long time. Besides some Running, & Biking, the majority of the Plan revolves around Resistance Training. But over the years The Plan has changed. But each plan always has the same three basic objectives – 1). It will always be safe – Over the years I’ve busted, strained and basically jacked up just about every joint I have in one way or another. So there are exercises and movements that I just can’t do any more. Fortunately, I’ve been able to train around this and still be fairly effective. I do not push myself too hard and always leave the Gym feeling like I could do a little more. The Energy I do not expend in the Gym will be utilized to Grow and Recover. I never want to feel like I'm Surviving my training. You'd be surprised how Less Is More. 2). It will always promote Functional Strength. My days of lifting buildings are over but as long as I can still move myself around and do the things I like to do, I’m happy. 3). It will always be LESS than 20 working sets and never exceed 70 minutes from beginning to end. By limiting the amount of work I do and the time it takes to do it, I keep from over training. I use a stop watch and time between sets is usually close to 1 minute and rarely more than 2 minutes. I have found that this work load and time frame has allowed me to get the most bang for the buck. I built a small home gym. It’s very convenient. A Powertec Leverage Machine and a set of D/B’s up to 50 lbs. cover my needs well. I train first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. I will have a pre-workout energy drink upon waking then train 30-45 minutes later. I have a protein drink when done and then eat breakfast 60 minutes later. I start each workout with a 10 minute warm up to get some blood pumping and to wake me up. For the past few years I have been utilizing 2 separate workout plans that I switch back and forth from every 3 or 4 months (12 – 16 weeks). One is a modified total body work out and the other in more of a traditional style plan of breaking up each work out to train different muscles on separate days. I do very little in the way of Isolation exercises, sticking with the basics has simplified things and proved successful. Body Weight Exercises are also incorporated. I Always workout One Day On followed by One Day Off – I never workout two days in a row. Each workout might strain different muscles but my same nervous system is being taxed each time. By taking a day off, I just do better. When I feel I need it – I take TWO Days Off. Something that I've never taken for granted is that I had a career where Training & Exercise were not only promoted, they were a Job Requirement. Once retired, I just had to find a way to keep it going. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. A-Jay

  2. Yesterday after a rain I went out on this river and hung around where a trib flows in....just about where the river changes color as the sediment hits the main river. There's a nice drop-off. Threw a red-eye shad and wham! Inside an hour pulled in 7 fish, three 3 pounders, which for a smallie here is a happy thing! Going again tomorrow!

  3. Hey guys just got back from my "secret pond" and had a decent morning with the new hudd! Started off the morning with a couple strikes but no hookups. That is the only problem with this bait.... After about 30 min stuck a 4lber along a rocky point, would've been a 6 if he was fat. But, she absolutely inhaled it! I also got to watch a 15 inch bass come up and absolutely crush my hudd in crystal clear water! I learned a lot about swimbaits today!

  5. Caught my personal best today. Once again the green pumpkin stik-o did the trick. 21 inches in length and fat....I think I finally get to call this one a pig. I do not have a scale, but I think this was definitely in the 5.5 -6 lbs range, Pics are of same fish one for length, the other for fun. Very exciting pulling this thing in. Also, used a nice trick I learned from the YouTubes (think it was a KVD video). The fish pulled me and stuck me to a rock ledge, then I gave it just a tiny bit of slack and I felt it loosen just enough to pull its head up and out. Lost two other fish the other day at same spot by giving it to much slack and it just jammed even farther in the undercut. Will keep that bit of knowledge for later. After the worms slowed I threw a spook and got 10 or so hits but not one hook-up. Would yall keep throwing the spook or switch to something else on the topwater? I just chalked it up to small fish, but I am not really sure. What do you think. Well, here is my fish......I am a happy camper today.

  7. I strongly urge anyone to look into a truly custom rod before dropping that kind of coin on a production one. You can get something that looks and performs at least as well and probably better and it would be the only one of it's kind.

  9. It doesn't matter where we are fishing. At this time of the year it's time for the snapping turtles to move to there beds in the swampy areas for there winter sleep before the ground gets frozen and hard. I watch the swampy area on every outing now for the paths being cut through the stalks and brush in the soft mud of the swamp. If you look closely you will see a two lane highway leading through the mud. I figured I would mention about this so others can enjoy this part of nature we never get to see too. It's really visible in the farm ponds and smaller bodies of water we fish at.

