i took a break from bass fishing recently and did a little cat fishing in the yak. my brother and i caught two giant blues over 75 pounds and captured one on video. it is pretty awesome! also, check out my spro frog bass fishing video "SF5"
Bruce wins! Hands down, Bruce had the worst week of anybody.
Of course next week Bruce will win the Billion Dollar Lotto but for now, everyone can sit back and know that Bruce was a disaster last week.
Hey, from here on Bruce's luck can only go up.
With a break in the rain, I got a chance to get out this afternoon for a little while. First spot I wanted to hit was standing room only so opted for my second choice, Baker Park. Worked my way around the lake and got to a section that I've never had any action but was stuck at that spot for a while with ducks hangin out where I wanted to fish. I was throwing a lipless crank when I thought I picked up a branch but then it began to fight back. LOL! Played her out and pulled her to the shore. Only bass of the trip and she measured 20 1/2" and weighed 4lbs 11oz.
Here's a pic.
past couple weeks have been bad fishing wise. just seems like things aren't going my way, let me make you a list
#spent about a half an hour one night learning a new knot, cool right, but having trouble. tried probably 12-15 times. finally got it and I cut the main line instead of the tag line. grr. got to do it again. practice makes perfect
#tie a new leader to braid on my spinning reel. first cast get snagged on a rock break off the leader.
(same day)
#again using a flipping jig get stuck on a log, no biggie. I snapped the 15 # line and in doing so I put a gauge into my bait caster. wow. pretty much took 50% of my line with it. had to respool.
#lost about 4 new crankbaits, 6 custom jigs, 3 custom Spinnerbaits, AND...
# a spinning rod my only spinning rod broke in half.
now im just ranting. after a day of getting skunked on the water I just need to. I know all this comes with the sport. just wondering if any of you share this pain.
thanks
This elderly Gal and I were introduced by a RAGE Thumper Worm and Moaner Stick'r Hook! I think that in Bass Years, she could be my age Wonder if she has aches and pains like I do
T Rigged with 1/2oz tungsten and 25lb Fluoro line, 7'11 hvy action rod. With this heavier set up, hook sets are more sure and I can control them much easier.
A few days ago, I had a little shoulder surgery tune up... I'm thinking that a little fishing trip might be good THERAPY... Whatiya THINK!
Man what a day!
LMG and I brought in, conservatively, EIGHTY, that's 80, fish in the boat today!!! OMG it was absolutely on FIRE!!!!!!! I'll let him post the pics (since he hasn't emailed me them yet). Most of them were dinks, I got a few that were worth taking pics of, and he, well, he caught the monster of lake coral springs!!! Nothing I got today was over 16" so no new fish to enter...
These are all very interesting prospects. I think I'll try following up a strike, especially those of topwater, with a senko. I've heard of that but never really tried it. Do you have to hit the exact same spot? I'm still getting down my casting accuracy, do you think casting just beyond it and pulling it through the virtual zone will still work?
Took my son out for some fishing, He finally caught one.Weightless rage craw and wacky senko were the choice of the day. I was catching wherever the was grass shooting up out of the water most of the time in only 3 ft water. 15 total.
The 1/2oz jig is the lead weight only. You have to factor in the hook, skirt and trailer. That puts it right around 3/4oz total weight. Same with 3/8oz brings it to around 1/2oz. Depending on your rods max weight, see where the overall weight fits in. If it's 1oz, the 1/2oz jigs will be the perfect happy medium.
If it were me, I'd get both weights to start off. That's what I did. I ended up prefering 1/2oz over anything else. I hear you on not getting carried away. Every time I fill my cart, I look and see I'm over 100 bucks lol and have to tone it down. Start off with 1-3 of each you want or heck even 1 of each. You will find out really fast what works the best.
That rod should be perfect for your conditions provided your not in some seriously nasty cover. If your in some really nasty stuff, a heavy would be better but what you have will work great.
here are the colors I use. green pumpkin , pumpkin seed, hillbilly deluxe, hot tamale, delicious, junebug, okeecheebee craw, and a couple others. Two of those are the new kinky beaver, they have a ton of more action as their tail's are different. Experiment with them and soon enough you will start learning how to fish them. I sure hope this helps bud.
I fished Okeechobee yesterday. First time on the lake in over three months. We got a little bit of a late start...fished from 7:30 - 1:00. Nothing going at all on moving baits. Finally caught a few flipping. Only caught about eight fish, but size was good. I got one good one (7.3lbs) and a couple 3s. I lost another fish that was an absolute beast... (hoping it was a mudfish). Scraped together about a 16lb bag....if that beast I lost was a bass I was well in the 20s (Jared McMillian won the tourney yesterday @ 23lb w/ a 10lber).
I fished about 15 stretches and only two of them had any fish at all. I feel pretty good about those two stretches...need to find a couple more (going out again this Thursday) to feel OK for my tourney next Sunday.
Anytime u call an American company and get connected to a call center in another country, just ask to speak to a call center located in the states. You will be transferred no questions asked.
