  1. I started losing weight in January when I weighed 390#. At the time of my radiation for prostate cancer started I lost 70# by july. I did this by eating one frozen waffle for breakfast, a half sandwich for lunch (tuna in water) mixing mustard with a little mayo. For supper I had half of what I usually ate, no bread. For snacks inbetween I had those 100 calorie bag of cookies or a few pretzels or some fresh fruit. I was allowed a 2,000 calories but I kept it between 1,200/1,400 calories. I lost weight so fast it threw my meds off. I was able to reduce some meds and stop taking other ones. My cancer doctor told me to stop losing weight till my cancer treatments were over. So right now I'm back at it again. When I was logging full time I was never under 290#. My problem was when I took an inside job my appetite stayed. Even though I stayed logging part time. I just wasn't burning up the calories. Now I know what I have to do and stay focused. It's everything in moderation, fresh fruit, tuna w/70 calorie bread. I drink only water no more diet coke. I found this very easy to do. My goal is to lose weight slowly now. I figure another 20# by Christmas and another 25/30# by bass fishing season in the spring. If I can do it anyone can. BigBill

  2. The spares were usually garbage anyway. Didn't have the same drag set up as the main spool, or were made entirely of plastic.

  3. The rod has to be packed up, taken to the post office or be home for the mailman to pick it up, pay for the shipping, then wait how long before the rod shows up at your home. If I were in charge of customer service for any rod company I would make arrangements with local tackle shops to repair a guide on the spot and bill the company. Saves not only time for the consumer but the rod manufacturer is going to save both time and money in their own facility, surprises me no one seems to have this program. IMO the only good warranty is over the counter repair or replacement. Convenience never hurts any companies future sales, but inconvenience can. It's nice you received a new rod.

  4. Went to the private lake I usually fish at today. The day started off slow. It was overcast with on/off drizzle. Was seeing lots of fish moving around in the shallows and breaking the surface but couldn't get anything to bite. Walked all the way down the bank and 3/4 of the way back down to my car with no action but I did find a Rapala Rattlin' Rap and a Luck-E-Strike Rick Clunn Squarebill. Then the sun came out and the fish turned on. In about 20 minutes, I caught one average size bass... One yellow perch that I didn't even know was in this lake... And this beast... She was just shy of 18 inches and my crappy $5 mechanical scale put her at about 3.75 lbs. I would have been happy with just the yellow perch to keep me from getting skunked but this fish was the icing on the cake.

  6. I was born and raised in the Bronx, NYC and I never really spent time outdoors (woods, lakes, ponds etc.) as a child. 100% pure urban kid. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be fishing for bass in tournaments. The outdoors rock and I wish I had "found" it sooner.

  8. Why not just eat healthy and exercise? Are you going to take supplements the rest of your life? Places like GNC and Max Muscle or whatever love to see guys like you spend $200 for a months worth of supplements. You could buy fruits and vegetables and lean meat and accomplish the same thing without having to put all that junk in your body.

  9. I have used St Croixs warranty multiple times, no complaints, I don't have any sort of man crush on it, so I am not going to say it's the best, but it's good, reasonable, and they are prompt. I have also used Abu Garcia/Pure Fishing's warranty service a few times now too, and they are top notch as well. IMHO the Shimano over the counter warranty on rods is tough to beat, providing you don't have to drive halfway across the state to the store, or the Shimano retailer has the rod you are replacing in stock. I have had a few rods from different company's that were NOT easy to deal with............I won't name names, but it begins with a "K" and ends with "istler". And I wasn't wild about my lone exp. with G. Loomis 15 years ago either. I break a lot of rods, 99% of them my fault, Abu and St Croix don't care, they cover it, often for nothing, the least I can do is pay for the shipping to send it in, I consider it the cost of being stupid...LOL

  12. Fall & Spring! Fall: bass leave deep water to feed up for winter Spring: bass leave deep water to feed up for the spawn. Fall: bass follow bait to the back of creeks Spring: bass follow bait to the back of creeks If y'all know Spring breaks/breakline, or feeding areas, y'all know the fall ones to!

  13. Your new rod loads differently and propels the bait differently . The amount of force and release point need to be re-learned. It will come with practice as suggested above.

  14. I did Insanity this Spring and was very lean by the time I finished. Then came Summer and I did not exercise at all. I noticed my stomach was getting kind of flabby so I went to my local Max Muscle store and had them measure my body fat percentage. I came in at almost 20% which is crazy. I also noticed that I got tired much faster when fishing and felt sore at the end of the day. So tonight I am going to start Insanity again and I had the guy at my local Max Muscle put together a good regimen of Protein, Pre-Workout drinks and vitamins. If anyone is interested in getting in shape before next fishing season we could keep this thread going and post updates about our success, tips and what supplements and workouts are working for us. Let me know if you are interested and I will try to post once or twice a week.