  11. Naming the Puppies - one of my favorite parts of dog ownership ~ You could go with famous Country Music stars - Like Reba, Shania, Dolly, Elvis, Toby, Brooks & Dunn, Hank, Merle, Wayland, and Don't forget George. Or you could go with a Movie Star Theme ` Like Bogart, Brando, Clark, Denzel, Grace, Helen, Humphrey, Marilyn, Marlon, Meryl, Rachel & Sophia. Or perhaps you could do a Military theme, Like, Sergeant, Chief, Colonel, General, Major, Ranger, Lance, & Gunny. So many options . . . . . A-Jay

  16. My man, fighting a fish is done with all the resources you have: rod, reel, line, drag settings, hook sharpness and your own fish fighting and hook setting technique, knowing when to pull, when to reel, when to let go. You don´t need no "macho" backbone rods all the time, macho backbone pool cue stiff rods are needed in particular circumstances. I´ve landed 5lb + fish with a UL rod and 4 lb test line.

  17. Yes we do a panfish tornie between me and my two sons. Side by side if one of us missed the bite the other two would cast in the same spot. I'm still laughing right now as I write this just thinking about it. By the time we left we had bobbers hanging in the trees. But I won for the most caught. The fish won because they got fed. My side's hurt from laughing so much during the competition. It's the best thing a family can do together. I hope to do it again with the whole family and make it a cookout too. Since the daughter in laws fish too.

  18. Applying the proper grease to carbontex drag washers most certainly does not ruin them, in fact it is recommended. We are not talking about felt washers here, although I have also applied Teflon based grease to these as well with no ill experience. Here is a reference link, while applying grease is optional it def. will not damage the disks. http://www.biggreenfish.com/drag_upgrades.htm http://www.smoothdrag.com/installation.html

  19. Thanks for the post A-Jay. You have captured what I am trying to do. I am still on the learning curve, and have to resist the "more is better" approach. The last couple of weeks I have started a new cycle of 2 or 3 days concentrating on different muscle groups with a day off (resistance) following. I can already tell a difference in the way I feel both during and after training. Finishing the workout with a little left in the tank is not something I'm used to, but the results speak for themselves. I have some health issues that sometimes restrict my ability to do what I want which is frustrating. My overall quality of life is so much better now that I hope I can follow your lead and make this a life-long commitment. Thanks again for the post.

  24. I too thought about trying one until I read the reviews. It's a good looking bait but I'll stick with the proven baits, even if they cost a little more.

  25. Greasing drags will ruin them, keep them dry and clean, then you don't need to know what material or type of lubricant. Drag disks are not expensive, bad drags can ruin your day. Tom

  29. You could say that. I was only making the suggestion based on what I've read, and limited personal experience. I just think a more adjustable brake control would allow a little more room for error from a beginner, with easily adjusting the brakes without having to remove the side cover every cast until they get a feel for it. I agree that there are many brake sytems that work great, both centrifigal and magnetic, I just think the mag brakes are a little easier to learn on. LC

  31. You are beating a dead horse, the swimbait is only 3.5" long and one photo has a good shot with the swimbait, easy to make a length estimate. Keep in mind LMB adult size fish, the head from the tip of the jaw to the gill cover is 1/3rd the body lentgh. Average hand is 4" wide, average thumb less than 1", this bass is close to 21” long, +/- 1", 5 to 6 lb bass. To be 8 lbs it needs another 3", .I'am not that far off! This is still a big bas for NY. 32. My grandfather was an athlete all through high school and was offered a scholarship to Penn State for football which he turned down to work at the steel mill to provide for the family. His knees were shot, he could walk around but not without pain. He had both of his knees replaced and was able to play basketball with me afterwards It was tough for the first few weeks but for him, it seemed like it just kind of got better real quickly after a little while with pain so i am hoping the same for you. Good luck!!

  33. Ive been getting them for awhile now. Looking for DaNisha. One guy refused to believe me thst I wasn't DaNisha. Said he was gonna come take my car. I told him drive on down to Bama and we can have a boot party. He started his tough guy routine and I told him some associates of mine would be waiting with a blow torch and two pipe wrenches for him. He back tracked real quick after that. Decided I didn't sound like a girl and wished me a good day. The last time they called a month ago I informed them DaNisha was in a horrible accident with an 18 wheeler and decapitated. I even kind of sniffled when I told them. They were so apologetic and kind to me when I told them that sob story. Havent heard a word out of them since.

  35. Kistler KLX Grass Punching - Stump Grinder. I have a seven footer, running 65 pound braid, and use it the exact duties you describe. This rod even does a good job of tossing 1/2 oz buzzbaits and spinnerbaits even though this is not its intended purpose. It is available in 7'0", 7'3", and 7'6" and can be purchased for about $145 with a discount code. Buy one of these and you will not be disappointed.