That thread has been done many many times.
A semi experienced angler can use either b/c or spinning for just about any kind of technique or species of fish. This notion of needing a certain rod for trebles and another for other types of lures is an idea that was created in outer space. Reality is any all purpose rod can handle any kind of lure with ease, I do it every day. Do I lose fish, probably no more or less than anyone else. Will a more technique specific rod be more fun, only the user can answer that.
According to Bob Lusk, Fisheries Biologist guru, Bass have a memory of up to 15 minutes. You should be able to catch the same bass twice in a day. Easier said than done however! That is why we fish
Wow nice fish Mutt!!! We finally got some inside info to this area. We fished a bit tonight, threw everything but only caught two smalls on worms. I tried and tried with my frog but I just don't think they were there. We weren't going to fish the morning after our disappointing day today but with new info we feel "obligated" to go
Nice fish man. I'd count that 20" towards your total you can tell and I'd give you the benefit of the doubt.
What did you catch them on today? I tried everything under the sun and got skunked here in Jacksonville
Fall can be very frustrating or very rewarding. It's always one or the other for me. Just keep plugging. If your water has turned over give it a rest. I always think back to spring and what the water temps were when it was good. Once the fall water temps replicate the good spring you should have a good fall. Game on .
Man what a nice day! I haven't had something like that in a lonnnng time. You had them locked in.
Glad to see somebody got into some nice fish today after me and czar got skunked all day. Judging by your pics you south FL guys are going to be showing us some nice fish.
A trick we use when fishing shallow marshes down south is when a bass hits a topwater lure and misses or hooks up but comes off, we drop that rod and follow up with a Texas rig.
9 out of 10 times we hook & land the bass
I've watched bass hit my spinner bait or Trap, circle around & hit it again.
i have broke off a bass, and caught it again on the very next cast, with my hook still in it. the line cut on the hook set, so there was not a fight. goes to show the peta people that bass do not feel the hook, just react to the pressure.

Dirty California swim jigs are the best. All I use. I know everyone likes pumping up the sponsors and I understand, but I order all of my tackle from TW cause of the free shipping and no tax.
Thanks to all who attended. We didn't get a chance to really have a "get-together" but 3 boats and 5 guys isn't bad for a 1st attempt. Drdriver and son left early (not sure what time) but I think they had to go to work or something. Trytofish also left early not sure if it was the weather or what. It was a pleasure to make their acquaintance though. Appreciate the help also.
It was chilly at 7Am and the wind was a bit much. I managed to catch 6 fish (only three would qualify as keepers). The largest was 17", also had a 16 and 15 1/2. The others were 14 1/2, 13 1/4, and 13. Got them all on a buzzbait in the creek. Caught nothing after Noon. I gave up at 2PM and I'm pretty sure I was the last one there. Jeremy and his partner also caught a few. I was slow going though.
If we decide to do this again we should try to make it a little more organized. Maybe meet at the ramp at a certain time and have a quitting time so that we can have a cookout or at least sit around and chew the fat for a while.
Thanks again to the guys who showed up and I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

Hello All -- new member here! Thanks to Jeff for telling me about this site when we met at Grove a few days back.
I fished Collierville CC this morning, but there's water weeds along the entire bank to around 15-20 ft out. I resorted to throwing a frog on top, but no luck.
Where is the daycare pond I read about here? Anyone fished it lately?
Thanks!
"Heavy duty scents"? That in no way influences a fish to bite your lure. If you do happen to get bit, then all that stuff does, is buy you one extra second of hook setting time before the fish spits it.
The past few weeks have been bad for me too. I was all excited for the fall bite only to have it turned off here. I have had days like you mentioned a few time. Stick with it. Usually just as I am about to throw a rod in the water I end up with one really nice fish. It's funny how that will make you forget about all of the other things that happened before.
My "everything" rod is a 6'6" MH F Spinning setup. 10 lb braid with a 8-10lb FC leader depending on what I am trying to do.
I have tried everything on this setup and it works for me. Some examples
Zara Spook - Tie to braid directly.
Frog - Tie to braid directly
Mojo Rig - 8lb FC leader
Drop Shot - 8lb FC leader
Weightless senko (wacky or trig) - 8lb FC leader
Crankbaits/Lipless - 10lb FC
Jig - Either directly to braid OR a 10lb leader.
It all boils down to comfort and practice IMO but this works for me.
Good luck.
7'6 redbone med spinning with a soron 40 reel and 15# braid. Have used it for bass fishing in a pinch but I prefer a lighter set up, can take the same outfit to the ocean and catch snook, jacks and tarpon which is primarily what I use it for.
Walleye and panfish for food, pike and musky on accident, king salmon because you HAVEN'T fought a freshwater fish until you've hooked into a 25lb+ Great Lakes Chinook.
I use 1 winch for cranking and another winch for heavy cover heavy braid fishing... Can't beat that power out of the heavy stuff... Plus it helps slow down my retrieve when I get antsy