  18. Technically, they knew they didn't have enough "free" money to pay for the food. Therefore, in my mind they stole the food. Whether it be from Wal-Mart, the state, the feds, or whoever. They knew good and well they didn't have enough funds and that is why they cleared the shelves.

I got something for all yall! Its called whey protein and hormones! I'm making bank again! So I'm gonna do it up right this go around. Lets see how massive I can get in 90 days. Oh, and whey protein is integral to making it all work. Got to feed them muscles somehow.

  24. I've tried to photograph it before but a picture cannot do justice to the mount. It just can't show the detail you can see when you look at the fish close up in the light. The paint the artist used has a light gold dust that looks exactly like the scales on a real fish.

  30. No need to spend big bucks on a spinnerbait rod unless you want to. I use Lightning Rod Shocks, they are fantastic for the $$ and are great reaction bait rods. I fish spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, chatterbaits, swimjigs, skinny dipper type swimbaits, square bills, ripping lipless crankbaits out of grass, top waters, jerkbaits and frogs with mine. For spinnerbait specific use, I use the 6'6" M with 20lb braid for 3/16 + 1/4 oz spinnerbaits, and the 7'MH with 50lb braid for 3/8 + 1/2 oz. spinnerbaits. I used to fish all that stuff with various $250 St Croix Legend Tournaments, and they didn't do any of those things any better than the Lightning Rods. I am even going to get a couple more, so I can just have multiple baits rigged up and ready to go.

  31. The champion is no slouch. It is often overlooked because it has such a strong following for their crankbait rods within the champion series. the sensitivity is there but not on the same level as the extreme. the extreme also has a faster tip than the champion when comparing similar rods i.e champ 734 vs dx 744. The difference isn't as drastic going from the champion to the chamption extreme as it is when jumping from the savvy to the champion. If you're looking to save money and having a hard time justifying the higher price tag, you won't be disappointed in the champion 734

  33. I've read and re-read your post, like others have said I don't know anyone whose life turned out exactly as planned. Mine sure hasn't, but I'm happy, and that is what matters. Couple of thoughts don't let your happiness depend on someone else. Your only 24, u have time. Don't think for a second that having a wife will make u happy. Another person can not bring total fulfillment to your life. You're setting yourself up for Co-dependency, besides people are fallible they make mistakes and will let you down. You first must be happy with yourself, who u are, if not you will never be happy. As far as careers go, why give up on your original plan? Unless you now realize that happiness isn't found in money. Don't over analyze, do what you love, anything less and your selling yourself short. Monetary gain and success by in large are achieved by people who are passionate about what they do. I wish you the best of luck in finding who u are. The rest will fall in line. I forgot to elaborate how my life didn't go as planned. From my early teens all I wanted to do was be in the military, and make a career of it. I joined the Coast Guard and at the age of 22 I broke my back all of my plans were gone in an instant. I bounced around for awhile in civilian life, I wasn't unhappy, just a little lost I guess. After a few years I went to work for the federal prison system, I had a new plan and felt as though I had job security. Long story short the fusion I had undergone in the military catastrophically failed at the age of 35 I was medically retired. So there I was no income took almost three years for all the paperwork to get processed three kids and a wife to support. It sucked. Now I'm happier than I've ever been, my life is radically different than I thought it would be, but that's ok.

  35. Its free if its their fault, and as far as I'm concerned St Croix is doing you a favor by replacing a rod for only $50 if it was broken because of your negligence.

  38. A company should send out prepaid shipping labels, not too many do in any industry, I've gotten them with some types of products for a warranty claim. Whether it's a rod or reel why should I have to pay for shipping when I didn't create the problem. The quality of the rod is not in question, but it did have to go back, what I question is the warranty process for most companies. As cooperative as they are, they just as soon make things difficult to discourage people using the warranty especially for a lower end item. Paying a fee to have a warranty honored is B.S., rod breaks and it's their fault the entire exchange should be free of charge.

  39. I get Bassmaster, that's pretty much it except for a couple months out of the year when the one outdoor channel we get finally stops showing nothing but hunting shows and actually puts on a couple fishing shows. Of course those usually suck so it isn't much better. On the bright side it probably ends up with me actually fishing more instead of just watching fishing.

  40. depends where you'll be fishing, but anywhere from a 6'8 to a 7'3 rod is good, a MH Fast tip will work well. 15lb fluorocarbon is good overall line. some good rods around $100 St.Croix Mojo, Abu Garcia Veritas, *** ***, $50 Berkley lightning shock rod in 7' MH will be an excellent spinnerbait rod. then you'll have some $$ leftover for a reel

  46. 9mm. Shoots faster and holds more rounds. Less recoil. Deep cut hollow points leave large wound channels. So I'm not as concerned with knock down power. .45ACP is still a good round though. If I didn't have my twin glock 9mm's I would own a 1911. All boils down to personal preference. Either will eject the contents of the cranial cavity. So go for what you like.