  39. Agreed but at a young age I wouldn't be writing resumes to every company just to hope that one will sponsor you. Pick a company that you like and enjoy using their product every time you go out. On top of that being sponsored does not make you a better angler only you can make yourself better.

  40. Your saying that non fishing females give you flack about you fishing? That's terrible, I'd ask them what hobbies do they have? If any woman or man hasn't been out fishing in the dark when the sky lights up and goes from twilite to dawn it's not about just fishing. Have they ever witnessed a doe with her two fawns at first light at the waters edge trying to get a drink while two freshwater otters are splashing them there missing out on nature's finest moments by not fishing. We all have wild America all around us when were fishing. Even camping when there's a low fog in the field in front of us and a herd of deer pops there heads up out from the mist. We were fishing from the mass. Border down thru Connecticut all the way to the ocean on the housatonic river. We fished in every spot we could. My point is so many people miss out on life. Then they say I wish I could of, should of?? I never let anything I could experience slip by when it comes to being outdoors with nature. It's there loss. Now let's talk about that topwater strike when we toss a spook near the Lilly pads and watch a bass turn and come towards our lure like a submarine on a hunt while we hold our breath as she hits it to knock it silly then turns and takes it. Those seconds feel like minutes. This is why we fish and what we live for. I get the same flack about hunting. I'm sitting in front of an abandoned Apple orchard that's up in the green mountain national forest as far up in elevation as my jeep could go to an old farm. At around 5pm this red squirrel climbs thru the brush pile to the end of the branch in front of me and stares at me. I figure out he never seen a human before. Then he climbs up the Apple tree where he has an Apple wedged in the fork in the branch. He takes it out and eats some, then he puts it back in the fork in the tree branch and leaves. I had a front row seat to see this unfold. My point is I'd never see this at home. Plus I smoke my annual $5 cigar up there too.

  42. Once a month for tournaments. If you just want discounts on stuff, our club has a few sponsors, PM me and I'll give you a list. We also do community service clean ups at lakes and sycamore island, where you get to fish then clean up a bit. The community service looks good on a college resume as well.

  43. Give me the # to those shops. I will call them and make them an offer for their G series Curados. If they can't even hardly give them away I'm sure they would just love to have someone call them and make them an offer.

  44. Shimano hasn't said anything about redesigning the Curado. There hasn't been any word of it anywhere except here in this thread. I have talked with Shimanoabout it and not a thing was mentioned; and it would have been at that point. For the record, if you think the Curado G series hasn't sold, you're completely wrong. It is just as strong, if not stronger than the E series I. Terms of units moved. Moreover, it's been the general fishing public that has been screaming for ten years for their $150 price point Curado back. Those are the bread and butter of that category, and Shimano listened. The Curado target audience is not the Enthusiast, or those that claim to be. It is the weekend tournament angler and part time pro that needs to fill a stable with a quality, but reasonably priced reel. They've done it, and it is selling extremely well. I love that so many have so much input on something they have no experience with, in either the business side or on the real use side. In those cases, they're completely baseless opinions, founded on nothing by speculation. It's irrational at best, ridiculous and over blown at worst. I guarantee you 100% that Shimano has gained market share with the reintroduction of the Curado in the classic, historical price point; they've no lost it at all. As for the future of the Curado I see it continuing to be a workhorse and venerable member of the Shimano line. It will continue to perform at the highest levels and meet the highest expectations of the most demanding anglers.

  46. I laugh at the notion that the G is junk. I've spent hundreds and hundreds of hours with the G series reels in my hands and have yet to have a single issue. The notion is laughable at best. Those "reviews" that are negative have come, I'm willing to bet just as the majority of those in this thread, from people that have spent no time with the reel at all. I've got 15 on rods, along side E series Curado and Chronarch, and have been just as happy with my G reels as all the others. It's a bunch of naysayers saying nay. That's all, nothing more. There are other good reels out there, there's no doubt of that, I have many. But this whole thing is just ridiculous.

  47. Mouth watering, I'm tired of fighting with other fans boys on ebay for a used "e" or bantam series. Its really like a dogfight on ebay and I come out getting my b@ss! kicked a few times. Paying upwards of $140-150 for a used reel, the revo stx and winch have been catching my eye lately. In my heart I been all Shimano. I don't want to jump ship just yet, however I can't bring myself to buying a "g" series either.
